An actual life saver of a restaurant ! A quiet lunch with a friend turned into a horror story when, in a rush to eat the magnificent food they served, I choked on a piece of meat and found myself unable to breathe. An attentive waiter rushed to my aid and performed an exemplary Heimlich manoeuvre. His prompt action undoubtedly saved my life and enabled me to enjoy the rest of the meal [ once I had my breath back! ] Wonderful food and professional service in a peaceful and comfortable restaurant . We will definitely return and thank you so much to the amazing man who rushed to help me.

We nearly drove past this place and only noticed it because the outside lights were on. We're so glad we turned around. My partner is Chinese and I've learned to cook maybe 30+ dishes. The food at New Dancing Dragon is excellent (as are the service and atmosphere). When the majority of the customers are Chinese, you're in good hands. The spicy boiled fish is as good as we've had anywhere, the cumin lamb was excellent. The price was about 2/3 of what we were anticipating. But that's not the reason to go. This is proper Chinese food, perfectly prepared and served by a team who couldn't be more friendly. We went quite early (5pm) and had to wait until 5:30pm as they were about to have their own meal. Not a problem and they were actually really quick to get food on the table. Great service as it was nearly empty at that point. By the time we left it was filling up fast. I suspect it gets really crowded later. It should do!

Shocking experience. After call ahead and requesting a table for two families (9 in total), we were told that it was fine, and reserved it by phone under our name. When we arrived at the restaurant the manager immediately started looking at the kids in a way as if he didn’t want them in the restaurant (very well behaved kids I should add) and said actually sorry the chefs are finishing soon we don’t have time to serve you. We had just driven 25 minutes with friends who were visiting us on Easter Sunday. It was clear he just didn’t want to seat two families, and when I pushed him on this he just said I’m sorry there has been a mistake. Honestly shocking service. Don’t waste your time here especially if you are a family, you’re not wanted.

First time @ this place, Great atmosphere, food, music with friendly service. You can tell the owner is very dedicated in making this restaurant something special, jazz was played combined with great food and a bonus of having a private carpark for customers. Highly recommended.

It was Mother’s Day they have two menus Available on the website, when finding in we realised these was different how ever our child only eats one thing and we asked if it was possible to get it made so he could eat while we was dining and this was unable to be done no request was able to be actioned we was told to drink our drinks and leave

Fried noodles with shredded pork are better Shrimp dumplings and siomai, salt and pepper frog okay Salt and pepper pork chop average I don’t recommend the barbecued pork buns. They are average and don’t have enough fillings. The portion size of Yangzhou fried rice is relatively small and average. The saliva chicken tastes like ice cream 25 pounds per person when dining for 5 people The price is relatively expensive Unlikely to help again

Been years since we last visited and came back down for a birthday meal, was looked after by the staff and the food was delicious! Glad to see some things in north Oxford haven't changed

Went for Chinease New Year. Good food, large portions. Very good service. A little on the expensive side.

The waitress was rude, not knowledgeable and was actively trying NOT to help. She surprised us with a min. per person, which she wasn't even sure if it's 25 or 30 pounds. When we asked her questions about the dishes (one of us was GF and one was vegan), she basically said nothing is GF and tried to run away as soon as she could. In the end, the vegan got a dish with egg and the GF got steamed flavorless vegetables. After we requested, they tried to add some sauce to the steamed vegetables, which only made them worse.

Great food! Really enjoyed... but booking is a challenge. On their website, they don't have a booking system, and when you send a message it bounces back... and then they don't answer the phone!

