Nice selection of beers and ciders. Recommend the chicken wings. The pork crunch are like pork rinds.

The best place for beer in Cambridge by far. They normally have 17 or so keg beers, 6 or more cask beers, cider on tap as well as an extensive gin and whisky menu. They do bar snacks (highly recommend the scotch egg) and sit down meals in dedicated restaurant areas. The Sunday roast is well worth booking. There's also outside seating at the back which is easily missed (go left at the stairs and follow the corridor).

The Sunday roast pork belly was absolutely delicious. The crackling was, unfortunately soft, so was a little disappointed it wasn't crispy as described as I was quite looking forward to it. That being said the meal in it's self was filling and the sauce was very good! I would definitely have it again. The sticky toffee pudding was spot on! Great evening, lovely slick, on it, friendly service, and the food was terrific, better than I remember. Only complaint was we were in a relatively small dining room and the neighbouring table was a large group of very noisy, public schooly types. Killed the evening for us a bit. Not the restaurant's fault obviously, but comes with the territory in Cambridge I guess.

Food was decent but took 90 mins for our food to come o,n actually what was a quiet service (empty tables in the downstairs dining room and upstairs when I poked my head in). Everything took forever (30 mins for a missed scotch egg). We had to wolf down our food in 10 mins when it finally came as we were very late for a prior engagement. I requested a quiet table as I'm quiet deaf but we got put next to the music speaker which was inexplicably turned up during our meal and I couldn't hear anything but it. They turned it down fairly quickly though. Just a disappointing birthday meal for my 8 year old with his grandparents

Two of us for dinner, one meal lovely as we expect from The Pint Shop. The other, veggie burger was very disappointing. They have changed from Beyond Meat to another type and it was thin and flavourless and had no texture. The red cabbage slaw was more like an Asian salad with coriander and no mayo. Such a shame because we are regular visitors and on this occasion I left underwhelmed.

There is a wide ranging but short printed menu then a handful of specials. All the food feels cooked to order and everything my husband and I had was delicious. The drinks are fairly reasonably priced, the place is of course known for its wide range of beers which we have sampled many times in the past. The service is good and the staff friendly, if I was being super critical I think the waiting staff could be more engaging, but I fully recommend this place (we have been here many times over the years even though we're not local and it never disappoints)

Been going here for years but in the last year, the food quality and service have both really gone downhill. The last 3 visits all had significant issues with both the length of time to receive meals (over an hour in 2 cases) and the accuracy of the food delivered (missing or wrong items, items incorrectly cooked). In all cases, it wasn't even very busy and there appeared to be plenty of staff working. A case in point is their steaks which they promote heavily - steer clear! After several tries, it is clear they have no idea how to correctly cook one, either under- or over-cooking by at least one grade each time (e.g. the last one was requested medium but came well done, a previous one was requested medium-rare but came blue). Given the high quality of meat they use (Malloys) and the high prices they charge for this (ribeye is currently £40) this is very frustrating. After so many issues recently, our meal there this week was the 'last chance saloon' for the Pint Shop & they failed again - we won't be going back.

I brought a group of 8 friends from the US to celebrate a milestone birthday in the UK. This would be the only Sunday Roast many of them ever had or will have, and I'm sorry to say it was a bloody disaster. I still can't figure out why as they were practically deserted on a Sunday at 4:30 pm. We were upstairs and almost completely ignored. We had a nice young guy helping us but he seemed very anxious and inexperienced. It took forever just to get our drinks ordered. They were out of most vegetarian options and we had two vegetarians. We were there for 2.5 hours and still hadn't been served our desserts (that we paid for) by the time we had to leave, despite telling them multiple times we needed to go. The young guy serving us seemed really apologetic but was totally hung out to dry by the rest of his colleagues. The worst of all is that despite their impressive beer list that I was really eager to try, we were never again offered the opportunity to order a drink. Who is running this place?? AVOID.

The service is laid back which was ok because we had time but it did take over an hour to get our main course and probably 20mins to get drinks. The starter was just chopped tomatoes and goat cheese crumbled on it for £9 there was no special dressing to make the simple ingredients stand out particularly. My vegetarian dish was a little disappointing and was burnt. My husband didn’t complain about the lamb but didn’t rave either. I have eaten better for the price of a meal for 2 at £65 with 2 soft drinks.

Visited on a Sunday evening, found a lively, busy venue. Ordered starters & 4 roast dinners and a steak. Starters were fine but the roasts were barely warm when they arrived so had to go back, along with the steak as we wanted to eat as a group. Manager arrived and apologised, blamed her team and provided a free round of drinks to smooth over the situation. Mistakes can happen so really surprised to see the same mistake made twice, “new” dinners not much warmer and steak now char grilled where they thought they could reheat what should have been a medium rare steak. Let our waitress know but by now time was getting on and we were hungry. This time the manager was nowhere to be seen. Awkward moment when the poor waitress had to present the bill and we had to summon the manager rather than her front up to the issues. A real shame because the food looked really good just poorly prepared for what ever reason. Shout out to our waitress, a young girl called Fliss, who did is good job in a bad situation, shame the same can’t be said about the manager.

