We’ve heard wonderful things about the Dog and pickle, and now we finally found the time to come and visit. Booked for a Sunday roast, phoned up and booked for a later sitting along with our friends and our little pup (Nala) sat in the bar area, fantastic vibes and atmosphere, super friendly team serving around us, along with our friendly waiter Ollie, who was amazing, knowledgeable, and very helpful to our needs. Roast was absolutely fantastic, cauliflower cheese was to die for and the Yorkshire pudding was unreal. Along with the puddings we had and lovely wine, it was a treat after a good long autumnal Sunday stroll. Fantastic meal and we can’t wait to visit again. My new favourite pub back in my home county.

Overrated. Nice garden and decor inside the pub but the food is very average for the extortionate prices they charge. It cost £47 for two side plates (£14 each), one portion of chips (£6) and two drinks - pint of Guinness and an Old Moot Cider (£13); prices are on par with London. The food tasted okay but we got three measly little crab balls and some rather small, tough pieces of buttermilk chicken; you can get a lot better for less elsewhere. Whilst we were sat in the pub garden, we watched three couple enter, sit down in the garden to look at the menu and then leave. We overheard one couple specifically saying how expensive it was and they were going to head to another pub.

Had a Sunday roast here today. I had the beef and my wife had lamb. Both very tasty, Yorkshire puddings were massive and the side of cauliflower cheese was excellent. Desserts were custard cheesecake with poached rhubarb and rhubarb sorbet and a choux bun with coffee cream and hazelnut ganache served with custard. Excellent service from the waiting staff. Definitely worth a visit.

On our visit we chose the taster menu with accompanying wine and it was such a treat, the food was amazing and wine gorgeous. It was lovely from start to finish. A welcome hello and choice of table. It was my friends birthday and she received a glass of champagne and a card…how lovely. The sommelier Henry (not spelt correctly but the English version) was great, very knowledgable and passionate about the food and wine. In conversation we found out we didn’t live too far from him and he offered to give us a lift home after his shift even though it wasn’t quite on his way so had to detour. He just made our evening so special. We will 100% be back to the Dig and Pickle and fancy a roast :)

I had been wanting to try the Dog and pickle for a while, my daughter had booked it as my mother's day gift but had to wait till now for a table on a Sunday. We had a sharing roast, unfortunately it wasn't quite up to the standard nor the same as the pictures I've seen. The meat was lovely, soft and melt in the mouth. But the roast potatoes were a tremendous let down. Nothing like the pictures, more like aunt Bessie's straight from the freezer. Not crispy an browned or really fluffy on the inside. The yorkshire was stone cold but managed to warm it with gravy. But it was tasteless. The only thing that was as hot as I would expect is the cauliflower cheese , everything else was just warm. We were sat right opposite the bar so was very noisy when cocktails were being made, also had a member or 2 of staff standing right next to us virtually the whole time. I personally don't like to feel like I'm being watched the whole time I'm eating. Tables are extremly close together so also felt like we were sitting with the table next to us. We were fully aware of prices before going and were willing to pay the high prices for what we were expecting. Its just unfortunate that wasn't what we got. So for 1 coke 1 peroni a sharing roast with lamb added and a side of cauliflower cheese the total bill was £124. Which I feel was far to much. However the staff were all lovely and all very friendly.

We come here for a roast dinner after hearing about how amazing it was. We had this booked since March so you could imagine how excited we was to finally experience 'the best roast in Essex'. Unfortunately we were so disappointed by the main event! The roast potatoes were quite anemic and just about cooked, nothing like images I've seen online. The lamb was quite overdone to my taste but I understand they cant cater to everyone and the yorkshire pudding weren't the best either. We added on some extra and I must say the parsnips and cauliflower cheese are to die for, definitely recommend! We had dessert which again was very nice. Not sure if we caught them on a bad weekend or maybe ordered the wrong thing but was overall an underwhelming experience.