Before coming here to eat, someone said this was the best Chinese restaurant in Oxford, but I was skeptical. Simply make a note. In terms of decoration, this is indeed one of the most beautiful Chinese restaurants I have seen in the UK. The service is also very good. Roast duck in open oven: The duck is very fat and the skin is very crispy. Occasionally a piece of meat was a little salty, but overall it was good. Black pepper beef with broccoli: Very well seasoned, not spicy but very flavorful, not salty and bland like some Cantonese restaurants. Fried conch slices: Very tasty but not impressive. Mushroom and cabbage sum: The taste, texture and seasoning are very good. Whether it is worth the price of 17 pounds is a matter of opinion. Braised pork with pickled vegetables: a shocking turn of events. First of all, the presentation does not look like "buttoned" meat, and secondly, the meat is cut so thickly that everyone at the table was stunned. But in fact, both of them are okay. The main seasoning is salty... 31 per person, overall a pleasant experience. Come back when you have the chance to explore other dishes.

I went to the New Dancing Dragon for dinner on a Sunday evening. The food was quite good, except for the egg fried rice which was a bit lacking. However, in every piece of fish, in every drop of aloe Vera water, in every duck, excellence was embedded into the scrumdiddlyumptious food. Service was also good, nothing special but nothing wrong with it.

Excellent Chinese restaurant, very good service. Recommend lamb with spring onion, shredded chicken rice and chinese tea!

A little bit expensive but the refurbishment looks great and the atmosphere is also good. Not sure if it changed the service fee and if it is voluntary to pay the service fee.

We visited here on my son's birthday and had a family celebration. The service was excellent and very accommodating, and the food was delicious. Would definitely come again.

A birthday meal for partner & and family. Very helpful staff. Very organised restaurant. Food was amazing. Fresh, plentiful & we bought loads home! Took a cake up earlier on the day and this was bought out at the end of the meal with the staff singing happy birthday. Would love to return.

Our favourite Chinese in Oxford. Lovely decor, delicious food and they always find a table for us if we walk in.

It's the first time for me with friends to visit this restaurant. The welcoming service was horrible, not even a smile from the reception and the one who took orders. We ordered four dishes, only the roast duck was good the rest were small in portion and one was salty. The waitress asked if we needed to take away the leftover while we were still chatting. She kept on checking our table, seemed she wanted us to leave. It was not full, many empty tables. Not long, she put a bill on the table but we didn't ask for. We four hadn't meet up for years, our chat wasn't over. Anyway, we paid and left. On the whole all front staff was without sincere approach, atmosphere wasn't warm without smile, the food wasn't delicious and the cost especially dim sum was high comparative with London's. No more again!

Food was delicious with “wok hei”. Can compare to Hong Kong local eateries. Spacious seating with clean and stylish interior. Staff were friendly and proactive. Must come again!

We come often with family and as a couple and Colin always really good to us and gives excellent service, definitely one of the reasons we come back everytime. Colin is a one of if not the best waiter and we love coming back to see him and for the food!!

This restaurant is a classy establishment with tasteful decor and waiters and waitresses posted all around, making it very easy to flag someone when you need anything. There are lots of large tables for seating groups, so I think this is perfect for work dinners or birthday or large family dinners. The menu is extensive and includes foods I've never seen before or don't come across often, including frog leg dishes and grilled squid (as opposed to your typical fried calamari). There are also your typical Chinese dishes such as dim sum, roast duck, etc. if you're feeling less adventurous. I had the crispy wantons and Malaysian frog leg hotpot. The wantons were in the shape of a wrapped candy with the filling in the middle, which I found very clever and creative. I appreciate that they provide both a fork and chopsticks, so there's not the embarrassment of asking for a fork if you can't use chopsticks. I know a few people who get embarrassed about asking for a fork and so avoid East Asian restaurants, so this place would be perfect for them. The portions are very generous - I arrived very hungry, but was already stuffed after eating the appetizer and a third of the hot pot. I wish I'd had room for dessert, but alas, I'll have to wait till next time. I love that I was never rushed, and they let me sit as long as I wished after paying the bill. The food comes out fast and the place has a calm, gentle ambience while being well-lit via skylights. Lovely atmosphere, but is kid-friendly. Vegetarian options are labeled on the menu, and the music is just the right volume. I will absolutely be coming again.

