The vegi and vegan food isn't up to much. What really spectacularly spoils the whole thing however is that they serve everything smushed together one one tray - loose chicken wings, unplated burgers - up against unplated vegan hotdog. It's ludicrous to advertise specifically vegi/vegan sections of the menu then serve like this. Completely spoiled. Avoid if you're vegi/vegan. (Two stars because the meat-eaters in our party enjoyed their food.)

I wondered why the place was empty, when we came from a very full Sylvan Post. I sort of found out .... whilst the food is good (it's not jawdropping) - the fact that we had 2 beers each, ordered 2 burgers, some wings and a couple of sides - and pony'ed up £90 was really surprising. MeatLiquor needs a good hard look at this pricing - considering it was dead, I can see why - people aren't able to fork out those prices for a casual meal.

Just one point to mention is in relation to the monkey fingers where the sauce was a little acidic. Having enjoyed monkey fingers in the past I got the impression the recipe for the sauce has changed and I don’t believe it is better than before.

We live locally, and we have been to The Dartmouth Arms for food a few times before. I also nip in for a pint every now and again. However, it is clear to me that things have gone downhill. Certainly customer service wise. The person who mainly served us last night was fairly unfriendly and cold. There was no sense from her that she valued us as customers. Food-wise, the burger was pretty greasy. There was a lack of care in how my burger, and that of my family was put together (e.g. my daughters was largely smeared in a cheesy mess that she didn't like). It's a shame. I used to really like the Dartmouth Arms, and go in there frequently. But no more.

Ruined a lovely little local, now just a smelly over priced burger bar. Such a shame, décor is horrible as are the over priced beers. Won’t be going back, though was my local for 20yrs. Of course things change but they should be for the better!

This place is going all out for profit and not in a good way. Nothing wrong with the food or drinks. I was not impressed at the compulsory 12% service charge for 2 people dining on a Friday night. ( burgers! This is not a five star restaurant), even then compulsory service charge, should be for parties of 8 or more. This is simply not a transparent or honest business practice.

Meat liquor take over my local and I can’t even eat there anymore because it’s only burgers most days. I might be tempted but the meat liquor chain can’t be bothered to offer a gluten free bun. You can’t have your burger wrapped in lettuce in apparently. Is it so hard to keep a couple of GF buns in the freezer? Meat liquor been trading long enough surely!!?? Web presence says ‘its a pub that happens to have a meat liquor inside’ but the corporate style pictures on the walls don’t make it a good place to linger anymore….. bit of a dining hall feel…. shame….. and a bit short sighted really….. tune into forest hill and it might look after you. It ain’t East Dulwich ….. and nor does it want to be.

Not surprising when we checked the items: a carafe of white wine had been put in half way down; and we had been charged for 2 beers instead of the 1 that we had. We had been overcharged by £17, and couldn't escape the suspicion that this had been a try-on. All I can say is - don't pay until you've looked carefully at the bill.

I visited couple of weeks ago with my partner. We were both starving but personally I struggled to pick anything of the menu. In the end I went for halloumi skewers. At almost £9 (or just over £9) I got 3 or 4 stick of cheese with 2 dips - more like a starter than a meal. I wish the waiter suggested a side dish; then again a main meal would come close to £14-15 which is rather outrageous for grilled cheese and side veg. The wine list was as sad as it can only get and white wine that I ordered was vile. On the outside it looks like a great pub but it really does not deliver neither on food nor wine. On the positive side, the waiter that served us was great. I read some reviews on rude staff in this place and have to say that we did not experience any of that, quite the opposite. Still, rather disappointing experience on the whole.I ve recently moved to the area but can't imagine that I will be going back there any time soon, if ever.

Banjo was a regular here some years ago, working nearby, this place was viewed as modern and comfortable, certainly compared to the then nearby competition. Move on those years to the present day and Banjo returns with Poppy. It's like he never left. If a pub tries to be trendy, then by its very definition, it has to remain on trend, this pub hasn't. It is in severe danger of being caught in a time warp, the pub that time, and punters, forgot. Still cramped and an awkward layout, it needs the space redefined, Banjo swears the man he accidentally fell upon and crushed all those years ago is still impregnated in the ghastly 70's wallpaper. With cheery staff and clean throughout, our adventurers feel there is hope that this joint can reinvent itself either into a serious boozer or back on trend as it could, with some effort.