This hidden gem was a beautiful venue to catch up with friends on Saturday. Bearing in mind we had only booked earlier that week, we were given a private room with beautiful quirky decor. The amount of beer and gin choices was insane!!! Would be a good pub to try them all and rate them with your friends. The food came within half an hour of ordering, and because my order would take 25 minutes they warned us when I ordered in case it would cause disruptions. One of my guests were stuck in traffic for about an hour, but they didn’t mind, I managed to order them food and a drink before they arrived so it wouldn’t delay. 10/10 service and experience would highly recommend again!

Really hate to do this as I love the Pint Shop on a normal day but truly…. avoid on a Sunday. £20 for any and all roasts, including vegetarian. So already pricier than other pubs, but maybe because it’s amazing? No. Just meat, potato, carrot, cabbage and a Yorkshire. Unless you order the vegetarian roast in which case you don’t get a Yorkshire unless you ask (again it’s £20) and the gravy isn’t a liquid its mashed up unseasoned mushrooms in a pot. (Bisto gravy is veggie btw and super easy to make with a kettle.) As disappointing as it was over priced.

Strange, but very quirky pub, not overly big inside, but probably one of the best selection of beers in Cambridge really nice food and an outside for smokers and a different place for people that just want to sit and enjoy their time in there friendly staff and quite quick to serve you. They always give out a little taster for the beers and the only bad thing about the place is that they have heavy metal music on sometimes and it really ruins the vibe. apart from that, it shouldn’t be five stars it should be 10 very good if you want to go on a date or just hang out with mates toilet is long as it takes two flights of stairs to get up there but always a disabled toilet downstairs so not a problem. I wanted to enjoy the Pint Shop. On the basis of reviews, I had recommended it to a friend who was kind enough to take me there. There was nothing that was bad. The food just didn't reach the quality level at which I would rush to go back and the atmosphere was a bit stark. In my case the sardines were nicely cooked but there was a lack of generosity in the bowl of anonymous chopped fruit and vegetables that accompanied it. Perhaps the servers need to encourage people to add side dishes. I was left slightly confused about what the market positioning of the place is. If it is a pub with food, I would go to one of the many traditional pubs that offer better value for money. If it is a restaurant, there are other choices.

This is purely a feedback review to the kitchen here. I just want to emphasise I think this place is great ! Quirky, good atmosphere and overall they do a great job ! But the quality of the steak I was served last night was very substandard unfortunately. This was attended to by the staff & manager very diligently & I can’t praise them enough, but the kitchen really let down last night. It was replaced & I left it at that, although cooked better it was extremely tough & had to eat around what I could. Did not complain again as staff was wonderful but as mentioned, this is a note to kitchen & quality of meat here. They removed the charge for this so again I can’t praise the staff enough and I do adore the place! Atmosphere is great & quality ales & craft IPA’s are a delight! Will come again as I have many times and will recommend overall but to kitchen and meat quality sourcing it needs a bit of attention here on the steak element of menu. I cook huge flat iron at home from Waitrose summer menu and it is a great, tender cut when the meat quality is good. Thanks guys, just some feedback so this can be looked at and some attention given. Many thanks. See you soon.

MORE AT OpenTable

Booked lunch for 4 people on a Saturday. The table was downstairs at the back and the room had a nice atmosphere. Our starters were delicious: Scotch egg, lightly battered Japanese mushrooms, a goats cheese and tomato salad and coppa ham and Manchego. The range of beers to have alongside was also excellent. For our mains three ordered the chicken schnitzel and one the pork belly. The pork belly was good, though a bit low on pork but the belly is one of those cuts with little meat on. The chicken schnitzel was breaded but not a flattened breast as is usual, but more a deep fried 1/4 chicken. All was well until we got closer to the bones and the meat was very pink and at least one of our portions was not cooked properly. As more of us discovered pink and red we decided not to finish our meals. The staff were very apologetic and after a brief discussion gave us the meal for free. It was doubly unfortunate as the reason we were at Pint Shop was to spend a voucher received because at our last visit a meal was not cooked properly. The staff took the matter seriously and after examination pointed out that of the 3 schnitzel only one was undercooked, but by that point we had all lost confidence in what we were eating. Sadly I don’t think we will visit Pint Shop again for a meal, but we can’t fault the starters and snacks, and the beers on offer as ever are worth visiting for.