Best Chinese with tasted in years we were a group of 11 who had numerous dishes every single one of them was tasty such brilliant value for money. We all were very impressed...10/10

Dancing dragon is a big restaurant. Good place for big groups, we we're celebrations, birthday party. Chinese food was great. And a great selection of drinks for all of us. The dancing dragon staff were Excellent they could not do anything more for us. Thank you for a great night.

The food was fairly decent, but the service was absolutely terrible, bad attitudes, stares and not allowing everything, not even the cake for our friend's birthday. The drinks were very very overpriced and i couldn't even bring my own water and water inside the restaurant was 5£ a cup which was so overpriced, if you want good food visit there but do not bring drinks.

Dear New dancing Dragon Bar Restaurant, I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the experience my family and I had at your restaurant today. Despite being understanding of the need for a peaceful dining environment, the treatment we received was both insensitive and distressing. My autistic child, who finds comfort in expressing himself through singing, was asked to be quiet during our lunch. I attempted to explain the situation to the staff, particularly to the manager, but unfortunately, there was a lack of understanding and empathy. I believe that every customer, regardless of their unique needs, deserves respect and consideration. The incident not only left me frustrated but also deeply disappointed in the customer service provided. I expected better from a place that prides itself on hospitality. I urge you to educate your staff on handling diverse customer needs and to foster an environment that is inclusive and accommodating. No family should feel unwelcome or singled out for circumstances beyond their control. Had yet another wonderful meal here. My mum and I came for a nice dinner and as ever haven't been disappointed. The squid with garlic and chilli is by far the best one I ever had. The slices are big, juicy and soft. The balance of chilli and garlic is perfect. The Mongolian beef is my favourite dish by far The staff could be a bit more attentive but I think it is a cultural thing

Such a great place to dine! We go here quite often and have had no issues. The food is good and service aswell! Colin is fabulous he always looks after us and is a really great server and assest to their team! What a great place!!

We visited the restaurant for dinner last night. The food was really delicious and the restaurant has a nice ambience however the service ruined our experience totally! From the moment we sat down we were made feel really uncomfortable by being rushed to order. We did not get time to look at the menu properly and the waiter was pointing at his watch saying something I was not able to understand. Then when we finished the waitress was so desperate to clear our table quickly that she spilled my wine and did not even bother to apologize or top it up and simply walked away. We were appaled by their attitude. I cannot remember when I experienced such a bad service.

The food was great, very tasty. The restaurant looks very nice inside. The service ruined it all. Rush with order, with food and bill. The attitude of the waitress made us uncomfortable. With proper service easy 4 or 5 stars.

We had a nice dinner at New Dancing Dragon restaurant. The food was tasty with a gentle mix of different flavours. The restaurant has got a nice atmosphere with low lights. However, the feeling of rush is generated to you by the fact you have got a limited amount of time to sit in (2 hours) and the way the service treats you. As soon as you get your seat, you will be asked to order your drinks. We did not even have the chance to view the drinks menu. In the end, you will get the bill just a few minutes after finishing your food, without even asking. That was like a sign they want you to leave.

Good food at reasonable prices for Oxford

The restaurant looks beautiful from the outside and has an inviting interior. Initial impressions were good as it was busy (and had lots of Chinese guests which I took as a sign the food would be good) which was very encouraging on a Tuesday night. The initial drinks service was incredibly slow. I had to request drinks three times as we were well into our starters before they arrived. The servers ranged from unfriendly, to rude and seemed to give certain tables preferential treatment. The weak customer service made it a slightly uncomfortable experience and it was hard work getting more drinks, sauces, the table cleared etc. The food itself (and I eat in a lot of Chinese restaurants) ranged from below average or very poor. The barbecue ribs were fatty and disgusting in a horrible sauce and the crab and sweetcorn soup was scalding hot, bland and contained very little crab or sweetcorn. The rice was clumpy and overcooked and the sweet and sour pork really poor… huge clumps of fatty pork… I actually had to spit some of it out and left most of it. Very disappointing as had high hopes. We will not be returning and will be recommending that friends and family give it a miss.

