A trek but worth it. Being the stoic couple that we are, we park the car up and leave it for the week to go on our walks. Having finished our walk we continued along where we were stopping and down a very long lane, absolutely worth it. The pubis stunning, cosy and the food well worth the walk. Would definitely recommend.

I hadn’t been for a few years but as my partner & I were looking at dog friendly pubs/restaurants, the dog & muffler came up and my experiences in the past had always been fab. When calling to book, we were advised the only slot they had was for 6.30 (this was fine) but upon arrival there was only one other table, so we were a bit confused by this but it was a nice cosy atmosphere anyway. The waitress who seated us and looked after us was lovely and couldn’t fault the staff on the night. The reason for the lower review is the food. I ordered the beef lasagne and my partner had the steak. My lasagne had no signs of beef or a tomato/ragu sauce - it was very dry and more just sheets of lasagne topped with cheese. The chips were ok but could have done with a few more, but the pot of salad was colourful and presented nicely. My partners steak was chewy and not enjoyable so he didn’t finish it. The menus say it is all cooked fresh to order so we had high expectations considering the prices of the meals, but unfortunately we were let down on this occasion. It is a shame as it doesn’t give credit to the staff who all seemed very friendly and hardworking.

This is a lovely pub with a large garden and plenty of indoor tables too. The lunch menu was varied and the food delicious. The pie of the day was lamb, apricot and rosemary, which was packed full of meat and vegetables surrounded by a tasty home made pastry. They are very dog friendly - we were offered a bowl of water as soon as we sat down. The service was friendly and prompt.

Walked in, asked if we wanted to be seated inside or outside we chose outside, ordered our food at the bar, waited 45 minutes for it to arrive, people that arrived after us were served before us which we found odd. Food arrived, my mum had beef lasagne i had bangers and mash, my mums lasagne contained no beef, one slice of pasta, all the rest was cheese sauce, took the lasagne back to the bar and complained, so the bar staff took it back to the kitchen, the kitchen staff insisted it was beef, we even asked the waitress where was the beef, she even said she couldn't see it, the table opposite us, had the beef lasagne as well and said it was all cheese sauce, no meat, my mum was offered another dish but she didn't fancy waiting another 45 minutes for something else, the so called beef lasagne she had tasted good but wasn't what she had ordered I had the bangers and mash, the sausages didnt taste like pork and the mash was lumpy and the gravy was like water. Previously we come here in the evening and have ordered the same dishes and they've been delicious so we are disappointed with the standard and service we received on this day We will be giving this place a wide birth for a while

Absolutely perfect. Food was delicious and top quality, huge compliments to the chef. Very dog friendly. Friendly staff. We visited on the last night of our holiday and it was by far the best meal we have had here. If we had discovered it on our first night I don’t think we would have eaten anywhere else. As well as the best food it was also the most reasonably priced, highly recommend.

Have been to the pub before for Sunday lunch pre-covid when we've visited my cousin and husband who live locally. We've never eaten an evening meal here before, but we will certainly return. Very friendly staff, delicious food and good sized portions. If there has to be a slight negative, but not for us, was we had quite a long wait for our food....for us this wasn't an issue as we only see our family annually so we had plenty of time to chat but maybe if it was just a couple the wait might be a bit long.

We had a lovely meal (sausage and mash, pie, curry and a panini - the portion of fries are huge) and the owner was very friendly. We heard him making some recommendations to another family on where to visit and took his advice and visited Monmouth which was lovely. If we’re in the area again we would definitely go back

Rang to book a table last minute, luckily they squeezed us in. It was Sunday lunch so roast. Really nice beef and turkey, good selection of vegetables. Staff were very attentive. Lovely and clean. Very busy for an out of the way place. My only criticism would be the roast potatoes. If you are going to roast a potato then get it crispy. Lovely outside area and looking forward to return in better weather with the family.

We have been a number of times before and the food, drinks and service have always been excellent; it was just as good today. Being Sunday it was a roast main course along with a good choice of starters. Today I chose the Devilled Whitebait, followed by roast lamb along with 6 types of vegetables, complimented with a pint of Butty Bach. The food was delicious, so was the beer. The staff were friendly and efficient and it was a very pleasant atmosphere.

