The Dog & Quayle in Ashfield

Found this place when passing it earlier in the day as we were staying at Eastwood Hall. Having dog in the name we thought it would be a good dog friendly venue which it is. The food service was on the slower side but when it arrived it was obvious why; everything was cooked fresh and piping hot. We were a family of 6 and ordered a real mix of food types. The Indian food was really good, full of flavour and rich in colour, spices and texture. Extremely friendly service and very affordable prices. Kind of a weird mix of menus, British; Indian & Moroccan which usually means not great at anything but the burgers were very good and the Indian dishes pretty amazing and much more the sort of thing I’ve experienced at some of London or Dubais “high end” Indian restaurants. If you’re local or staying in the area give this place a go, the richness in flavour isn’t what we expected but certainly very pleased with what we had.

Came as a family of 5 with a baby and dog....staff all very friendly to us all including the dog. Food was very nice and good quality none of us left hungry. Would highly recommend.

Dreadful. Avoid. Geordie guy serving is very ignorant and rude. A proper chauvinist. Very basic carvery with frozen style yorkshire puddings.

Came here last week for the first time in ages. It’s been has a refresh and it’s now lovely and bright. There was a warm welcome from the owners. The carvery was lovely - good voice of meats and vegetables and good value. Everything was very fresh and was constantly replenished. We enjoyed it so much, we’re visiting again this weekend!

I, my wife and two friends chose The Dog and Quayle as a place to have our dinner. We were warmly greeted on our arrival and shown to a very nice table. The menu was perhaps a little limited but we had no problem finding meals that suited us. We were told that all of the food is prepared on the premises. I chose the Lasagna which was nicely presented. My wife and one of our friends ordered the Sea Bass, served with. Mashed potatoes . Our other friend ordered the Rump Steak (medium). We all of us cleared our plates, having enjoyed our meals. We finished a very enjoyable evening with Sticky Toffee puddings and Tiramisu. I want to thank the owner, who made sure that we were all happy and to let him know that the next time we are in the area, we shall make a point of enjoying another meal at the Dog and Quayle.

This is a pub we used to go to on a regular basis with friends until it closed down. This is the first time we have been back and it will be the last. It was around 6pm and we asked about the carvery but it had closed but the guy said we can do you a roast. We ordered two Turkey roasts at £14.99 each. OMG when it came, it had 7 different vegetables on, mostly what I don't eat. There was that much on the plate you couldn't find anything. On top was a stone cold yorkshire pudding. Everything tasted stewed and horrible. The owner kept coming to the table and saying you must eat it all, we only have small appetites and told them this when ordering. We managed to eat some of it but left it as it was luke warm. Never again will we go to this pub. It was disgusting. Another couple came in to order the same but we couldn't warn them.

Despite reading the adverse reviews we decided to give it a try. Underneath the sign "Dog & Quayle" right at the top of the building it says "Pub and Carvery Restaurant". As you enter the pub there is a further sign that says "Carvery". On entering we asked if there was a carvery and was told No, only at weekends. They did however say that they had a good menu so my wife and I decided to stay. We ordered drinks and 2 meals, my wife had creamy carbonara and I had 10oz ribeye steak. We were the only customers in the pub at 1.15 pm Friday lunchtime. After about 10 minutes another couple came in, ordered food and drink, they were served promptly, got their food, finished it and left. We were still sitting there waiting for our food, the waitress then came up and apologised, said there would be a delay because the chef had forgotten the order! I fail to understand when at the time we ordered, ours was the only order, how you can forget about it! After approximately half an hour the food arrived. My wife's carbonara was fine except that thy had forgotten it should come with garlic bread and a side salad. My 10oz ribeye was served on a wooden board which unfortunately meant that it would be impossible for the food to remain warm. In fact the only thing that stayed warm were the chips that came in a wire basket. I cannot say for certain that it wasn't a 10oz ribeye because I had no means of weighing it, however throughout my lifetime I have eaten hundreds of ribeye steaks. This particular one at the thickest probably measured about 1/4 inch and at other places was no thicker than a slice of beef. We weren't offered the opportunity of other condiments. The waitress did in fairness deduct £10 from the bill. Our experience was not a favourable one and unfortunately we won't be returning although I suspect that it won't be too long before there is nothing to return to. 10th May 2024

Took ages to be served at the bar, i ordered 2 carvery's a glass of wine and had 2 have 2 half pints of coke as they dont sell a pint of coke? £43.00 the food was average at best and had to ask to bring out vegetables as serving bowls were empty. Really disappointed as this used to be a good fair priced sunday carvery. Wont be going back anytime soon.

