The Crystal Inn in South Holland

Have been many time these past two years. Always treated politely and great food, reasonable prices and attentive staff. My preferred choice in the town.

Six of us visited for a meal, and agreed it was one of the best Chinese meals we had ever tasted! The staff were helpful and gave very good advice about amounts to order, and what to choose. A good value evening all round.

This is by far the best tasting Chinese around. It is all freshly cooked. The dishes are all presented nice and the portions are big enough for two. The atmosphere in the restaurant is great and nothing is ever too much trouble.

Went here for dinner with friends at the weekend. The food was absolutely delicious, hot and plentiful. The service was second to none. I would definitely recommend to all of my friends.

We are meeting to the area and we’re told worth a visit. What a great surprise, not rushed, not crammed in and very enjoyable. The menu is not extensive, that’s a positive as all good freshly cooked. It was tasty and good size portions. Plenty of staff, all polite and helpful. I will gladly return.

I have tried most the Chinese's in the area but always end up going back to crystal inn as the others don't come close. The takeaway is good but sitting in the restaurant always delivers a top notch Chinese. Definitely worth a visit 👍

A delicious meal enjoyed by all the family including two fussy children . The food was fresh and tasty and cooked to order so was hot when brought to the table. Staff were delightful and made us feel very welcome. Would definitely recommend 👌

I have used The Crystal Inn for many years. They have consistently served top quality food and backed that up with top quality service. The staff and delivery drivers are efficient and courteous. The ingredients are of a quality unmatched locally. In my opinion it’s the best Chinese food this side of the Great Wall, thanks guys. Jason.

We have used this restaurant for approx 30 years during which we have had many lovely celebratory family meals and takeaways. Unfortunately, the last two takeaways we have had, the last being this evening, have been such a disappointment, that regretably we won't be ordering a takeaway from them again. The food was cold, bland, dry and overcooked, which is such a shame

We have been using Crystal Inn for 25yrs & every meal we have had in the Restaurant have been extra special, mainly because of the staff & family members that look after you like we were family members. Now the Food, well every meal in the Restaurant or Takeaway has been absolutely top class, cannot fault anything, thankyou for being there.

Never been for a sit down here but its my favorite takeaway/delivery Chinese so I can only imagine its better for sit down. Best Chinese in town in my opinion

Only been in Spalding for a year and this was only our fourth visit (because it's the nearest to home). Yet again the food was dry, bland and almost cold (I waited in the shop, it wasn't delivered). Certainly won't be visiting again

Four of us visited on a Saturday night and had a great experience. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu, the food was great and varied. We were not rushed at any point and the food came out at a steady pace which allowed us to have a very relaxed evening.

Just had another excellent takeaway from Spaldings best Chinese......been having them from here for well over 20 years....never a bad one in all that time. Tremendously consistent, well done Crystal Inn.

Came here for my Dad’s 60th birthday. Although the food was tasty the portion sizes are pathetic. If you order of the set menu ( minimum 2 people ) you get a free dish of your choice with only comes into force when there is more than 4 people having the set menu, but the size of this free dish is the same size whether it’s 4 people eating or 20, which is very strange.Wouldn’t return.

We had a meal for my sons birthday and weren’t disappointed. Friendly staff, varied menu and we welcomed the air conditioning (it was the hottest day the UK has ever seen). The food arrived quickly and well presented. Not greasy like other local restaurants and not too salty either. We had starters and mains and all left full. We will definitely be using the restaurant again for takeaways and to eat in.

We visited the restaurant as a family of 4 and it was absolutely delicious! The food was fresh, of excellent quality and in great portion sizes and the service alongside was absolutely brilliant too. Our kids were fascinated by the Finger Bowl! Nothing was too much trouble and the lady took a genuine interest in speaking with our children, making them feel welcome in a restaurant of only other adults. Drinks were really reasonable as was the food and 100% worth the pricing. We had one of the Set Menu’s and it exceeded expectations. We would highly recommend if you’re ever in Spalding.

