A lovely meal, the staff were all so friendly, nothing is too much trouble, food was good too, would love to see some specials available to keep the menu varied as some times need a change, otherwise all great, love the new refurbishment too, highly recommend

My friend and I came for lunch having looked at the menu on line and saw the 2 for £19 or 3 for £24 offer when we arrived we were given the ordinary menu, when I asked the lovely bar staff they knew nothing about this but happily looked it up on the web site, the poor girls were surprised to see that yes this offer does exist! They promptly printed the menu out and we were served from it, the only other issue was that I chose the sticky toffee pudding from this menu and was advised that the chef said it was only available in the evening, it is on the menu therefore should have been served at this time, I appreciate the chefs point of view a little a she/she did not know this menu existed until I asked for it. Very poor on the part of senior management, I think an apology is due to the staff in particular the 2 ladies who handled the situation brilliantly. As previously stated by others TURN THE MUSIC DOWN.

The Crown has always been one of my go to places to visit with the family. Our last visit was for Sunday Lunch to celebrate a birthday with the grandchildren. I had the trio of meat, my chicken piece was small unfortunately I had the piece with the wing bone so not a lot of white meat, which was a shame. It was moist and flavoursome but small. The pork was moist too, cut thin so not a big portion with crackling, I liked the apricot stuffing. The beef on the website showed a picture of medium pink beef but I received a drier overcooked sirloin beef. The carrots were tasty and I liked the other veg and roast potatoes. We ordered the pigs in blankets as an extra and they were very good. The service was friendly and we didn’t have to wait long for our food. So some good parts to the meal but the meat could be more generous.

My partner and I were dining with friends..this was our first visit. When we got there we shown to our table where we promptly ordered drinks which then took 20+ mins to arrive when they eventually did arrive I they bought a pint when I had ordered a half. We then ordered our mains I chose the Whole lemon and Thyme Sea Bass with Salsa Verde and wood fired potatoes. We ordered 4 mains 5 arrived not sure how they got that wrong! When my Sea Bass arrived, despite the menu saying a whole fish it was infact one fillet no Salsa Verde served on top of microwaved roasted potatoes in a round dish! So essentially fish and potatoes for £23! I bought this to the Waitress’s attention who sent someone senior…only to told that it was a whole fish!! At that point I made it very clear to her that a fish has 2 sides! I found her attitude quite dismissive, condescending and rude trying to tell me it was a whole fish! She then said I would only be charged half the price..no apology for presenting food that didn’t fit her menu’s description..to make matters worse my friends partner ordered the half a garlic Chicken..expecting half of a chicken when that arrived it was half of a Poussin a considerable difference in size! I don’t think I have been to a restaurant where the menu is so misleading and staff clearly do not have a knowledge of good customer service. We will not be visiting The Crown again.

Travelling from Lincolnshire to Wiltshire we have called in several times over the last few years and it's always been very good. Booked for lunch last Friday having looked at your Lunch Menu. We were told the website is out of date and has been for a long time which was disappointing. Generally I thought the service was not as good as previous visits.

Good village pub and recently refurbished. Ate using the 50% off offer and the price was right for what we had. Had to ask twice for the table water and drinks orders weren't taken at all - had to ask for this too. Will wait for another offer before eating there again as full prices are a little high for the food. Wine very expensive at £14 for a large glass so will stick to the odd beer and crisps when popping by!

We received an email informing us of a new kitchen & menu and a 50% off offer to come and try. When we arrived the place was very busy, however we got to our table on time. For starters we had the squid and the chicken, the squid was ok but the chicken was badly over cooked. For the main we had steak and lamb cutlets, both were inedible.

The table was booked directly with the manager by phone for 7.30pm in the restaurant. It was confirmed by my wife the day before our booking at which point she was actually given a table number. We arrived on time to find there was no table available for us and were asked to wait as the manager was going to sort it out. After a half hour wait I found the manager, Rhys, who eventually found us a table. From a booking at 7.30pm we received our food about 9pm. As a local and regular user of the Crown I wasn't impressed as clearly they had overbooked the tables and even with 50% opening offer discount I found the food mediocre. I thought that the managers attitude under the circumstances could have been less blasé and keener to resolve the issue.

Food used to be really nice here but the last two meals I have been met disappointment. This meal was a Sunday evening, I had the ‘sticky’ beef salad as a main. The cabbage salad was lovely, but topped with dry beef. Friends had the pork roast, which lacked on the table completely, plus no crackling or apple sauce; which were on the menu. My previous meal in the past was an inedible steak which I was reimbursed for. Both occasions, there were no check backs from staff, so problems couldn’t be resolved. I won’t be eating here again as is expensive for disappointing food. Photos below. Roast meal had nothing eaten before the photo

Lovely evening at The Crown Inn on a Tuesday night. We had dinner in the bar area and was great to see it so busy! I had sausage and mash and was delighted - the quality of sausages was excellent and the mustard mash was smooth and flavoursome. My boyfriend had the steak, ale and horseradish pie which tasted great too. Plenty of veg with both. We have to give praise for the Rhubarb and Custard Eton Mess though - incredible! Definitely recommend. Thank you for wonderful evening.