Me and fella was walking in. As we was walking in there was empty glasses on the outside tables that looked like they were there for a while. We walked in and waited to be seated. Stood there for about 5 minutes before we got served. We ordered our carvery and 2 drinks. I asked for an alcoholic drink and said I had a baby face but just ignored when I said do you want my id. Then he just gave me my drink anyways. We went to sit down and had to change tables twice due to the tables being sticky and not been wiped down. When we got a table that wasn’t sticky, we sat down for a few minutes then we went up and got our carvery. Waited about 10-15 minutes until we got served. When we finally got served the guy who served us was just on the phone talking to his friend while cutting our meat. My fella had a lot of meat on his plate and then I asked if I could have less meat and I think it was the manager said I had to have that amount of meat because I asked for a large when we didn’t ask for a large. The plates are all one size whether you have a large or not. The vegetables and mash patatoes where cold. The manager was telling us off for the little of food we had on our plates and made us get more. Don’t not advice for you to go here. The food is shocking the atmosphere wasn’t that great. Overall the worst place I have been to.

The sign said dogs are welcome. Our dog was on a lead laying down under the table. There was another dog there owned by the staff. It growled at our dog when we came in and they picked it up. But then they let it down and kept throwing a ball for it near our dog and their dog would growl at our dog. We asked them to keep the dog away but they kept coming back. Their dog then tried to bite our dog. We left.

Carvery was cold all vegetables tasted strange,aunt bessy yorkshire puddings not cooked properly and quite expensive will not be bothering again

Carvery was disgusting and served out pirex dishes there was no veg and about 6 people stood waiting for the tiny pirex dishes to be filled with veg kids serving behind bar not good will not return

Went for a carvery for my daughters birthday we were greeted by 3 kids serving behind the bar which I find very unprofessional they shouldn’t be serving behind the bar The carvery was awful the meat was dry the veg was all dried up and cold After the meal the plates were left on the table for the rest of our time there We ordered another round of drinks but I had to go back and change the wine glass as it had lipstick on it £86.00 we spent for 3 of us £6.40 for one medium glass of red wine you are having a laugh Over priced served by kids makes Wetherspoons look like the ritz I don’t normally complain but I thought I need the owners to read this review Please take this review seriously it was an awful experience on a special day

I had read all the negative reviews but I wanted to see for myself and I am glad I did because the food was exceptional the Fish and chips my wife loved because the fish was fresh and the chips home made I had the lamb chops which were very tasty my grand daughter had the carbonara which she loved. The service was very good and the owner couldn't do enough for us.

had the sunday carver of roast beef which was delicious very tender the vegiables were piping hot all in all a beautiful meal will definitely be back . Joan

Having visited in the past with lovely food and service we booked to go again Sunday 21st Jan. We didn't know it had recently changed ownership but it explains our disappointment today. No carvery advertised so no price but I did query the cost. £14.95 for adults and £8.95 for a child. I understand its not all about the cost but in our opinion not worth the money. They said the cost is due to all food being freshly cooked but this wasn't the case I'm afraid. Food luke warm and very bland. £10 for a child's burger chips and beans is pretty steep in my opinion. There were others querying the price too. No special dishes which is fine but on the website it still shows these as a choice. They need to update this ASAP. Didn't offer dessert menu so I asked but no prices on these either. Not a great choice so didn't bother. This is only our opinion but wouldn't return.

