The Dock Café in Plymouth

Our first time sailing from Plymouth. We decided to to book a table at the Dock. Lovely welcome where we were advised that food would be served from 17.00. No problem we sat and enjoyed the view. Great food and superb service. We will be back.

Lovey location, good food, welcoming staff

Greta place to dine and great atmosphere The restaurant is on the first floor and overlooks the harbour and quay. Some quirky architecture makes this place fun and spacious, large glass windows give good views of the yachts docked in the harbour. Food was lovely, served quite quickly and of good portions. Had burgers, carbonara (with chicken) and Milanese chicken. All really tasty meals. Good selection of desserts too. Service was good and staff were attentive. Would recommend a visit and eat here. Has its own parking so no need to pay parking elsewhere. Though one part of the car park says 3 hours and the other says permit only. The one car park has both and you can stay for up to 3 hours for free when dining at the restaurant

I love this place! Sitting overlooking the marina you could literally be anywhere in the world! One of Plymouth's real hidden gems! And the food tastes as good as it looks! This place doesn't cut corners! It really is 5 stars! Shush! Don't tell anyone!

Nice place ,lovely outlook when sun is shining ,but light and airy ,good atmosphere and a great lunch ,6 people very happy with their food.Efficient and friendly service,nice one.

Stopped here for something to eat before catching ferry & meet up with old friends - cannot fault it in any way. Location perfect for ferry with lots of free parking. Restaurant on first floor but lift available - bright, very clean & well presented eating areas. Lovely attentive staff. We had fish & chips/Thai fish cakes - both meals excellent (fish cakes were superb) - excellent value for money & will be our stop off on every visit from now on. Our friends recommended this place & say the breakfasts ate also excellent. Thank you.

I have been a regular customer at The Dock in Plymouth for over five to ten years, but my most recent visit was nothing short of disappointing. I went there with my children for breakfast, but unfortunately, the experience was far from what I’ve come to expect. The Food: My daughter ordered pancakes with bacon, which were cooked well. However, as she was nearly finished, we discovered a long piece of hair embedded within the pancake. Given that she had already eaten most of it, we didn’t complain, but it was still an unpleasant discovery. We also ordered milkshakes (banana and peanut butter), which arrived warm, suggesting they forgot to add ice. Although they tasted okay, I had to request ice to cool them down. I ordered steak with eggs, even though steak wasn’t on the breakfast menu. They kindly accommodated my request, but when the steak arrived, it was extremely overcooked, tough, and nearly impossible to chew. I had asked for a well-done steak, but this was beyond well-done – it was crispy, dry, and rubbery. I couldn’t even cut through it properly, and it was a struggle to swallow the few bites I attempted. The Service: I informed the waitress about the issue with the steak. She quickly fetched the manager, who also happens to be the owner. Instead of handling the situation professionally, he became defensive and aggressive. He put his hand in my food using the steak knife and insisted I wasn’t using the “correct knife” while cutting the steak, even though the issue wasn’t about the knife – it was about how overcooked and inedible the steak was. I explained that I’m familiar with how a well-done steak should be and that this was not the standard. Despite my calm approach and my willingness to pay half the price since I had tried a few bites, he angrily agreed. However, he walked away without showing any empathy or professionalism. The bill was brought to me without any clarity on how much the steak originally cost, but it still seemed quite high, which I paid without fuss. As I left, I overheard the manager instructing the kitchen staff not to make any dishes not listed on the menu, making me feel as if I was an ungrateful customer, despite my polite approach. Overall Experience: The lack of professionalism from the manager, who watched us leave with hostility, was the most disappointing part of our visit. After being a loyal customer for years, I was treated with disrespect and left feeling unwelcome. I would have expected a more courteous response to a valid concern. It’s disheartening to say that I won’t be returning to The Dock after this experience. I hope they reconsider how they handle customer feedback in the future, as no one should be made to feel uncomfortable or unwelcome for raising a legitimate issue.

We waited an hour and 45 minutes after ordering food. We left with still no lunch. The worst service we have ever experienced.

It has very good views of the port, but that is not everything in a restaurant, there is no point in sitting waiting and no one serving you. The waiter for calling you in some way is not professional at all and very rude to customers. Very expensive and slow, they lose customers for days.

Myself and Husband have dined here for breakfast, lunches and dinners over the years with our latest visit for an impromptu dinner with our 2 furry children. Booked with short notice, the friendly team were able to accommodate us. As always, friendly and open-arms style greeting from the service team and manager. Service was impeccable throughout with great tasting food, well presented and a relaxing atmosphere to match. A 5-star review well deserved and a special thanks to the manager (believed to be with the ginger-ish beard) thank you for such a lovely experience tonight with yourself and your team attentiveness to not only us, but our beloved pooches. The food was certainly pricey, but we got the quality we paid for and then some. You can certainly see where the money's going. The food was delicious.