Went for my birthday meal with a bunch of friends. The place looks amazing but that’s about the only good to come from it, the staff were incredibly rude to my friend being blunt, dismissive and walking off mid conversation. Food is quite expensive so I expect some decent quality but no, first off my usual Chinese dish they didn’t have which is fine it happens, found something I liked on “Plate dishes” and they told me that was only for lunch. The menu doesn’t say anything about it having to be lunch or dinner and if that’s the case then why not have separate menus to avoid confusion? Afterwards I ordered the crispy shredded beef, bbq ribs and egg fried rice. The running joke of the night was us calling my crispy shredded beef instead crispy shredded crisps because there was absolutely no beef inside and been fried for way too long felt like I was eating twiglets! The ribs were cooked well but the bbq sauce was bland and not sweet at all. Great news though the dogs at home had a good treat when we finished as we brought them all the ribs due to no one finishing more then 1 each and we ordered 4 portions. Sad really. Was so excited to come here and they let me down bad on my birthday. P.s parking is horrible too, I recommend finding somewhere to park and walking.

Servers are rude and grumpy. I have eaten at this restaurant loads of times already. The food is delicious, but the waiters do not speak good English, and they are very impatient and rude. When visiting with an allergic guest, they were pissed when asked what could be prepared without contamination. Out of their incredibly long menu, just one dish has been signaled as safe. Unfortunately, the dish itself was not very good. They made my guest uncomfortable, and he felt unwelcomed in the restaurant.

We visited the New Dancing Dragon on Sunday 24/07/22. We were recommended the restaurant by a friend, who said the booking was not likely to be necessary as it was a reasonably large restaurant and we weren't planning to arrive at a peak time. We arrived at 16:00 to be told that the kitchen was not open until 17:30. This information was not shown on their restaurant, google maps, or even their signs outside the restaurant. Given that there were no other restaurants nearby, we decided to wait until the kitchen opened and sat with drinks. The table service was friendly albeit sometimes blunt by some servers. The food was delicious. For five of us, we ordered five main dishes, two portions of rice, and two portions of noodles to share. As their portion size was very generous, we had a lot of food left over, and I told it home in a box for lunch the next day. I'd recommend ordering 3-4 main dishes for five people. We notice that they have customer parking behind the premises. Overall, it was a good experience and reasonably priced. My big critique was that the kitchen opening times are not clearly displayed anywhere. 3/5 stars.

I booked a table and there was anyway a terrible queue. Someone has gone for waiting too much. The allergens was not indicated . I'm allergic at milk and they said me that there was JUST ONE dish safe for me (in 7 pages of menù). I took that, and it was not different from hospital food. The waitress was also annoyed about a simple request: pay attention to contamination for allergens. Worst service ever. Never more

They say that a clientele indigenous to the style of food is a good sign and if this restaurant is anything to go by that is true. There are of course lots of Chinese people in Oxford it being a university town and on the night of our visit at least 50% of the customers were Chinese which added to the ambience of the place. As some others have said, the service did seem a bit rushed but the food was absolutely fantastic - probably the best Chinese/ Cantonese We have ever had. I think the food is not toned down to the English palette as much as your average Chinese restaurant which is a good thing. I can whole heartedly recommend this restaurant without hesitation

Top choice for what seems to be a fully authentic experience. Sadly, there appears to be a complete disregard for dietary requirements despite having a whole A4 page at the front of the menu listing allergens notice. They were not able to offer anything beyond steamed rice and steamed vegetables, with no oil salt chilli or ginger, so just no attempts to make these vaguely more palatable. To top it all off, it was suggested I bring my own gluten free soy sauce next time. Considering that Xi'An down the road are able to accommodate dietary restrictions and make a variety of courses gluten free and vegan, in 2023 and in Oxford city centre this doesn't seem an unreasonable request. Shame..