Today was my wife's birthday , so we decided on the Crown for lunch as we only live two and a half miles away. We we warmly greeted at the bar and shown to our table. Prawn and Crayfish cocktail to start. We both had the Chicken , Bacon, and Ava cado salad . Both of these meals were exceptional. We skipped sweet and had the cheeseboard. All washed down with an excellent Argentinian Chardonnay . Our two young servers , Izzy and Sophy, were well mannered and polite throughout our meal. My wife was delighted with her birthday meal.

EVERYTHING from booking to food via staff , decor, garden and toilet was FANTASTIC. Either the previous reviews were biased or The Crown Inn has seriously upped their game since last month!! Lovely modern rustic feel, warm atmosphere, super friendly staff, soft lights and really great food. I had the sea bass and chorizo gnocchi: it was perfectly seared with crispy skin and tender flesh, the sauce was delicious and the veggies crunchy! A delight! My wife had the classic burger and was very pleased too. We actually almost did not come because of the latest reviews…. I’m regally happy the rook that chance.

Such a shame that I feel I have to write this review after having our Wedding and reception at the Crown in 2017. Little Britain pubs were a unique take on a local village pub, with 5 in the Group, but selling out last year to a larger group, what was a wonderful memory after your visit has sadly turned to nothing more than any large pub chain. We visited in April for our 6th Wedding Anniversary, the food was excellent, we were updated that a Master Chef finalist was now cooking... food was to die for. Visited again in May for Sunday lunch for our Mums 90th, perfect, everything was amazing, couldn't fault a thing. Came on Fathers day for lunch and my husband commented they need to.sharpen their knives as no one could cut their meat. Sadly we come to Friday evening last week. Firstly we thought we had the wrong menu, as one side of A4 had lunch, dinner and Sunday lunch on it, assured it was the right menu we all chose the Summer Sizzler special, with a prawn crayfish cocktail to start... I am not a masterchef finalist, but my prawn cocktails are much tastier, no hint of mayonnaise in it, dry, and a ratio of 80% lettuce to protein? Ok, moving onto the main... sizzler comprised, steak, sausage, ribs, chicken, fries and coleslaw... steak, ok, cooked nicely, tasted lovely, sausage equally ok, bit bready, but ok, ribs... dry, grissley and no different to a £5 pack from Lidl, where you get more than 2 ribs.. chicken, so dry, no taste at all... coleslaw was about a teaspoon in a pot... fries ok... we ate it as we were hungry, when asked had we enjoyed our meal...well no, offered free dessert, but our tummies were churning, so no thankyou, 30% off the bill, which was a lovely gesture and accepted, but after living in the village, having our wedding there, we won't be going again as sadly The Crown has fallen foul of the Corporate Giant where the food is mediocre at best, on par with Weatherspoons, and no where near as tasty as the Montero lounge in town, or the Bluebell at Hoby, Royal Oak at Great Dalby... sorry team and staff at The Crown, you are great, but no longer somewhere we will go.. x

We’ve been going to the crown for about 9 years and it’s always been our go to place when visiting our friends in Melton. We went on Friday evening and were looking forward to the usual lovely food. We sat down and started scanning the menu and immediately all mentioned that we must have the lunch menu as it was basic to say the least, but no the waitress confirmed that it was the only menu and that we couldn’t have sandwiches as they were only available for lunch. There was also a specials list with one main course on which was the summer platter which we all plumbed for. After prawn and “crayfish tail” cocktails our mains arrived. If we hadn’t had to wait for our taxi we would have left at this point as what was put in front of us was the most unappetising meal we’d ever seen. The minute steak to be fair was very nice and the sausage was passable but the chicken had obviously been reheated with a dried out sauce on it and the calamari had been overcooked. This was accompanied by a little dish of dried out skin on fries and about a spoonful of coleslaw. We did eat it and complained vehemently afterwards and were offered free dessert. We declined desserts and were actually given 30% off the bill which although a nice gesture didn’t make up for our disappointment. The after taste of this meal is still with us two days later.

