Excellent Quality Food visited on a Saturday Evening We had the Sirloin steak with all the trimmings it was beautifully cooked just as we ordered staff are so friendly & Exceptional Manager Steve Credit to the whole team who makes The Down Inn The place to go for Carvery & orther Food on the menu

We have been going to The Down many years, always recommended it to people, I would think twice now. We were shown to our table, all seated fine, 20 minutes later no one came back with any menus to order starters or take orders for drinks, we got our own drinks & on the way I asked for menus, the waitress brought them other & literally tossed the on the table saying ‘there’s your menus’ & walked away. Again, no one returned therefore we decided to go straight to carvery, as we went to get up a young lad came to ask did we want starters, we asked him about table service & his reply was ‘oh you haven’t been for a while then’ ???? We got our carvery which at best was average, overcooked ‘wet’ brocolli, cauliflower cheese - was cauliflower in a white sauce…no cheese, parsnips that had been under the heat lamp for so long they were like leather, we ordered mash which was bought to the table this was packet mix ‘smash’ awful!!! Overall experience was poor, food not good, service appalling. We were aware Steve was on holiday & can only assume this was the reason. Not once were we asked if everything was ok, perhaps they knew it wasn’t & we’re afraid of negative feedback, hence my review.

Food was amazing as always, hadnt been up for a few months due to work, didnt disappoint. However, the staff are questionable. Staff chucked a menu at me specifically and we found it very rude as my family members were given theirs, dirty looks, didn’t feel welcome at all. Weren’t checked back on during our meal. Massive shame.

Warm friendly greeting on arrival Bar service good Friendly waitress with a sense of humor ( she could have been the landlady) Ordered 2 Carvey meals with meat and 2 Mushroom Wellington with carvery vegetables. Were told when the Wellingtons were ready at carvery Massive selection of hot tasty vegetables, crispy parsnips and crispy roast potatoes which so many places get wrong but these were just perfect. The Wellingtons came out on massive plates I asked for a Yorkshire with my Wellington meal and to my surprise the young chef who was very pleasant actually said " let me get you one that has not been sitting on the meat" what a change from other places, I thought was very thoughtful, The waitress had taken vegetarian gravy to the table Meat carvery plates were also well loaded Masses of food The desserts were amazing and cheap I have to I am well able to complain when things are not right, but this was just perfect Look forward to a return visit

I cannot remember when I last went for lunch and was so blown away like today - the staff are really awesome and the food is exceptional- we asked for something not on the menu (a ploughman’s) it was phenomenal… the variety and quality was beyond words. I want to thank Steve, the head chef (whose name I didn’t get - sorry) and the exceptional bar and waiting staff. You made my pre-60 and my friends post-60 fabulous xxx

Had heard good things so decided to give it a go. We both had steak and it was a perfect meal, great quality and well cooked. We may have had an ice cream sundae as well, and we certainly may weren't disappointed. Service and price also very good indeed. Will be back to try the carvery!

I booked a night here last minute for my partners birthday just for a change of scenery. When we arrived we was checked in and shown to our room and left to settle. The room was spacious and clean and the bed was comfortable. We had booked a table in the restaurant and the restaurant staff was were extremely prompt and polite. The food was AMAZING! we had three courses and each one did not disappoint. Breakfast the next day again was delicious and with a wide rage and really good quality produce. Again the staff was so pleasant and attentive. We stayed for a carvery after checkout and again the food was amazing you could tell how fresh the produce was all cooked to perfection. If you wanted to visit for a carvery i would 100% recommend booking as its gets very busy not surprisingly with how nice the food is.

My wife and I stayed at The Down Inn at Bridgnorth last night after attending a family wedding at a nearby venue. We only stayed one night but what a fabulous welcome we got, including an early check in. Our room was fantastic, really large and with a lovely comfortable bed. It was so quiet, which meant we both had a great nights sleep. The shower was really powerful and the breakfast was one of the best I’ve had. Bridgnorth is such a beautiful place that we’ve decided to come back and stay for a few days so we can go out and visit the area properly and we’ve decided that we’ll definitely be staying at the wonderful Down Inn. Thank you for a short but wonderful stay.

