Bridlington Seafront Cookhouse & Pub in East Riding of Yorkshire

Pre booked for a group of 8 and was told there are no tables because people have just sat anywhere,I should have taken that as a warning! We decided to take two separate tables. I had a look around and decided I wasn't eating there. The hot food looked dry and half the items were unavailable including plates. They only had toast and crumpets for the continental,and containers of cereals but no dishes and milk even the coffee machine was empty. We have eaten here numerous times in the past but I really cannot imagine what on earth has happened to this place.A year ago it would have got a 10 out of 10, now it is not worthy of a 1, but 0 is unavailable. Please shut this place down it is dragging the cookhouse name down, which is such a shame!

Two of us popped in and they sorted us a table, I have dietary restrictions being gluten free, this was catered for, they have an easy to follow booklet. We were looked after by Elle, we both had a nice lunch and will be returning.

Terrible hospitality, spent 20 minutes waiting to be seated, near enough empty restaurant, finally got seated to be then told they can not provide service for us, no explanation. Will never return

Food was shocking. Partner got steak asked for it blue, came well done. Kids chicken popper meals were burnt and as hard as rocks. My curry was like water. Apsolutly appalling meal the table was dirty and sticky. The staff were unfriendly and just looked miserable. Like they didn't want to be there. It took ages for food to come out and I would say there was only 5 tables with people sat at them. Will never be returning for basic shit food for the bill to come to £75 with 40%off what a joke.

Me and family came here for lunch and it was really nice

As we were staying in The Premier Inn we decided to stay for our meal, we paid for two meal deals at reception and the kids meals separate as they don’t do it for children. Our starters came in good time but a little on the crispy side, then our mains about 20 minutes but the naan bread and chips were cold. We were starving as were the kids so, as no sign of the kids Pizzas were coming our children asked if they could share our meals with us, we waited patiently to see what happened as they seemed short staffed. We finished our mains and still no sign and no member of staff around until “excuse me are you waiting for anything else”. We said we were still waiting on the two Pizzas, apparently they hadn’t been ordered, in the mean time we heard people complaining about their meals turning up cold, the same as ours. More training required and perhaps a manager who doesn’t ignore all the complaints and sees the customers at the tables to apologise or at least offer some for of compensation. As a catering manager for over 25yrs there seemed to be a huge lack of communication or authority figure here. Sorry but it has certainly been a huge let down, also when you say breakfast starts at 7am perhaps the breakfast and all meal options should be available from that time not over the next 30 minutes or more to get it all out. Very poor indeed.

Great place but now needs refurbishment inside borderline scruffy soft furnishings stained and marked . Paint peeling on ceiling which is health hazard . Often seems understaffed. It's a great place and location please tidy it up in the dinning area.

Visitamos hoy los asientos que nos dieron estaban sucios y también el piso. Decidí tener el pescado con papas fritas, fue asqueroso, el pescado era un desastre empapado e insípido, los guisantes húmedos una gota de papilla dura y las papas fritas que no son papas fritas parecían haber sido raspadas del fondo de la freidora. No se dan disculpas si el chef no puede freír la masa entonces necesita que la enseñanza se pague y no volverá.

The food was very good and hot, service and staff were lovely. Beer nice too.

Upon arrival, we requested to be seated and offered to split into smaller, manageable groups if needed. However, the staff refused to accommodate us, citing no table availability — despite several visibly vacant tables. While we understand that large groups can be logistically challenging, what concerned us was the complete lack of effort to find a solution, especially when we offered flexibility. We couldn’t help but feel that our group, being entirely of Indian ethnicity, might have played a part in how we were treated. We truly hope that was not the case. We’re sharing this feedback not to accuse, but to encourage reflection and improvement in how diverse patrons are welcomed. We hope future guests, regardless of their background, will receive fair and thoughtful service. Thank you for taking the time to consider this.