Had a lovely breakfast with family here. It is a nice light building with a great ambience. The staff are very nice and were happy to chat with us. The food is not cheap, but it reflects the quality and the location. My mum enjoyed some pancakes with treacle which was plentiful My sister enjoyed a full english, which had the two egg, two sausage, two bacon standard that you would hope for. I had the scambled egg on sour dough which at £8 was little steep, but I did enjoy it. Plus points added for serving their tea in pots with loose tea. (could have been a little stronger with more leaf added imo) I enjoyed the visit and I look forward to returning.

We went here for breakfast it’s a great ambiance because of the huge windows and the indoor and outdoor seating areas giving great views of the marina and the boats. The granola was great as was the berry smoothie the peanut butter smoothie not so much.

Crab linguini was superb. Lovely situation with views to the ferry port. Staff very helpful and friendly. Highly recommended

We headed to The Dock before going to the theatre, such a beautiful view and setting. The menu had something for everyone, I could have eaten anything! In fact I must go back to try other options but the pie of the day which I decided on was perfect! Greg was so lovely, we enjoyed chatting with him. The service was speedy, food delicious, great drinks choices including a selection of cocktails, views amazing and staff super friendly and helpful. I will definitely visit again!

Another Plymouth gem. Was lovely and quiet when we visited, food excellent, reasonably priced, with a good selection of local ales to try. Staff were attentive, and manged to strike that perfect balance between feeling like they're in your face, and have forgotten you which eludes so many establishments these days.

Staff are always so friendly and attentive, good food and a wonderful cup of coffee, I recommend a slice of their delicious cake.

Lovely place, amazing view free car park for customers. Delicious food.

The music was extremely loud and as it was busy too, it was difficult to have good conversation. Staff were friendly and we were served promptly. The food I had however was frankly awful. I had salmon with white/ wild rice and Greek salad. There was no sign of any wild rice, just a heap of plain white boring rice with a piece of salmon on the top. The salmon was well cooked but pretty tasteless. The ‘Greek’ salad consisted of cucumber, tomatoes and onions cut up in a small bowl with three olives and one piece of Feta cheese. There was no dressing in any of the dish so it was very dry to eat. I didn’t complain at the time as it was very busy and I didn’t want to make a fuss. I have had many nice meals here before but the last couple have been below par. It think it will be a while before I try it again. It’s a shame as the views are lovely but I think this place needs and upgrade.

Not what it used to be. Went for an evening meal with friends for whom it was their first time. Food ok, although my wife said her fishcakes tasted odd, but then the extreme noise from the bar staff sorting ice, constant harassment about the meal, asked if we could have a coffee at 8.50pm to be told the coffee machine had been turned off!!…then they started mopping!!…then the bill was put on the table and we were told if we could settle up as they wanted to do the till!! We asked what time they shut for the evening and was told when the last customers leave, clearly that’s at 9pm as we were pretty much corralled out of the place. Won’t be in a hurry to return.

We arrived late but the waitress was very polite and accommodating and fitted us in highly recommend.

Went for breakfast whilst visiting Plymouth. Service was excellent and it was in a nice spot with great views. Free parking. Only issue was it was very noisy which was strange. Smoothie and pancakes were excellent, French toast wasn't great at all. Overall nice place and might go again.

Had a very enjoyable evening at The Dock for a birthday celebration. Smart venue with fabulous views, friendly, helpful service. All the food served looked good and was tasty. Portions were too big if anything. Will happily return again, highly recommend.

Rather than waiting for the ferry in your car, take the time for refreshments, tea or even food at the dock. Georgia and Anna will welcome you with a smile and efficiency. View of the marina and the dishes seem inviting.

Can’t fault their dark hot chocolate hence why we came back for more. However, the service and atmosphere we received today were a big disappointment. I ordered a dark hot chocolate, upon receiving the drink I could taste a slight difference and proceeded to question the waitress about the drink I received. The waitress reassured me that it was the right drink and it wasn’t until I received the bill, it was then revealed it was indeed NOT a dark hot chocolate but a luxury hot chocolate. On top of this, the service overall just wasn’t great, we kept getting ‘harassed’ by waitresses in the restaurant, coming back and forth, to collect our plates and drinks when my friend had not even finished their breakfast! I’d understand if the cafe was packed with customers waiting to be seated but it was quiet and there were plenty of available tables. I used to love coming to this cafe but don’t think I will ever come back anymore given the services and the atmosphere they have now created.