We asked for large pancake rolls as part of a takeaway, but were refused so we ordered normal spring rolls instead. They were pathetic, so small that there was almost nothing identifiable inside and were bone dry. The chicken balls were ok and plenty of them, but the rest of the dishes were nothing special at all. £30 up the wall to be honest. Only went here as reviews seemed so good. When you lay out what you have bought on the table you really see just how little you get for your cash. Thanks though, as we have finally decided to stop takeaways altogether now as it seems all about them and not about the customer anymore. Takeaways used to be so good in this country and decent value for money!

Food and Service as always very good BUT we were SO disappointed with the change of menu that had been advertised as the New Years Eve menu. We felt that the dishes they substituted were not as good and of lesser value. In effect we had The Classic Menu ( advertised on their website at half the price) and not the New Years Eve Special Menu that was advertised!! Fireworks though were particularly good this year.

My husband and I went for a meal at the Crystal Inn on Thursday evening. It was very quiet, only one other table was occupied, but we didn't mind that!

There were four of us last time and eight of us this time. The service didn't change though, friendly; attentive but not overpowering. We went for the classic set menu and received two extra main dishes because of our number. The food was excellent and the owners recommendation spot on. This restaurant was well worth the travelling from Peterborough for.

Just beautiful food. Everything was spot on. Not 1 thing could i find fault with. Freshly cooked with fresh ingredients. Cooked to perfection. Prices are good. Service was excellent. Hygiene spotless. I will be going again

Had a variety of meat, chicken and prawn dishes between the 3 of us. All were very tasty. Service was of good speed and very polite. Have been here many times but never reviewed before - always good!

Was recommended by Woodhouse Lodge Hotel and went there with 3 colleagues - menu choice was good - staff were very friendly. Said at weekends have more fresh seafood like Lobster, Razor Clams, Scallops etc - Their large prawns were excellent (the have a very good Cantonese chef). Service was good and quality of food was excellent. We know a lot of Chinese Restaurants and The Chrystal Inn is one of the better Chinese Restaurants. Not pushy at the end of the evening to get you to leave which is a very big Plus. Will definitely be returning and looking forward to sampling their other seafood.

Found this gem of a place whilst staying overnight in Spalding on way down to the Norfolk Broads. Absolutely brilliant, fabulous food. Highly recommend, just wish it was nearer to were we live

Meals are served upstairs and toilets are downstairs. Very friendly and cannot do more for you. Lovely food too.

We have not visited the Crystal Inn for at least 10 years. It is still run by the same family, who are fantastic very efficient and friendly. The food was also very good, the sea bass in particular was amazing.

First time I’ve Been here. Food was fantastic and delicious. Owner I believe to be called Karen, was fantastic and very accommodating lovely lady. Will definitely return

I had been here a few years ago and really keen to go back , being in the area on my own for business I checked which days they were open on the train up and keenly booked for Monday evening , I was greeted by Karen who made me feel most welcome we chatted most of the evening about different things and I had the soft shell crab , sweet corn soup followed by seafood in a clay pot. It was the nicest Chinese I have ever had and so fresh and crisp. I was made to feel so welcome which is brilliant when on your own and made an evening of it rather then usually can’t wait to get in and out of places as feel like Billy no mates!! The owner was also fabulous and friendly :-)

Always good food and superb service, a regular for us, family or just as a couple, friendly waitresses, never disappointed here.

Best Chinese in Spalding whether it’s take out or sit down. The staff are always friendly, address you by name and letting you sort your own menu is no problem either as we like to share our choices.

Arrived 6:30, almost empty restaurant it all looked promising but quickly turned. The food was ok but very very slow. The owner said after the meal ‘everywhere in Spalding is like this on a Saturday’ which isn’t an excuse you wish to hear after waiting 2 hrs (with no word from staff to explain the issue or offers of drinks while we wait) for your main.