Having read all reviews I have to say I agree with the majority of the comments good and not so good. We visited on a Sunday and had already been informed that only carvery was on offer. This is the first time we have visited since change of ownership and the difference was very apparent. Dry meat, Aunt Bessies Yorkshire puddings, basic veg choices which were all tasteless and luke warm (Pyrex dishes on a hot plate rather than a water bath counter). Definitely not value for money. They took their time to clear the tables and left it to us to ask for a dessert menu, which was a missed opportunity. There was hardly any customers when we arrived and when we left the restaurant was almost deserted. The place itself is dated, with shabby carpets and old faded furniture definitely in need of of some tlc. On a positive note the staff were very friendly and chatty around the bar but they didn't speak our party when seated or when we left to ask if we enjoyed our meal. This is a big expub with loads of potential but it needs smartening up and a better quality carvery. I notice no one has responded to any of the review so I guess they either do not read them or don't feel a response is necessary.

First impressions from parking the car lots of glasses outside. We waited at the bar no staff. There was one other couple waiting for food. The person cooking came out the kitchen and served us at the bar wearing dirty normal clothing. The coke was flat the other three drinks weren't good, one was only water and the price randomly was £10, didn't speak very good English. The pub hadn't been cleaned from the night before, dirty tables. More staff arrived 30mins later than our table was booked, we was asked if we would like to order. We politely said that we wasn't going to stay and eat first impressions haven't been good, they said OK. The English menu was very basic. We won't be returning.

Was looking for a meeting point halfway (ish) between Nottingham and Chesterfield and came up with this. Curry night… best Indian food we have ever had. All fresh. Amazing spices and an absolute taste sensation. And at a reasonable price. The service was brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble. We had a brilliant evening with friends and are planning to return on a regular basis. Definitely recommend.

As under new ownership we thought we'd try it out. Very friendly, excellent service, huge portions and the biggest, softest squid starter I've ever had. Will try their carvery later, signed up for a very reasonably priced Xmas lunch

As a regular under the former owners i was interested to see how things had changed. I was very impressed, the other reviews are spot on when they say the customer service is fantastic. The food was delicious although i do miss my mid week carvery. Overall i really enjoyed my visit and will definitely be back again soon.

Buen pub limpio, el asador estaba bien, pero no le gustó el hecho de que todas las carnes se cortaron con el mismo cuchillo y tenedor de trinchar, por lo que era posible la contaminación cruzada. Siempre he pensado que debería haber un cuchillo separado para cada carne. Mi compañero no come productos de cerdo, por lo que no podía tener el asador ya que el cuchillo se usaba para todas las carnes pero tenía el filete caro. Un poco picantes pero estaba bien preparado, aunque otros que tenían bistec tuvieron que enviarlos de vuelta, ya que los dos raros estaban bien hechos, no volverán a visitarlo.

Absolutely fantastic Christmas day meal here. Food was hot and delicious, the service was fantastic. Cant recommend this place highly enough. Mrs.Claus (sorry we didnt get your name) was super welcoming and friendly, and so were her family, which were also having a meal, whilst waiting for her to finish work. Thank you for making our Christmas day so lovely.

Puedes comer lo que quieras y luego servirte papas, verduras, etc. También haz una buena selección de postres. Personal amable y precios razonables para la comida. El café parecía un poco caro pero, sin embargo, bastante agradable. Definitivamente volveremos a visitar.

Una visita el viernes por la noche con amigos, elegimos el asador y pagamos en el bar para obtener un boleto. Las opciones eran muy variadas, con opciones de vegetación (ninguno de nosotros éramos vegetales) y se podía elegir tener más de una cosa, deliciosos pudines de Yorkshire, muchas opciones de verduras asadas o hervidas, además de puré de papa, etc.Muy buena comida, abundante y una gran elección, cuando visite de nuevo sin duda volveré.

Gran asador y buen precio.Siempre siendo superado un montón de opciones.Me encantan los platos extra de salchicha de zapatero etc. .Lo recomendaría por el precio ya que puedes subir tantas veces como quieras.Y sírvete a ti mismo los platos de carne extra una vez, pero te dan mucha primera vez.No había lugar para pudín pero se veían muy bien.Sólo lo malo bebe muy caro.Mi hijo tenía grosella negra y agua del grifo, que pensé que también estaría libre en estos díasMe cobraron 1. 60!Todas las cervezas alrededor de las 3. 50 una pinta.Se quedaría más tiempo y tendría que amarrar para beber si los precios fueran más razonables.También la única otra cosa que me subió a mi neves fueron las personas que piden mi plato.Cuando estaba esperando que la comida bajara por unos segundos.¡Me preguntaron 5 veces!Pero aparte de eso los hechos lo recomendarían para la comida, pero no para las bebidas.

brilliant food ,and staff we visited a few weeks ago was so impressed with the carvery we just had to return, just as good , we will be back, its worth the trip from chesterfield.