Found this place on Google and what a find! Car park is of average size and can involve shuffling of cars due to double parking, but definitely worth the trouble as the food is amazing. Very popular with the local Chinese community which is always a good sign and it certainly didn't disappoint. A very wide menu with very attentive staff, quick ordering of food and drinks and very little waiting time for food to arrive. One of the best Chinese restaurants I've visited. Large portions but takeaway plastic dishes available to take home the spare food, great idea.

Food was authentic (sicheun), tasty & packed with flavour. “Mouth watering chicken” & cumin lamb were a stand out. A real treat - but unsurprisingly given how good it was - was packed and quite loud inside. Great for a big group for dinner though

Having a birthday dinner with our family. The restaurant has a tastefully elegant décor. The food was truly delightful, with a special shout-out to the stir-fried clams in black bean sauce. We wholeheartedly recommend this place for a memorable meal.

We went there on a Tuesday evening 29th August 2023. We reserved a table for 7pm. We arrived on time and ordered our food. It took 45 mins to get the food, and then it came out in dribs and drabs. My Grandson who's birthday was the reason for the celebration, got his food last. The food was excellent, but the service was terrible. They then have the nerve to charge a 10% service charge. Will not be going back.

One of the best Chinese’s in Oxford!

Had dinner here a few weeks ago and enjoyed it very much! The restaurant is in the North of Oxford, in the Summertown neighborhood, and it’s nicely decorated, making for a comfy and relaxed atmosphere. When we went on a Sunday early evening, the restaurant was very busy and we had to reserve in advance. We ordered a mix of starters, including dumplings, spring rolls and crispy duck with pancakes. All were delicious but the duck stood out and was a highlight. For the main, I chose one of the Chef’s specials, namely stir fried beef in spicy Sichuan red oil. It has 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ on the menu, so is supposed to be quite spicy but it wasn’t overpoweringly hot, with still a nice kick to it. The portion sizes are big, so we took the leftovers for take-away. Good value for money as well and can only recommend.

An incredibly extensive menu, attentive and efficient service and wonderfully fresh and tasty food all contributed to a very strong experience, topped off by a good ambience for a mid-week evening and a good mix of nationalities represented in the customer base. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Had a takeaway collection from here, can say the people behind the bar are very friendly and welcoming. Had a quick pint of Tiger while I was waiting. Can honestly say I had the best crispy chilli beef & chicken schezuan I’ve ever had here. The egg fried rice could have done with some more MSG + soy sauce in. I’m normally a very harsh critique. Wish I ate in instead, as the restaurant looks great.

Most terrible food! Inedible! It was impossible to chew the duck dish. Very greasy. It was as if we were eating something from the bin!

Visited on a Monday night without a reservation. Was shown to a table immediately. The restaurant was very busy too. The menus has a good selection of dishes. My daughters Bulgarian boyfriend had never eaten Chinese food before so we each chose a dish chicken/prawn/veg with rice and crackers. Portions were plentiful between the three of us. All super fresh & hot, tasty too. Service was prompt with no fuss. I don’t eat out often but this meal was a treat. Reasonably priced. Will definitely recommend and add to my favourite restaurant list.

Food is not bad but service is absolutely poor…The waitress started asking us to order again and again right after we were seated. They even didn’t put the teapot on the table in a gentle manner. If you are looking for Chinese food, Sichuan Grand Oxford Branch is a good alternative; at least the service is much better. 食物还行，服务很差劲。我们刚坐下，服务员就催我们点餐，催了2次还是3次。上茶的时候，茶壶直接“哐当”放桌上。。。中餐的话，我觉得Sichuan Grand Oxford Branch/成都府牛津店不错，至少服务更好。

Delicious authentic Chinese food. Everything we ate was superb. Super friendly staff. Though they were extremely busy, they always had smiles on their faces. Great busy atmosphere. You know it’s a good place when you see so many Chinese people dining there 😉 Love love love 💕