Ordered takeaway at 6pm, told it would be ready for 7.15pm arrived to collect it at 7.15, was not ready until 7.50. When arrived home 2 dishes were missing called to advise and was informed they were going to deliver urgently, I was informed I could not cancel as driver was on his way, then phone was put down on me. 10 mins later called again to be informed the missing dishes were on the way, and phone was put down on me! Called back & was told the driver had not left, i asked for my money back which they agreed to bring around personally. It’s now 9.15 we have no meal or refund. !!!

Yet again another amazing meal at The Crystal Inn, ate in for a meal this time but just as good...

I have to say I don't normally do reviews, but having read the recent review by Carl M I had to write this one. We have used the Crystal Inn for many years, always with a good experience, and happened across the negative review when we were booking for last Wednesday. We went as a party of seven with some trepidation, wondering if it had changed, but I wonder in fact if the previous reviewer is talking about a different restaurant! The service and welcome was as warm and efficient as ever, and we were made to feel like valued customers. The meal itself was excellent, and good value. We regularly eat out both in Lincolnshire and London, and are not easy to impress, but the Crystal Inn ticks all the boxes. I would say that this is not a restaurant for a quick meal but one to enjoy for the evening, with a reasonable gap between courses, and time to enjoy yourself.

Waited forever for our dinner all wait wrong from the start with the drinks order ask for Smirnoff ice that was on the menu to be told 40 mins later they didn't have after several requests as to were our drinks where? We were a group of 8 we was all served at different times and one couple didn't get any thing at all , !!! When we refused to pay we was threatened with the police. To which I replied better call them as one of us as been robbed tonight. Do your self a favor go elsewhere.

A quirky little venue tucked away in a corner of this sleepy village. The family who run the restaurant do it with the upmost attention to customer service almost knowing all of the guests by name, that's right dine once and they remember, that personal touch that truly adds to the fine culinary dishes produced by the kitchen staff. Chinese food is Chinese food I hear you thinking, however the Crystal Inn is Chinese food with a difference! Hats off to Karen and her family.....

Authentic Chinese meal served in pleasant atmosphere.The restaurant is not disable accessible. The takeaway is good but not to the high standard of the restaurant. Not cheap but good.

We booked this for a special night out for a birthday and wish we hadn't. When we arrived we were treated as if we were an intrusion - the staff were rude and sarcastic purely because one of our party couldn't make it. We still dropped over £200 on the place (despite wanting to walk out we couldn't because we couldn't have booked anywhere else) the service was shocking. Food forgotten, drinks forgotten, despite being asked for 3 times, and worst of all, rudeness from staff when we had to remind them.Do yourself a favour - find somewhere else. The whole evening was ruined because of the staff at this place. the building is scruffy and run-down. and to top it all - the food was terrible!!!

This restaurant is a wonderful place. It deals mostly with takeaway food but has a lovely dining space upstairs. It has a homely feel and the friendly staff do their best to make you feel relaxed and at home. The food is always so tasty and reasonably priced. If you get an opportunity this is definitely a place to try. You won't regret it.

new to the area and just visiting relatives, thought we would have a nice meal early evening to finish aa very busy day, called early evening, for 3 dishes and a bag of prawn crackers it was a touch pricey just over £26, however good reviews so expected something authentic and fresh and full of flavour.ordering easy, lady was a touch abrupt on the phone as I was paying with a card for a home delivery passed me over to a gentleman who took details (no pleases or thank you's) from either?after waiting at home for an hour and a half I called to see when the food would be delivered as my mother in law was hungry and so was my husband, it was now 8.30pm?!?the lady answered and I enquired how long our food would be, I was told that they were just going to cook it! I said I ordered over and hour and a half ago to which the lady responded "you can cancel if you want"no apology, no explanation NOTHINGI explained that we were hungry and didn't expect to be waiting this length of time, I was not rude at all in any way shape or form, the lady repeated herself, I said how much longer will it be she said half an hour and hung up?!?!now I have travelled all over the UK and abroad and honestly I can say I have never encountered this flippant (I don't need your business attitude ever)the food arrived within the half an hour (2 hours waiting time in total) and my goodness this was terriblethe special fried rice had not one prawn in it, no visible meat and all rice dishes were extremely dry (warmed up previously cooked and a touch powdery kind of dry) this was a less than good standard meal and typically not fresh produce and certainly not fresh made to order, tinned sweetened ginger? really? completely tasteless and bland - all went in the bin and a light bite of toast was its replacement.prawn crackers were tasteless also and greasy.we can honestly say that this is not only a poor standard of food but poor service, they need to up their game and produce in this day and age.people may have put the best Chinese in Spalding, I have had better at a local Chinese buffet and paid less than half the priceif people ask why I didn't call and demand money back etc, just think of the lackadaisical attitude I had already received and it wasn't about the money we would pay whatever asked for , providing the food was goodwould we go again? certainly not and wouldn't recommend