Went for a carvery on Sunday. The food looked lovely and tasted nice as well. Apart from the roast potatoes looked dodgy. A shame, they're my favourite. The dinner was only just warm. The plates and the dinner should be much hotter than this . A shame again as we live local.Drinks very expensive.

Yo y mis dos amigas llamamos a Dog and Quail el sábado por la noche el 9 de marzo para probar el carvary. Nos sorprendió la cantidad de opciones que se ofrecen. El carvary fue probablemente el mejor que hemos tenido durante muchos años, perfecto para nosotros y Tomamos un poco de placer. A pesar de que estábamos satisfechos, tuvimos que probar los postres, Guau, fueron excelentes y, sin duda, los mejores que hemos tenido y mucho más. Bien hecho a todos volveremos.

Después de escuchar a compañeros de trabajo hablando sobre este pub, pensé en probarlo con mi pareja y mi hija. Ojalá no me hubiera molestado. Las bebidas eran caras. Aunque el asador se veía y olía bien, decidimos ir por una parrillada mixta. Lo único bueno en mi plato eran las salchichas, ¡todo lo demás obviamente había estado viviendo en el desierto del Sahara durante varios años! ¿Por no hablar de la pila de sal en el gammon? ni una sola vez nos preguntaron si todo era de nuestro agrado. Muy decepcionado y no volveré.

La comida estaba fría, el pudín de Yorkshire empapado, sin sabor. Nadie preguntó si la comida estaba bien. Se quejó solo de que se le dijera a ningún gerente, le pidió hablar con el chef pero ella no lo iba a buscar. Negó cualquier conocimiento de la dirección de correo electrónico para quejarse. Los refrescos son muy caros. Quería comprobar el lugar para llevar a la familia para el tratamiento de cumpleaños, pero nunca más. La formación de servicio al cliente necesitaba mucho.

We saw this place as we passed heading to Shipley country park so thought we would visit on the way back. We parked up and went in and was greeted with a friendly welcome. The first impressions was great and the place was very warm and welcoming with background music and nice decor.

Tuvimos una comida familiar para 14 el 27 de diciembre. El personal no pudo habernos cuidado mejor. Eran amables, eficientes y considerados. Nada era demasiado problema. La comida era excelente, varios en nuestro grupo tenían el asado y estaban muy impresionados con la calidad y variedad que ofrecía.

Family visit today with 9 of us, good choice of meats, pies, casserole & stews to have with the carvery deck. Good portions too, could have as much of the different choices as you wanted! Veg was hot and a decent choice!

Haven't been here for some time, but pleased to return and find the carvery better than ever. Still the same sort of menu, but all choices excellent. We will definintely recommend this place and return for another excellent meal.

Visited the Dog & Quayle today for lunch not been befor,was greeted by a friendly lady at the bar. We had the scampi it was lovely and hot and the service was good. We will be back to try the carvery 7.95 Monday to Saturday & 9.95 on Sunday. They had a good vegetarian specials that’s good too.

Visitamos el Dog and Qual ayer por primera vez para el almuerzo del domingo. El asador fue increíble. Había una fantástica selección de asados, guisos, pasteles y muchas verduras. Todo se veía tan sabroso. El personal era muy amable y servicial también. Sin duda volveremos de nuevo ya que es el mejor lugar que he visitado en la zona por comida durante mucho tiempo.

He visto las críticas mixtas, pero decidí darle una oportunidad de todos modos.

Fuimos allí para una reunión familiar, el pub se ve muy agradable y era un lugar agradable para ir un poco tranquilo, pero había una razón para eso,

Delicious carvery in a nice cosy setting. They offer a great choice of pies and I highly recommend the peppered steak! Good prices for quality food.

