Bridlington Seafront Cookhouse & Pub in East Riding of Yorkshire

Our experience today was unfortunately disappointing. First, the wait time was excessive. From placing our order to finally receiving our main course, it took over an hour—and even then, the food was lukewarm. We had to send it back, and after an additional wait, we received a fresh meal over an hour and 20 minutes after ordering (this was just from the standard lunch menu). The restaurant was practically empty when we arrived, but the staff claimed they were nearly fully booked with only four tables available. However, when we left, there were only three tables occupied, with more staff than patrons. Simple requests like mayo went unfulfilled, and overall, the food quality fell short of expectations. Unfortunately, with the lackluster service and underwhelming food, we won’t be returning.

There is not enough staff to take your order and serve the meals. They do not have specific allergy menus, lame excuse why they didn’t have one. The crust on the steak pie was that hard you could not get your knife through it. I can’t believe that the ladies toilets had 3 soap dispensers and not 1 was working, certainly not acceptable, the least they could do is put bottles of liquid soap on the sinks.

We are local people who often use the Cookhouse. The food is often cold and has to be sent back to reheat. The service is really bad because they never have enough staff. Today the seating in the restaurant was disgraceful with stained seats and remains of breakfast food on the floor and tables. The waitress moved us to another table which was just as bad. We only return because it’s convenient for where we want to be but we are seriously consider giving this place a miss altogether. It’s time they got their act together.

We ate here every Wednesday weekly. It has gone down and down. Tried to book, every time I rang they said system down. Arrived they asked if we booked i explained. They sat us at a table that there was food all over floor under table then came to tell us, the kitchen has not set up so will be 45 minutes before food. Would not take food order until kitchen was ready but kept sitting more and more people down, only 1 poor lady working. Then fire alarm went off. So we left. Think we will give it a miss in future. Bad service.

We booked a table for 8 people at 6pm days before, then when arriving, we were told there was a ‘reduced menu’ and even the reduced menu had items unavailable. Was around 5 items to choose from. No apology, no phone call or email to give prior warning of the poor and restricted choice. Massive shame. Luckily, plenty of other places in Bridlington to choose from.

Waited ten minutes to be seated just to be told they were not taking walk-ins on a Monday night however half of the tables were free

Wosrt service ever! Literally nothing to eat and drink! Not even an over exaggeration. Absolutely disgraceful service.

Booked for 10.30 tables not cleared. No continental left which we paid for. Cooked breakfast needs alot to be desired. Was Luke warm and bacon really fatty. Will not be coming here again definitely not worth the money .

How can the Premier Inn supply chain run out of BBQ sauce !!? Very bad logistics. Portions have shrunk. Chicken tikka had only 5 pieces of chicken and a lot of sauce.

Called in not booked but not an issue breakfast was a big improvement and the staff were friendly and very helpful a big improvement on my last visit I used to visit here regularly but the last time the food wasn't the best but I thought I'd give another go and what an improvement

Very meagre portions and food was tepid just above cold alot of diners saying the same and food being sent back to be warmed up as one diner said to the poor waitress have you served up the scrag ends very disappointing for a Sunday roast nothing like in the pictures advertised

Not a very welcoming shift manager, who moaned about making room, the place was empty, plain food. Won't be going back.

Everything that could go wrong did ordered drinks and they bought it wrong my mixed grill was ordered with no peas and it came with them it was medium it came all burnt to a crisp should have sent it back again didn't but my wifees smothered chicken was the real problem she said it was not very hot that was an understatement it was cold and not cooked in the middle. This is very dangerous as we all know that raw chicken is a healthy risk . the staff were very apologetic and didn't charge us. They really need to get there act together before someone is very ill

We stayed there at premier inn 4 nights

Visited on a weekday lunchtime and it was super quiet. We had two meals for £10 (or just over), which was a bargain and we couldn't complain about the food. Difficult to find anything healthy though, although there was a salad or two on the menu. Pretty standard pub food, everything with chips. Service was good and the place was clean and tidy.

Nice enough place. Staff were friendly and reasonably efficient. Food was underwhelming thanks to small portions, mash that looked like it’d been reheated for a week and the worst peas I think I’ve ever had in a restaurant. How can you get peas wrong

Nice for a snack or a meal. Never had a bad meal here and the staff are so welcoming.