We ate here tonight for our Daughters Birthday and it was very good. The actual restaurant is upstairs and fills the whole of the top floor with plenty of table room. We had to wait for quite sometime for our drink and each course took along time to arrive but when they did there were excellent. We ordered the Traditional set meal which started with a platter of spring rolls, spare ribs and prawn toasts, the ribs were lovely. The second course of crispy duck pancakes was delicious and was followed by beef,,sweet and sour sauce and an additional choice of dish. The service was great with really lovely staff, would highly recommend for a good meal out.

My title for this review does the Crystal Inn a disservice because, while i think it is the best Chinese food in Spalding, it is in reality the best for some miles around. The welcome is warm, we were greeted as soon as we walked in and shown upstairs to a table in the first room - they were expecting a large party and rightly decided that our somewhat elderly party would prefer to be separated from pre-Christmas revellers. We made known our desire for dishes with the least sugar to accommodate our elderly diabetic relative and were advised of the menu choices that could be made without sugary sauces - excellent, and all done in a low key way that made said relative feel very special. Crispy duck was lovely with plenty of pancakes and sauce and our mains including the low sugar special chicken and cashew nuts were delicious. Portions were generous, overall an excellent and very good value meal.

My family and I went for a meal just before Xmas, as usual the food was amazing although the visit was let down by the temperature in the restaurant. They did try to warm the place up although it was to little to late.

Excellent food, lovely staff,reasonable price if this restaurant find good location and good decorations like some other restaurant it would be my one of the best place to go (just saying)

Many years ago the crystal inn in Spalding was new and fresh, buzzing atmosphere in the upstairs restaurant . Time has taken its toll I am sorry to say ! Ok it still does a decent job : but the whole service has gone down hill slowly over the years . I can't say I don't frequent the place because I do, but once upon a time it would be top of the list / now it's certainly a mid table establishment .

We've had 3 takeaways from the Crystal Inn. The first, about 6 months ago, was superb - really full of flavour. The 2nd (the same set menu) about 3 months ago was only average. The latest was positively mediocre - bland and completely lacking the dynamism of flavour of the first meal we purchased.On reflection, the Crystal Inn is probably no worse than any other Chinese in Spalding, but we no longer consider it the best - which is a shame.

Family meal with my husband and son, we opted for the deluxe set menu, the mixed platter starter was tasty and plentiful especially the ribs which were delicious, that was followed by crispy duck pancakes. The mains were sizzling beef and king prawns in garlic and ginger. The beef melted in your mouth and the prawns were absolutely delicious. We were all stuffed, and enjoyed it immensely. The staff are friendly and the owners take the time to chat to customers, a very good dining experience m.

Been twice this week and both times the food has been great, service is friendly and just the right amount of time left before courses. Sometimes the eyes are bigger than the stomach! Would recommend, and will be going back.