I was in 2 minds about visiting this pub as I had read mixed reviews about it - I needn't have worried! We went for the Sunday carvery and the choice was excellent. As well as the different meats there were lots of other options such as casseroles, cobbler and vegetarian dishes. There was also a great choice of veg and potatoes. Previous reviews had said that the food wasn't warm enough, but ours was piping hot. The dessert selection was also great and included cornflake tart and apple crumble as well as cheesecake and ice cream. Definitely worth a visit.

We saw that The Dog And Quayle had had a revamp and decided to give it another try, we last visited over two years ago and said never again. We were pleasantly surprised, we had the carvery, the Beef was delicious, melted in our mouths, the choice of vegetables really good, the only disappointment was the food wasn't hot enough, I notice that others have commented on this, if the manager got this right it would be perfect and worth 5*, we will return and hopefully the food will be hotter, other than that it's the closest to home made that we have ever had.

Have visited this pub many times for a meal. They do a very good value for money carvery. There are plenty of parking spaces plus an outside smoking area. Staff are pleasant and helpful.

We went for our second visit to the Dog and Quayle. Again the quality of food was first class. The only let-down was that the veg was warm and not hot enough. This did take the edge of our enjoyment. Even so, we will be returning and hope that the management can improve how the food is kept hot. If not, we will be going else where :(

Good value for money,Carvery but with other choices,9 other dishes when I visited,had Peppered Steak which was really good. Will soon be refurbishing with Carpets and Wall paper but is ok how it is.The Proprietor Is Bulgarian and is very pleasant and has really turned this place around in the 2 years they have been here. Highly Recommend.

The Dog & Quayle provides very, very, good food - with an extremely varied choice, free to take up at any time during eating. But the entire establishment is dogged by food temperature problems. There are on the market many forms of "Hostess" heating : special cookware, hot water reservoirs, over-pot lighting, under-pot flame. None of these are entirely satisfactory - and no form of hot-plate heating can compensate for food not being absolutely piping hot when it gets to serving hatch/ serving table. Dog & Quayle now needs to get a specialist food-heating firm in- or arrange a staff visit to any Nottingham Carvery that HAS cracked this problem.

Called in with hubby after work (28th Dec) had the best carvery ever! Was served immediately & chose our food which I must say was cooked to perfection! Meat so tender/creamiest mash ever/veg just beautiful & a big luvly homemade Yorkshire pud with 2 drinks & change from £20....will deffo be calling again!! Compliments to the chef-just perfect

A lovely night out in a very comfortable restaurant. The food was very mouth watering and was very well cooked. My wife and I had the carvery which was ample and cooked to perfection. From the moment we sat down the waitress gave us her undivided attention being very friendly and making us feel like VIP's.

After living in near by Selston I have driven past this place numerous times and never look twice as the outside decoration is not appealing to enquiry further. However after repeatedly being let down by the hole in the wall I was keen to see...

We searched for somewhere to eat not far from the M1 as we were travelling from Leeds to Worcestershire with our granddaughter. We struck lucky with this simple pub.

I visit the pub about twice a week for lunch. The choice is far more varied than other self service pubs, and the food is of much better quality. What a lot of people don't realise is that in a lot of chain pubs all the food is frozen. Not so here. Everything is fresh each day, and I have never had a bad meal here.

went here with friends we eat out few times a week and this was one of the best evergood price lots to chose from love the fact you can have pie ,stew etc as well as all the meats . Will be going back soon

We visited today for lunch after visiting Jacksdale Garden Centre. The carvery is excellent value for money - especially if your hungry as it's different from other carveries in that you can choose as many main meal options as you like . There are also 2 Theakston real ales on draught and both were excellent. As it's also only 1/2 mile from Jct 27 on the M1 what better place to have a meal break if your on the M1 than to visit the Dog & Qualye.

Had our carers christmas party.the food was good and reasonably priced.staff were very helpfull.didnt have to wait to long in between courses.

