Lunch time visit, Good pub food, generous portions, very friendly and prompt service. Pleasant atmosphere Will visit again. (Note large TVs so maybe not evenings if you don't like watching sport?)

I haven't visited the griffin for many years and was surprised how nice it was inside, it was comfortable and pleasantly decorated, plenty of choice of drinks, it has its own car park. The atmosphere was ok but for a Friday I thought it would be a bit busier, will definitely pop in again for a drink.

Quick drink popped in due to the griffin re opening last week .must say ye very nice quite busy for a Tuesday landlord and landlady seems nice . Will call again .

Nice place. No food served. No body else in mid afternoon. Seemed to be running out of main stream drinks, such as Carling/strongbow etc. Such a shame as it used to be a lovely place for a meal

We went to The Griffin for lunch on Sunday afternoon. The premises are located in the town centre. The building exterior was clean and tidy as were the interior customer areas. The pub was not busy on our arrival and there was only one member of staff who was in charge of the bar and taking food orders and delivering food from the kitchen. Because there was only him , food had to be ordered at the bar and when whoever was doing the cooking rang the service bell he was busy serving and chatting to other customers who called in for drinks. They were obviously regulars as they addressed each other by name. We had to wait a long time between our starters and main courses,and we were the only ones that had ordered food. When our food was delivered to us it was lukewarm and just edible. In short we were all 4 of us disappointed. The main issue is lack of staff. We will not be attending here again.

We visited twice as part of our holiday visit. Firstly we attended Andrew's pub quiz, being pub quiz veterans. The quiz was brilliant. A wide variety of questions with such a lot of planning delivered by the fantastic Andrew. We also visited for what can only be described as the best Sunday Lunch out that I have ever had. The meat was delicious, veg cooked to perfection and the cauliflower cheese was outstanding. The atmosphere was lovely. If we ever visit the area again we will definitely pay another visit.

Second time here for steak night. This time I had ribeye and last time the sirloin. The steaks were utterly superb. Really juicy. Some of the nicest I've ever had. Chips and salad tasted great too. Good deal for £40 including a bottle of red or 2 pints each. Will definitely be back.

Bad service and expensive prices, it seems there are much better places in the village to have a drink. Not the worst the place but probably in the bottom 1.

Visited for the steak meal deal, the food and service were excellent, the food was served in good time and was a fair size portion.

Popped in on a Saturday evening on the off chance. The lovely lady found us a table for three. Good beer, great food at a reasonable price. Liked the ambiance of the place.

We came here to watch one of the England Euros matches and decided to have some food here beforehand. Bangers & Mash and one of the Burgers. Couldn't fault it. Humble, homemade pub grub but fantastic big portions.

Visited Market Weighton today to walk, decided to stop for lunch so went in the Griffin, lovely home cooked food and so reasonable, cant remember having home made chips in any pub so a pleasant surprise, home made lasagne was fab, just wished i lived closer, would def recomend

Popped in for some food on the way back from the coast with our two (big!) dogs. Staff couldn't have been more welcoming, very friendly atmosphere and great food at great prices.

Sunday lunch was ok, honestly found myself eyeing up other meals as they went by. The fish and chips look great Alright atmosphere, not too loud and can hold a convo. Staff were great

Wonderful atmosphere, everyone is friendly, the bar staff are ultra-friendly and welcoming, especially the American lady. The prices are cheap, there is outside seating, one only has to be there for five minutes and you'd be chatting to almost everyone and the food is EXCELLENT, probably some of the best food I've ever tasted and service is very quick. Also it is dog-friendly with a quiz night every Thursday! It is a home from home.

After not being into this pub for many years, I was pleasantly surprised by how smart it is now. Welcoming and homely atmosphere, with regulars sharing very positive thoughts on the place. Very attentive staff and a really positive feel. Definitely a good decision to have an impromptu meal out here. The food was lovely, and there were interesting choices on the menu. A bottle of wine was only £10.95, so we were glad we were walking home...

We didn't think we we're particularly hungry as we were passing through Market Wieghton on the way to visit some friends. Post Lockdown we chose the Griffin. A lovely friendly pub in Market Place with a pleasant beer garden. Small plates £6 we ordered Fish and Chips. They were absolutely gorgeous. Not too many chips. Home made! Lovely fresh fish with a very nice batter. I can't think I've had nicer fish and chips in a longtime. We'd certainly recommend.

