Chinatown Bakery in City of London, Westminster

After dinner we were walking around the area and stopped in to get egg tarts as a sweet treat. (2£ each). I decided to also try the small custard filled fish waffles (3£ for 4 small custard filled fish). We walked a bit more while we ate them. I only got about a block before I went back for another packet. They were warm and delicious. The custard was creamy and smooth and not too sweet. No notes.

Very delicious ice cream and cakes, but buns are a little bit dry.

The quality of the buns is exceptional. It is a phenomenal place to visit. The customer service is beyond my expectations, not good but great especially the guy at the checkout is amazing - definitely will visit again!

I ordered the little fish stuffed with custard. They didn't have much custard inside and it was somewhere between too sweet and too dry

The taiyaki was absolutely delicious! The ordering process was easy: paid at the checkout, then handed the receipt to the lady at the ice cream machine. The waffle was wonderfully crispy and a highlight in terms of taste, and the matcha ice cream itself was wonderfully creamy and intensely delicious. A perfect combination that I could really enjoy every day! The only point of criticism: the store itself is not particularly inviting. It is very narrow and often crowded, which detracts from the experience a bit.

Checkout quite quickly, there are people, not really time to discuss/ask for details. The taiyaki filled with red bean paste are very good. Those with cream (custard) too, we want to keep eating them! Prepared on site. Served hot.

Right in Chinatown. The small fish were very tasty and reasonably priced at £3. There was a lot of choice. Unfortunately the employee at the checkout was extremely unfriendly, they could change that if they wanted customers to come again.

During our stay in London we tried a big variety of their baked goods and there was not one we didn‘t like. We especially enjoyed the fluffy vanilla sponge cake and the red bean mochi brioche! The only thing that was annoying was the fact there were way too many people in their stores but other than that we would come back during any visit!

Impressive bakery with fab fish-shaped waffle (taiyaki) machine, you can watch them being made which is a treat in itself. Small ones are filled with custard and the larger ones can be filled with soft ice cream (vanilla and /or green tea flavour), Nutella or red bean paste - I was amazed how delicious those larger waffles tasted. This is one of two branches in Chinatown and they can get very busy, so go at a quiet time or it will get a bit much.

Delicious pastries, a lot of options to choose from, the serving is really quick. I recommend the taiyaki with red bean paste or the one with green tea icecream.

One of the custard taiyaki’s we were served was empty !! Annoyed by this mistake especially considering the price : 4 mini taiyaki for 2.5£

Love this bakery, everything is fresh! I have never tried any of the savoury pastries, they look good, but I rather go for the creamy bun, custard bun and the sponge cake, of course, sooooo soft and fluffy!

We had the fishies with pudding filling. Larger fish can be enjoyed with matcha ice cream. Unfortunately the window machine was broken, otherwise you can see the dough being poured into the mold and baked.

Delicious, divine and delectable buns. From sweet to savoury this bakery has it covered. The buns are light and fluffy with amazing fillings. Breakfast, lunch or dinner you’re safe getting your food from Chinatown bakery, if you haven’t been in what are you doing? We cannot forget the amazing prices, we’re blessed to have such high quality for such low prices. Couldn’t recommend more, especially the garlic bun and the custard bun.

Don't forget to get the receipt when you pay. The cashier has no idea what the price of the goods is...she overcounted by dozens of pennies!

The small custard filled fish shaped pancakey thing, went down a treat, 2.50 for like 4 or 5 pcs. Desent service. Very busy shop. Fish cone ice cream lookd delicious too but i didnt try unfortunately

The bakery still makes lovely baked goods, in particular the red bean buns. The pandan cake is moist but lacks flavour. it wasn’t always so busy but it is now chaotic inside though they do get quickly through the queue.

Daylight robbery. We actually feel as though we have been scammed. They charged us £34 for the cake in the picture below. We realised after we got home that it should have been £9 as it is a single lotus cake and not a box. It totally ruined our day. Would not recommend going here.

In Chinatown we find this bakery which is very aesthetically pleasing and full of fantastic packaged and freshly made products. We took a Nutella tayaki, mini cream tayaki, a fluffy cake and a cream bun, all delicious and at low prices. I highly recommend!

Right in the centre of Chinatown London. The Mrs dragged me all the way to this spot, and I was not disappointed. We got their Nutella fish cakes, custard fish cakes, and their matcha ice cream. If you want a small treat while going around Chinatown, this is the place.

The cakes might be good but keep the total in your head. My girlfriend got over charged by about £10. Highly unethical or genuine mistake? I'll let you decide!

Great bakery with a nice selection of baked goods. I’d recommend the fish and custard small cakes. Reasonable price and small treat. The best thing is the vanilla fluffy cake. Make sure to stock up on this one! The queues can be long during peak hours like the weekend

Not a bad bakery in the heart of Chinatown in London. Typical Cantonese/Taiwanese type offerings of buns, cakes and other pastries.

Although a small place and very crowded outside as it is at the entrance of Chinatown, the workers are really friendly with everyone and they serve some of the best taiyaki around. I’ve found myself going to them for the 4 mini taiyaki for £2.50 deal time and time again with my friends.

They have stuffed fish, which is a very good waffle type dough.