Usually there’s a few small things anyone can fault, but for this dining experience, everything was faultless. Food = best roast we’ve ever had. We loved the lamb and the beef (finally some nice thick slices of sirloin beef instead of wafer thin slices most places serve), incredible duck fat roast potatoes. Atmosphere = very cosy atmosphere, amazing decor, beautiful floral decorations and lights Staff = very friendly and polite staff, gave us everything we needed, always checked we were okay. The Sunday Roast was amazing, I couldn’t fault any of it. The meat was all perfect, veggies were great and the roast potatoes were actually hot and crispy on the outside. I haven’t been to anywhere in Essex for a roast that does better potatoes! It makes such a difference to a roast dinner. After booking the dog & pickle months ago, unfortunately we would not recommend. The food was really good, the service was okay, the brunette lady owner was abrupt and rude. After my dad having a restaurant for most of my life, the customer service was appalling, if you are from TOWIE however the service and attentiveness of the staff is the opposite. We happened to have Tommy and Georgia from TOWIE next to us with another couple from the same show. Some of their party arrived before us, had nibbles brought out upon their arrival. Although we had ordered our mains first and them significantly after us, their mains followed ours. They were allowed to order off a separate menu for desert and surprise their desert came before ours. The icing on the cake was after we paid our bill of close to £350, we were politely asked to move to another table in the bar area for the next sitting. Strangely the TOWIE table remained seated, the main waitress argued with my partner in the bar area and protested there was no preferential treatment. My partner went outside, the waitress then continued to argue her point with myself and friend, we were told there was no possible room upon their table for the table waiting, the area was a large booth capable of sitting 5/6 people. We were also then reproached to be told they will be leaving at 15:30. After this the potential owner continued to walk past us, side eyeing and giving us such dirty looks. I have never been made to feel so uncomfortable in a restaurant in my life. I was eager to leave after this. My partner ordered a whiskey after this ordeal, we were not given a bill and assumed this was on the house due to the situation. This was not the case, we left and were chased into the beer garden by said owner. Who again continued to protest nobody is treated any differently, my partner calmly and politely argued back and tried to explain why we felt so aggrieved by the treatment we had received and told us three times if we were that dissatisfied to never come back! The customer service from management was shocking, rather than have a bad review after the customers were clearly not impressed was that argument really needed? I told the lady how rude she was and made me feel like I wanted to leave and her customer service was appalling. She took her payment and walked back in and told us never to return if we didn’t like the treatment.

Booked in September for a special occasion (partners 40th) i was informed that a birthday card, free drink and complimentary dessert would be delivered on the day. We got there, very small standing room waiting for our table. The service was very slow, we waited nearly an hour between starter and main. My daughter’s burger was quite dry so she didn’t want to eat it, I had to remind them of the drink that was previously mentioned above. The dessert came with no birthday message! Very disappointed, very overpriced for what it was. Wouldn’t recommend.

Also our drinks landed on the table next door and we had their food put infront of us , so the 12.5% service charge was strong. We had 1 x roast chicken, 1 x roast pork , 1 x cauliflower cheese (£7!!!), one pint beer, and one glass of wine. It was all nice , just nice. It wasnt worth of the £91 bill at the end of the meal. Went on bonfire night. Pub was only for the restaurant. Everyone that turned up for the fireworks was let down badly by having to stay outside. There was one small bar and one small food counter with 2 people serving in each section. Creating massive queues that never got smaller only bigger with every arriving person. Also only had 1 toilet for men and 1 toilet for women. The fireworks lasted about 10 minutes which were OK if Everyone could see them as they were let off somewhere down the road with an house blocking some of the fireworks. The food was good, really tasty hot dogs and burgers but I think £13 a burger is steep. Would love to leave a comment about inside the pub as it did look nice inside but like I said if you turned up for the fireworks then you was not allowed in. On the whole I will not be going there ever again.

Some of the main dishes didn’t feel well balanced (the duck dish was pretty much just meat on the plate) the desert we had (truffle, honey and baron bigod waffle) was amazing, quite sweet but realllly good. Apparently no children under 12 are allowed in the restaurant on Fridays and Saturdays (we went on Saturday) and there was a family with a child right next to us which was slightly annoying …. Overall the experience was good but underwhelming and not great value for money for what it was.