Arrived at this lovely little gem after booking in advance. We walked from the Forest Holidays site and found The Dog &Muffler easily. The warm and cosy feeling is apparent as soon as you enter. Staff were very attentive and chatty and the food served was all amazing. Six of us went and the plates were all empty. The curry and pie of the day were both particularly tasty. We didn't mind waiting a while for the food as this is expected when home cooked and fresh. My only little niggle was that we booked early evening at 18.30 and my first choice option on the menu wasn't available. I would still visit again and recommend

First and foremost if you are a beer drinker this Inn has a selection of interesting ales. The food was fabulous, cooked to order, so if you are hungry then order the bread & olives . The portions are generous , we couldn’t squeeze in a desert which was a pity because the sweets menu was very tempting . We chose Salmon fillet with roast Tangerine which was divine , also the Liver & Bacon which was HUGE and delicious . Lovely friendly staff.

We visited the Dog and Muffler 3 times during a week's stay at a local campsite. We received a recommendation from the workers at the campsite. The manager (we didn't get his name) bent over backwards to accommodate our son's dietary requirements. Nothing was too much. We had an evening meal on our first night and it was all lovely. We returned with more family members (7 of us) for a Sunday lunch and it was fantastic. I had the lamb and I'd recommend it for anyone. Our third visit was just after the kitchen had closed but they still rustled up some of the starters for us. You won't wander past the Dog and Muffler, it takes a bit of finding but it's food, service, cleanliness and decor are a large step above an ordinary pub. Thank you Mike, Saara, Aneiran and Vader

A quirky and welcoming pub down a little country lane. Delicious, old-fashioned ‘pub grub’ (eg lasagne and chips) and friendly staff. We decided to book a last minute lunch as we were going to visit Symonds Yat rock. Not knowing the area well we went online to look for a place to eat whilst we were out, not too far away. I would highly recommend this pub ( free house) for Sunday lunch. 2 of us had pork, 1 lamb and 1 beef. It came out very hot and full of flavour. A great choice of vegetables and lovely service. We then all had a pudding. The crème brûlée was amazing !! Good value for food and drinks. Not overpriced 😊 a pint of Butty Bach ale was £3.95 and lunch was £11.95 main course and £5.95 dessert.

I have been to this pub on many occasions, as I live quite local. I've always found some of the staff slightly abrupt but I've always enjoyed the food and the olde world type pub feel. Myself and my partner booked a table for 6pm, we arrived at 5.40pm and were looking at a menu outside, when one of the bar staff arrived, we asked if they opened the pub dead on 6, to which she replied, yes 6. We found that to be quite rude. We went and sat in the car, saw another car pull up at 5.50, and they walked straight in, so we followed. We were seated by the same lady, no friendly conversation, but she wasn't rude. I ordered the gammon, my partner had the steak and ale pie. The pie had potato's and carrots in it and what seemed to be pieces of stewing steak, accompanied by bistro gravy with onions in. I had the gammon which was OK, a bit anaemic but it was cooked. The chips were like chip shop chips, and lots of little crispy bits rather than big chunky chips. Needless to say we paid very quickly after our meal and left. My partner wanted to complain but I asked him not to as I'm pregnant and didn't want any awkwardness. Such a shame as my partner had wanted to eat there for such a long time after moving here from Somerset. Very dissapointed, unsure if there is a new chef maybe, but not what I was expecting

Varied menu of dishes using fresh ingredients, definitely cooked from scratch. Generous portion sizes and very reasonable prices. I wanted to return with friends for dinner the following evening as it was soo good, but due to popularity I couldn’t get a table. Speaks for itself! Highly recommended.

Lovely pretty pub. Friendly staff. Great home cooked food, I had pie and chips delicious. My son is very fussy and asked for chicken goujons, he didn't like the home made chicken chunks in batter he got.

Covid-friendly, dog-friendly, people-friendly ... just friendly ...The Dog and Muffler is a wonderful rural pub. Go for a walk first, then head here. The food is lovely, spot on, and reasonably priced, The desserts are wicked, I had 3,and the service from the whole team is exceptional. We travel 20 miles so to eat here and think it's just unpretentiously wonderful.