Where do i start: 11 year old very hungry and us too. We chose this restaurant / pub as didnt want to wait in others this one looks is almost empty... We walked in and after 10mins of waiting to be seated we came ask barman who said we be seated and need wait lol ... so another 5 mins of wait...another customer came so now 10 people waiting still noone coming... Finally wow We got seated and waiter left lol .. .so we chose in 3mins and i called waiter and he pretended be deaf so i raised my: excuse me can we orded please bit louder... then i just got shouted at from distance that cant now i have customers to serve. And we are like what 🤣 .. btw restaurant had 20customers overall lol.. .... ok so i waited 2mins and asked one more employee there can we order pls as we here 30mins and still didnt even order. Ok so she took order... we waited for food another 30mins ... only mine and daughter food came ... pizzas absolutely cold!!!!! Husband hungry waiting another 10mins for his grilled chicken lol After food i had pain in my tummy till we got home.... spend £60 and overall i never be going back 1. Poor service 2. Rude to customer 3. Unable to organise things in there, barman didnt even know what americano they serve is lmao, had to go ask how to make it lol 4. Expensive for flat plain food 5. Quality of food would be maybe better if u dont get it ice cold with just 20 customers (5 tables) in lol If this is my pub i sack them all

Food was good service and wait not good

We booked a table for 5 people at 2pm. The restaurant was extremely quiet with 3 members of staff out front. It took them half an hour to take our drinks order with no apology for keeping us waiting. The food order was taken and then took a further 45 minutes to come out. Again there was no 'sorry to keep you waiting', 'it won't be long' etc. No customer service whatsoever. When the food came it was lukewarm with cold peas. There were about 20 peas on my plate. The gammon was really fatty and not nice. Mh daughtervhad the smothered chicken meal. The garlic bread was burnt. All in all we did not have a good experience. My mum and her partner live in Bridlington and have spent £100's of pounds here over the years. The staff all know them. The restaurant needs an overhaul of management or at least a manager who will sort it out. I dread to think what it's like when busy.

We arrived and were told that they would accept bookings only. However, the place was practically empty. Upon leaving, we made a booking through the website to have a table within 20 minutes. Went back, only to be told off passive-aggressively by the manager and still not allowed a space. Again, the place was empty. I know they were having technical issues but this did not seem excusable. I have never used this chain before and will not be doing so in the future. Maybe better communication and a little understanding (as well as knowing how to talk to people) would go a long way here.

Went to Freeman for mother's day.. with my son. Waitresses Mary was very good. Order to food to service and quality of food was all excellent. Thank you for a very good experience.

Expensive for drinks only had a sharing plata but couldn't eat most of it.

Absolutely fabulous and friendly staff. Looked after us so well and catered for our dietary needs without any problem and our food cooked to perfection. Even let us use an armchair for our hotel room to make our stay more comfortable. Look forward to coming back.

Called in this pub on our day out to Bridlington for some Sunday lunch wasn't great we had the roast dinner and the vegetarian roast dinner it wasn't very hot the carrots tasted raw and I was disgusted with the vegetarian option hardly anything on the plate for the price you had to pay and then there was this dried up veggie chicken fillet which didn't look appetizing at all couldn't eat it and nobody even came over and asked us if everything was ok not be going there again.

A really unfortunate visit, it would be easier to list the things that went right with the evening out for my daughter’s birthday than the endless list of events that went wrong during the meal. Highlights of which included : Meals not arriving (missed off the order) Incorrect food arriving Fully uncooked chicken x 2 Staff disappearing for extreme amounts of time after being asked about anything. Drinks arrived wrong We ended up getting the meal for free and the manageress provided some nice pancakes for the kids. However all in all, in its current state I could not recommend.

What a great pub/ Restaurant would highly recommend a visit here if your in Bridlington. Great staff nothing too much trouble always very friendly.

Arrived at 4 30 previously booked the day before for party of 8 the girl told us there was no booking in our name she was quite abrupt she eventually gave us a table ordered our meals 4 ordered roast dinners after 15 mins the same abrupt girl told us there was no meat left so we ordered something else. 4 meals came and waited another 15 mins for the other 4 the chips were cold was never asked if we wanted a dessert so paid the bill and left bad experience won't be going back terrible

Haven't been for a year or so due to bad experience, won't be going again. Poor food, burgers dry , Chips reheated and dry, kids meals overcooked. Told the girl was the worst ever experienced here, she apologized but still asked full price. The woman manager couldn't care less. Go elsewhere.

