Authentic Tandoori, superb service and great food. A truly fantastic Indian restaurant which happens to be the longest running restaurant in Ipswich; consistently good and never disappoints. Update 2022: still great! Absolutely fantastic! Update 2024.... Still perfect!

Opening hours are the foundation of the customer relationship. Dhaka, which is the location of my father in law’s birth, fails at that hurdle.

Excellent food and service. Can be pricey but there are special offers you can take advantage of if you check, like ordering food before 7pm in the week, a lot are cut price. Food is tasty and nothing is too much for the team of you ask.

Really tasty Indian food in a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. Appreciate so much not having loud music so conversations can be heard. The staff here are lovely, attentive and hardworking. Reasonable value too. A good, comprehensive menu.

I'd rather eat a dirty flip flop because that's what I was served. It's was a lamb specialty dish and it's was grim, cold and had no spice or flavor. Been before and hadn't been for a while and was looking forward to a food Indian meal so disappointed do they think medium hot is code for bland and no heat as it tasted of nothing won't go again.

We were in Ipswich to go to a gig and fancied an Indian beforehand. Dhaka was nearby and we dropped in quite early evening. There were a lot of reserved tables (always a good sign), but they managed to fit us in. Really good food and pleasant, efficient and friendly service. Catching their pre7pm happy hour prices was an added bonus. We’ll definitely be back when we’re next in Ipswich and fancy an Indian.

Wd were recommended to this restaurant for their takeaway. We ordered at 17.30 when they opened, the food arrived at 18.10 and all I can say is the starters and main courses were either heated up from the day before or the kitchen was unable to provide fresh tasty food within 40 minutes of opening. I have never posted a review on food I have purchased, but spending over £80.00 for 3 adults and the food not being what we anticipated in flavour, we will never use this restaurant again.

We love it here. We get overcharged each ocassion. We know they are doing it. They know too. We’d like to keep this as our go-to Indian restaurant but it’s getting on our nerves now. Perhaps you can start itemising your bills again? We hate confrontation. It’s a bit mean to reoccurring customers.

Updated 13/08/23.. 2 years have past since I last used this place as the food was no longer prepared to the good standard it used to be. I have had a takeaway from here this evening to give these guys another chance and the chicken tikka madras I had was watered down and incredibly runny... not what you would expect in a usual madras sauce my partner had the vegetable jalfrezi which was also watery and not up to scratch £50 was very expensive for this rubbish...

Just had a takeaway from here on 13/08/23 after avoiding it for 2 years due to having bad experiences here previously....So we thought these guys deserved a second chance and unfortunately my chicken tikka madras was incredibly runny and watered down nowhere near spicy enough to justify being called a madras, my parners vegetable jalfrezi was also not very spicy and also watery ..its a shame because this establishment was once very good... I'm disappointed that I spent over £50 on this rushed out rubbish tonight.. 😒

Lovely food and service! Had a group of 15 and they catered!

Ate here for the first time tonight. Absolutely fabulous. Friendly, efficient and excellent service. Food was piping hot and totally delicious, clearly freshly made with good produce. My Lamb Shashlick was perfectly cooked and a very generous portion. Lovely hot plates. All the little touches that make for a really good meal. We were a party of about 18 and every meal was as good as the first. The restaurant is spacious but still manages to make you feel like you are in cosy space. The menu is varied with plenty of choice and options. And the prices are very reasonanle, especially given the quality of the food and the service. I will definately eat here again.

This was absolutely amazing! The staff were amazing and friendly, there was no rush in-between courses, the food was so flavourful and filling and cannot fault it.

For the first time in a long while, myself and my wife fancied ordering in an Indian meal. After considering two or three places we decided on The Dhakar, and boy, are we glad we did!! We didn't go too outlandish, onion bhajies for starters, a korma for her & a madras for me with pilau rice and naans for sides. Delivered 25 minutes earlier than expected (early evening so not too much of a surprise there) but an excuse to tuck in earlier than anticipated. The only thing we have to moan about is why we didn't use The Dhakar before. Great food, and quick delivery too 10/10 for sure

Disappointed with the food and wouldn't eat here again...

