When is pub not a pub? When it’s a restaurant and they won’t let you just have a pint

One of the most family friendly bars in Cambridge. Excellent, very well kept real ales from Milton Brewery (try Minerva or Sparta). The food is also outstanding Carribbean Jerk, well presented and good quality.

I love the owners , like family atmosphere , food is very nice , drinks are amazing with lots of types, for the ones who want to experience classic English Pub i would say go for it , i love this place , heart warming place i can say in cold Uk nights good for dinner or chilling , watching the football matches !

This place is a Cambridge tradition. Really characterful pub - each nook and cranny has it's own little ecosystem. Fantastic range of locally brewed beers.

I did nit eat there but Friends told me is good. They have local craft beer and a huge amount of differents ciders. Nice place.

Fabulous cider selection, and all the Milton brewery stuff if you like their ales. If you don't like cider or Milton stuff then the draft selection is limited. Decent range of bottled beers though. Trivia cards on the tables are a bit of fun.

I gave 5 stars to the food although i didn't have any as it was pretty late on a Wednesday night and i was on my way home from work and i had a train to catch. I bet it would be a fair rating though as the service from the very friendly/helpful bar st aff was excellent. The atmosphere was amazing too. Great little pub.

"Sour beer and hostile regulars" will always be my favourite Google review of my wonderful local hostelry. Come give it a try and I 100% guarantee you wont wake up in an ice bath with no kidneys and only a sketchy memory of the previous evening 78% of the time.

The dev is one of the most warm and welcoming pubs in Cambridge, in my opinion. I celebrated my birthday there on Monday and the bar staff a lovely as always and create such a great vibe. The bar has a fantastic range of drinks, including amazing German sour beers ! The food is fantastic, my friends and I had been eager for the food and was not disappointed ! the pork belly consistently is the best I've ever had ! the ribs are a fantastic addition to the menu and have not been able to stop raving about it.

Nathalie the manager was very helpful, gave us cider tasters every time we were ordering to make sure we drank something we like. The cider selection is really impressive and she knows them well. Cozy atmosphere!

Lovely little pub, very traditional decor, friendly staff and a MASSIVE variety of beers, ciders and spirits! Didn't get a chance to try the food but the menu looked good!

This is a great real ale venue in Cambridge. Just off Mill Street which is full of small restaurants from all over. The Devonshire ticks all the boxes if you are into real ales or ciders. Great staff and friendly locals can also be added to the mix

We had food and drinks, staff very friendly. Chef lady was so nice. Very cozy place, Big tables and boardgames. Great taste of music.

Beer always great and food now back on

It is a nice relax pub atmosphere with good food. We had the bbq beef ribs with sweet potato chips and it was great. Even the Malbec wine was nice, deep and complex. Would definitely recommend for a nice relaxing lunch.

Great place to visit once in cambridge for lunch with family or friends

Popped in on Sunday for a drink and decided to try their goat curry and jerk chicken specials. Both were delicious! Big portion sizes for great value too. They also have a great range of ales and ciders to try. We'll be back!

We enjoyed a variety of drinks and the knowledgeable barman helped select, I really appreciated the wide range of ciders on offer. All five of us had food and that was a nice surprise, for typical pub pricing the Jerk options were really good. Its sometime since I've been to the Devonshire but we will be back soon. EDIT - its the wrong side of town but we only waited 2 weeks before going back for more of the cider ;-)

Popped in on the way to the station and had an excellent half of Minerva. Cellar cool on a warm day, exactly how cask should be served. Next time I visit Cambridge I shall be spending a lot more time in this pub.

Visited by chance on the way to station. Fantastic choice of ciders (not the usual Thatchers Gold). Very knowledgeable and friendly staff - will definitely return next time in Cambridge.

Local pub with great atmosphere just off Mill Road. Super friendly staff, great beer and cider selection. They also serve amazing food! The new chefs from the Caribbean are great. This is the best Jerk chicken that I ever had. Don't miss it!!

We had read that this was the CAMRA cider pub of the year. So, as a proper cider drinker I had to visit. I was not disappointed. I’ve never seen a pub with so many proper ciders on, It was like a cider festival. The lady behind the bar was really friendly and knowledgeable. Prices were very reasonable. Need to book accommodation closer to this pub next time we visit Cambridge and work my way through the list 😂

Paid this one a return visit as part of a recent crawl of Cambridge’s fine back street pubs as the first venue on the crawl due to its proximity to Cambridge Train Station. It’s now painted a dark terracotta red to distinguish itself from the adjoining houses, so you now get the true view of how small it looks from the outside. Inside it fortunately is a lot bigger than it appears from the front, being two rooms with the smaller bar room as you enter and then a larger wooden floored lounge area with its log burning fire beyond. Eight hand pumps on the long bar section and two additional ones on the short section which I believe are additional to my previous visit. However, these were unbadged and two were reverse clipped, leaving five Milton Ales and a cider on the other six. The breweries Marcus Aurelius, Pegasus, Justinian, Nero and Sparta were the available ales and the Stout I went for was a good ale to start the crawl. However, the ale pumps are now fronted by multiple clips and cards for the range of Ciders and Perrys (some 14 of them) that the Dev is now getting a reputation for. So much so that it had been awarded the local Cambridge and District CAMRA branch 2024 Cider POTY award a couple of weeks prior to our visit. This is still a very good pub and should be included in any crawl of Cambridge, especially when disembarking from the nearby train station.