Eight of us had lunch here today. A family member had booked it as they live in the area. After looking at the reviews on TA, wasn't sure how it would be. The pub is very dated, as mentioned by another reviewer. Sort of 1970's Ercol furniture in the back dining room where we were sat and generally quite old fashioned, in need of a refurb.It was fairly busy and we had to queue for the carvery. There were usual carvery meats plus some other dishes you could pay a return visit for (pork goulash, liver, sausages and a few others). The selection of vegetables were varied and plentiful. The problem I had was that everything was not hot, quite luke warm in fact. We all had the carvery and some people did say their lunches were acceptable, even though some of it was not hot enough.Not for me.

Having read mix reviews some poor some 5 star we went to find out 5 of us,3 had the Carvery 2 had Fish & Chips we all enjoyed the food . Visited here on several recommendations from friends & family after being regular eaters at Hole in the Wall, which is always hit & miss. Was amazed not only at the range of food on offer but also the taste! Additional to the traditional meat & veg you're also offered a selection of casserole-type dishes which are included in the car very price. I tried the BBQ gammon which was divine & not a bit spicy, just lovely. The array of different veg was refreshing after the basic fare of HitW. There was red cabbage, cauliflower cheese, new/roast/mashed potatoes, homemade Yorkshire puddings, and the usual stuff. There are two types of gravy (onion & plain), both of which are proper tasty. I just can't fault the food at all, and the surroundings/decor/furniture are pleasant too. The other place has definitely been knocked out of the water & I will be visiting The Dog & Quayle many times again I'm certain :)

My seventh or so visit. The food remains unmatched in choice at Lunchtime, generous portions, fresh, variety, mouthwatering...and the invitation to re-visit the servery. But 3 years later, heat of food should not be a problem. The Dog & Quayle should have had a staff meeting one Monday morning - with nobody standing up until all had pitched in ideas for how to start with steaming hot food, and keep it steaming. There is kitchenware on sale that could easily correct this deficit [ which other Reviewers have also mentioned]. Puddings : expensive, but delicious.

Went to the Dog and Quail for the first time last Sunday we did not book but were seated right away, first impressions dated, old fashioned needs a face lift, Carverys were £9-95 a bit steep i thought we went to the servery first thing we noticed the floor was very dirty our feet were sticking to the floor. There's a good selection of food from bloody beef if you like it like that, turkey and pork and sausages, liver and a few more dishes. I don't think we would return to this place i felt sorry for the few staff they had waiting to pay was an ordeal with only one lady serving drinks and taking money for food we didn't have a pudding they didn't look very appetizing all i can say is a lot of money for something you would probably pay £5 to £6 anywhere else.

A lot of my friends had told me to come by here on a Sunday for a carvery. And believe me, I have a huge love for carveries. They told me it gets busy on Sundays so I decided to book a table for 1 o'clock. Lets just say I wasn't disappointed. Not only have you got sliced cooked meats, there's also gorgeous cobblers, stews, hotpots and casseroles. By far one of the best carveries I've eaten. If I could pick one down fall: the veg was a bit hard but other than that I have no negatives.

Normally Carvery is 3 meats and a big selection of Veg but at the Dog & Quayle you have 3 roast meats plus 6-8 other dishes to go at for £6.95. Fabulous choice and value to say you can go back as many times as you want for veg so can forward load on the mains. I have never seen anybody eat as much as my colleague did using that concept!!On the downside some of the families can be at bit rowdy but on a Thursday teatime 7.30pm after the noisy family had disappeared in the first 10 minutes things were nice and peaceful to enjoy the meal

This was my 4th and last Christmas Day here. The place was virtually overtaken by one family who had most of the tables booked and had no respect for the fact that other people were there to enjoy their own Christmas. We were constantly interrupted and even had one person leaning on the back of an occupied chair for 20mins at our table. The staff were either oblivious or turned a blind eye to the intrusion caused to other customers. Needless to say we will be looking elsewhere next year. The service was fine as was the food but such a disappointing day.

