Whilst a lovely little place with the perfect ideas and most wonderful ice cream, the reality lets it down which feels a real shame. Maybe it's because it's winter? But there are some little things that would make a huge difference to the experience. Ice cream is great. Rest of the food is not. Very overcooked and thrown together. I didn't get a good vibe about the general staff morale here though so may have something to do with it. For one, the front of house staff were miserable. Whilst polite, there was a strange atmosphere. One member of staff though was particularly patronising when asking about prices, explaining the cost of living crisis and everything going up etc. That's fine and understandable but the prices she was saying still didn't match the overall price she was charging. The chef came out at one point and ferneleys, please invest in new chef whites for your staff. The under cover play area is lovely, but just not compatible with the current weather which put a bit of a dampner on the visit. Water dripping through the ceilings into our coffees and onto our things. All toys wet/damp/ some with mould growing. Very smelly which was a shame. Normally a lovely place in the summer but I don't think we will come again in the winter months.

Such a relaxed environment to bring the kids to. Very clean, friendly and so much choice on the menu, in fact we were spoilt for choice. I had the vegetarian quiche which was served with chips and a side salad. The miniature golf is good value and play barn is great for toddlers. Lots of space to seat both indoor and out. Definitely family friendly, pet friendly and inclusive. A lovely assortment of take home ice cream flavours and an excellent selection of home made chutneys nd sauces as well as souvenirs and gifts. I'd definitely recommend Fernleys for a family day out.

My children had an inset day so took it as an opportunity to visit. It was nice and quiet during the week. Children (5&6) loved the mini golf and the climbing frame. There was a barn with toys but this is very much aimed at babies and toddlers. Absolutely loved the ice cream - best we've had! Will definitely be back and the cows look well cared for. Staff super friendly as well.

Probably not fair to judge, but the day we visited there was an event on in the neighbourhood field, which made the cafe very busy. We only stopped for an icecream. It took a long time to be served and there were people everywhere plus a lot of very muddy floors. The toilets were incredibly muddy too!!! However the range of icecream flavours was amazing and what we had was delicious!!!

I ordered two lunches, a chicken, pesto and mozzarella panini and a chicken breast burger. The panini was not the one I ordered, it had no chicken! The chicken breast burger came out cold and dry!! The original panini order came with coleslaw, however the panini that came out was without coleslaw. There then seemed to be a discussion as to whether my wife could have some coleslaw. When I informed the staff that my burger was cold, I was told “I don’t know why, it is freshly cooked on the griddle.” I therefore did not eat my burger but was not offered a refund, just a sorry!

We usually indulge in some crazy golf when we're out and about and loved this course. It was a fine autumnal morning and as well as the fun farm-themed course, it was great to be surrounded by animals, including pigs and cows in nearby fields as we took on the holes. We were out in the fresh air and bonding as a family - it was nice to get the children off their phones and tablets. We loved the inventive greens and especially enjoyed the pun-tastic titles of each one - including 'Hey Ewe', 'Hole-ya-Horses', 'Legend-dairy' and Ferneley's Fairway. Having completed the course (with mum and dad finishing joint first), we happily left, stopping off at the cafe before we left.

Visited today with family 👪 💕 was a great new find!!! Kids area, sand pit and football pitch were great as you can see from outside seating area, all very clean. There's also a fab play barn. Ordered food and drinks quite pricy but a nice treat. If you eat outside be careful there's loaadddss of wasps!!!! Crazy golf is good but bit pricey but goes without saying really. Loved the fact you could use the milk bottle machine. Couldn't comment on toilets. Customer service that I revieved was great!!!

Visited today and was unbelievably disappointed. The service was so slow, taking 1 hour and 10 minutes for 2 paninis & asked where the food was to receive a very blunt “we’re busy” response. Over an hour for 2 panins is not acceptable! No apology or offer of a drink whilst we waited with a hungry child! The toilets are vile! hairs, urine all round the seat & floor, clearly haven’t been cleaned for a long time and the smell is obscene. Very disappointed with this place and will not recommend or be returning!

I visited with my friend, her baby and my dog and it was both child and dog friendly :) we ordered a scoop of icecream in a pot for the dog! For me I ordered 2 scoops on a waffle and was a bit disappointed with the presentation as usually you get it with whipped cream a ferneleys wafer and sauce but did not get offered any of these as extras (would pay extra) but in the past they came with and wasn’t made aware. The ice cream was lush (best around) I had salted caramel and moobueno (the best icecream I’ve ever had)!! Already planned to come back next weekend. Also, super special seeing the cows are obviously well looked after and looked happy.

We met some friends here for lunch having never visited before despite being local. Lunch was good and staff very friendly. The ice cream is amazing! Crazy golf for kids and adults and plenty to do for little people. Good place to meet up and catch up with giving kids space to run around. Inside play barn for youngsters. Sandpit and climbing frame too. Would suit all ages.

The first thing you notice as you park your car are all the instructional signs - mainly telling you what you can't do. The second thing is the number of wasp traps. Much needed, as it turned out. But the strangest thing was the absence of parasols in the large outside seating area. On one of the hottest days of the year - the temperature was nudging 31 degrees - there was not a square inch of shade to be found. The parasols had been taken away - as another notice explained - for "health and safety" reasons. Apparently a small minority of guests had misused them in some way (the mind boggles) and so the majority were to be punished by being denied any shade whatsoever. This is crazy. There was an inside area apart from the cafe itself, but this was a polytunnel structure covered in dark plastic. The temperature inside was probably hotter than outside. With nowhere to escape the direct sun - and three young children to protect - we retreated to our car and finished our ice creams in air-conditioned comfort. So a very disappointing 20 mile round trip - we had hoped to use the play area and spend a bit of time having fun. The one plus - fresh, chilled milk dispensed into your own container. That was the only part of the visit we enjoyed.

