This pub is brilliant - the owners are so welcome and it has a great atmosphere. It is reasonably priced (we had a main meal for around £8 and a few drinks) and there is a good selection of food and drinks. It is everything a village pub should be and I’ll definitely be returning

The Cruwys is a great village pub in the heart of mid Devon. I've absolutely loved coming here since my parents moved to Pennymoor last year. The Exmoor Ale is a personal favourite, and I also really enjoy the traditional pub grub. The service is always excellent and all the staff are really friendly, chatty and attentive. The pub itself is beautifully maintained with a gorgeous, spacious garden and some charming dark wooden furnishings inside giving it an authentic and intimate feel. Paul and Carol are a credit to Pennymoor and their hard work and welcoming attitudes make the Cruwys a lovely place to visit. Would highly recommend!

I came here on Tuesday night and was instantly blown away by the warm, buzzing atmosphere. Paul and Carol were extremely friendly and the service was impeccable, as was the ale. I had never been to Pennymoor before, yet I could not have been made to feel more welcome. The decor inside is tasteful and full of character. We sat in the idyllic beer garden and enjoyed some delicious pints. We didn't eat but the food looked delicious and came highly recommended by other customers, many of whom were clearly regulars. The Cruwys Arms is absolute must for anyone visiting the area.

Always a friendly welcome here, both for us and our dog! If you decide to eat here, the portions are extremely generous. Lovely garden too.

Popped in for a pre dinner drinks but was tempted by the dish of the day Chicken Kari fancy name but aka a Chicken Madras and wow authentic and delicious. Well cooked Paul! I know as a curry addict Indian I know when it’s no ladida ice cream strength curry. Large portion too.

Stay clear of this pub! From the outside it looks idyllic , we entered the pub and were “ greeted” by a rather rude tattooed Irish man casually dressed in shorts and a grubby t-shirt. No covid precautions in place people were standing around. The man wasn’t wearing a mask and didn’t look like he had any intention of wearing one either. We were seated at a table that needed a good clean as it was sticky. Drinks are limited. No selections of good wine, just a choice of colour and that’s it. Think it is probably a locals pub as we “ outsiders” were not made to feel welcome. The grumpy barman bought are drinks over and made a sarcastic comment. He obviously thinks he was funny but we thought he was just a Wally to be honest. We were going to stay and eat but changed our mind. The look of the food coming out of the kitchen looked very bland and nothing exciting. The lady serving food didn’t look to happy either. We won’t be returning. Such a shame as this pub could be an absolute gem. Poor locals of cruwys morchard if that’s all they have to look forward to in their community 🤨

Gone downhill recently, I haven't been here for several months but it seems to have new landlord/landlady who are only interested in talking to their friends. Locals congregate at the bar and block access for other customers. Friendly atmosphere that used to pervade the bar room has gone. Customers appear to be an interuption to the barmaids social life.

I forgot to book a table for our Friday night meal, so just went for a drive and came across this lovely pub. We were warmly greeted and invited to taste the local ale, which was nice. It soon became well attended yet the service was swift. We ate Half a chicken and chips peas salad and fresh peas. I had Steak and Kidney pudding with Jacket potatoe, salad and peas. The food was hot and filling (reasonable prices ) and tasted great. Nice attentive staff and will return soon now we know where this little gem is.

Some months ago when I, as part of a party of coastal path walkers were returning from North Somerset, I rang from the car a pub I'd had in my sights for some time considerable time, the Cruwys Arms. I am a sort of collector of out of the way pubs. The landlord answered the phone, I asked him what time he opened up at, he said, 'Six o'clock.' it was then about ten minutes to five. He then asked me where I was ringing from, I said, 'Neari South Molton.' He then replied, 'Oh come on down, I'll open up for you.' We had never met, he didn't know who I was. He didn't know there were two cars containing seven hungry walkers.. Now, that's what I call a real landlord, a real, 'mine host.' It turned out that this 'real' landlord was running a real pub, with real pub food, with good prices and generous portions. Nothing fancy but good value and, plenty of choice. All seven of us ate there and ate well. We were all suitably impressed both by the food and the friendly ambience. We all agreed that the pub was a real find! It's small pub but an interesting pub, as I said, a pub for the pub collector; and well worthy of a visit. A word of warning, check the opening times if you plan a visit, I wouldn't like anyone to be disappointed by finding it closed, especially as, it is a bit out of the way but, don't let that put you off. If I was to sound ungrateful by suggesting an improvement to this considerate landlord, then it would be to light the log fire in the large open fireplace, it would make this welcoming pub even more welcoming than it already is. Bon appetite.

I am thrilled that you are getting back up and running. I've had so many relaxed and friendly hours in the cafe with friends that I am looking forward to more accompanied by a fab nut roast and side salads fit for a queen. Airy and plenty of space (unlike other cafes that cram as many in as they can) so it feels very Covid safe even without have to make big changes.

Only gave 1 as half isn't an option utterly disgusting, rude staff, food was below any kind of standard and cold when I complained felt like I was an inconvenience to the staff dirty and the whole experience was extremely unpleasant wouldn't be going their again

Very nice food, large portions. We only had a main and were full. We both had the fish and chips. I had a Camden stout and the misses had a hawkstone. Nice old pub, real fire, car park opposite. Takes cash or card

Booked an afternoon tea for my mums belated birthday present. All staff were friendly and helpful. The afternoon tea was absolutely amazing, such a variety of cakes and everything was fresh. It's definitely on my list for one of my favourite places for afternoon teas. Definitely get your value for money! Their breakfasts are good too. So lucky for this place to be on our doorstep!