Very rude staff. Firstly, staff are not in any uniform, so it's impossible to know who works there. Secondly, nobody explained how to get ice cream and the cashier just pointed to the ice cream machine. I looked at it, figuring out how to use it, and a man standing next to me, started questing me. He never identified himself and gave attitude, in an American/Canadian accent. He asked me if I paid and I replied that I did. A woman then charged towards me, raising her voice at me in front of the whole shop and demanded to know if I paid and to show me the receipt. I tried to locate it. In the end, they repeated I have to let the staff serve the ice cream and I repeated that nobody informed me of this and I was just pointed towards the machine. To note, that the man serving the ice cream, was using his bare hands to touch the Taiyaki. I mentioned the matter to him and there were loud interactions about me between him and the woman in Mandarin. He then used a tissue to hold the I had a small child with me, who it was for. I was very upset for being treated like this and humiliated. Chinese Karen's with no people skills.

The ice cream was ok, but somehow very runny. Otherwise, pure chaos. The baked goods looked good though.

The taste of the bread and pastries is exactly the same as the bread that you could buy in the old pastry shops near the house when you were young. It is really nostalgic... Whether it is coconut milk, milk king or barbecued pork, the taste is very authentic. And the price is not expensive, it is really worth coming again. For milk tea, I only tried classic milk tea. It tasted like ordinary non-dairy milk tea, but the taste was pretty good. All in all, it is good that this store can provide such products at this location and the price is not high.

They would normally make fresh custard fish shape dessert (Taiyaki) but now they’re always whether warm or cold cause they pre make it and just leave it on the side for convince to sell to customers instead of making them fresh. They charge 4 for £2.50

The ice cream is very tasty and is served in this great fish waffle. A lot of people came here and you should definitely try the ice cream. At £3.60 it's not cheap but it's a good portion size. In addition to vanilla, there is also green tea or the two types mixed.

Incredibly rude staff. I asked which non-meat (vegetarian) bun they recommended and the lady pointed to the chicken & pork ones. So, I grabbed what I thought was a coconut topping one (as it was on that tray and they all look similar) & got to the front and they charged me for a red bean paste one instead- which i was confused and asked about. They told me the one I got was red bean & started yelling and making a big scene- so uncomfortable and rude so i paid for the bun I didn’t want. I had initially asked for their recommendation to avoid that to begin with…

Wonderful tasty Chinese pastries! For a quick snack, I recommend.

I visited this shop yesterday (22/02/2024) since it was recommended to me. When I arrived at the store it was very packed with people, hardly any room to move due to the lack of space! People were squeezing through each other which ended up knocking, pushing and shoving people at one point I was even pushed right up at the screen when I was paying for my Items. When I got to the till I ordered 2 nutella taiyaki, 1 redbean taiyaki and 2 lots of 4 making that 8 small custard taiyaki, the lady took my order and another grabbed my items in bags I had 4 bags. The price for the big taiyaki (nutella and redbean) was £4 then the small taiyaki was 4 for £2.50 which would make the total for my order be £17 but I was charged £18 and on top of that when I left the store I checked my order but was missing the redbean taiyaki!!! I wasn't given a receipt either. It is such a shame as the food is delicious but after the service I received from this store I won't be back!!! What is even more funny is that in the store it has signs about saying be aware of pickpockets yet you! Chinatown Bakery are the THIEF!!!! You charged me more and I didn't even get my purchase!!

It was a must see in London's Chinatown. The fish are filled with the dough itself, which remains liquid as it is not fully cooked. We liked them :)

There is a very rude lady working there, I think she is the manager of that branch, the branch itself is extremely crowded and do not expect any one to answer your inquiry about some sweets or even to talk to you, if you tried to talk to anyone they most probably answer you in a very weird rude way

We got lost here for Chinese New Year and spontaneously ate a delicious soft ice cream in the fish waffle. I recommend using matcha and vanilla mixed, as matcha alone is very tart.

We tried a couple of sweets and they were all delicious!

Large Taiyaki models with red bean or chocolate, ice creams with fish-shaped cones, mooncakes, brioches and cakes with pandan, sesame, green tea... The welcome, on the other hand, is unpleasant and pressing even when there is no doesn't have many customers.

This a lovely little bakery, very popular and very busy!! The taiyaki are delicious! But the thing that brings me back again and again are the pork buns! Staff are polite and friendly just a cramped shop so you feel you can’t browse for too long.

The green tea ice cream is really unique dessert. The fish shaped cone makes it exciting. Having said that it has bitterness of green tea preserved and it is not for everyone. There is a vanilla option too.

Lovely little bakery with amazing food! We first went there to get the small Taiyaki's (4 for £2.50) and they were SO worth the money. We even went back another day we were in town, because we loved them so much, and additionally took some other pastries. Definitely recommended. Do note it can get busy quick, as it's super small, but they handle things pretty quick so a long wait didn't happen.

The bakery items were so fresh and almost every item tasted amazing 😍 . The pandan cakes were incredibly fluffy and perfect. Everything was affordable and good prices for London. No wonder this place is often busy. The ice cream was great but very messy, needed lots of tissue for it.

This bakery is almost always very busy but it’s worth the wait. My only concern is the service as I’ve never met any staff smiling or saying a kind “hello”. Shame.

Quick service. Lovely fresh treats. Very good competitive prices which was enticing. I paid £4 for a mixed matcha and vanilla ice cream. Wasn’t keen on the matcha part but that’s down to personal preference. The vanilla is perfect. Will be back to try the cakes, they have so much on offer here!