Just called for lunch. Food was under cooked on mains and poor quality and not very hot. Poor choice of starters. No garni on starters. Awful deserts. They don't do pouring cream anymore. They had no cherries for icecream sundaes and what I got had never been a knickerbocker glory. Over priced for what we had. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Sunday lunch was spot on, thanks kitchen. Greeted with a big friendly smile and room was made for the two extra diners we sprung on them without any fuss. Our waiting staff were very professional, warm and efficient. Sophie + 1 whom I believe to be restraunt manager are a great team, they seem to make the place work calm and smoothly. Thank you.

They seated us out of the way in a corner. It was hard trying to get their attention because they were busy talking amongst themselves to notice we required their service.

Went here with the family just to make up for birthday and christmasis where we could not be with family now we can as moved here and enjoyed our selves had a lovely meal and we enjoyed the special discount will come again.

Waited 15 minutes to be acknowledged at the door despite no less than 4 staff making eye contact then quickly averting their gaze . Eventually asked to wait 30 minutes for a table ( there were plenty - this was to enable them to refuse to serve a Sunday roast at cut off time) Waited again at host point to be taken to a sticky table where we sat 10 mi uses waiting to have an order taken . Would not come here again despite its convenience being next to the hotel

Had lunch today at Cookhouse and as usual food was good- hot, tasty from the varied menu. Sophie and Dan excellent hosts. Gluten free menu has really improved to incorporate more dishes. We have card for 2 for 1 offer taken advantage of. Usually do Mon- Thurs lunch deal which is excellent value.

Decent enough -drinks are overpriced but most are in these type of places

Love this restaurant/bar. Nice food and pleasant service. Always feel comfortable. I stayed at the hotel so also had breakfast here which was excellent.

The staff ans service was absolutely amazing. The restaurant was very busy but all the staff were great. Keeping hot food topped up and everything tidy and clean. 5 stars

I eat at The Freeman, in Bridlington, regularly. I used to find the food tasty and worth the price. However, on today’s visit the food was badly let down by the portion sizes. I have noticed that the amount of an item, has been reducing gradually over the months/years. Someone has now, taken portion control too far. I left feeling hungry today. I never have in the past. I may now only be eating at The Freeman, for Sunday lunches. Let’s hope that Sunday visit won’t be my last, due to tiny portions. The chef, has on a number of occasions, not cooked enough meat, for the Sunday roast bookings. Running out of Turkey, and Beef, by 14.30-15-00hrs! I can’t fault the waiting staff, they are always polite and friendly. Ps not wanting to upset too many parents. However, If you are trying to save money, make the breakfast deal, 1 free child’s meal, per paying adult.

Called for Sunday dinner,got there no dinners ,no meats left,very disappointed don't have this at brewers fayre, and they are owned by Whitbread as well.

As a regular customer, i have to say normally we enjoy our time here, staff are so lovely, no complaints with them, food also no complaints, but as for portion control, my word the food amount has taken a massive decline, we came away feeling like we needed another meal to fill us up, we also enjoy a sunday roast here, but on a couple of sunday visits they have run out of beef and turkey, which only leaves gamon, this has been between 2 and 3 oclock, should not be happening when sunday roast is advertised until 6pm.

Excellent staff, service and food

Excellent choice very good food. Large restaurant easy access. Staff are marvellous. You must book as very busy any time day or evening.

We arrived just about bang on midday so the start of the lunch time The restaurant is fairly large with plenty of seating arranged into sections giving each area a more intimate feel There was a board upon entry asking us to wait to be seated. The restaurant was almost empty. We could see two members of staff but neither acknowledged us. After a few minutes we decided that possibly at quiet times customers could simply select a seat and so we started to walk towards the seating areas. This gained a very quick reaction with a staff member instructing us to return to the entrance and wait to be seated We were then shown very specifically to where we would be seated. I commented to my wife that given how few people were in the restaurant I would have liked to have been asked if I had a seating preference and if so I would have selected a sea view. The couple next to us overheard and agreed that they had received the same treatment When the food arrived my first comments were that the meal looked smaller than I expected and was not particularly well presented I had beef pie and chips and my wife had chicken and pulled pork pie and chips Having removed two black chips from my plate the meal itself was well cooked and very tasty So the meal was ok, the venue was good but the staff were disengaged Given surroundings and food quality are the most important to me I would certainly be prepared to dine here again

Food okay but found the Bacon at breakfast to be slightly undercooked for my liking sausages were of good quality, just enough choice. We ate at the pub one evening and found this was basic pub grub but overall service was quick and staff were polite. Would stay again.

