Great choice of unique currys, the rice is always perfect and they do some of the nicest peshwari naans filled with coconut. We've always experienced happy service and correct orders.

We had our first meal this evening and we were really pleased with our food, it arrived hot and was super yummy. Amazing value for money, we will be returning.

I'm a regular user. Excellent food for takeaway, but also for sitting in and bringing your own alcoholic drinks if you want. The service in house is excellent and the delivery service likewise. Honestly the food is very tasty and well spiced. My favourite is the Jhalfrezi with pilau rice and a plain naan. The lamb tikka is the most succulent I've ever had.

ordered takeaway for set price for 2 people 2 mains etc,turned up with only 1 rice dish,should have been 2,the patronising manner from the host when i called him up to query was shocking customer service,basically said it was my fault for not being a regular and knowing that biryani does not include extra rice, i asked him why he didnt tell me,as i could have ordered a different dish, he said he was busy, no apology or explanation when i ordered, accused me of wanting an argument..dear oh dear...really...as it happens i do use the restaurant but not any more, stingy portions,about 2 and a half potatoes in sag aloo, balti full of sauce ,cold, place has gone downhill! menu has gone in the bin.Avoid!

Food was appalling bombay potatoes dry curry 5 tiny pieces of chicken watery sauce no onions vegetables nothing really plain

Sonar Bangladeshi has always been a great curry house in the town, but last night we picked up a collection order for two and both of us believe it was the best curry we have ever had. Chicken Tikka Balti Jalfrezi and a Chicken Tikka Saali 👌 Thanks guys

Great food & beer and good service.

Went to Ipswich to watch football and go theatre. Was looking for the Biryani Hut but could not find and stumbled upon this place. Looked more like a takeaway but had a few tables and chairs to dine in. Food was excellent and the guy very friendly. Unlicensed though so take own beers/wine. Really recommend.

This is by far the best Indian restaurant for Indian food I would have to say I have tried many Indian restaurants in my life and this one is no1 on the list there food tastes absolutely amazing and there customer service is 10 out of 10 if you haven’t eaten there you are missing out! Every time I come to Ipswich all the way from London just to eat food from sonar bangla…thanks Nayeem 👍

This is by far the easiest review I have ever given. The food, service and attitude of this establishment hasn't changed in the 8 or so years I've been using them. The Sonar Bangla is quite simply the best place in not only Ipswich but also for many many miles, as good as any restaurant you would pay 5 times the price for in London. They are simply in a completely different league to any other place I have tried. Just try them, it's that simple, fantastic food, keenly priced, what else is there to say?

It was trash and the man slammed down the food with force made us feel rushed and it was appalling.

Visited with friends before an 80s gig at the nearby Regent. Everything we had was so good, as always. Onion bhajis, rice dishes, dhansaks, madras and tamarind mains, keema naans were delicious. It is worth a visit to Sonar Bangla, it's small but book a table and don't forget to take your own alcohol 👍🏻 if that's your thing or they do sell soft drinks.

Went to this great little gem with 4 friends & was totally surprised by the excellent delicious food. Our waiter we called him H was so friendly and talked us through the menu. We had the restaurant to ourselves. The dishes all came out hot and the dishes were a good size portion wise. We all decided that we would all definitely visit again. I can not speak highly enough of Sonar Bangla. I would recommend this place, you will not be disappointed. Forgot to mention the prices are very reasonable.

Their lamb dhansak is the lamb dhansak that all other lamb dhansaks should try and aspire to. And the onion bhajis are certainly up there too. Good food, good price. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Nice food nice service friendly people

We've had a few takeaway meals from here and never been disappointed.Food always arrives on time (usually earlier than stated) and is still hot. Good prices and the use of silver trays rather than those plastic ones means the curry sauce doesn't go too watery with condensation.The lamb puri starter is a favourite, rich sauce and tender lamb. Especially when you drizzle a bit of the charred fresh lemon slice on it. Onion baji are great value and tasty.Lamb tikka chilli masalla is a winner. Tasty, hot, rich sauce spicy with fresh green chilli. Mopped up with a peshwari naan is really a really good combo.The mushroom rice is flavoursome too.Free poppadoms and freshly chopped onions, cucumber and coriander to go with them. Cheers Sonar!