The staff were really friendly and the food was at a good standard, better than weatherspoons but not by too much. We enjoyed the meal but it's nothing to sing about, overall a really nice experience but ! It was cold as they have turned the heating down or off...

Twice been to this establishment and been let down twice.... First time turned away even though not busy just under staffed and now the chef is poorly and there's a limited menu.... What the hell won't be coming back big disappointed

Good value meals and nice place to eat.

We arrived early at the premier inn which is just next door. We decided to have a drink before we went for a walk. We stood waiting at the bar when a young girl, a member of staff, walked in towards the bar. She asked if she could help us. I said yes, please can I have a cup of tea and a coffee . The girl said ok you will have to wait until someone else comes out. I can't log in at the moment. Ok, that was fine. Another girl came out and said to I guess was the supervisor. Can you serve them while I sort something. They seemed no organisation. After our drinks, we went for a walk before checking in at the premier inn. For our evening meal we decided to give the restaurant a go. We noticed on the menu that they have value meals for £5, 12pm until 6pm. At the restaurant we were seated at a table, to which a family sat behind us had been waiting for their meals for some time. We looked at the menu, and once we had decided, we waited for someone to take our orders. In the meantime, two young girl came in and sat down at a table opposite. No sooner had they sat down. A waiter went over and took their order. I had to get someone attention and ask if someone was going to take our order. The lady went to take our order. Of the value fish and chips. The waitress said I'm sorry they is no fish for the value meal. We do have haddock for an extra cost. We both agreed to have the haddock, chips, and mushy peas. We waited a while for our meals to arrive. When the fish and chips arrived. It wasn't hot or even warm. Fish was greasy, chips about 15 or so thin crispy chips, if you can call them chips. A spoonful of dried mushy peas. If that was meant to have been better value, then what would the £5 value meal like. A lovely young girl called mary came over and was very polite and happy to help. Came over to our table and asked if we would like anything else. We both decided to have a pudding. No problems with the puddings both was nice. Once we had finished we waited to get a waiter's attention to get the bill. The restaurant was filling up with only 3 staff members and more people waiting longer for there orders. I eventually got the attention and got the bill. We paid for our meal. It seems they are short staffed, with poor customer service. I will not recommend the cookhouse pub and we will not be returning

Overall this was very disappointing. The calamari i had was dripping with grease, the mixed grill wasn't fully hot, steak overcooked and chicken was half a nasty chicken breast. I wouldn't say it was so bad to send back, but I'm in no rush to go back here after hearing such good reviews. Shame. It seemed so promising

We've been going here for years for food and its been great value but recently the experience has started to be not a good one. I'm not sure if there has been some kind of business takeover but they always seem low on staff and attention to detail has suffered. Hopefully they can turn it round as it was a good venue.

I meet my friend once a month for lunch and we love it. Sophie is lovely and has good customer service. We have never had a bad meal. The whole place is great.

I have been so well catered for over the last few days . Having an egg allergy they took time to make sure I knew what I could have without fear of having a reaction. I was given a menu every day with the allergens listed for each meal. My food arrived with a green flag so I knew it had been checked for allergens . The best service and food I’ve had for a long time.

Great for breakfast, all you can eat, help yourself and kids eat free.

The only good part is the food was good overall. As soon as we were seated we were Forced to only select from the Boxing Day menu. No mention of this in the different pre printed menus we had been studying for a few days. Including ones that offer other meal deals and options. Hey ho not the end of the world. Waited 20 mins after finishing mains, empty plates still on table, no staff attention or care, gave up and left without dessert. Having had to go to the bar to pay but no surprise, the chap didn’t ask if we were ok. Lass behind the bar moaning to me that she hates working Boxing Day, apparently hated Xmas eve too, but Boxing Day is worse. Mood hoover love???!!! Go work somewhere else PLEASE and save us the sob story. Didn’t come to spend £50 on food and more on redwine, on Boxing Day, to listen to your woes 🥱 No onion rings with steak, had to go to kitchen to politely enquire. Was told our server should have mentioned they had run out. Steak dinner short of fave item. Toast with pate. Some toasted, some doughy. Just no love or care. Staff lovely but totally disorganised. No leadership. I would say disinterested and we were an inconvenience. Arrived 6pm aa per booking and waited so long to be acknowledged or seated, we left and returned later. Having been unable to find anywhere else open for dinner. Our fears were realised. Peppercorn sauce portions both different on the two steaks we ordered, and incredibly small portions of sauce on both. Sticky tables, felt grubby. This place was not overly busy. A spoiled Boxing Day treat for two carers with elderly family who needed our time love and attention for the entire Xmas holiday, we were trying to get to the seaside for some adult time away. But it was crap to be honest and we have been good customers at freeman cookhouse.