It was clean, the decor was actually incredible, however, I ordered flatbread with taupenaud and hummus, the serving sizes of the hummus and taupenaud were as much as you'd get if you'd ask for ketchup with chips, so wasn't too pleased about having to eat bread on its own - I've been making hummus and taupenaud at home recently, so wish I'd just stayed in my own kitchen.Nobody came to check on my food, or ask if I wanted another drink. The staff were okay, but weren't particularly friendly, as customer service should be. They didn't acknowledge I was leaving, its not like it was busy, there were about 3 other people there. Even though I cleared glasses from my table and put them on the bar where staff member was, they didn't say goodbye, or welcome me to come back. Also when ordering they didn't try to up sell me at all, having worked in a bar I know upselling works, I thought this is something they should probably be advising the staff to do, as I would have been totally open for suggestions from staff about the menu, or probably would have ordered another drink if they'd have asked if I wanted one during the time I was eating. However, I think they have done a really great job of the decorating.

From the moment we got there and arrived too early to when we left a couple of hours later and they helped us down the stairs to the excellent on site car parking everyone in the pub were so helpful friendly and eager to please - it makes for such an enjoyable day - thank you.

After visiting The Dolphin in Sydenham we were recommended to come here as it's the sister venue and we were not disappointed! Although it is different from the Dolphin you can see the same level of care applied. Good food, lovely pub and very nice staff. We will be back for more!

It's a rainy bank holiday Monday and I am so glad to have chosen this place. Great service, good food and wine and a cosy atmosphere. Lovely low lighting,a huge selection of books and bored games are in offer... Perfect for a rainy day or a catch up with friends.

I've always loved the Dartmouth arms in Forest Hill and it pains me to say that this place has seriously declined. The service is poor bordering rude, which was never the case. It's expensive and when the managers are not around the staff skive off and close early! At 10.30pm they are putting chairs on tables and sweeping around your feet! Not at all what I expect having spent some serious money in this place. The food is average and expensive. There's not enough well trained staff, when the restaurant is busy there's nobody serving at the bar. The owners need to pay more attention, as the managers that run this place don't seem to have any idea about customer service. There is lot more competition in Forest Hill these days and until I hear that they,ve sorted their act out, I shall be spending my money elsewhere.

I live locally and eat here every now and again. My last two visits have been pretty bad. The first involved a Sunday roast where the roasted veg were still rock hard and the second involved a huge dry schnitzel and a pile of school dinner like mash. This is not a cheap place to eat and to be honest I'd expect better food than this in a Wetherspoon pub for half the price or less. Been using the Dartmouth Arms since it first gastro'd around 2004. In the last couple of years things have been getting gradually worse on the service side. There are one or two bar staff who've been there for a while and are always cheerful, helpful & friendly (you know who you are). However some of the staff are unknowledgeable, unfriendly, unhelpful and just not interested. The job does require some customer contact from time to time, it's also a bonus if you have some idea what products you're selling and how to go about it in a customer focused way. There are now other options in FH where once there weren't. The DA needs to get it act together quick.

Popped in for an ale on bank holiday Monday. Barman told us with attitude to "Sit wherever you like". Member of staff Olga promptly came over to our table and rudely told us to "Stop laughing, people are finishing their dinner you know". Politely asked if she would like us to move, she said no. She then stood behind the bar and could be seen and heard slagging us off to the barman. Feeling very uncomfortable we moved to the front of the pub, and as we passed her she commented loudly and sarcastically "Have fun". So unnecessarily rude! We will never go back.

As it's my local I want this place to be great, but it is just OK. The dining area is well presented and the food has always been tasty, but the service is poor. It just has the feel of a place that has stopped trying. Nothing is really wrong, but you leave feeling underwhelmed. We were overcharged for two items and when my stepfather asked for a "large" ice cream with a smile the waitress simply added a ball and doubled the price without saying anything. How much would it really have cost to indulge him.I've been here three times now and will be giving it a break for a few months before trying again.

This bar has been a favourite of mine for some years but recently the food and service has started to really decline. On a Sunday it can take for ever to place an order in the restaurant and you often have to go back through to the bar just to get a drink, basically service yourself. There is more and more competition emerging in the area and this place is going to start losing customers very soon. The last time we went was on a Sunday and several people were complaining about the food and service. Don't loose your loyal customers, just pay for extra staff.

Only been here a couple of times but worth the hop on the overground from home. Good guest ales and service is decent. Its nice and cosy, yet to try food but menu looks good although a little heavy for my tastes.

This is one of our best local pubs, handily located very near Forest Hill Station. Very nice, unpretentious food, interesting selection of draught beers (including local ales). Ambiance and decor are a successful blend of traditional (it's a fairly historic building) and modern. Staff very helpful in my experience. It's deservedly popular.

Ordered caramelised onion tart.was swimming in a caramel like sticky sauce that it had been doused in, it was so sweet- think treacle tart- it was inedible. No refund despite not eating it- basically £16 for a salad. Awful meal awful service.

I believe the place is called Madeleine`s (they gave me a card with this name). I had a brioche and a coffee; they were both below average. You would aspect from those interdependent shops to have higher quality of food but unfortunately not. The food and beverages are better in chains like Pret-a-Manger or Starbucks