We were nearby and came for the food. Ordered Escovitch Fish, Soy-Glazed Tofu and Squid Ring. The fish and tofu dishes were really good. The combination of ingredients in both dishes were delightful. Highly recommended.

Near the station, near Mill Road. A lovely pub. Great beer from a local brewery. A kind professional landlady. Good knowledgeable staff. I am told good food but I live nearby so have not tried. A great pub. Ah good music also but not overbearing. Doing well as a business but could do even better! Help it on its way. Check opening times and go for it.

A fantastic pub. A short walk away from the station and the bustle of Mill road. Friendly and helpful barman that helped us find a nice cider (amongst the dozen or so that were on offer) and a cask ale. They had a nice range of the Milton Brewery's beers and they're all top class. Didn't try the food though, saving that for a later date.

I came straight from train station, only 8 min walk for a nice pint of beer. I met up with my BF after long journey to Cambridge. The bar staff was nice, friendly and funny and made us feel welcome. The prices was reasonable and the selection at drinks was good too. We prefer to have some beer or ales and they have good selection of draught beers and ales. They have also smoking area outside behind the bar and there is plenty space for sitting as well. Lovely experience.

Just off Mill Road (lots of restaurants and food shops) this is a great place for good beer - a wide range from Milton Brewery - good background music and people speak well of the food served. The landlady and her staff seem pleased to see you. Highly recommended.

A *fantastic* pub with a great range of Milton Brewery beers. The bar staff are, as with all the Milton pubs, very friendly. From my point of view the front part of the bar area is rather dark. A brighter ceiling colour would make a world of difference and probably bring in more business.

Cracking pub. I'm giving it a 4 for food because I've never tried it, but it looks pretty decent and I've heard good things. Friends of mine have always cleaned their plates though and said that the food was good, so I'd definitely give the food a go.

My go-to hide out if trains are cancelled. Bit further away than the station pubs (obviously) but worth the extra walk. No frills proper pub.

A good pub especially if you like the range of local Milton beers available. There seems to be a real ale for all taste preferences. Didn't try food.. don't know if they do it, but the Curry Queen round the corner is very good.

Proper Cambridge pub with great beer from Milton brewery.

Older pub this than a lot in the area. And it looks it. The staff here are genuinely really nice and you can tell it has a lot of regulars that come here. I had a new pint called muravka, which was going eggy, hence the 3 stars. I must pop past in the future to see if this was a one-off or not.

The pub had had at least 8 cask ales on when we visited. Both of the ones I tried, from the Milton brewery, were very good . Staff and locals were very friendly.

The Devonshire Arms offers a friendly welcome to its varied clientele. Ales are from the nearby Milton Brewery, so a great chance for aficionados to try something different and local - all perfectly kept. Food is now by Chicken n Tings, which as the name suggests focuses on chicken wings, burgers etc. Budget-friendly and tasty enough.

I had reserved a few tables for my work leaving drinks here and was welcomed by lovely staff and locals. The drinks and food were at a great price, but tasted great too! Vast selection of beers and other drinks; food was quick to come out for such a large group. Was welcomed by Natalie and the rest of the team - friendly and fabulous customer service! Will definitely be coming back here again for drinks and food in the future. Thank you for a lovely time, we all enjoyed ourselves!

Well located and with a table or two spare on Friday night! Great range of real ale really well kept. My wife was impressed by the range of toiletries available free in the ladies...though I can’t vouch for this! Well worth a look in

The Devonshire is a back street pub just off Mill Road. They serve very well kept real ales, mainly from the local Milton Brewery. The food is well priced I had a very large Garlic Pizza Bread.

Each time I have come here, the pub has been completely packed full of people. On the face of it, the pub is good and offers a variety of beers which in some cases you also may not have heard of. There is a traditional feel inside this establishment, with wooden benches but limited standing space. When it’s busy, the Arms is heaving and it can make navigating yourself from one point to another very difficult as people look to occupy every last inch of space. I’ve heard the food here is very nice but I haven’t tried it myself.

Serves beer truly brewed in Cambridge. Milton brewery Justinian is light, a happy ‘hoppy’ feel, good session beer. This is a ‘no-frills’ pub but it is friendly and relaxed. Don’t expect a gastro-pub but food is available and is tasty and good value.

Første gangen bestilte jeg en burger som forsåvidt holdt til karakteren middelmådig hadde det ikke vært for at den ble luftet så mange ganger rundt omkring i lokalet før den fant sin rettmessige eier at den var blitt helt kald. I dag prøvde jeg en steik og den var så seig at det vanskelig kan beskrives med ord. Jeg har sikkert smakt noe av samme kaliber men det må være minst 30 år siden sist!

Quirky pub, quirky staff, interesting bits all over the place. I like it here, drinks are lovely, great selection of ales. Food is sooooo good. They have special offers on different days of the week. Pizza is especially great.

Went in with friends on a weekend trip, small pub with a fine selection of ales many from the Milton brewery were on offer. In all it had a very homely feel about it and we were mde to feel welcome.

Came here to meet friends before a football match at Cambridge United, a half hour walk from the Abbey Stadium. Great little pub; a fine selection of ales and an inventive bar menu (2 different vegetarian hot dogs? I use this principally as an example of diversity but I can also endorse the choice). The staff were both friendly and helpful.