We thought we would try to see after our last visit if they had done better with the food and presentation. Happy to say after this visit we enjoyed our food and it didn't look like it had been thrown on. Keep it up for people to keep returning.

This place is always my regular when visiting my parents. Breakfast is a fantastic buffet with a choice of hot and cold food. Kids eat free so it’s even better value. Fantastic Service and easy to park, Would recommend to anybody. Evening meals are just as good and have great offers. Would advise to book in advance on the website as this place is very Popular.

We had a lovely meal, the food is at a decent standard and really tasty. The service was absolutely brilliant, very friendly and attentive. We both really enjoyed the experience and would definitely go again.

1st time going will be the last expensive drinks

We had a meal in the restaurant last week when we stayed at the Premier inn. The food was tasty and was very reasonably priced. We had 2 meals from the value meal menu which only cost £10.99 for the two. Then we added a dessert for £2.99 each. We meant to take photos of them but forgot as we ate them quick. 😄

What shocking service! We had a large party booked in, upon one member of staff telling us the area of table that had been reserved for us the another staff member was so rude, they accused us of just walking in, denied that anyone would have told us these were our seats, demanded we had to walk back to the entrance to get seated…. our party did this only then to be shown the same seats we had been sat at! We were told we couldn’t order separately even this there were multiple couples and families all having prepaid for the meal deal as we were staying in the hotel. The staff acted as if this was the most complex situation when it really wasn’t! Made for a poor experience. The steak I had was actually quite nice, and the kind of food you would expect from a pub attached to a premium inn. Although after waiting a good 40 mins for my desert I asked if it was coming to be told the girl serving had forgotten to put it through the till. No apology for the shocking service either! At breakfast they were clearing the tables before we had even finished, we went to get more drinks (as we couldn’t carry everything at once) and came back to our untouched breakfasts and coffee having been cleared away. The plank pudding was also rancid and as hard as a bullet! Another evening we came back to have a drink after having gone to a lovely Indian restaurant down the road, we were sharply told that we needed to pay for the pool cues because we might break them, and we understood that there might be a policy of this, but they were so accusing and rude with it! We were bluntly told it was last orders at not even 11pm then told we had to be gone in the next 5 minutes, no smile with this service as they stomped around us getting things ready for breakfast the next morning. Would not recommend because the service was so bad.

Been 3 times for breakfast and each time the bacon was disgusting ! Shame because everything else was ok. Three times is too much ! Hence the score of 1 star. I’m fearful of being poorly with undercooked bacon like that !!

Disappointing. You know what to expect from a place like this but the food was very average. Starter was cold and replaced (thanks). Service slow and staff seemed bored. Manager helpful in organizing replacement starter but then both starter and main were served together (strange). Overall, not up to the usual standard and unlikely to make a return visit.

Gary met us + mumbled something about 'meal deal'. Didn't understand, said 'sorry'. His reply 'that's a no then". No explanation at all! Showed us to a table between 2 other tables close together. Private conversation was impossible as could overhear others at tables either side! His attitude to another couple who came in wasn't very nice at all. Dismissive to say the least. Went elsewhere for breakfast following morning. Gary needs a course in customer relations+management 🙄

Great service and food, spot of lunch with the family, 2 mains for £10.99, with desserts at £2.99 for mini sundae’s bargain, clean and tidy restaurant

Food is fab for price but I was particularly impressed by the service. Our server Sophie S was polite, attentive but not over bearing. I hope her management team utilise her skills for training other servers as her skills and attitude are very much appreciated. I would assume that she was part of a management team already but if not, her skills are being overlooked.

Carnt fault the staff they were really nice. The lass made my drink lovely.

Visited here for an evening meal after a four hour drive as it was virtually next door to where we were staying. At best, it was poor. Food seemed to have slipped through quality control! It was dry and warm. The waiter had poor hygiene and an ‘I couldn’t give a monkeys’ attitude when I mentioned a missed item off the order. The Wetherspoons up the road is much nicer for a lot less money and better service. On the plus side the family with kids on the next table seemed to be enjoying themselves!

