Great traditional pub in the heart of Soho

Excellent Soho pub. It was packed last night (7pm Wed), but good staff keep the booze flowing. It's great to stand outside soaking up the sights and sounds of wonderful Soho...

I must admit, it was first and foremost for the name that I came here. But this little pub satisfied me! Great selection of beers, helpful and kind staff. I didn't eat, but it's a Nicholson's pub with your usual menu (and beef pie!) The interior is very pretty too, a very good place to relax after a day of work or exploring the city!

Last wednesday 9.10 we were In London to visit The concert of David Gilmour in the Royal Albert Hall. At lunch time we were looking for a place to eat. Through my son we came to the Dog and Duck. Beautiful pub and Golden Sign outside. We asked to the very friendly lady if it was possible to eat. She said that upstairs this was. We asked a table for three. This was No problem. The lady upstairs was also very friendly. We had the beef pie and carbonara. It was delicious. Never ate something that delicious. When i told to the lady that we don't know pie in Belgium, she laught and said she could make a fortune with pies in Belgium. For very good food, Quick service and honest Price, you have to go to Dog and Duck. The place to be. Greetings from Belgium, Dirk, Maarten and Stephanie.

By incredible coincidence, just like on our holiday 11 years ago, we chose this pub for lunch. When we sought out the pub, we didn't realise it at first until we went upstairs to eat. The food was delicious the mashed potatoes soft and creamy and the sausage crispy finished with a soft sauce of caramelised onion. The staff was super friendly. I would definitely recommend this one for a nice cosy drink but surely something to eat too.

We just wanted some beer. It turns out we stayed longer and enjoyed everything this place has to offer. Atmosphere is charming and there is good history explained. Viktoria is so nice and made us feel welcomed. Her attitude really made us wanting to stay longer. Thank you for good times!

Great little pub, fantastic food and great service - Our waitress was named Bernie and she was the best, she answered all our questions and recommended the pies which were epic! She looked after us and we had a great time 😁

Popped in for an early evening drink in the bar and sat a a table. At 17:05 one of the bar staff placed a piece of paper on our table and walked off. It read "Reserved 17:30 3 people". So in effect we were being evicted from the table we were occupying without any explanation. The website says "Nicholson's pubs have always delivered a warm and inviting hospitality in each of our iconic, unique and historic locations". Not so at the Dog and Duck so we left to go somewhere more welcoming.

Great food and good beer, attentive service, gents toilets in the cellar could do with a refurb and the stairs to get to them were a bit tricky

A rare treat in London having a pub that's open after 11pm

Georgous pub with lots of history. Very busy when I visited on a Wednesday about 5:30pm. Didn't sample the food but you can't go wrong with Nicholson's.

The food was excellent and the service sublime.

This is the 3rd or 4th time back to this place. Great service, thanks to Bernie who works in the restaurant upstairs. She's friendly and very helpful. The restaurant is upstairs, it's not a big space so no chance of overcrowding or too much noise. I had the plant based burger which is served with salad and I had fries on the side. My friends had the chicken schnitzel and the buttermilk chicken burger which they loved. The food is top notch. I would definitely recommend going for a meal.

A lovely pub situated on Tottenham Court Road, able to sit outside, which is lovely especiallywhen the weather is good. The food was very nice too.

Incredible food, we still remember that burger. We ordered the cheese burger, a Guinness Keg and a Camden Brewery, all for £53. A place with a good atmosphere, we were on the top floor and although it is small it is comfortable. The treatment of the waitress was unbeatable.

This is hopping little Pub here in Soho. It's a great way to start your night with a good cider after dinner. Highly recommend!

I had a fantastic time at The Dog and Duck. welcoming atmosphere, charming decor, and excellent food. The Fish and chips is a must-try item . The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who made sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a classic pub experience.

Very generic Nicolsons pub. Tourist must love it but for me it has no atmosphere , went on a Saturday afternoon and the guys behind the bar just didn’t seem bothered.

Maria was outstanding throughout the booking process, her call to confirm, her call to warn us it will be busy and probably noisy(!), and a great welcome in person to the five of us plus our little dog ("Would she like some water? Some treats?")