Unfortunately, The Dock falls short of expectations, epitomizing snobbery without delivering the quality to justify its high prices. The staff were rude, and as walk-ins, we received subpar treatment. Despite arriving before others, we were served much later and informed that all tables were reserved. The menu was riddled with mistakes, including numerous typos and incorrect prices. Our drinks took an excessively long time—over 15 minutes—prompting us to ask twice before finally receiving a lackluster coffee. My partner's eggs were undercooked the staff didn't so much as apologise , and the extras I requested and was charged for were not included in my meal. I wholeheartedly agree with other reviews describing the staff as rude, it would seem they think themselves as something special. Overall, The Dock fails to provide good service or quality food, making it an unworthy dining experience.

Nice place but a simple English breakfast took an hour to arrive. They are too busy, they need to reduce the number of tables to ensure that customers have a good experience, cramming so many people into a small place and therefore not having reasonable service seems like greed to me

Great, well-portioned breakfast options that were delicious and well valued. My partner and I got the patisserie plate and eggs Benedict to share and loved both!

Nice venue and staff but the food is average at best - and this has been the case since it opened.

Food was good, service was excellent, her first day and she was spot on. Great views and a very nice place to eat. Food was OK, burger was dry and fell apart , large portions. Fish and chips was delicious according to friends. Usual pricy food when eating out but £27 for a mixed grill, not for me.

Went for my partners birthday as she had wanted to go for a while due to good reviews. While the food was excellent, the staff were really quite rude. There was no warm welcome, no engagement and very little politeness at all. Considering we spent close to £100, I expected a "hey, how's your food?" At the very least. That being said, the food was very good and while we waited for around 40 minutes for the food to be delivered, it was incredibly well flavoured and presented. Despite the food being good, we aren't in a rush to come back as by the end of the meal we felt like we were just getting in the way of the staff and that we weren't actually welcome there. I spoke to a few friends who have also been here and they expressed the same views, so it seems like this level of service is the standard.

We had a group dinner last night at the dock. It was a great event, the menu choice was good, food quality and service excellent. Good location and a very enjoyable atmosphere. Thank you.

The manager could have been more friendly to be honest. Granted it was quite busy but say thank you and make you feel welcome or even ask if everything's ok would have been nice..it's not like it's a cheap and cheerful place..might try again in the future

The food was great, and the staff was very attentive. We booked the seats in advance. The place was busy but very friendly. If you have animals, there is a balcony area that caters to them. The view is lovely. The parking is just before the ferry terminal.

Wow, what an amazing place! Beautiful views, a happy, friendly environment and very welcoming to our dog! They even gave her a little sausage which she loved, the staff are all very happy and lovely, which is so nice to see that they all enjoy their jobs. They have a good little team going. Went for a Sunday roast today. Amazing roast beef, brilliantly presented on the plate. The staff were really friendly and complimentary to my baby girl. I recommend visiting this lovely restaurant.

Only went to pick up daughter from breakfast, she said it was very nice.

Prawn cocktail lacked flavour. Sunday lunch OK, Yorkshire pudding flat. No condiments to accompany dinner like horseradish sauce etc. What I think was cauliflower cheese was very mushy. Meat was good.

We have been regularly coming here for several years and have always enjoyed the beautiful views and nice breakfast. However, shrinkflation is definitely at large here. Prices increase every time we come and portions become smaller and smaller. On our most recent visit I was particularly disappointed as the pancakes have changed and are now much smaller than before. I specifically asked the waiter when ordering to make sure that they aren't too dark, as I've received burnt pancakes on several occasions before. He obviously didn't, as one of my pancakes was burnt again. I told the waitress when she asked about our food and she said she would let them know, but we received zero compensation despite me not being able to eat half of one of the pancakes. Very disappointing. This was our last visit.

Everything was perfect! We didn’t have a reservation on a very busy Sunday morning, but they accommodated us. The staff were attentive and polite, the food was delicious and portions are really big! Thank you!

Went for lunch yesterday with my daughters Food was shocking. Only one out of five was okay. 2 meals sent back other 3 was only picked at ! service was shocking No apologies restaurant was Baltic would not recommend would not return shocking

Good all rounder for breakfast. I'm a coffee snob and that's even pretty good too. Also we can take pup and they put you in a dog owners area. Service is good, food is good and price is par with every other breakfast place. It's definitely one of our "go to's".

Had an excellent lunch here with our granddaughter. Everything was delicious and the staff attentive without being intrusive. Only niggle, I have a small appetite and the portions were enormous. We asked if smaller portions or children’s portions could be supplied but were told no. Shame because we saw a few plates going back with food left - nothing to do with the quality just huge. Having said that we loved the restaurant!