I've been to the Dhaka quite a few times now and it never fails to deliver. Great service and amazing food. Best Indian restaurant in Ipswich, Suffolk and England in my opinion!

As always we arrived to an excellent reception from Foez and his staff. Prompt, polite, quality professional service given by all the staff. Our meals were of the utmost top quality we have come to expect from the Dhaka. Its been a while since we had a take out and thought we would give the Dhaka a try what can I say it was delicious we had chicken tika masala , vegetable rice , sagalo bombay potatoe , chicken korma and popadoms Excellent food highly recommended.

Unfortunately I didn't make it the the food part, that may have been good. Unwelcoming atmosphere provided by persistent waiter who didn't allow to peacefully go through menu. I've ordered a "cranberry juice (pure)" but what I had wasn't a juice and it's purity was questionable too. Cheapest cranberry drink from the supermarket that contain probably like 10% of juice. £4 for a glass. Waiter could not understand what the point was, and what's the difference between "juice (pure)" as menu says, with cranberry drink, which I wouldn't order if it would be in the menu as a drink. Uncomfortable situation, as 3 waiters have gathered by my table while discussing the situation.

Wildly overpriced curry, frozen naan and vegetables. Rude staff and shocking delivery service.

Great place for a late night curry!

Entering restaurant: We booked this table very last minute via their website. When we arrived we were immediately greeted and shown to our table. The waiter took my boyfriends jacket and hung it up. I was fine to leave mine on the chair. The dining area was warm and friendly and the decor was clean, traditional and welcoming. We were there at half 6 and it wasn’t overly busy but had a great atmosphere. Drinks and Poppadoms: We ordered two cobra beers on draft and a jug of tap water with ice. They asked if we wanted poppadoms and dip to which we obviously said yes! The drinks arrived fairly quickly along with the poppadoms and the waiter poured the water in the glasses for us. The poppadoms were fresh and crunchy, not oily at all and the dips were yummy! Food: I decided to order Chicken Shaslick masala which was mild and my boyfriend ordered Gosht ranga lamb jalfrezi. The menu is helpful as it says what kind of spice it is so you don’t blow your head off! We also had two onion bhajis, one peshwari naan and a pilau rice to share between us. That was a perfect amount for us, but some people may want a rice each. The food was absolutely incredible! The chicken and lamb were super tender and that was the best peshwari naan I’ve ever tasted! The sauce for both dishes were very tasty and not too rich or sickly. Finishing touches: When we paid the bill, which was very reasonably priced, another waiter fetched my boyfriends jacket and even held the door open for us to leave the restaurant. It was the finishing touches for us that made it a wonderful experience.

Good quality Indian, great service

ordered a takeaway from this restaurant that I have been using for some 17 years. I had to call and complain that the starters were cold, and the Chicken Tikka was hard and not hot. I was told that the food was prepared fresh for me, and if I didnt like the food there were other restaurants I could use. The restaurant was virtually empty, so a strange response. But I will take up the owners suggestion, and stay well away

The food here is amazing and the staff are very friendly. The service timei s very reasonable even during peak hours.

Ok normally this is a 5 as the food is always great, however Fri 3rd Feb was not great at all, tbh should of said something but didn't, the Madras was at best woeful, just a brown liquid with no flavour and cut up chicken, nothing else in it whatsoever, really really bad, rest was good but not of standard use too from here, back next Fri 10th, hopefully things will be much better then, shall order the madras again and if the same rubbish, will be complaing this time, hopefully can give 5 stars next time.

What we had to eat was really tasty and good sized portions. Service was efficient and professional. The establishment was very busy on a Saturday evening but that probably reflects it's justified popularity.

Really disappointed, was so looking forward to our takeaway as heard great things about this place, delivery took a long time (which is know isn’t the restaurants fault) but when it arrived it was cold and tasteless, the korma was very dry, the naan was the tastiest naan I’ve had though.