I went for lunch for a steak and ale pie, was not disappointed. Really good, not stodgy like most. Very tasty! Good ale too, very fair price for central London. Service felt a little pushy at the end where the bill was put on my table before I’d finished my food. Apart from that service was friendly.

My friend and I visited The Dog and Duck today and had the most wonderful Sausage and Mash. I have had Sausage and Mash many times in other locations and this was by far the best ever. Highly recommend. The lady serving us was very efficient and got our food to us quickly as we were under a time pressure. Overall, an extremely good decision to go there.

We had lunch there before and we decided to return because we like the traditional English atmosphere and we had friends visiting from abroad who wanted to go to a traditional English pub. The staff are super friendly and the food is really good. Prices are reasonable within the acceptable for London.

Typical English Pub with unbeatable food. They serve you with kindness and the typical London food will not disappoint you. The eating area is on the top floor and from there you have nice views of the street.

The location is excellent, the food was excellent, the service was lovely, all so much so we were so surprised to get the upstairs dining to ourselves, probably between the lunch n dinner rushes. Cannot recommend highly enough and we'll definitely be back.

Great service, lovely dining area, like that it has its own bar so feels like part of the pub. Food was really tasty we had sharing plates. The beef loaded chips were delicious! We had a drink in the main bar area afterwards too

I visited on a Friday night and there were so many people it was difficult to order. Still, I recommend it if you like a crowded and hip atmosphere. It was nice that I could enjoy it while standing, and I often got a table seat. They say you can eat on the second floor, and the bathroom is clean.

We went to this pub that it's located in the centre of London, and it's a typical london pub. We asked for a table to eat something and we were attended by Mira, our waitress, that was very nice with us and that gave us useful suggestions about the food. We ate fish and chips and maccaroni and cheese. The food was delicious and the beers too. I recommend this place. Thank you Mira, it was a pleasure.

Our time at Dog and Duck was wonderful! The location is great, the service was stellar, and the food was amazing. Viktoria, our server, was so nice- she ensured we had a great experience. I recommend to any tourist looking for an amazing pub experience

Pies! The steak-ale and chicken-mushroom are the recommended. Very flakey crust and delicious gravy with that mashed potatoes. Yum. Guinness was spot on. Definitely make a reservation because the place is a tiny upstairs 7 tables. Victoria was lovely - gave my daughter a duck kids menu and she gave us a bunch of suggestions for places to go around town.

I've never felt so unwelcome in a place... Extremely rude female waiter in the restaurant upstairs, after being berated we chose to get up and leave before ordering.

A tiny pub that’s hugely popular after work. Most people stand outside round the pavement if the weather allows. Very few tables and space inside. Prices are typically high for central London. Atmosphere is lively enough. Music was playing indoors too. Decent enough for a drink or two if in the area.

We were extremely impressed by this English pup! Weekday lunch experience: First of all, it’s the best place to try traditional, authentic English food (we were tourists from the U.S.) We ordered the fish & chips and the shepherds pie and they were so delicious! The shepherds’s pie is a must-try dish, it’s incredibly flavourful and full of tenderly-cooked lamb shanks. I think this was my favorite. Second, the atmosphere is good. If you want to check out a traditional English bar where you will see aged staircases, old paintings and wood floorings, that’s the place. However, the place is very well maintained and extremely clean! We were there for lunch hour on a weekday; the restaurant wasn’t busy and we almost had the whole second floor to ourselves. While drinking beer, eating fish and chips and the pies and chatting with a local friend, we looked at the people on the street from the window, and understood why this place has inspired so many artists and poets in the past decades (and maybe centuries). Finally, the beloved staff Victoria is so nice and friendly, we felt her the hospitality! Last but not least (sorry I have too much to say), the bathroom is surprisingly clean and has concluded my trip to the restaurant.

Nice place, we had a nice table on the first floor overlooking the street. The vegetarian lentil pie is very good. The cider too. The waitress very friendly.

