They have a lovely shop further down the harbour as well as the kiosk. The ice cream is outstanding and made on site. The young lad that served us today was delightful with a winning smile and lovely manner (a big contrast to the surly ladies in Rockfish takeaway) and we thought the price was amazing for a huge scoop of amazing ice cream. Don't hesitate. Buy local products.

Cream tea ice cream. That’s it. Those 4 words. Absolutely delicious. Clotted cream ice cream, jam, bits of scone, perfection. If you aren’t eating it with a fudge stick and a dollop of clotted cream on top then you’re being sensible, but where’s the fun in that?

We went to The Good Intent to get some ice creams after a meal at a restaurant nearby to find that it had already closed. The 2 people in the shop could see the devastated look on my 4 year old Grandson’s face and came rushing out to explain that they had cashed up, but they would give him a small ice cream for free. The ice cream was huge! And my grandson are the lot! We went back the following evening and had ice creams all round and some fudge which were all delicious! We will be back before the end of our holiday for more as it’s too good to miss. What fantastic customer service! I would thoroughly recommend this place! 😊

I’m very sad to be writing this but I think this should be voiced as this isn’t the first time this has happened in, what I would normally state is, my favourite ice cream shop. As I am writing this review I am referring to the shop which is near the lower car ferry. Upon entry to the ice cream parlour there were three very young girls behind the counter, one of which served my friend. However, one out of the two not serving was sat on her phone which you could very obviously see and did not look professional at all. The other was stood folding napkins and chatting to the girl on the chair, they chatted between themselves leaving me stood there for over 5 minutes although they both looked at me as I walked in so they knew I was waiting to be served. My friend had to say to the girl doing her ice cream “are they not going to serve my friend” and it took for that for the young girl who served my friend to give them a look to suggest to serve me. One of them got up and laughed and said “sorry was nattering away there” I told them that I wanted some fudge and an ice cream. The girl looked at the other girl and said “can you get me a box” and then said “I don’t know how to do it can you do it for me” which again, didn’t look good and there was no professionalism there at all, it seemed as though she did know how to do it and just couldn’t be bothered. They also said “yay 3 minutes left” between themselves and said “can’t wait to get out of here” which again highlights my point that they couldn’t be bothered. Whilst they were cutting my fudge and doing my ice cream they were all nattering between themselves and made no effort to engage in conversation with their paying customers, by this point there was a queue out the door which there was no need for as there was more than enough staff on to deal with the customers waiting, bearing in mind there was still one more girl who could have served another customer but decided to stand at the back of the counter tops and watch. I also came in yesterday and there were a group of young people behind the counter, at least 4-5 which seemed like way too many people, especially with coronavirus going on. They seemed of an age range between 18-22 and again, I was served but they all chatted between each other and didn’t once make an effort to talk to me, and I understand this may be a summer job for them but the lack of professionalism made me feel very uncomfortable, they also were all whispering to each other which made me feel as though they were saying things about the customers which most likely isn’t the case but it makes you feel uncomfortable as you are just stood there in silence. Like I said at the start I’m very sad to be writing this but something needs to be done about this, this is my favourite ice cream shop but it made me not want to pay due to the appalling customer service, you should not be hiring young people if they don’t have social skills, etiquette or have not been trained well enough to cut some fudge and put it in a box.

This hand made ice cream shop, which also sells fudge and sweets made me feel like a child again!Sitting on the seafront wall, dangling my legs over the edge, an ice cream in one hand watching the boats pass bye. Terrible ice cream with terrible service from the good intent shop. It may have something to do with the fact that it’s winter and out of season but the ice cream clearly wasn’t fresh with a layer of congeal on top of all the ice creams which really didn’t taste nice. After talking to the lady politely we soon realised she clearly wasn’t happy and dismissively served us a fresh pot without an apology. It still didn’t taste nice...we binned the ice cream and went to Salcombe Ice Cream and was served with a smile.

The Title says it all. It is so far ahead of all the other 'home made' fudge manufacturers in Dartmouth regaridng its product it is ridiculous. They dont have to stand on Lower Street giving away free samples to induce people to buy like others! The quality speaks for itself. Furthermore, it's ice creams with an imaginative range of flavours (and with clotted cream on top of course) and bisccuits etc are all great. We love going in here whenever we visit Dartmouth.

We always call in to this shop (called 'The Good Intent' in Lower Street, Dartmouth) when in the South Hams - it is part of the Dartmouth Ice cream Company and offers wonderful locally made ice creams with a large range of flavours, all manner of manufactured biscuits, fudge and toffees. But the attraction for us is that it sends real Devonshire clotted cream from Langage Farm (none of that Rodda's Cornish rubbish that regrettably seems to have insinuated itself into most supermarkets and tea shops throughout Devon!) which we send as we did in the old days to our nearest and dearest by post. The other big attraction is the handmade fudge created inside the shop itself using local ingredients. It is the very best in this town and the surrounding area by a 'country mile' and you should accept no substitute! With flavours ranging from clotted cream and smooth chocolate to concoctions including Devon cream tea, raspberry swirl, mint choc or Orange choc, lemon meringue pie, pistachio and many more. And if you buy three 100g sticks you get a fourth free in a special gift box. Just wonderful. And a fabulous bright place with thoughtful and helpful staff. Give it a try. Buy your ice creams and walk the forty yards to the nearby Bayards Cove and sit on the cobbled path from where the Pilgrim Fathers left Dartmouth in the Mayflower and enjoy the fabulous views of the River Dart. Quintessential English Heaven!

If you visit Dartmouth that is one of the shops that must be seen. First is a huge choice of delicious icecreams. Cream of coconut is my favorite at the moment :-). Secondly, the service, people behind the counter. Icecream with a kind smile taste so much better. Few days ago I promised my little one an icecream. We were running late and made it to the shop when they were almost closed. They served us with no effort at all with the same politeness. And other people who came after us. Another thing, their one scoop is like some other places 3 scoops so you get a lot for your money. Thank you guys for representing Dartmouth :-).