We called in on the spur of the moment for lunch. Friendly welcome, shown to a table and drinks quickly arrived. We both opted for the small fish n chips for lunch. Beautifully battered fish - and the fish was fresh, moist and tender. Lovely thick chips and mushy peas. Delicious. Friendly service.

Family of 8 had lunch with drinks for 90 quid. Superb value, great quality and proper homemade grub, none of that plastic pub nonsense. It's becoming a bit of a regular for us.

Booked a table as part of a business trip. Staff were very friendly and attentive, good selection on the menu. Had the fillet steak from the specials board and was amazed that it came with all the trimmings at a bargain price of £14.99! When it arrived I was even more surprised to find it was a large steak cooked to perfection with a generous portion of chips, onion rings, mushrooms and a very tasty peppercorn sauce. If The Griffin can do this why do I get charged £22 - £25 at other venues??

Excellent stop off as part of our coast to coast bike ride. Food was Excellent, beer was good and the staff were great fun and very welcoming. Definitely returning if in the area again.

Absolutely gorgeous, staff are 1st class. Yes I only had jacket potato, beans and cheese. Was no scrimping on toppings there. Others had Christmas Dinner absolutely fab. The Brussels sprouts where beautiful. The cheif lady was lovely to come out and tell how she cooked them. Thank you a fab afternoon, fab staff and fab meal xxx

I'm a semi-regular at the pub, I had smelled and seen the food for a few months but didn't really have time to stop to eat, my mistake as I went with my sister for dinner and the food was impressive, we both had pâté to start, she had the fish platter and I had steak, will definitely done again as not only was the food good but the service was impeccable

Went for lunch with 10 other ladies. Had already preordered food as requested when booking table. Food excellent everyone enjoyed it. They all want a return visit. Free starter or pud which was a surprise and very welcome. Would definitely recommend for lunch

We went into the pub . Great place . Barmaid seemed under pressure as she was the only staff in the public area to serve drinks and food and it was busy . She coped well . Both ordered meals that had or could have sweet potato fries with them as my wife has a actual potato allergy. Sadly the sweet potato fries were not available even though on the actual menu. So we had to change our orders and have our second choice of meal. We enjoyed the meals and they were good value but were disappointed we could not have what we actually wanted. My wife was offered onion rings instead which is not the same at all! To have sweet potato fries in stock all you need is a bag of frozen fries! Everything was clean and well furnished in the pub and the toilet was immaculately clean . Before going again would probably ring to check that they have sweet potato and go somewhere else if they do not.

Took visiting friends for lunch. Have eaten there previously, but only on a Sunday. We ate from the 2 courses for £14.95 menu and found it exceptional value for money, with good choice. We all enjoyed our meals. We live in the town and intend to return.

Really lovely food pies are great and the chunky chips love the seating areas and very cosy pub staff are really nice and good for the Kids looking forward to going back there again lovely pub defiantly worth going meals great and largers good choices

A typical Yorkshire market town locals pub with a lively atmosphere after work! Not a bad menu, nothing fancy but varied & plentiful. A very busy kitchen & bar when we've been, so can be a wait for food delivery occasionally. Good food at good prices & a very popular venue.

I called in for a pint first time I’ve been but when I saw the barmaids miserable face I decided on half it was like she didn’t want to be there, and on almost completion of my drink I noticed my glass rim was covered in lipstick I won’t be going there again or recommending it very disappointed.

Thursday lunchtime, quite a few people already in the bar. The decor is modern with some nice booths for privacy with leather bench seats. We ordered a couple of drinks and took a seat in a booth. We ordered a gourmet burger and a gammon steak, on the lunch time deal of two meals for only £14. If I am honest I wasn't expecting much. The gammon arrived with a fried egg, chips, onion rings, mushroom and a salad garnish. The burger served with bacon and melted cheese was a good size also with chips onion rings and side salad. Everything was delicious and obviously cooked fresh as it took over 30 minutes for the food to come, it was worth the wait. The lady behind the bar was lovely, very polite and very helpful and we would not hesitate in eating here again.

We went this evening, not our first time dining and the food was excellent. I had one of the specials “chicken with creamy garlic sauce”, it was really nice! Good portion size and very tasty. The chicken was cooked well, not dry at all. Children’s meal, was again very good size, fresh and also included a drink and ice cream. Great value for money and we will certainly be returning.