Hass and his team have been serving the Ipswich and Suffolk community for years. Their food is always fresh, extremely tasty and offers a huge variety with fantastic value for money. Their delivery service is 2nd to none observing all health and safety at the moment and acting super professional. Don’t go anywhere else. Highly recommended!

Just received a takeaway from sonar and it was the best Indian takeaway I have ever had. It was delivered on time and was very hot. Presented like you would get in the restaurant. Cannot wait to be able to go back in the restaurant when Covid 19 is over. Thank you so much.

I really do love everything about this place. I regularly visit the restaurant, but with the current lockdown situation, learning they do delivery was a real pick-me-up. Food is fantastic as always - amazing flavours and an incredible value for money. The best curries in Ipswich, simple as that.

Great food delivered. Bhaji bag was soaked through and dripping with grease. Had to sort that before we could eat, but in all other respects, brilliant.

We booked in advance for a table for two on a Saturday evening.Establishment is a bring your own - BYO- wine/beer with no corkage charge!We had 4 popadoms with chutney etc, a hot curry dish with rice and a biryani along with a jug of tap water - total cost under £20.The food was of good quality. The service was a little slow as it’s mainly a takeaway with just a few tables, but we were quite happy as given two glasses when we arrived for our wine.The waiter was friendly and efficient considering it was so busy.I would not hesitate to recommend for a good quality inexpensive meal

I have not eaten here for years. I used to use it when it was just a take away just round the corner about 30 years ago! Friends suggested we went there for dinner on a quiet Tuesday night. There was only one other couple there - unusual as when we walk past it is usually packed.We had a friendly welcome and chose from their extensive menu. The 'meal for one' option for about £13 was excellent value. The food was well prepared and tasty with reasonable l portions.I particularly like the fact that they do not sell alcohol but you can bring your own. This restaurant is very good value with good food. I will be back soon. Highly recommended. Probably worth booking a table as it is often full.

Worst curry ever eaten like dish water avoid

Family birthday meal at our favourite Balti House. Cosy but basic little restaurant where the food is consistently very good, as is the friendly service. Great prices and take your own alcohol. What more could you want!

We are so lucky to live within walking distance of this little gem of a restaurant. Although we do not eat in, this is our first choice for a takeaway, the food is always delicious & we have never been disappointed. The portion sizes are good, it is excellent value for money & the staff are friendly & welcoming. I highly recommend a visit, your taste buds will thank you for it.

We visited on the off chance and were lucky to get a table in this small restaurant. The welcome was warm and friendly and the menu quite unusual in a very tempting way.If you want or need alcohol you need to take your own but there were a range of soft drinks and lassi available.When our food arrived it was really delicious. Popped in on a whim to see what vegetarian dishes were available and if they could be made dairy free. Really friendly staff, happy to help. Ordered a dhansak for takeaway, which was ready in 10 minutes. (And eaten in 5!) Really tasty. Big chunks of potato. Will return to try more! Can see why they have good reviews!

This is a long established Indian restaurant with a reputation for good value and quality. It's been a while since we last ate here and I have to say that the meal we had this evening was one of the best ever.The side dishes have shrunk a little in size but grown in quality. The bread is first class and compliments the main courses perfectly. In short this is an unassuming restaurant with basic facilities but first class food.It isn't licensed for alcohol sales but you can take your own in if you wish.Excellent friendly service is the icing on the cake.Not to be missed if you are serious about curry.

Went here after a few Saturday afternoon drinks with friends. Never even heard of this place before so was a bit wary. Wasn’t really expecting much to be honest ,just a post booze meal. The restaurant is small but the staff are so friendly and the food is amazing. Great value for money. Also as the restaurant is unlicensed you can take your own drinks into the restaurant which is a really good touch. Not been back as yet but have used their takeaway/delivery service numerous times and have never been disappointed. The only reason I have not give 5 stars is because the actual restaurant is quite small .

I've eaten here several times and it's always been excellent quality food. The nan breads are gorgeous. Plenty of vegetarian options. This time I tried something called a Mishtee curry (I think); mild with butternut squash - lots of flavor. Staff always very friendly and helpful. You need to take your own alcohol, but we rather like that!