Awful experience, will never go again. Stood 15 mins waiting to be seated even though the place was empty. People walking out, no staff to serve or greet, freezing cold, watched food being sent back burnt. After 45 mins of waiting, decided to leave. Disappointed as was booked in for the Christmas dinner for 9 people so was difficult to find somewhere else at short notice. Absolute disgrace.

An absolute shambles Arrived and had to stand at the check in tables for a good 10 minutes whilst all the staff was stood looking at us. Then eventually got seated to have to wait ages before they even came over to take our drinks order. Then tried to order food to find out half the menu isn’t on offer on Christmas eve !!!! One of the guests on our party has ARFID and is extremely restricted as to what she will eat. Safe to say we walked out and won’t be returning

I really felt sorry for the service staff, as they went above and beyond. Unfortunately, the food was horrible, and we sent it back because it was cold. The stuffing was so hard and over cooked it was inedible. The roast potatoes had seen at least their third dip of the fryer as they were stuck together and hollow inside. Meat was lovely.

Great little pub attached to premire inn food is good service is good and staff are fantastic does get busy though breakfast there is fantastic as you can do unlimited breakfast from traditional full english to pancakes

Booked a table of 12 for a works christmas lunch, when booking requested wheelchair accessibility. Upon arrival we were greeted by Lexi whom led us to our table that was situated near the window so we had a lovely view of the sea. Plenty of choice on the menu and the 2 for £11.99 is a good deal. Orders were taken promptly. When our food arrived we were pleasantly surprised with the portion sizes , especially with it being on a meal deal. All food was fresh. We then ordered desert which was as good. Both Lexi and Sophie worked hard to meet our needs and compliments to the chef( Martyn I think his name is) a chef that actually prepares meals to the customers preference and catered for all our needs. We will be rebooking next Christmas if not before

Had to wait an hour before any food was served, the waiter/waitress was impolite and the food was poor when it finally was served. Obviously short staffed but why take on so many bookings if they cannot cope, just puts people off .

This bar surprises you on entering. It is quite a large floor area divided into smaller "rooms". It should feel cold and empty but the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Lovely friendly staff and extremely good menu at sensible prices. Worth looking in when you're shopping in Brid. Large carpark as well.

Arrived just after 12pm for saturday lunch as they have a festive menu i keep being emailed about- storm raging outside and message on restaurant door telling us to use hotel entrance around the corner. Stood waiting to be seated for too long,we are then informed they've decided not to open the restaurant until 12.30 would we like to wait and points us to a bar area full of dirty plates and cutlery which I object too and am informed they haven't cleared breakfast yet. We wait until 12.30 and are shown to our table,grease all over table top,hash brown and other breakfast remnants at our feet,we ask to be moved. As we peruse the menu we're informed they are not offering the festive menu today.I clench my teeth and we pick from the standard menu. We order. 15 minutes later i'm informed they don't have any pies and i need to choose again. 30 minutes later food for 2 of party arrives - a lot of which is cold but we're in no mood to wait any longer.After 10 minutes and still no food for 3rd party member we're asked if our meals are ok...... We rarely visit this place now as its usually dirty and poor service but thought we'd give it another go,by far the worst experience we've had here. Paid in full and left, I'm not sure this place can be saved.We'll certainly not be back.

We usually eat here every couple of weeks, it’s cheap and cheerful and I have previously left a good review. However, we went the other day and ordered a prawn cocktail with bread starter, a salmon main and a lasagne all to be served at the same time. We were the first in followed by two other couples in the next 30 mins. It took an hour to receive our food only after people who arrived after us had received their meal. I had to go to the bar to order another drink as no servers were around. The starter didn’t arrive until I’d eaten three quarters of my main. There was no bread, the prawns tasted like water and were served on a bed of lettuce and three pieces of cucumber. The salmon was dry but edible. The lasagne was nice though. As regular customers I thought we would be fairly compensated but was given a discount of a coke and the prawn cocktail. Won’t be returning in a hurry.