I highly recommend Dock Cafe! The location is great and the atmosphere is great! The coffee is really delicious, and the sweets are also exquisite. The workers are very friendly, and the atmosphere is relaxing no matter when you go. Wi-Fi is also fast, so it's perfect for working. It's the perfect cafe when you want to relax with friends!

Excellent food with great choice of meals. Staff very friendly and helpful. Parking is two minute walk away and you register when you get into the restaurant.

I took friends here because I've always enjoyed previous visits, the food was good as usual but unfortunately only luke warm. We were also sat in a booth outside the kitchen so it was quite noisy but my fault for not booking in advance.

Once again had a beautiful meal on New Year's eve .We use this restaurant regularly as the food is always top class and the staff are excellent. In this day and age it is extremely good value.

We were in the area for Christmas and it was close to our hotel. We tried boxing day but it was closed then we tried next day which was our last day. It was packed and the team who was greeting was so friendly and efficient. Menu has great selection and prices are very reasonable. Our cappuccinos were tasty & frothy as it is hard to find descent cappuccinos. Food arrived all tasty. Only disappointment was the service by the lady who was in charge of the balcony area. I felt bad to not to tip in the end but it was really bad service. I tried to catch her to ask for a slice of lemon but after a while i gave up as she was too busy with setting up new tables I had no chance for an eye contact even when she was taking our orders no eye contact not a smile.The view and our table was lovely.

We had booked our table for 09.30am for 5 however one of our party couldn't come, we arrived at 09.26am and the rest of our party arrived at 09.34am, just prior to this, I presume the owner, came over saying we were 20 mins late, which was incorrect. The way he approached us was very aggressive and he told us in a way to embarras, in fact the table next to us commented that that was out of order. The service and food was, as always, excellent as we are regulars and have been for many years, he name us feel very uncomfortable and put a damper on a family meal

2 of the three waitress were nice and friendly the other not so much ! Food was nice Nearly impossible to get a semi strong cup of tea from tea pot - may use a good old tea bag instead for trying to be all fancy with the loose tea pots. Parking was not the easiest but that's just luck of the draw I suppose - if you can park it is free which is a bonus

Had Christmas lunch with work, staff were amazing, food was lovely, generous portions. Our only gripe was having to wait 30 minutes for us all to be seated BUT it is a very busy time of the year

Very nice food at reasonable prices. It's usually pretty quiet, but even so the atmosphere was good.

A very good 'watering hole' for the occasions when we see friends off to the Continent. Can not recommend it highly enough.

This restaurant when asked could cater for my daughter and I who are coeliac. When we got the menus gluten free options were shown with a star. There were few stars, when asking the manager he said just the menu ask me ignore the stars ?? I asked for the starred sweet potato fries with a salad, no can’t have them! To say they cater for gluten free diners is misleading and disappointing. We deserve better give us a menu with clear options.

Delicious food and coffee, had breakfast, and was not disappointed. Seemed to be a hot spot for yummy mummies and rich kids but it's by the big boats so to be expected. Lovely staff.

Excellent restaurant right by ferry terminal. Parking available for up to 3 hours. Service good, food was excellent. Dark so could not see but would think a very good view. Price acceptable.

Went to visit cafe, had a last minute change of plans, received a £100 parking ticket in the post days later for staying in their car park for a total of 5 minutes!

Waiting for the ferry so booked to have a meal. We both had the Thai fishcakes with Greek salad and fries, absolutely delicious.

Used to be a top place for breakfasts but has gone down hill in my opinion. Food not the best for the price, coffees cold and they are far too busy for the staff. Need to find their way back to how they were instead of cramming guests in, particularly for the prices they charge. Disappointed the last couple of visits so won't be back in a while.

Absolutely love this family owned/ run restaurant. I have been for every meal, breakfast to dinner. It’s never been bad. And very dog friendly. And the staff are beyond amazing x

Good food, good service and excellent views.

Had a nice lazy Sunday lunch there surrounded by the perfect cosy vibes with families and friends gathering all around you and a very helpful staff ✨indulging in my plates while taking in the beautiful view of the sea and the harbour. I loved the food there and the special unique touches they add to it including the squid starter and the Chicken caesar salad but the salad’s dressing was a bit too much for me.

The place was ok. The man who took us to our table could have done with having a bit more manners he made us feel very unwelcome. Food was good serving lady's where very friendly and nice. Just a shame about the man

Under cooked Sunday roast. Lots on the plate. One of the male staff called me love 😲 I'm a 54yr male biker. Seriously over £50 1 wine 1 coffee & 2 inedible Sunday roast.