Stayed here for 1 night with dinner and breakfast. The rooms were lovely really comfy beds. Great showers. We had carvery for dinner which was amazing great service from all staff throughout. The breakfast had everything I can think of for a full English well presented and again great service. Well done to all the team you are doing a great job

My husband and I stayed here for one night. It was a very pleasant stay. Our room was spacious, tastefully furnished and spotless. It was a Sunday so a carvery was being served and we both had roast beef with all the trimmings. Absolutely delicious! Very good breakfast too. Everyone very welcoming. Highly recommend.

We enjoyed returning to The Downs for a Sunday carvery today. Flipping brilliant. The turkey was thick cut and succulent and the vegetables were all fresh and seasonal. Staff were all friendly and service is great. Top carvery locally.

Superb Well organised 57 happy people in my coach party and the food melted in your mouth!. Proper pre covid service levels and an attentive owner acting as head waiter and the waiting staff seemed to all be enjoying themselves. Coach operators - book this with confidence! Steve knows the meaning of service!

Went there with a coach outing from a local church. The carvery meal was top notch and the desserts were none too shabby either! Had a couple of decent ales on too and not too pricey. Very friendly and efficient service. Hope to get back there again one day.

Based on earlier reviews my wife and I visited The Down Inn on a Tuesday lunchtime in March. We had not booked in advance but were warmly greeted and there was a choice of tables available. We noticed there was already a coach-party there using a separate function suite. We both opted for the carvery meal and ordered drinks. The barman advised that we take our seats for a short while as the carvery was busy dealing with the coach party and he came to tell us when the queue had subsided. A nice touch ! The meal itself was excellent with good friendly service and 3 meat choices with a wide range of well cooked and presented vegetables etc. The pub offered a choice of well-kept real ales and, obviously a full range of drinks, coffee etc. The carvery, at £13 per head was excellent value for money. There is a full menu of other options available at keen prices too. I would describe the decor as a bit tired and dated but all was perfectly clean and presentable. All bar and food staff were very friendly and helpful. Well worth a visit although I have noticed the place appears very busy at weekends when we have driven past so booking in advance would be wise.

We went on a coach trip with golden day tours for the over 55 s Nightmare journey there as the coach driver was clearly lost. We arrived over an hour late. Carvery was okay but not worth all the hassle of getting there. Entertainment was not great and we certainly did not feel we had value for money. A very disappointing experience.

We stayed overnight and had dinner and breakfast. Room was spacious, comfortable, clean and had nice welcoming touches. Dinner was delicious and very generous portions. Breakfast likewise tasty and plenty of it. Staff were all really helpful and welcoming. Would definitely recommend.

A family group of 5 enjoying a Mother’s Day Sunday carvery. The pork, turkey and beef all cooked to perfection, similarly the vegetables good choice, all looking fresh and appetising. Super choice of deserts with soft ice cream. We will return it’s was a splendid meal in friendly environment. Generous portions and good price.

We were a small wedding party of about 12 and a couple of kids. We chose the Down because of its reputation as the best carvery for miles around, and it didn’t disappoint, it was as superb as ever! We were well looked after by the excellent friendly staff who went the extra mile to make it a lovely occasion. It’s still the best!