Staying at the premier inn. Arrived here for last drink just before 10pm to be told bar is closed even though it clearly states on your website that it's open till 11:00. No excuses for it.

Food good but served on cold plates.

Our experience today was unfortunately disappointing. First, the wait time was excessive. From placing our order to finally receiving our main course, it took over an hour—and even then, the food was lukewarm. We had to send it back, and after an additional wait, we received a fresh meal over an hour and 20 minutes after ordering (this was just from the standard lunch menu). The restaurant was practically empty when we arrived, but the staff claimed they were nearly fully booked with only four tables available. However, when we left, there were only three tables occupied, with more staff than patrons. Simple requests like mayo went unfulfilled, and overall, the food quality fell short of expectations. Unfortunately, with the lackluster service and underwhelming food, we won’t be returning.

There is not enough staff to take your order and serve the meals. They do not have specific allergy menus, lame excuse why they didn’t have one. The crust on the steak pie was that hard you could not get your knife through it. I can’t believe that the ladies toilets had 3 soap dispensers and not 1 was working, certainly not acceptable, the least they could do is put bottles of liquid soap on the sinks.

We are local people who often use the Cookhouse. The food is often cold and has to be sent back to reheat. The service is really bad because they never have enough staff. Today the seating in the restaurant was disgraceful with stained seats and remains of breakfast food on the floor and tables. The waitress moved us to another table which was just as bad. We only return because it’s convenient for where we want to be but we are seriously consider giving this place a miss altogether. It’s time they got their act together.

We ate here every Wednesday weekly. It has gone down and down. Tried to book, every time I rang they said system down. Arrived they asked if we booked i explained. They sat us at a table that there was food all over floor under table then came to tell us, the kitchen has not set up so will be 45 minutes before food. Would not take food order until kitchen was ready but kept sitting more and more people down, only 1 poor lady working. Then fire alarm went off. So we left. Think we will give it a miss in future. Bad service.

We booked a table for 8 people at 6pm days before, then when arriving, we were told there was a ‘reduced menu’ and even the reduced menu had items unavailable. Was around 5 items to choose from. No apology, no phone call or email to give prior warning of the poor and restricted choice. Massive shame. Luckily, plenty of other places in Bridlington to choose from.

Booked for 10.30 tables not cleared. No continental left which we paid for. Cooked breakfast needs alot to be desired. Was Luke warm and bacon really fatty. Will not be coming here again definitely not worth the money .

How can the Premier Inn supply chain run out of BBQ sauce !!? Very bad logistics. Portions have shrunk. Chicken tikka had only 5 pieces of chicken and a lot of sauce.

Called in not booked but not an issue breakfast was a big improvement and the staff were friendly and very helpful a big improvement on my last visit I used to visit here regularly but the last time the food wasn't the best but I thought I'd give another go and what an improvement

Everything that could go wrong did ordered drinks and they bought it wrong my mixed grill was ordered with no peas and it came with them it was medium it came all burnt to a crisp should have sent it back again didn't but my wifees smothered chicken was the real problem she said it was not very hot that was an understatement it was cold and not cooked in the middle. This is very dangerous as we all know that raw chicken is a healthy risk . the staff were very apologetic and didn't charge us. They really need to get there act together before someone is very ill

We stayed there at premier inn 4 nights

Visited on a weekday lunchtime and it was super quiet. We had two meals for £10 (or just over), which was a bargain and we couldn't complain about the food. Difficult to find anything healthy though, although there was a salad or two on the menu. Pretty standard pub food, everything with chips. Service was good and the place was clean and tidy.

Nice enough place. Staff were friendly and reasonably efficient. Food was underwhelming thanks to small portions, mash that looked like it’d been reheated for a week and the worst peas I think I’ve ever had in a restaurant. How can you get peas wrong

Just called for lunch. Food was under cooked on mains and poor quality and not very hot. Poor choice of starters. No garni on starters. Awful deserts. They don't do pouring cream anymore. They had no cherries for icecream sundaes and what I got had never been a knickerbocker glory. Over priced for what we had. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Sunday lunch was spot on, thanks kitchen. Greeted with a big friendly smile and room was made for the two extra diners we sprung on them without any fuss. Our waiting staff were very professional, warm and efficient. Sophie + 1 whom I believe to be restraunt manager are a great team, they seem to make the place work calm and smoothly. Thank you.