This pub has gone through a good few changes since I have known it, but has always been of interest until………….like many pubs in this area and further afield, it has been bought by the redcat group. It started life with a barely acceptable if identical menu with all the other pubs in the group. It is so limiting for choice when most of the local pubs all have the same menu. Tonight we found the menu to have been reduced further, with most of the interesting dishes removed from the menu, and one of the few dishes left was unavailable. A “Gastro Pub” it is not, a slightly up market Wetherspoons would be nearer the mark. The staff have a consistent pattern throughout the pubs I have visited in the group, that is young (cheap), inexperienced waiters and bar staff, and young managers who are not as good as they think they are. It is a great shame that some very good pubs have been bought and turned into boring, barely adequate pubs (The Windmill in Wymeswold is the pub that probably does the best with the formula after a shaky start, they certainly manage to cook the limiting menu with a degree of skill). What is more worrying is that bad pubs like the King William in Sedgefield, Norfolk, which has been bought by the same group, are also getting “not as good as it used to be” reviews. This would have been a real opportunity to drag a well situated pub up to compete with the very strong opposition around it, but this dull, unimaginative menu is hardly likely to compete with the strong offerings in this area (Rose and Crown, Snettisham, Orange Tree, Thornham, Duck at Stanhoe, White Horse and the Ship, Brancaster, The Crown, East Rudham). I do not see the point in buying five hundred pubs and making them faceless and worse than they were, I do not understand the business model. If it succeeds then there is something very wrong in the world. Locally, Stuart and Harry’s “Tap and Run” in Upper Broughton should be the phoenix back from the ashes (not those Ashes!) soon, and I wish the recently community bought “Black Horse” in Grimston well. Please save us from the mediocre drivel currently on offer locally. I realise this is a review of a group, as much as a pub, but I am very upset that someone that already has enough dosh to disappear into obscurity in Gloucestershire feels the need to spend £500,000,000 to reduce the day to day enjoyment of life for so many people. I suppose it is only a continuation of what Greene King did to the brewing industry! Replacing the extraordinary with the ordinary. What a pity!

The whole experience was poor. The food was nothing special. The service was appalling - it appeared we had been placed in an area out of the way and forgotten about. Service when it did happen was insincere and as though it was an effort. The impression was that it’s a local pub that happens to provide some food. Would we return - certainly not. The rating given was two star because managed well it could have potential to be a great place.

Not the place it used to be. I believe it is now owned by a larger food chain. The menu is not updated very often and on our last couple of visits were overpriced with average at best food. I’m no prude but seems to be too many young farmer types using foul language in there. Having said all that Chris who has worked there for some time gives fantastic customer service and is a great ambassador for the pub.

My family and I had a very disappointing Sunday lunch at The Crown Inn, We came here for a special birthday lunch as it had been highly recommended, sadly it didn’t meet our expectations the beef that was served was very tasteless, fatty and overall disgusting, the manager and chef both agreed that the meat was not up to standard (why send poor food out to the public if it’s not up to standard) the manager did offer to replace our meals and give us a complimentary pudding, how ever by this point we had all lost our appetite and left the pub feel very disappointed. We will not return. 🥲

What a gem this place is. We have been before, and once they reopened there was no other place I would rather go for a meal. The food, service, welcome and quality is always excellent. It is a dog friendly pub with a cracking garden for the good weather when it comes, plenty of parking in a quiet village setting.I have to say that if we had any reservations in the current climate of going out to the pub, these were completely put at ease by Matt and his team and all the measures that have been put in place.I would recommend this place without hesitation and we will be back again.

Went to the crown for the first time and was disappointed at the meal, I ordered the beaf hotpot and that’s all I got (a small bowl with hardly any meat) apart from 3 small prices of broccoli, no other veg or chips. I did mention it to the waiter but he nothing. Me or my family will not be returning.

Came today for Sunday roast. Had the Crown Jewels WOW. Absolutely delicious. I cannot fault a thing. Absolutely stuffed. Slightly ashamed I didn’t get a photo to post as it was presented perfectly too. As a first timer to here, I’d definitely recommend, come back and bring friends too. Good stuff

The Crown Inn is a halfway stop we regularly make when visiting family in Lincolnshire and iit s a firm favourite. Set in the countryside its lovely traditional pub serving delicious food. Today the staff excelled themselves when my husband needed a quiet place to sit and make a conference call. They found him an empty room, turned off the music and served him a cup of coffee while I enjoyed some soup and a mozzarella flatbread taking into account all my food allergies. We can't wait to visit again.

We visited as part of stay play explore, we were booked in for lunch at 2pm but due to an accident on the motorway we didn't make it, we called and they accomadated us in the evening instead. The staff were brilliant, they went out of their way to make sure we were happy. Food was no less than incredible, perfect portions, amazing quality food and the puddings... Well they were the icing on the cake literally. Left in a food coma and with a satisfied smile on our faces. The place is quirky and interesting and we loved looking around.

We like this chain of pubs. We usually always use the curzon arms and thought as we live closer to the crown would try it. It defiantly wasn’t as busy as the curzon which was a nice thing. The place is nice pretty large and well organised. To get served at the bar took a while with only one member of staff on which was annoying. The menu pretty much the same as curzon arms . We had the chateaubriand but found the beef to be a little tough and chewy which is very surprising. The mrs piece was very tough and couldn’t cut through it as no steak knifes were supplied. I feel this was a one off mistake and I’d defo return for a second try just not straight away. It’s not cheap but either is the curzon !!

