The Down Gate in West Berkshire

Lovely pub lovely food my only criticism is it was a cold day could of done with it a bit warmer inside but a lovely welcome all the same

Popped in after walking dog on the common found the young staff and regulars very friendly .The dog loved the log burner and the foid looked decent the owner should be proud of the standards of his establishment .Wish we Lived nearer !

My daughter and I decided to visit Hungerford and treat ourselves to a pub lunch. Using TripAdvisor reviews, we were encouraged to give The Downgate a try. Good choice. We both enjoyed an impressive plate of scampi and chips which came accompanied by a salad of variety and quality. The staff were friendly and the locals gave the place a sense of community. It was nice to be a part of that.

Lovely walk around Hungerford Common, and then a brilliant meal and drink at The Downgate Pub afterwards. We had the sausage and mash and fish and chips, and both were really enjoyable, also the portion sizes were perfect. Really nice Saturday afternoon spent here with our little dog.

We had the loveliest food and service here, I started with a prawn cocktail, it was amazing, I spoke to the young lady who made it and she said she was trying to perfect her recipe, it was perfect she had made it with a slight hint of chilli and that worked amazingly. We then had steaks which were tender and flavoured beautifully and home made onion rings were the best I’ve ever had. The young lady was also really lovely and when the pub cleared out later he was playing all different songs for us. 5 stars well done.

Me and my other half went there for a meal, and even though it was an okay meal, it was very uncomfortable, whilst me and my partner were having a chat the staff and customers would come and sit by us and start chatting away when we were trying to eat and be together. I found it a little rude. Not a place I would recommend unfortunately.