They seated us out of the way in a corner. It was hard trying to get their attention because they were busy talking amongst themselves to notice we required their service.

Went here with the family just to make up for birthday and christmasis where we could not be with family now we can as moved here and enjoyed our selves had a lovely meal and we enjoyed the special discount will come again.

Eventually asked to wait 30 minutes for a table ( there were plenty - this was to enable them to refuse to serve a Sunday roast at cut off time) Waited again at host point to be taken to a sticky table where we sat 10 mi uses waiting to have an order taken . Would not come here again despite its convenience being next to the hotel

Had lunch today at Cookhouse and as usual food was good- hot, tasty from the varied menu. Sophie and Dan excellent hosts. Gluten free menu has really improved to incorporate more dishes. We have card for 2 for 1 offer taken advantage of. Usually do Mon- Thurs lunch deal which is excellent value.

Love this restaurant/bar. Nice food and pleasant service. Always feel comfortable. I stayed at the hotel so also had breakfast here which was excellent.

The staff ans service was absolutely amazing. The restaurant was very busy but all the staff were great. Keeping hot food topped up and everything tidy and clean. 5 stars

I eat at The Freeman, in Bridlington, regularly. I used to find the food tasty and worth the price. However, on today’s visit the food was badly let down by the portion sizes. I have noticed that the amount of an item, has been reducing gradually over the months/years. Someone has now, taken portion control too far. I left feeling hungry today. I never have in the past. I may now only be eating at The Freeman, for Sunday lunches. Let’s hope that Sunday visit won’t be my last, due to tiny portions. The chef, has on a number of occasions, not cooked enough meat, for the Sunday roast bookings. Running out of Turkey, and Beef, by 14.30-15-00hrs! I can’t fault the waiting staff, they are always polite and friendly. Ps not wanting to upset too many parents. However, If you are trying to save money, make the breakfast deal, 1 free child’s meal, per paying adult.

Called for Sunday dinner,got there no dinners ,no meats left,very disappointed don't have this at brewers fayre, and they are owned by Whitbread as well.

As a regular customer, i have to say normally we enjoy our time here, staff are so lovely, no complaints with them, food also no complaints, but as for portion control, my word the food amount has taken a massive decline, we came away feeling like we needed another meal to fill us up, we also enjoy a sunday roast here, but on a couple of sunday visits they have run out of beef and turkey, which only leaves gamon, this has been between 2 and 3 oclock, should not be happening when sunday roast is advertised until 6pm.

Excellent staff, service and food

Excellent choice very good food. Large restaurant easy access. Staff are marvellous. You must book as very busy any time day or evening.

We arrived just about bang on midday so the start of the lunch time The restaurant is fairly large with plenty of seating arranged into sections giving each area a more intimate feel There was a board upon entry asking us to wait to be seated. The restaurant was almost empty. We could see two members of staff but neither acknowledged us. After a few minutes we decided that possibly at quiet times customers could simply select a seat and so we started to walk towards the seating areas. This gained a very quick reaction with a staff member instructing us to return to the entrance and wait to be seated We were then shown very specifically to where we would be seated. I commented to my wife that given how few people were in the restaurant I would have liked to have been asked if I had a seating preference and if so I would have selected a sea view. The couple next to us overheard and agreed that they had received the same treatment When the food arrived my first comments were that the meal looked smaller than I expected and was not particularly well presented I had beef pie and chips and my wife had chicken and pulled pork pie and chips Having removed two black chips from my plate the meal itself was well cooked and very tasty So the meal was ok, the venue was good but the staff were disengaged Given surroundings and food quality are the most important to me I would certainly be prepared to dine here again

Food okay but found the Bacon at breakfast to be slightly undercooked for my liking sausages were of good quality, just enough choice. We ate at the pub one evening and found this was basic pub grub but overall service was quick and staff were polite. Would stay again.
