I've been wanting to try this pub for a while to see it's famous zeppelin hit clock. I have been on antibiotics so couldn't drink alcohol yet I wanted to try a few pubs in the city by the time I got to the Dolphin I had soft drink burnt out, so I explained this to bar man and asked for a packet of crisps, where I was told " why don't I go to corner shop and pay 50p for a pack instead of £2 " when I said again why and I wasn't trying to be difficult, I was told defensively" not am I , I'm trying to save you money " when I asked if I could bring a pack in to the pub I was told I couldn't, so begrudgingly ordered a lemonade for £2 the same price of the crisps I was denied. The barman did explain he was just helping out and didn't work there but he had zero people skills, drinking from a bottle as he was working and any small chat I made was just welcomed by his Northern disinterested drone. Shame I liked the vibe of the pub , loved the knik knacks around the bar , the carpet, but the toilets were grim , black mold on the walls , I'm not asking for modernisation of them as they are in keeping with the character of the pub but it does need a paint job. I would go back just keep that guy as a customer not a "worker" as he soured my experience of a great old boozer.

Lovely, traditional corner pub in Holborn. An unpretentious boozer selling a couple of well-kept cask ales; Landlord and Ghost Ship at the time of my visit. Plus other drinks and traditional pub grub. Popped in mid-afternoon during a lull in customers and had a good chat about the history of the pub, with the old clock, photograph and text description being pointed out to me. The text reads: 'THE DOLPHIN TAVERN - hit by an H.E. Bomb dropped by Zepp L.13. on the 9th of Sept 1915. 3 men were killed. The old clock was recovered with the hands stopped at 10.40 p.m. - the time the tavern was hit.' (HE = high explosive.) I love unspoilt, traditional pubs. Definitely worth a visit.

An Institution. My dad used to work in Red Lion Square back in the 80s, and remembers when this place had sawdust on the floor. I now work in the area and this was my watering hole for almost 4 years. Great, no-nonsense British pub and a great controversy - as I would definitely recommend it to tourists as a 'real British pub experience', but at the same time want to keep it sacred and untouched. A refreshing break from the hipster / gastro / artsy-fartsy candlelit pubs of today. Selection of beers won't take your breathe away, but has a nice combination of continental lagers and British ales. The place had a bomb dropped on it by a Zeppelin airship in the first world war, so make sure you look out for the charred flame-grilled clock, pulled from the rubble, which adorns one of the walls. It's presented with absolutely no pretence whatsoever - when you'd expect any other owner/establishment to name the place 'The Hindenburg' or 'The Smokey Chronometer' and knock the arse out of it completely.

Gloriously bog standard pub. The exceptionally surly barman has been doing a fine job of keeping tourists and fussy people out of his establishment for many years. I've no idea why this pub is still in business, but it's delightful. No-one here will be drinking bottled American craft beer while nodding along to their bluetooth headphones as they work on their business plan. Thank God. Average British beer is available. Decent chance of being able to sit in peace even at lunchtime. Has a nice little space to stand in during good weather. I think they do food but that would be to miss the point. Recommended unless you care about trivial things like service with a smile or trendy decor, or wasabi peas.

Stumbled across this pub and after a few seconds I certainly felt at home. With 3 choices on tap, the real ale was a top standard and with a few mini booths and plenty of stools, I felt this was not bad for a quiet small pub. It's tucked away from the crowded lunch time crowds and apparently owned by a charity hence why this small independent pub will be sure to get a visit from me soon.

A lovely spot with great coffee! I only had coffee, but it was high-quality and delicious. There was a small mix-up with my order-I asked for a double espresso but received a single. However, the staff quickly corrected it and made me a new one right away. The background music creates a pleasant atmosphere, offering a nice escape from the noise and traffic outside. Would definitely recommend

One of the best roasts I've ever had. I went for their closing day, and I am so sad I won't be able to have this meal again. The head chef is amazing - there was a selection of 10 different roasts to choose from, all within reasonable price £23-28 considering how big the portion was. The service was equally great! We spent a reasonable amount, considering we all had a roast, a drink and a dessert each!