Great service, food was delicious

I wouldn’t no about the Food as I didn’t get to try. Gary the manager is an ignorant man who will lie to you and talk about you to other members of staff. I have to stay at Premier Inn through work I arrived and tried to get a table told there was none available for over one and a half hours I was amazed as there was a few tables empty. I sat and had a couple of drinks and watched as other staff members sat people down who hadn’t booked while I was left to wait the tables that were empty some stayed empty for the 2 hours I was in the bar. Having stayed at this Premier inn previously on a number of occasions the other staff members are very friendly and helpful but unfortunately let down by the manager’s attitude.

Came for a family 18th birthday celebration. Service was great, food fresh and tasty. Place was spotlessly clean and all staff happy to help, not just your server. Katsu chicken was a delicious if lighter meal - left room for the ice cream sundae.

Main meal excellent, best for a while, Dessert average, Luke warm at best, food staff decent, bar staff, not so much, and can someone ask the young girl on reception to maybe perk up a little,

We come here every 2 weeks when working in the area we called and found the croissants were not fresh the fresh orange juice had been replaced with a cheap dilute alternative which was poor also the price has increased i don't think we will be going again very disappointed

Customer service was horrendous staff were vey pushy and impatient ordered food and they walked away without mentioning that they didn’t have the main ingredient when we asked for it they told us they didn’t have any and the member of staff was quite blaze as if they didn’t care. Won’t go back.

We arrived just as they were calling last orders, so I cannot comment on whether the food was any good. The drink prices were reasonable though and there was a very large car park.

Based next to the premier Inn it offers a high end menu in Bridlington The quality of service is outstanding everything is immaculate and spotlessly clean A fine range of beers If your looking for somewhere that little bit special in Bridlington this is the place to visit My wife assures me the coffee is pleasantly palatable and sitting outside on a hot sunny day with those wondrous views is amazing

Came today for a table of 9 at 1900 Food was lovely absolutely lovely and very clean food arrived quick However though the serivce was not at its best no serivce no smiling no asking if was OK for more drinks felt rather uncomfortable 4 stars simply for the food

Lovely food and drinks. Nachos, mixed grill and Coors lager, all of which we really enjoyed. Pleasant staff, efficient with a professional attitude. Capped off by accepting my blue light card for a 25% discount…..,happy days

We stayed at the Premier Inn for a weekend as a large group (40) people which is often difficult to get catering for. We booked one evening Dinner and one breakfast at the Cook House for all 40 of us. We had a few dietary requirements all of which were met well without fuss. Making the booking and arrangements was well managed and the Managers were very helpful both before arrival and during our visit. For such big numbers (we had pre ordered) our food was delivered on time, promptly and hot. Such a wide variety of food choices too. On the Hotel meal deal package this was great value for money. The waiting staff on the evening were very very helpful and keen to ensure we all got served promptly as I said. Young staff, but well trained and very polite. Breakfast was received in a similar vain, great choice good service just what we needed to ensure we got away for our days activity. Credit where credit is due

Really nice modern restaurant. Stayed for 1 night at neighboring premier inn. We visited the cookhouse for dinner and breakfast and have to say both experiences were really pleasant and the food was really nice and very reasonably priced. Sophie who looked after us was really friendly and nothing too much trouble

Popped for breakfast this morning. The food was lovely. Really impressed. All the tables were clean but sticky and there were no staff around so I wasn't sure where to log my registration for the car park but got sorted last on. The selection of drinks was great. Toilets were immaculate. I'd definitely come back.

Steaks were very chewy - rest of the meal ok. After getting meals asked for more drinks to be told sorry I've got food to take out - Waiter then shouted to another member of staff to get our drinks. The lady that took our order was very helpful and friendly other staff not so much.

Fantastic meal . The food was great and good value. We were seated on the table that has sea views. Service was great. Would recommend.