This is one of our favorite places to go for a quiet drink and something to eat. Always welcoming, Lynne and her colleagues are friendly and attentive. This time we ordered their mid-week special "Steak and Apple". Sirloin steak with all the trimmings, followed by a goodly portion of homemade apple crumble. Tender steak, cooked perfectly (rare in my case) and the crumble was yummy. We will be back. Again and again!

Absolutely awful. The food is cheap and nasty, but not cheap! If you see what I mean. Just horrible. Avoid like the plague if you like food that isn’t frozen and fried.

Food below average, and service was absolutely abysmal! Was a regular until my last couple of visits, and will certainly not be spending any more of my money here!

What an absolute joke, waitress lying about being “shouted at” when left 2 items from our order and asked why. Made to wait 15 mins for these orders after other mains arrived. THEN waitress calls her dad and brother to come, block our cars on the car park and begin to try to intimidate and tell us off. (A family of 6 with 2 toddlers). Food average yet cheap. Most unprofessional buisness I’ve ever been too. Will be reporting further thanks to the confrontation from their family members called in afterwards . If your not a local I would recommend you go elsewhere

We went as a family (2 adults and 3 kids). We arrived towards the end of lunch service but all food was available. We had 2 ploughman's, 2 kids sausage and chips and a kids fish goujons and chips. The food came quickly and was really satisfying. The chips were really nice and the ploughman's was amazing. For dessert we had a butterscotch cheesecake a chocolate fudge cake and 3 ice creams. They all tasted delicious. The staff were really friendly and the waitress who served us was really nice and added to a fine dining experience. We felt safe throughout the meal and the pub is very nice inside with a lovely beer garden. Definitely glad we found this place.

Hadn't been to this pub for many years and when a return from a visit elsewhere took us near to it decided to give it a try. Not disappointed, the whole experience was good; lovely country pub atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff and great food. The Aylesham Chicken with Onion Ring Stack was a sight to behold and very tasty. The portions were also generous.

Found this lovely pub when staying at the nearby Forest Holidays. The staff were so welcoming from the moment we walked in and gave us a choice of where to sit, either next to the fire or around the corner next to one of the windows. The menu was good hearty pub grub with daily specials, portion sizes were generous and service was spot on. Only down side for us is we don't live local, just guess we'll have go back before the end of our stay!

We were welcomed so warmly after making a late booking for 7 on a Thursday night in half term! Absolutely fabulous service- friendly efficient and helpful. Food was great, service quick and pleasant interior. We didn’t have starters but enjoyed: fish and chips; steak burger; lasagna; and sausage and mash. Rounded up by: ice creams, chocolate fudge cake, and apple crumble. All tasty and good value.

We booked a table for two for Sunday lunch and it was a good job we did as the Dog & Muffler inn was full to the to the rafters, We had a good feeling as we drove up the little lane by the side of the pub the smell of roasts cooking made our mouths water. We were shown to our table by a lovely friendly member of staff and it turned out that all the staff were warm & welcoming. I had a pint of doom bar while we ordered our meals it was tasty & well looked after a very nice pint. We both ordered the roast beef and it was very well presented cooked well and tasted wonderful. This pub is a hidden gem well worth a visit but remember to book is its Sunday lunch your after.

My parents and I really enjoyed our Sunday roast. The roast beef was tender and they had a decent vegetarian option too. Really good value and the pub garden was sunny and warm.

Great tour of the mine. Very interesting and informative. The guide was really good at explaining and he is clearly very passionate about what he does.. You can visit the site for free and without booking, but if you want to go on the mine tour you need to book and pay online via the website. Just beware that the café closes much earlier than advertised and also that some of the information on the website is out of date, including the café menu.

Dont bother wasting your money.!! If you are not in a hurry, want to help yourself to condiments and ask for service, and get some dodgy food, go for it! Really disappointing and didn't even offer a refund!

Recommended by the local Dean's Wood campsite with a caveat of it being 'rustic', we enjoyed a very tasty excellent value for money meal and drinks. Our dogs were welcome, and the Land Lady was lovely. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating for all weather. With a small play area available for children. Watch out for the local sheep wandering the roads and verges!