We went for dinner on a Saturday night. Very good food, prices a little higher than normal, people noisy. Good impression dirty toilets with vomit and pee, and no one to clean them decently

Just visiting London for a week and really glad we found this place. My husband and I enjoyed the fish and chips and the pie with mash. The quality of the pie and the fish was so pleasing, the first bite was met with a kind of joy that makes me close my eyes and tear up when I eat food this good. The atmosphere and the service was the perfect pub experience. A true highlight of our trip. We will definitely be back again.

Had a bunch of lovely pints and an excellent sampling of crisps and nuts. Left nice and sozzled.

An annual former colleagues ‘reunion’ from around England for a steak pie and a catch-up. Great grub, great beer and great personal service upstairs. We’ll be back next year.

You ever just pick a pub at random only to find out it was your favorite author's favorite pub? Serious note if you haven't read George Orwell's Down and put in Paris and London, you are in for a treat. As glorious as the pies here. Seriously these were amazing. Okay that's all. Go there

A lovely little pub , very cozy but unfortunately the rude member of staff who constantly was proving a complete jobs worth ruined our evening after a great marathon day . Not sure if she was the manager but she was just dreadful! Sorry to have to say .

I love this pub. A really unique soho gem. The staff are always friendly and professional. Viktoria is a real standout. Despite being relatively new to the industry, she's a total natural. She'll go very far in the industry if she wants to.....

An amazing soho pub. Standing outside or sitting inside, both are great choices. A pint of hazy ale and a double Hendricks with tonic was £20, not cheap but standard for the pubs in soho. Has a few other pubs and cool restaurants and bars on the doorstep too.

A small, cosy Nicholsons pub. They had 4 cask ales on (although 8 pumps, 4 out of action) and around a dozen options of my favourite tipple, whisky. I opted for a double Makers Mark which cost almost £10, about the going price in Soho. The pub certainly has character but limited seating means a lot of people were drinking outside. The service was fast and friendly.

Traditional English pub near Piccadilly Circus. We found it by chance and it was a GREAT find! Macaroni and cheese and their steak YUMMY! The best meal in London and what's more, at a great price! The waitress Bernie was very kind, nice and super friendly, smiling! VERY RECOMMENDED place, we will definitely be back on our next trip!

At first we were scared because there were a lot of people on the street and we thought it was full, but then we saw that they were people drinking beer and that the entrance to eat was a staircase to the second floor on the side. It is a typical English pub with exquisite London food. It is attended by a very kind woman willing to answer our questions. Our first experience in London was spectacular!!

Odd but interesting little pub, a step back to in decoration to a Victorian era. Adorned to a wall some details consuming Orwell whom enjoyed a drink here. Pleasant enough staff, reasonably busy but managed to grab a table late on a Friday which wasn't bad going. Few decent bars on tap and a good place for people watching. Will be back.

What a find! Quiet small room upstairs of the pub. We had a lovely view out a bay window. We ordered scotch eggs, chicken mushroom pie, and short rib and brisket pie. All was so tasty! Kind and efficient waiter. Would definitely eat here again.

Having only one day in London, I wanted a pub experience. This place was perfect! The food, beers, and atmosphere were excellent! My friend and I both got the fish and chips (cliche, I know), but it was so delightful. Couldn't have asked for anything better on a rainy London afternoon. Pop on by!

Had a meal here and they got the order wrong. Instead of remaking a new burger, like they said they would, they just scraped out the bits we didn't want and reserved the original burger, minus some of the ingredients we did want! Absolutely shocking! We have eaten before but we will never eat here again. There are hundreds of restaurants near here, try any of them instead of wasting your money here.

Very good Soho Nicholson's pub on the corner of Bateman Street and Frith Street. Five cask beers - and one cider - on handpump when I last visited. Lots of covered standing room outside. The Dog and Duck has been identified by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA}) as having a nationally important historic pub interior. It has some great advertising mirrors and lovely tile work. Very busy when we visited but quick service made it manageable.

Great pub to hangout. Family friendly till 7pm.

Very typical Soho Victorian pub, small, great decor, good service. Upstairs is the dining room which I didn't try but heard the barmaid say they were full that evening. Worth a pint if your thirsty in Soho.