We have not been to this pub for a few years, but it has had a change of management and seemed popular, by the amount of cars in the car park when we often past. So we decided to give it another try.Well, I do not like being negative but I am struggling to find something positive to say, We started by ordering drinks my wife asked to look at the wine menu, they did not have one, so we ordered at the bar, we were told which was our table and made our way. As it is at any carvery we expected to go to the counter in the usual manor only to be told we needed a ticket to be served I went back to the bar and enquired and was given a ticket for the three of us ( a bitt strange that these were not given before) I went to the counter and we were served.On arriving back at the table we found the food to be hardly warm, there was no staff around and as we had a busy day ploughed in, but we could only get through about half before giving up.A waiter appeared and asked if we had finish, we told that the food was nearly cold and was disappointed his reply was "oh" and walked off.I did notice he then checked the temperature of the food but did not come back and say everything was fine so therefore can only assume it wasn't.Overall the staff were not attentive by any stretch of the imagination and needless to say we will not be re-visiting this establishment again, very very disappointing

Not been here for over a year and won't be going again!! Place was almost empty which is not a good sign for a Saturday teatime (5pm). Went to get our carvery the food looked ok but the food was cold. Only the gravy was hot, even had to go back for more gravy to try to warm the food up! Meats were overcooked, probably been under the lights for too long. Couldn't cut the Beef up as it was so tough. Yorkshires were tough and dried out. Lumpy mashed potatoes. The main fault was the food was so cold!

We were recommended to try here by a friend and found it has an exceptional vegetarian range plus good general menu

Good food selection but once again food was luke warm. It should not be beyond the management to serve hot food to customers. It does seem to be a frequent complaint.However I Will op be prepared to give it another chance before striking it from the list.

Despite not booking ahead for Sunday lunch, we were seated quickly. We found the waitress friendly and helpful. The wood floor near the carvery was very sticky, one’s shoes making a squelching noise with every step. It seemed to need a thorough cleaning. The carvery vegetable selection was good but regretfully was not hot. My wife’s gammon was tough but, to be fair, they made good by bringing extra turkey for her. In my opinion, it would not need a great effort to improve customer experience. I hope that they can achieve that!

The Dog and Quayle is a very pleasant establishment. As well as a carvery ,food could also be ordered from the menu. The food was good, and all the dishes were hot and well presented. Staff were pleasant and friendly, and there was no rush to leave the premises when the meal had been eaten. All in all, very good value for money.

went to Dog & Quayle with a large party of 32 people, the food again was brilliant, we chose not to have the carvery and we had sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection, service very good they made us all most welcoming, and all really enjoyed the food.On the down side we was put in a back room, which was very poorly laid out it was dark and dismal and damp, there was plenty of room for us all in the main restaurant could understand why they did not put us in there. If you go with a large party ask for the main restaurant. The other downside was the price of drinks were scandalous, you expect to pay a little more for drinks but they were well OTT prices, i have mentioned before on a previous review and obviously the company that owns the place do not give a monkeys, and charge what they want. We will return to the D&Q but not pay those prices behind the bar.

On Friday 2nd. Sept. I took a party of fifteen to your pub for a carvery. Four of my guests had just arrived from Ireland on the 4.00p.m. flight hungry and tired. I purchased 12 adult carvery and 1 child carvery meals but had miscalculated by one. It wasn't until we were sitting having a drink that I realised I had not counted myself so as I got up to purchase another meal one of my guests who is 73 years of age asked if she could have a child's portion as she doesn't eat a lot. I asked the girl at the bar if I could purchase a child's meal and she said she would have to ask the guy behind the bar whom I took to be the manager. He said it couldn't be done as it was for children under the age of fourteen, I was flabbergasted after purchasing 13 meals he was going to deny me purchasing a child's meal for a pensioner. I was getting annoyed by this time. When he finally gave in he said he would go and he would put the food on the plate, again I told him if he did that he would be putting too much on her plate. He didn't trust me and was making it obvious to other customers. Reluctantly he gave the ticket and I told him that I would come back with the food on the plate and show him what my guest had chosen. On her plate was 2 slices of beef, she only asked for one, a teaspoon of peas, 2 tiny roast potatoes, small portion of carrots, 2 cauliflower florets and a Yorkshire pudding. She didn't eat all her meal and for that reason I will not be going to the Dog and Quale ever again. You lost my custom all because of a child's meal and one more thing my niece who is 13 was one of the guests and because she has a big appetite I got her an adult meal. The other childs meal was for my 7 year old granddaughter. Not good customer relations.