It's worth a visit but i believe it is a tad bit overated. If you're from Essex then realistically how many nice restaurants are there? If you're a local then going here must feel like visiting a Michelin star gastropub (like the hand and flowers in Bray). Outstanding if you're a local. If you're well travelled then this place is similar to other pub fare. There are strict requirements on booking and unfortunately this is not reflected in the slow-ish service. Whilst the plates were hotter then the sun's core, the beef was luke warm and ok. But it's not all bad here are a few highlights 1.The Yorkshire pudding and the roast potatoes were delicious. Potatoes are probably the hardest thing to get right and Dog&Pickle excelled brilliantly 2.Cauliflower cheese was well received by my guests. 3.The servings were plentiful and didn't leave much room for desert. Upon seeing deserts being served I have no doubt they would be nice. All in all, if I am back in the UK again I would visit but maybe for afternoon beers and a light bite and not the roast. Thanks to the Dog&Pickle team, we appreciate your service. 👍

Outstanding food. Just stopped by for lunch en route during a trip and was astonished at quality of food and imagination that went into the dishes.

I've been coming here regularly for a while, and the food never fails to deliver. The burger and hotdogs are the standout dishes, and the steaks are amazing. They also do some great cocktails that are served in some unusual vessels!! The red phone box strawberry daiquiri is great 👌. This is not a normal pub so don't expect normal pub prices $$$ but worth it

Don't get me wrong, the food that I had was good. But the prices are laughable, and it doesn't help that the staff are constantly asking you if you want a drink every other minute. And the guy that looked me up and down like I was something on the bottom his shoe as I walked in didn't help either and was quite rude even though we had a booking and we wasn't just a walk-in.

In LOVE with the dog and pickle, or as we call it… the dickle!! 😍🤩 The atmosphere is so homely, the staff are always there to give you a warm welcome, even the customers! The cocktails, and the food are absolutely out of this world, every time! Hats off to the chefs, and Dave you’re incredible!! Thanks to all of the staff for always being so personable and for making every visit one to remember. This is our go to place… I highly recommend the sharing roast. I love that every month/week there’s a different special, and a change up in the menu including the cocktails. You will never get tired of coming here!! Really looking forward to trying their outdoor grill this summer, see you again soon 😍🔥

The food, drinks, service and atmosphere were all absolutely perfect. We celebrated our anniversary there and the staff couldn't do enough to make sure we had a great time even though the whole place was really busy, they were all very attentive. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection and the cocktails were gorgeous 😍

Nice decor and friendly service. The food was over seasoned with salt which was a shame otherwise would have been lovely.

We went overboard due to how many amazing options were on the menu. But in short, I’d recommend the bao buns, truffle burger and sticky toffee pudding - the last of which is one the nicest STP’s I’ve ever eaten at a gastro restaurant.

Absolutely loved our visit here. The sharing roast was delicious. The service was spot on, couldn't fault the guys that work there. It was a very busy Sunday, which I'm guessing is every Sunday! Having waited quite a few months to actually get a table, I can say it was definitely worth the wait, and we will definitely be back. Having a very picky and critical husband who couldn't find any faults at all (was a first for me!) The bar is now set high for everywhere else.

My family and i dined here for my husband's birthday, the food was amazing, the service was excellent and when we arrived there was a birthday card on the table from the establishment and was offered a drink on the house. It's those little extras that encourages me to give a 5* review. It was pricey but my gosh the food was well worth the cost we will definitely be returning customers

Best roast I’ve ever had. I really recommend coming here for their roast, it tasted phenomenal. It is very clear that the kitchen takes pride in their cooking and the quality of the ingredients used. Great portion size. Im not a fan of gravy but this gravy is an exception, so tasty! The vegan nut roast was lacking however. It was tiny! I loved the interiors and the staff were very friendly/ helpful. Hard to believe that it’s only been open since 2021, very professional. Will definitely be coming back, the al fresco menu is enticing!

We come here most weeks as its the best cafe around. Big portions, well cooked, lovely location, good service and a nice atmosphere. Reasonably priced too. Highly recommend.

Called here with a view to lunch to find it is now (end Aug) a smart looking Tandoori/Curry restaurant. We weren't looking for a curry lunch so did not stop.

Absolutely love this place. I have been lucky enough to go twice this month and each the time the staff and food were amazing. First time was with a group of around 15 and second time group of 8 and everyone really enjoyed their food and said they would go back. Family fun, fresh food.

We popped into 8 Rocks for breakfast after a Parkrun. We are pleased we did. The place was clean, staff clearing tables quickly after customers had left and were very friendly and attentive without being overbearing or making us feel rushed. The menu was expansive - we had eggs royale and a salt beef bagel - both of which were lovely. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