Just had a fantastic light meal and yummy ice cream on the hottest day ever recorded in Britain! The best of it was that the cafe is air conditioned! Started off with a very tasty local beef cheese burger while my husband had an indulgent Maple bacon waffle with a large scoop of vanilla Ice cream. I then followed with double ice cream waffle cone of a scoop of coffee as well as a generous scoop of dark chocolate raspberry ripple. Divine! On not so hot days there is a lovely outside seating area with kids playground and a farm themed crazy golf not that it was the weather today! Highly recommend!

Had ice cream and drinks for the family. £20 for that. Ok , that can be expected when visiting a farm shop / ice cream barn. BUT. When you are in there , how on this Earth can you then charge for the adventure golf. £5.95 per adult , £3.95 for a junior / Child. So approx £20 for a quick game of mini adventure Golf. This , in my opinion is totally unacceptable. I dont know any farm shops in the country that expect you to shell out this kind of money to have a quick round of mini Golf after you have just helped the business out by spending another twenty odd quid on some ice cream. Drop the mini Golf prices , it’s totally out of order and I really can’t quite believe it. It’s Hill Top Farm for me any day of the week or weekend until you have a reality check and drop the fee for mini golf. Make it a family fun day out without ripping us off. We are here to support local business , and that works 2 ways. Better a returning customer than a non returner

Having sampled the ice-cream, I popped in to the café for the first time, and it was even better than I'd hoped. The café is spotlessly clean, including the loos. It's bright and spacious, with lots of comfy seating. There is lots of outdoor seating too, so it would be a good place to come on a summer's day. The view of the fields, full of cows, is lovely. There's a big play area for children, so it's definitely a family-friendly venue. It's also welcoming to dogs, and there is an exercise area set aside for them. All the staff are friendly - and the food arrived quickly. The menu is quite varied - good sized omelettes, soup, paninis and other sandwiches, freshly made thick chips. The choice of desserts is fabulous - cakes, pancakes, waffles, luxury chocolate, milk shakes, and ice-creams. You can take ice cream home in two different size cartons. It's all homemade - savoury and sweets. The café sources ingredients locally -and the milk comes from the cows you can watch munching grass while you eat. The menu is unfussy but not boring, and the emphasis seems to be on quality ingredients and freshness. They don't rush you, so it's a great place to visit with friends for a catch-up. Prices are excellent considering the quality. It's a little off the beaten path, but well worth going the extra mile beyond Melton Mowbray.

I discovered this ice-cream because the cafe owners ran a stall at the Melton Mowbray Choc Fest, where they had a sample of things you can get in their cafe. For only £2 we got a huge scoop in a cone - cone itself was very unusual, almost like a crsipy waffle - much better than your average cone. Good range of flavours - try the Honey Comb and also the salter caramel - both delish. Best of all it's pretty guilt free - except for the calories - because it's made locally on a small farm where they look after the animals themselves, rather than some big factory enterprise. The ice-cream was so good I'll be making my way to Leesthorpe asap to try out what else is on offer in the cafe.

When we asked about them we were bought out three cold breakfasts but not the large size we ordered then they took those to another table and we waited 15 more minutes before two cold single breakfasts came out again. Then two more came out after asking again so still missing half and no toast. Cold toast came after asking 3 times with no butter or condiments for it.

We were extremely pleasantly surprised by a great cafe area and excellent outside space with seating. I had the waffles with ice cream, both of which were exceptional, my husband had bakewell tart which also went down very well. The staff are pleasant and helpful and there are so many ice creams and sorbets to try as well as all the other great options to keep us coming back, not to mention they seem to be constantly developing new options! They also cater for gluten fee / lactose free etc.

Lovely place to visit with family. All the staff are very friendly. The owner remembered my baby sons name from a previous visit which was a nice personal touch.

Visited with my granddaughter and we loved the ice cream. Then went just past closing time and the staff were very accommodating and let us purchase a take out. The ice cream here is very special and I think it will do very well. Highly recommended

Went today with the family. Place is showing real potential. Ice creams we're terrific. Think they are building a kids play area which looks to be a great addition. Real passion is evidenced throughput. Will definitely be back again soon.

An ice cream cafe, near Melton Mowbray!! And not a pork pie in sight. This is a lovely place to stop off by car or bike. Just off the a A606 between Melton and Leesthorpe this is a hidden gem. Serves a wide range of homemade ice cream made form milk off the farm. Recommend the honeycomb crunch. You can also get crepes and an all day breakfast (served till midday on a sunday) Two coffees and two ice creams (two scoops) was £10.00.

Lovely place and would definitely recommend. Amazing tasty ice cream, reasonable prices and a little area for children. Also love that they warm the cups before serving hot drinks, a service that many cafe’s forget.

Home made fillings and lots of it. Great service and value for money. Go here not Subway for a proper sandwich. I hope it stays open this time

Our group of ladies were well treated ( one of us arrived very late and there was no fuss to make us order without her). In fact, service was excellent. We all ate different dishes and all enjoyed our meals. We now think this may also be the Christmas venue for our get- together!

We didn't have the opportunity to go to the pub before we moved to the village so we had no idea what to expect. Our first experience was fantastic! A lovely local pub with a great atmosphere. John and Kathy were so welcoming and made us feel like we had been coming here for years. With proper beers on tap, and probably the best fish and chips I have had in years we will be coming here every opportunity we get.