Stayed here overnight last night ,we were early to book in but that was not a problem for the management who arranged for our room to be made up 1st we said we would have a drink while we waited . They were fully booked for food but we were offered a table that was going to be passed by with customers queuing for the carvery we said we did not mind as they were doing us a favour . We sat down to one of the best carvery’s I’ve had it was hot & the food was fabulous quality & so much choice and the portions were massive it set us up for the day . After a drink at the bar we were shown to our room , lovely & warm well laid out so spacious the bathroom had bath & shower with added extras of toiletries the bed was amazing & comfortable great night sleep . We had breakfast a great choice & again the best ingredients high quality cooked to perfection . The staff were amazing friendly & well organised helpful & polite all round a fab stay 100% worth every penny thank you so much & keep up the good work we will be back 🙏❤️

Don’t eat here if you want to lose weight. Great meat choice Beef Pork and Turkey all tasty meats luckily the chef had a blunt knife lovely slices of beef and pork. Piling the vegetables on your plate is an art form itself Roast and boiled pots Yorkshire pudding the size of a frisbee leeks cauliflower cheese peas parsnips carrots red cabbage mashed swede. All hot and delicious Followed up with blackcurrant cheese cake and chocolate extravaganza. Truly delicious meal would recommend to all plus an a la carte menus available. Service great too.

Booked a day trip with Middletons Tours the venue was The Down Inn, we had lunch and entertainment. When we arrived the room was all laid out and ready to go , the whole event was well organised with friendly helpful staff. Carvery was exceptional quality, piping hot food cooked to perfection. And such a wide choice of both meats and vegetables. Deserts also very tasty a choice of four. Vegetarian options are available if preferred.

Never disappoints stayed over 3 times now and booked for new years eve this year again, food is top notch and rooms are of high standard with everything you need, nice friendly staff who couldn't do enough for us at breakfast of which I was looking forward too, definitely recommend to anyone considering staying overnight Thank you the down inn for making new tears eve enjoyable see you soon

We've been going to the Down's for Sunday lunch for years. Steve and staff never disappoint. Food is excellent and fantastic value.

We're regularly visit the downs however last night service and food very poor carvery was fantastic and the chef serving was great very friendly, we ordered steak and steak kidney pie , steak was tuff like it had been put in the microwave steak n kidney pie tasted like a steak n ale kidney pie very weird taste and a mini portion no steak knife given sauce didn't come out as ordered and had to keep looking for staff for extra drinks clear tables , my 5 year old had the carvery which was good he had the best food until his chocolate cake came which was rock hard like a piece of concrete so disappointed we love the downs its so cozy please up your standards maybe take less notice of all the farmers drinking at bar and look after your regular diners instead.

1st visit and didn't have a good 1st impression. No warm welcome and the young gentleman serving us drinks clearly hadn't been trained properly. Spoke so quietly we couldn't hear him and had no idea about beer/bitters when my husband asked. We were then sat down by someone who I presume was the manager. No explanation of what to do, no menus given and not asked if we wanted water. After sitting for 10 minutes waiting for someone to come over, a family member had to find a member of staff and ask what we do. Only then was it explained to us where the carvery was. We were then asked if we wanted starters whilst standing there which I didn't even realise were on offer. 3 stars are for the food and the gentlemen serving the meat. At least he was friendly. This place would be great if staff were trained properly and customers cared about and had the process explained. Will not be returning which is a shame.

We were staying in the pub's (very large roomed) accommodation and ate in the reataurant. Opted for the carvery (a real blast from the past) which was a real belly buster and incerdibly good value for money.

Went yesterday (11/11) with people from our retirement complex in Birmingham, and everybody had a great time pub and staff were welcoming, Carvery was excellent and the entertainment fantastic, and as said before a good time was had by all, would I recommend this place yes without doubt. yes all our party was elderly but contrary to another reviewer we have not lost our taste buds, and would suggest if people complain about the food at the Down Inn they should stick to places who sell food they might be more used to, like McDonald's or K.F.C.

Came here with family as a quick stop for a carvery. Not going to again. Of the four of us that visited two of us were ill and to have paid what I paid for a bland, tasteless carvery, I feel ripped off. The meat was good, but all of the veg was reheated stuff. You can see why this appeals to old people, who have no tastebuds. Will go back to the Punchbowl from now on.