Family meal for 14 on Easter Good Friday. What a lovely experience from start to finish with attentive staff, extra little touchs and excellent food. When we arrived a giant Easter egg gift had been left on the couples place at the table and a table stand had been laid out with all that was needed to cut a cake and present to the family. The table was laid lovely and staff came to attend to our needs as soon as we arrived. Everyone's food was delicious, very well presented and there was plenty. Also as a bonus it was very reasonably pricedWe can not thank the hosts enough for making this day more special.We will definitely be back to enjoy this venue againThank you

We visited The Griffin after reading the reviews on this site, and were very pleased that we did. I chose the braising steak and my wife chose lasagne: both meals were excellent, so was the cost, only £14 for the two. Our friends both chose the herb crusted cod and were not disappointed, all of our meals were delicious: freshly prepared and well worth waiting for.

Great food but on a very busy Mothering Sunday hou really need more staff. Waiting over an hour for plates to be moved and pudding really is not acceptable.

We were away for a few days and looking for somewhere to eat. There wasn't much open at the time but we found the Griffin which was easy to park near as we were in a rush. Its a pretty basic town pub but is very nicely decorated and the coal fires were lit which was great in winter. When the food arrived we were amazed, the portion sizes were good and the quality was excellent. I had the meat pie which was the best I've had anywhere, and I really know my meat pie! The barman was very friendly as was the man serving the food. We will definitely go back when we're in the area. For a good quality, good value meal I would definetaly recommend this place.

Got drunk fell out crawled home

Called in a few days before Christmas 2018 for a pre Christmas drink with some friends. We ended up spending 6 hours plus in the pub. There was a log fire keeping us warm. We saw a lot of people having food in the pub. The food looked very good and was very popular. Since Christmas more friends have visited the pub and had a meal which was very good, so we will visit ourselves again and have a meal. We will be visiting at Easter as we are going to a wedding celebration there, so we are really looking forward to it. Very friendly staff and customers, definitely worth a visit!

Booked a table for Sunday lunch with mother in law, the wife, and our Westie sunshine. Having never been since the ownership change, I did not know what to expect. The pub offers several starters, main courses, and sweets. I decided to have a slice of beef/turkey Sunday lunch. The meat was to my surprise, thick and tasty, accompanied by fresh Vegtables, Yorkshire pudding, roast and mashed potatoes, with 2 gravy boats. Absolutely, Delicious! I followed this with a portion of Christmas pudding and fresh cream. It is great to find good quality, home made food, at a very reasonable price. I would reccomend this Pub, and it's superb food to anyone visiting Market Weighton, we will certainly be back soon.

Lovely local pub. Visited with my husband as it’s my local. Largely okay, just a pity about small town mentality of the quizmaster- seemed to be frightened by gay lads - shame really - we were enjoying a pint or two but might have been nice if he’d asked us if we might have liked to join in with the quiz. I should make a mental note maybe that Market Weighton isn’t the centre of Leeds or Manchester.

Called 22nd December as a party of 3 just as a get together of 3 friends.Spent a very pleasant 5 hours putting the world to rights.Pub was busy (not heaving) all the time.Bar staff very pleasant, very efficient, prompt service.Food being served all the time, looked extremely tempting.In the end we all 3 gave in and sadly went home for something to eat.Will call again in the future.

I visited the lovely cosy pub on Saturday the 25th around 7pm ish the pub had a lovely vibe about it I immediately felt at home... I ordered the fish and chips with mushy peas and it was to die for far better than any fish and chips shop and very reasonably priced, my partner ordered the steak pie also with chips and mushy peas very filling and tasty the gravy was mouth watering! I would definitely recommend this pub to anyone! Best pub meal in a long long time I will be returning!

Beautiful pub in the centre of Market Weighton. Under new ownership and the new owners have spent a lot of time and money putting this pub back on the map. Visited midweek and had the steak..to say its the best I've ever had is a bold statement but very much true. Served with homemade chips onion rings mushrooms and a side salad. Tasty and plentiful so much so we called the following sunday for lunch, again we werent disappointed the yorkshire puddings were outstanding. Service was swift and painless and waiting staff were attentive. Quality home cooked food served in clean pleasant environment, give it a go you wont be disappointed!!!

There is usually a disco on a Saturday night and it has a great atmosphere and it's recently under new management which shows as it's a lot cleaner. It''s not the cheapest pub and service was a bit slow there was only 2 bar staff and it took me 10mins to get served