It’s a lovely bar/restaurant but the food has really gone down hill wasn’t great. I had a jacket potatoe with cheese and Beans and the beans were all dry like they were over cooked the potatoe was hard and very dry and bland came with a side salad which contained few pieces of lettuce and 2 pieces of tomato’s. My husband got a mixed grill again the meats weren’t cooked enough tiny pieces of meat and the peas and chips were very dry it’s like they chucked all the food in a microwave. Thing is if you order a mixed grill you expect to get decent sized tasty meats especially for the price you pay. The staff were great tho shame about the food. 👎 Sorry we won’t be returning

We have been here several times before as we live less than 250m away. The food is standard chain pub grub but generally good value and the place is convenient for us. The main problem is that their are not enough staff, so you always have to stand for ages waiting to be seated, then wait ages again for someone come and to take your drinks order, wait ages again for the drinks to arrive and order your food and wait again for it to arrive, so don't go if you are in a hurry. In most chain pubs you enter, find a table, choose your meal from the menu, order at the bar and it arrives - no hassle. This place tries to pretend it is some full service fancy restaurant (wait to be seated, order drinks and food at the table), but all you get is a long wait and standard pub grub. Our latest visit was probably our last. I have mobility problems and cannot stand for very long. After waiting to be seated for a while with no interest from the staff I found a waitress and asked if we could just sit down but was told "NO you have to wait by the door to be seated" so we just left.PS. It's a shame but prior to the Premier Inn being built the original computer generated impression of the completed building presented to planning showed a Brewers Fayre rather than a Cookhouse & Pub - this would have been so much better!

Nice breakfast and good selection of food for both breakfast and evening meal. The staff were polite and efficient nice stay all round

Tasty food, pleasant staff but sooooo slow. UPDATE: much better speed this time even though it was busy. Food was hot and tasty, and good value. Tiny mishap on the order/bill, but resolved quickly and effortlessly. Would definitely revisit.

The food was amazing and was very quick the problem was the person that lead us to our table spent 5 minutes clicking on the computer after we had to go get them after 5 minutes on waiting because staff was talking.The lady that brought us drinks was so kind as i expected . Sadly she didnt have a name tag on so i cant give compliments ao a single person. Everybody else was great !

Had table booked at cookhouse and never had us booked in then said we could not have one till 7.15 which is to late to eat with kids stay and at premier inn till new year day also it happened to us rhia time last year I no they was going to get busy but to turn people away is bad when we booked i no as I work for the company myself and we always find room i would like someone to get back to me as for now not coming in agon we are staying till new year day

We were all disappointed, First of all the table booked for 5pm managed to sit down at 5.30 only to find that we were drinks missing,got that sorted. First course we had to send the soup back as it was cold, main course christmas dinner the veg was very hard even the peas very small portions, desserts were even smaller. after desserts we thought off going to play cards and have a drink went too the bar at 19.03hrs only to find out the bar was closed even though we were staying in the hotel, it would have nice to be informed that this would be happening, overall this spoilt christmas day, Sorry to say we will not be having christmas with you again

l'm sorry to be writing this review, but we fell very let down. we have just had christmas dinner with you,we were dissapointed with the quality and the way the veg was cooked. Started with table being late, one of the glasses hadn't been filled starters the soup had to be sent back as it was cold Main meals brussel's and pea's were rock hard ,the size of the desserts were too say the least small. Then the worst was at 1903 hrs trying too buy some more drinks we were told the bar was closed SHOCKED. We are sorry to say we will not be returning for christmas with you again

Waitress's attitude stunk. Eye rolling when given money towards the bill for our first round of drinks. We were a party of 8 and the bill could not be split for each individual to pay for what they had. The waitress said it was to much effort to do this. Manager was just as useless in regards to the bill. Some of our group have had to put money aside to be able to attend the meal due to the cost of living crisis and the night was ruined by the staff. Also to say it was 5 days before Christmas no festive atmosphere in the place. Disappointed which is a shame as had many good meals previously. Food was good though just crap service.

Completely shocking. Took 35 mins from sitting down to getting my food. I payed for unlimited breakfast to then be told you have to order it. No buffet. It wasnt unlimited at all. The bacon was uncooked. The beans were cremated. Over all a shocking experience and will not be using again

Good pub food but could be served on a plate the isn't cold. Their are many posts about Luke warm meals so needs sorting out!

Good food, quick service, perfect for an quick bite as a couple. Breakfast is very good, but book in advance or it is likely you wont get a table. Even when tables are free. 2 kids eat free with a paying adult at breakfast too, would be rude not to try.......
