A place to go for something different: local delicacies of pyclets and oatcakes served with flavoursome toppings. I had the "Canadian" (pyclets with bacon and maple syrup). The food is beautiful and the staff are welcoming. As of March 2024, it shares premises with "Derby Uncovered" which sells local food and non-food products, including pyclets to take away.

Recommended without hesitation for their excellent value pyclets (local delicacy- think crumpet crossed with oatcake) that come with tasty and imaginative toppings. Also have oatcake wraps (another East Midlands/Staffs speciality) and other light lunch/tea choices. Nice upstairs room in the historic Sadler Gate, which is full of indie shops and eating/drinking venues. Friendly staff, relaxed vibe, and they also do takeaway and packs of pyclets and oatcakes to take home. Forget corporate coffee shops - this is the real deal for Derby heritage. Eat local and eat well at affordable prices!

after seeing this place on FB, I drove into Derby town centre solely to eat here. We were treated like queens from the outset. I stated I didn't like open spaces so was placed with my daughter into an intimate quite area - perfect. Drinks came and were spot on. I don't eat egg white so requested my eggs benedict without the whites, they came out perfect and runny. I was really full by the time I finished and my daughter loved her sweet pyclet - she couldn't finish it! Have to say the ladies here were fantastic, lovely vibe, friendly and accommodating, you don't often get treated as though you are special these day but the staff went over and above. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND -GO CHECK THEM OUT!

I have bin to this wonderful gem of a place many times now and I simply cannot recommend it enough unfortunately it is tucked away down a area called saddlergate just on the edge of the city and not easily to spot area of Derby However if you do not know derby just head towards the cathedral area and simply ask someone as it is nearby the cathedral and trust me once you tried these lovely pyclets you will definitely wonder how or why you have never tried or discovered them before And Katie and her staff are lovely and are very accommodating to your dietary requirements as much as possible and also cater for vegetarians Suffice to say we emptied our plates

I went in to ask about their gluten free pyclets. The staff are very knowledgeable about avoiding cross contamination during the making process and ordering in the cafe. I bought some takeaway gluten free and chive pyclets which were delicious, and I would be really happy to safely eat in the cafe too - the menu looks (and smells) delicious. The staff were really lovely and helpful- and clearly passionate about what they produce.

We were disappointed, the coffee was very strong and bitter and a lot of food items were unavailable, it was freezing in there and did not seem very organized, when paying they did not have enough change to give me £7 (so what would of happened if I had no more change or cards on me?) also the menu was wet, dirty, and sticky and fell apart

A charming owner-run cafe selling freshly-made pyclets and Derbyshire oatcakes, with a wide range of savoury and sweet fillings. We had lunch there, but it would have been equally good for breakfast. Three of us decided to call in here for a spot of lunch And WOW! talk about amazing food forget what you think you know about pyclets I did and I'm born and bred derbyshire OMG! these pyclets are just fantastic and amazing who knew a humble this like a pyclet could become such a schmorgasboard if tastes and flavours on your tastebuds Who knew there was so much you could put on top of a pycley Spoilt for choice with the quite vast menu however I am that one of the of the friends that is awkward to feed (very fussy) 😁 However nothing was too much trouble for her and I ended up with the most amazing meal the main was lovely bacon cheese etc but the desert OMG is all I can say So when you are in Derby and want something different to eat get yourself to this little gem

We visited their parlour before lockdown and loved the breakfast we had which we had won in a competition. Then lockdown took over the world and couldn't visit again but luckily they decided to do deliveries, well that was it we were hooked. We have had so many pyclets and oatcakes from them and tried so many combinations of flavours and added our own toppings, some quite unusual but they work so well. Really versatile, breakfast, lunch or just a snack they fit the bill... My personal favourite is a warm cheesy pyclet with a runny poached duck egg over the top. I am actually making myself hungry from looking through the photos ibhave taken of them. Katie is a lovely friendly person and has a great business here and certainly recommend you sample her food.

We were overjoyed to find this little place just as we entered Eagle Market from the car park. We were dying for a coffee and were pleased to find that we could have soya decafs without any trouble. Café presentation was both querky and excellent despite being very reasonably priced. The tea was served in teapots with enough for nearly two full mugs. We are glad we found it.