Really nice spot to grab a pint. Friendly staff and locals to chat with. Patio out back for sunny days and fireplace inside for cold rainy days. Good menu and recommend the stilton sauce for almost everything!

Our friends have eaten here several times and recommended a place for lunch. Lunch was delicious three of us had the rare beef which could have been rarer. My partner had scampi which he said was absolutely delicious. The meal was really nice and tasty and mine was gluten-free with no issues afterwards obviously they manage their cross contamination really well. One disappointment for me was they did not have any gluten-free beer other than a Crabby‘s Ginger beer. I would’ve been more than happy with something like bottled gluten-free old Speckled Hen or Green King IPA, hand pumped beer from the Nene Valley Brewery would’ve made my day.

Lovely lunch at The Crown. Food was fresh and tasty as always. Great choice of drinks (including fabulous gin menu). Staff very friendly and could not do enough for us. Highly recommended. Very dog friendly and we were positively encouraged to take our dogs with us next time. Dogs are not allowed in the restaurant but that's fine because there are lots of areas in the pub to eat. Had a lovely fire burning today which was great as the weather was very wet when we arrived. Definitely returning very soon

Thursday night. Full menu really varied - could have ordered a number of things. We didn’t realise when we booked but it happened to be steak night so we both ordered a ribeye steak - steaks were really tasty (as were the skinny chips!). Good value, too, off the steak night menu. Friendly service and desserts were delicious - would recommend the sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel sauce and honeycomb ice cream! Will definitely return.

When a place caters for a party of 28 with out any issues you have to give a 5 stars. Food & service was faultless. All 28 people had nothing but good things to say. Special mention to David who look after us. Sorry to the other staff who I haven’t mentioned but your were great as well. Lots of people from the party will be returning. Well don’t guys. Thank you.

Catch up with an old friend to discuss future business and last minute choice to eat here. Excellent service from David and team and the food was great, the fillet was spot on, well cooked and perfectly rested. Dessert was a bonus as not only did it taste great it was a proper portion size.

Hi I'd just like to say a huge thank you to The Crown Inn for looking after me and my guests at my 40th birthday meal last Saturday. Everything was perfect and ran smoothly. All the guests including the children enjoyed themselves, esp the later when the pub dog was around! This is my second visit to The Crown Inn and we can't wait to come back soon.

Just arrived home after Sunday lunch at The Crown. First class service and food cooked to perfection. We have made many visits here and never been disappointed. The staff are very attentive without being pushy. They also had a barbecue and a local band on later in the afternoon.

I visited Stapleford Park with a family group - my wife, son and girlfriend and my father-in law and his wife. We wanted to celebrate my son’s girlfriend’s birthday with a special occasion visit because, being Australian, she relished the idea of doing something typically English. The venue itself is undoubtedly impressive, but the afternoon tea experience was very disappointing. On arrival there was no proper welcome from any member of staff engaged in afternoon tea service. We were shown to our table and given a briefing from a senior staff member. After this, the level of service was virtually non-existent. Nobody asked whether everything was OK, whether more or any different teas were required. Amazingly, for this type of event, only one type of tea per person was offered. The sandwiches were unappetising, and cakes decidedly unimpressive. My father-in-law who is 98 went to the bar to settle the bill, and it was only a few days later that he showed us he’d been charged 6 x £41, plus a service charge of £30. He wasn’t told about the service charge when paying. We were outraged at the underhand way this charge had been levied, and also the fact that there was no relationship between the charge and the poor service we had received. The service charge was later refunded following a phone call by my wife. There are obvious signs of weak management and poor staff training here. Avoid if you’re looking for a more rewarding experience.

I really like this pub, we've used it a couple of times whilst doing a little section of the "Leicestershire Round", (a long footpath that goes....well, I'll leave you to figure that out 😉) a beautiful building, and a really welcoming atmosphere. We had a lovely sunday lunch here a little while ago, and we're hoping to repeat that experience soon.

Call me a leprechaun and get me a pot because ive found gold. What a pub! Every village pub has its uniquity but this one has knocked them out the park. Inside a stunning building is one of the friendliest places ive been to. The staff (Chloe in particular) were so welcoming they made mother Teresa look like Pol Pot. I have no doubt this pub has been around for 2 millenia, because if jesus was to have a ‘last supper’ it mustve been here. The chefs worked a miracle in that kitchen. If my girlfriend wasnt there to tell me off for bad manners i wouldve licked the plate clean. Every local to Waltham on the Wolds should feel privileged to have this at your doorstep. Bloody brilliant