食物很好吃，沙茶牛肉粉丝煲值得一试，氛围也很好，夏天坐在门口沙发休息很chill，服务员大多是很友好的，如果是粤语使用者也会尽量用普通话沟通。但点名一个短头发的老阿姨服务员吧，来过几次了她对粤语和普通话使用者的态度是相当双标。第一次我和香港朋友来吃，讲粤语，此服务员就态度殷勤，“我是港人”并对其他同事作不屑状；这一次由于订的位置光线有点不好，决定换一桌光线好的（在人根本不多的情况下），此服务员便翻白眼不耐烦状，因为这一点我们最后选择不付服务费。结账时向柜台说明这一点，负责结账的还是此老阿姨，她本来已经开始打计算器，一听不付服务费放下计算器就走人了，非常好笑。 Nice food and nice environment, the attitude of waiters is friendly. However there’s one specific waitress who uses double standards towards Cantonese and mandarin speakers. When we wanted to change our seats because we’re arranged to sit in a corner which is a bit dark, the waitress rolled her eyes at us and appears very impatient. Very rude.

Great place to do some photography. They were quite disorganised despite us having a reservation. Had to stand around without being attended to for quite some while.I just felt for the price the service could have been better, and they could have made some they could have tailored my dish according to what I wanted

First time trying this restaurant and it was okay I guess. The service wasn't that great if I'm being honest. Sat down and waited for at least 20 minutes before someone came to take our order. The price of the menu wasn't too bad either so you won't break the bank when you come here. Would I come back here again? I'd have to think about it for sometime.

Never been to such a terrible establishment in my life , the service was the worst of all and I have eaten in third world country’s , the food was cold I found hair in my meal atleast 5 times I really want the trading standers to have a view into this as this establishment cannot continue I am heading to A&E right now for food poising

Excellent food and service. Young man behind the bar was an absolute treat!! Arrived without reservation on Saturday, ordered drinks at the bar and we're seated within 15 mins. Duck/pancakes, broccoli in garlic, lamb, beef, prawns, noodles etc all very tasty. Would go again when in the area

Very nice restaurant, good atmosphere. They had good service although at times it was difficult to get the waiters attention but other than that I thought the overall experience was good. I found that it wasn’t expensive and very affordable.

The staff is rude and they misbehave with customers. They criticise the customers in chinese ( so that non-chinese customers don’t understand wat they are saying). They literally extort tips from customers despite clearly mentioning that the customer is not interested in paying a tip after their misbehaviour. Food is average at best.

The staff is rude and they misbehave with customers. They criticise the customers in Chinese so that the non-Chinese customers cannot understand what they are saying. My Chinese friend told me that they were criticising me in Chinese. They literally extort tips from the customers. Food is very average at best.

Was studying in University of Oxford, this is one of the top Chinese restaurant. Highly recommend roast duck and lobster noodle

Delicious food. Had the 1/4th duck for starters. Incredible. Lemon chicken was tasty (little artificial but I liked it). Seaweed soup was great. Tofu in bean sauce also very delicious. The staff is very attentive, sometimes a bit too quick/fast but better then too slow or inattentive. All food was at perfect eating temperature at the table. Small delays between dishes were totally acceptable because the place was so busy (Which I love & is a good sign that lots of fellow eaters appreciate this place). All in all 5 stars!

Very traditional premium Chinese food, crispy duck and seefood such as crab and lobster is one of the must have meal, price means better food and sevice, this place is worth every penny that spent, only think about this place that need attention is the parking space, as many people drive more than a hour forthe taste.

Used to be better when it was a buffet. Not great if you have allergies. Still ok food though, but better Asian places in Oxford now.

A great Chinese restaurant in the centre of Summertown. The dish is tasty (might be a bit on the salty side) and in generous portion. Booking is highly recommended, but we just walked in on a Tuesday evening and got a table for two. A bit pricey (£40 per person) but we ordered quite a lot for two (4 dishes) and ended up taking away half. Will visit again and with a bigger group.