Great place to get North Indian food. Went on Sunday early evening and got seats pretty quickly. Service was good and food was delicious, value for money.

My colleagues treated me to a birthday dinner st the Dhaka. It was absolute amazing. The food was beautifully cooked and very tasty, lovely flavour too. The staff were cleanly dressed and very friendly and went out of their way to please. I will certainly go there again. 👍

Went to The Dhaka last night with a few friends and had a great night. Food was lovely & hot & the servers were great coming over to see if everything was OK. Love it here.

We had a meal here before going to the theatre and all I can say is WOW! All the staff were excellent as was the cleanliness and the atmosphere inside. As for the food, absolutely brilliant. Probably the best Indian meal we have ever had and we will certainly go back when we're in Ipswich again. *****

Possibly the worst curry I have had my life. Dry and tasteless... Nice staff though, but they need to have a word with the chef.

Really pleased to find this restaurant. Lovely food, friendly staff, fast service and their happy hour menu was excellent value! Offered a complimentary Baileys or port to finish the meal and chocolate mint was a lovely touch. Will definitely visit again!

First time here. The food was generally good, but it's pricey for what it is. My biggest gripe was being charged an extra £1.50 for 'containers' when I asked to take the leftovers (in 1 small plastic container) away with me. Scandalous. For that reason alone I'll never return out of principle. Plenty of other Indian restaurants in Ipswich that are cheaper for the same quality and won't rip people off.

I met a friend at the Dhaka for evening meal . The service was good, and the menu extensive. The vegetarian dishes I choose from the menu , which did have clear helpful labels for veggie choices) unfortunately all tasted and looked much the same. This was a bit disappointing as Indian/ Bangladeshi food normally offers very good choices for vegetarians.

Delicious food and friendly staff 10/10

First time visiting since lockdown it's still excellent the staff are friendly giving great table service and the food is brilliant warm,fresh & full of flavour. I consider the Dhaka Restaurant Indian & Bangladeshi Cuisine to be one of the best place's to visit for a meal/night out. Every time we have been over the years they have never disappointed that's why we keep going back!!

We popped in without a reservation.. seated straight away for four people, drinks arrived quickly. We had help with the menu, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We ordered a fair amount of food and it arrived within a reasonable manner.. better to have a pint or two with a catch up.. before food arrives. It was very busy as well.. as all tables we saw was enjoying themselves. Lamb biryani was good.. sides not bad either. We all enjoyed the environment and hospitality.

Sorry to say the worst Indian I’ve ever had always enjoy a chicken pathia as a sweet and. Sour dish unfortunately their take on it was bland and not a tomato or onion in sight To add insult to injury when I mentioned this I was met with a waiter arguing with me

Such a varied menu with some great veggie/vegan options. Food is lovely.

Prawn korma was dry, pilau rice was plain rice! And main courses were tasteless, after over an hours wait for the food! Needless to say we won't be visiting there for a while!

This was my second time having food from this establishment but the first time eating in... I was with a colleague we were shown to a table with nice presentation... until I started looking round to see mould on a painting and grime and dirt over the floor and wall... I ordered a curry and rice with 3 popperdoms and onion bahjij... to my surprise they messed that up... with 2 popperdoms and the bahji were soggy and stodgy... not impressed with this.. then went to the rest room to find holes in the doors and grime up the walls... left disappointed and will not be returning.... I will admit the curry on its own was one of the best I have had just wish the rest of the experience was better...

Occasional diner at the Dhaka. Takeaway this time, since restaurant closed for COVID. Sound performance of the usual British Indian dishes. No real weak points. If you like curry you’ll be happy with this. Four stars not five because they never stray far from the usual English curry house fare. Pity really, since the chefs seem capable enough for more varied cooking.

Me and my husband had a takeaway tonight I have to say it was lovely . We had Chicken korma, Bhaji, Bombay potatoes and Naan bread . The only thing is the curry wasn’t to warm but a couple of minutes in the microwave sorted that out and to be fare it was delivered to us . Will definitely order again .