Ordered a vegan pyclet, but realised about halfway through eating that they'd made me one with real cheese on top. When I complained, they made me an actual vegan one, but unfortunately I was starting to feel quite ill from the dairy I'd eaten by the time it arrived and couldn't really eat it. The people working there seem nice, but I don't think they understand how serious a mistake like this can be for people with allergies and intolerances.

Visited today at the Eagle Market in Derby. Young lad asked us if we wanted anything to drink ordered a latte and a hot chocolate, he asked if we wanted the chocolate with water or milk???? Err milk? Water and hot choc powder no thanks! Asked if we wanted food we said yes but to give us a minute to read the menu. Drinks arrived hot choc only luke warm , latte was disappointing tbh more like Nescafé powder with milk. Never returned to take our food order? Sat for ten minutes, Drank our drinks paid and left. Looked like kids were running the operation but seemed to be charting to their mates sitting at the breakfast bar rather than serving or caring about customers. I had been told the service was poor but wanted to try it myself and yes unfortunately it was poor. Would not recommend nor visit again and never tried the food!

I am ashamed to admit that I have been past the Derby Pyclet outlet in the Market Hall more times than I can remember. Yesterday I was in Derby with my husband and we decided to try a pyclet (I remember them as pikelets, when I was a girl, but there you go) We were served by a delightful young lady, who produced two wonderful pyclets which we had with butter and strawberry jam. They were absolutely delicious - fresh and cooked to perfection. We bought two packs to take home with us. It's a good idea to get them asap as they are made on the day, so the products are fresh. I plan to try some with poached eggs - a change from ordinary toast. The restaurant-ette is charming, spotlessly clean and we were served our pyclets on lovely patterned china plates. Very reasonable prices, and I shall definitely be going again. I only wish I had gone before now. A very nice experience.

We originate from the Derbyshire/Staffirdshire boarder, we in Derby for a couple of days and came across The Derby Pyclet Company. At the front of the shop display was some oatcakes that looked like Staffordshire oatcakes, I asked if they were made to a similar recipy, I was rather abruptly put in my place, having the ingredients spelt out to me.Back in East Yorkshire we had some for breakfast, a bit stoggy and not a lot of taste.

Visiting Derby For the first time, step through the doors of Derby Market Hall, as well as a building of great architectural excellence, there is the Derby Pyclet Company . Unique in its products one has to sample this historical delicacy .Try it as a savoury or sweet snack. you will not be disappointed.

The Derby Pyclet Company is a great example of what the Derby Market hall could be, a haven for niche, independent businesses. The food and staff are great, the owner is a character, who will chat to all of his customers about anything and everything. We often drop in for a snack and it is always great. My kids love it, and the chocolate ones are a real treat, the wife loves the Stilton, honey and walnut. So, why not 5 stars?Well, it's not "Fast Food", life at the Pyclet company is at a chilled pace, so it can take 10 minutes from ordering to getting your food. Now this is not a bad thing, but it means you can't just fly by and grab something hot.The other thing is seating, there are 4 seats, and often they are all full.Creating a "lounge" area in the next unit would change the whole flow of customers, and they would see a big increase in sit down trade. We've all become used to food on the go, and sometimes we need to slow down, sit down and watch the world go by. We'll be back there again and again, I believe in spending my money with the "Independents" where possible, and these guys deserve to do well.

The place is always busy which a good sign, however food quality has lowered. Prices still the same. Maybe they have changed chef, I will try again next time to see if its gone any better.

The place was busy but i need to stress here that the customer care was poor...probably understaffed but they need to cater to the needs in a rush...the food quality seems to have changed...

Had a lovely time here. Some great staff, and some nice cocktails. The other patrons were also friendly so it was a good vibe.

Excellent service. Great value. Food looked and tasted amazing. Great outdoor space at rear and a large car park. Lots of TVs throughout the pub for sport and music. Pool table. Great location in city centre but not right in the centre of it all so perfect. Close to train station, shopping centre and a short walk to the bus station and taxi rank.

Food awful, mixed grill looked like it had been reheated 3 times over. Order was totally cocked up and the venue itself is in need of a refresh