Visited The Crystal Inn for a meal with a very important client.We arrived at 1815, as we entered the premises I could see the decor was old and needed revamping, we waited downstairs for 5mins before we were greeted and taken to our table upstairs.As we sat down there was only 1 other table of 6 people eating.We ordered our drinks and food.. My bottled beer came which was not even cold and the Diet Coke my client ordered was just a can dumped on the tableWith no ice..Our starters came our which were steamed dim sum, to be honest we have had better dim sum microwaved from Iceland, they were tasteless and lacked and dipping sauce..Then we waited and waited and waited and eventually after another 50mins and asking several times our second course came out which was half a Peking Duck, well I've seen more meat on a sparrow even tho it was tasty the lack of quantity was unbelievable and they tried to make the plate look moor full by leaving the bones on..So we quickly ate the duck as we were very hungry.My client went to the toilet and when he returned I was so embarrassed as he said he had never been in such a disgusting toilet in all his life.30 mins passed again and still our main courses had not arrived then the waitress came upto me and said they had run out of fillet steak!!! I replied don't you think you should of informed me about this over a hour ago when we placed our order!I reordered my main and she disappeared again seeing empty glasses and not even asking if we would like another drink!1hr passed since our second course and still no mains had arrived so I physically had to go down stairs and ask where they were as by this time my client had to leave only for her to say they were busy doing take always and they hadn't started cooking them yet!Well as you can imagine we weren't very happy and ended up leaving without any main course and still hungry.I was promised a phone call back by the owner but this never happened.Would never go back and would not recommend to anyone.

Matt suggested an Indian, but I wanted to watch my waistline, so we opted for Chinese instead. This is in a pretty part of the town on the banks of the River Welland. Our window overlooked the garden of the Ye Olde White Horse which was next door. It was mid-week and there was only one member of waiting staff on duty, but she was efficient. As soon as Matt walked in she exclaimed, 'Oh you left your coat here last time, here it is.' Matt responded that it was not his but she insisted, pointing to a table, 'You sat there'. He had only been once before and he and his friends sat at the opposite end of the restaurant. That set the scene for the service - efficient, straight to the point with no airs or graces. The menu was extensive, our hostess was pleased to advise and explain and in a nutshell it was an enjoyable evening with good good.

Went with party of eight on recommendation. Food was great, I had individual dishes as I'm a vegetarian and I left the chef to chose my food. I was not disappointed. The starter was fabulous, spring rolls, vegetables in batter and silken tofu in batter. Great wine and loads to eat.

This was a prebooked meal for quite a large group. One of the party had eaten here before and recommended it highly - we weren't disappointed. Service was fine, and they accommodated the fact that we had to eat quite quickly because some of the party were going to have to leave early. The food was really, really good - especially the scallops and steamed sea-bass.

We have used this restaurant many many times both for a takeaway and sit-in dinner. the food is always fantastic as are the staff.But recently we visited as a party of 6 - which I have never done before. We were severly disappointed with the quantity of food placed on our table.It has to be understood we didn't order anything unusual and we have had exactly the same meal with just two of us.This time we ordered a set menu but for 6 persons.The menu stated that if the order was for 4 persons we would get an extra dish free.To my mind if we order for 6 persons we should get 3 times the food we would get for 2 persons. Simple maths really!!Not so in this restaurant!!! We got barely enough food for 4 people - even with the extra dish. This was clearly noticeable when the crispy duck was presented and there was only 2 bones - there should have been three by my maths.We then asked for extra portions as we were still hungry - and were charged for them!So what more can I say.Don't whatever you do order a single meal for 6 or more persons. Order things individually and count the number of dishes you get. If you ask for 3 rice portions make sure you get them and don't be fobbed off with one supposedly larger dish - like we were.Very very disappointed with you Crystal Inn. It spoilt the evening for us.

I can only comment on the takeaway as I've not eaten in but we used to have takeaway from here regularly, however the last 2 takeaways we had were poor. The meat on the ribs we had was inedible due to being so tough, as was the meat in the chicken balls. Wont have takeaway from here again.

Far and away the best Chinese restaurant and takeaway in the Spalding area. Fast, friendly, tasty and good value. Give it a go.

I am struggling to understand was this place is so highly rated. There service was OK even though it was very busy. We had a the set menu, The Deluxe, and with a drink it worked out at £25 per head. The food just average, nothing special, nothing memorable. So at the price per head i was disappointing.The table and chair where both wobbly and the toilets where dirty. The overall standard of the decor was poor to be honest. I do not think this place would pass for anything above average in a city where there was more competition