I really like this place. The food is fresh and tasty and they allow you to bring your own drinks, which really makes for a great relaxed evening without worrying about a huge bill at the end. The food prices are very reasonable and two of us had 2 courses with poppadoms, bread and vegetable sides for under £30. The only reason that I didn't give 5 star is because I found my madras sauce slightly on the thin side. I have eaten a lot of madras curry at different places and usually the sauce is quite thick with lots of fresh coriander. The naan bread and the saag paneer were absolutely amazing and by far some of the best I have eaten. Well worth a visit for a hungry night out.

Not the biggest Indian restaurant in town but one of the best. Top quality food and great staff. The fact you can take you own drinks makes this a great value night out.

Great value for money, 4 of us dined tonight 1.04.19 and went for the set menu for 4 persons where it allowed you also amongst set starters and extras you could choose your own main dish. Absolutely fabulous, food delicious and cooked to perfection. Plenty of food, we all left feeling well fed. Needless to say we'll be back. The young man that served us was very patient, nothing was too much trouble and very polite. Love the fact you can take your own alcohol too. Can't wait to go again.

Saturday night takeaway. We had starters of chicken tandoori and lamb tikka. A shared mushroom rice, lamb tikka chilli masala, lamb tikka Balti and peshwari naan. Included free popadums and an onion salad. All for under £24 delivered to the house.

As you can see from my previous review I used to love Sonar Bangla, but we were sorely disappointed on Saturday with the take away. The onion bhajis were dripping in oil, and everything was cold. The saag paneer was not paneer, or certainly not like any that I have ever tasted, it was more like grated cheddar over the spinach. I had recommended this restaurant for take out as I loved it before, and used to order regualrly as well as dine in, something has changed though and I was horribly let down. The naan bread was excellent, but this was the only positive I can say about it. I don't think I would be tempted to go back or order from here again, which is a pity.

We arrived to Ipswich from Manchester quite early Friday night, around 18:00. We hadn't booked the Sonar Bangla as travelling down from Manchester we came on spec and had no problem getting a table.It was quiet at that time, but most places are I find so early.

Decent and consistent, chef is on fire at the moment. Nice little touches too, onion salad separated from normal salad, all salads in a different bag so they don't get warm, really polite and friendly staff. New go-to Indian in Ipswich.

Fantastic tiny curry house that literally is a house! Delicious meal, good menu and great value. Few tables but that's because it's a tiny restaurant, definitely book for busy times. The staff are great and chef really knows his stuff. Recommended.

Have you noticed that local restaurants, that's restaurants that local people eat at, serve good food. It really stands to reason because it they didn't they wouldn't survive.

This restaurant was recommended to me but my experience was so bad. Firstly we had to wait just over 90 minutes before we got our food and then when it did arrive my dish had coriander in it even thou I had specifically asked for the dish without coriander. I'm one of those people that finds coriander tastes like soap so I found the meal was inedible. When I complained to the waiter, firstly about the long wait and then for a second time once the meal arrived his reaction was "I hope you have a better time, next time". Really, firstly does he really think I will return after such a bad experience and secondly if this is how you deal with complaints you are hardly concerned about customer satisfaction. It was shortly after this second exchange that I left the restaurant. NEVER AGAIN.

Not obvious from the outside, but Sonar Bangla is the best Indian Restaurant in Ipswich. The staff are kind and courteous, the prices are good, but most importantly the food is the best you will find. Almost too good to be true. Great for a take away too.

Yes it may not be pretty and on a very noisy main road and no it doesn't have a licence so you have to bring your own alcohol. But both the food and service more than make up for this, great food and waiters very tolerant of large and loud group of middle age idiots. If you really like Indian food then you have to give this a go

Wow. Lived in Ipswich for years and can’t believe I haven’t been here before. Very basic set up. No licence so bring your own. Curry is reasonably priced and fantastic. Authentic no frills food. Make sure you give it a go.

Das Essen war sehr gut, nicht zu vergleichen mit indischen Essen in Deutschland. Wir hatten Chicken tandoori und ein vegetarisches Reisgericht. Das Lokal ist sehr klein und die Treppe nach oben abenteuerlich. Alkohol kann/darf man selber mitbringen, was ich nur aus dem USA kenne.