A party of 6 adults and 2 children and all had the carvery bar one who had fish and chips...the food was excellent...so many choices in the carvery side....well worth a visit and will definately go there again and sooner rather than later.Everyone left happy..no complaints at all.

We have visited this pub a few times on a Sunday for the Carvery which is very good with lots of choice as well as roast meats there is usually a stew, a pie, sausages and onions etc so something for everyoneeverything is presented well and cooked nicely, very good value for money

4 of us went and tried the Carvery and really enjoyed,pleasant surroundings.choice of menu,good beer. Will return

Had another excellent meal here again. I don't know how they do it for the money they charge. It's always great and you have such a choice AND you can have as many of the dishes as you like and go up as many times you want including the 3/4 meats they have on offer. Even if you live a few miles away, it is well worth going there even if it's just to try it. Don't just take my word try it out.

Good budget food . Let down by the fact it was on the cooler side of warm. Staff all very nice but cool food. It's a shame because it's such good value.

Made our Golden wedding party very special,the staff were extremely helpful polite and professional,providing us with a beautiful room ,and allowing us to decorate the tables,the meal was everything we could ask for, a wide choice of food to suit every palate,well produced and beautifully presented,the choice of sweets became a great hit,with a top class presentation,fine dining at its best,all finished with a good coffee.The whole party of 23 would like to say Thank You ,we will definitely recommend you, and look forward to our next visit.Wishing you all the very best,stay happy,keep your wonderful smiles.

Visited this place with friends, a bit unsure because of previous reviews, however we were delighted with our meal. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was delicious.

we were out looking for another carvery in the area but sat nav sent us here so thought we would give it a go, so glad we did, we visited around 1.30 ish food on carvery was really hot and tasty (other menu choices for those who don't fancy carvery), we only had tea to drink so can't comment on price of other drinks, but was surprised by the choice of food on offer, other carveries only offer meat or pie etc but not all at once, very nice staff and place is very clean. would recommend this place to anyone who likes nice food and a relaxed meal

It was our first visit here and we decided to try the carvery. We couldn't believe the amount of choice there was and everything we did try was delicious, Will definitely be calling again.

Where can you go for a meal which serves you Three different meats as well as 8 other dishes, which if you want, you could have a bit of them all and 8 veg dishes as well all for the price of just under £7. Also if you are that hungry go up as many times you like. The place is also lovely and clean. It also caters for parties.

I used to rave about this Restaurant. The idea is ideal : a Casserole Carvery, return visits to the servery, and brilliant puddings. But my last 3 visits, including this one, have been blighted by Lukewarm food [ not good for cooked meats ]. I cannot believe that, in Year 2016, no solution has been attempted, or found, to overcome tepid temperatures....esp. when other Reviewers have drawn attention to this deficit. Whatever happened to absolutely steaming ceramic stew-pots?

Have been passed this place many times but recently decided to try it. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Most people were having the carvery but we decided to go for the menu. Had battered Brie, looked fine but had a very fishy taste, think it must have been fried in the same fat as the fish. The fish and chips looked very nice but the fish had a strong fishy smell. The beef lasagne was not good. Lumpy minced beef no tomato in it and the pasta just broken pieces thrown in with some cheese on top. Could not eat all of it all. Very disappointed.

Thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful carvery with the family. Lovely decor, good food and excellent service.

Visited today for carvery, we have been several times and the food is always fresh and very tastey, great selection if you don't want 3 different meats, they also do homemade meat dishes.The only downside of the pub is the price of drinks are very expensive, 3 drinks around £13, which is OTT, we was talking to other people there and they said exactly the same thing prices of drinks far too expensive. We shall return there again but will not be buying any drinks. we hope management take heed and listen and act on other reviews.

Have been to this pub a few times now and have never been disappointed with a bad meal. The staff are very friendly, good ales too. But you just can't find a better price anywhere than here and you can eat has much as you like including the meat. They also have 8 other dishes that you can try.

Well priced evening menu and traditional English buffet with lots of choice of things to eat. Good atmosphere, much better than other buffet style restaurants in Nottinghamshire.

Too much food out, not kept hot. When the staff were advised they just said they would turn up the hot plate, too late for us. Won't return.
