I found some of the staff helpful and courteous, but the lady I spoke to at the end about an issue was dismissive and didn't even offer an apology. I'd simply politely made her aware at the end of our evening that a piece of the wooden wall had suddenly fallen down and landed on my big toe, hurting it. The least I would have expected was an apology but the response I received was defensive. Food-wise, a couple of our large party loved their meals, but mine was sadly dry and lacklustre. Needless to say I won't be visiting again.

We have visited The Crown numerous times since “discovering” it just over a year ago whilst in search of an evening meal. The food is good quality and freshly cooked upon ordering , the chips are homemade as opposed to the frozen rubbish usually offered , excellent changing range of real ales all extremely well kept . The hosts and staff are most welcoming and friendly , as are the many locals , it’s a pleasure to find a pub that is still operated as a traditional village inn . A big bonus is that The Crown is dog friendly and even offers “doggy dinners” .

Recently visited the Crown Inn for a evening meal. At first I was a little apprehensive as there were only two other people eating and the pub lacked, in my opinion, a bit of atmosphere. However I need not have worried, the very friendly landlady took our order, in my case the gammon meal and my wife had a cheeseburger. Both meals were very tasty, ample portions and reasonably priced, this was out last day in the area, otherwise we would have been happy to return.

We can here for 3 out of our 4 nights in Catfield. I wish we had come for the 4th as this place is a local gem. Both the cos & the plaice is freshly battered and the fish perfect. I really wasn’t expecting this from a small pub I just thought it would be frozen. My husband had the burger and one night the lasagne both of which were well cooked. The pub is friendly, clean & has lovely staff. I would really recommend this lovely country pub.

The cook went home at 9.00pm and we didn’t arrive until 15 minutes after this. The reception on my phone was awful and I was cut off. The lady I’d spoken to rang me back and took our food order over the phone. When we arrived, cold, tired and hungry, our food (a delicious cod and chips) were waiting for us. We had a refreshing beer and a bottle of red wine with our meal in a lovely, friendly atmosphere. I can’t rate the pub highly enough. It’s customer service was outstanding!

We spent the first week of September 2017, renting a cottage in Catfield and this little gem was just around the corner. When I say we this included two spaniels who only visit pubs and towns whilst on Holiday. Our first visit to the crown was delightful even though one of the staff had got married we were made most welcome as long as the dogs owners were well behaved. The Landlady Gail greeted our two with a biscuit each and we were seated in a small area away from the main bar. Fish and chips was the order of the day and all I can say is on this meal alone they could compete with all the award winning fish and chip shops, and proper home made chips mmm. Needless to say we spent every evening there and sampled most of the extensive menu. We were treated as locals and part of the family. This made our holiday. Thank you Gail and all members of your lovely stafff.

The only problem with dinner was that is was so big I didn't have room for dessert. My wife did go for the Rhubarb Crumble but didn't manage to finish it, it was huge. So good friendly service and good food, what more could you want! Oh I must mention the coffee as I do like a decent cup, this was good and served in a nice glass cup. My brother and I arrived on a busy Friday in need of food and beer on a wet and windy final night of a sailing holiday. Although the Crown was pretty full the young lady behind the bar made us most welcome and we were seated in a side room where we had an excellent meal and drinks. The food was freshly cooked, tasty and good value and, had I not been driving, I would have consumed more of the beer. From the look of the other customers, both those dining and those having a chat over a drink, I think everyone was having a most pleasant evening and enjoying themselves. I suspect that this is because the owners and staff are aiming to run a pub where their customers, both regulars and those on holiday, have an enjoyable time (which, sadly, is not a feeling one gets too often). I suggest any connoisseurs of secluded moorings who venture up Catfield Dyke will probably find it worth the walk for an evening at The Crown

Since my last review, we have been back several times to Catfield Crown. We are always welcomed most warmly by Gail & Scott, and they always make a lunchtime meal with our friends special. The food, prepared by Scott, is excellent pub fare, and cannot be beaten in our opinion, and we are very fussy! We will be back again very soon!

From the outside The Crown looks somewhat nondescript but I have never let that deter me from entering a pub and once inside I was not in the slightest bit disappointed. It is a lovely, traditional village pub which ticked all my boxes. We were staying in a nearby cottage for a week and used The Crown each evening either for a few pints or a meal. We were treated politely and respectfully by the friendly landlady and the obvious locals didn't seem bothered in the slightest that we were casuals. There was a small but very nice selection of ales and our meals the two times we ate here were definitely a notch or two above average pub food - in fact I can't recall ever having better steak & kidney pudding in a pub or restaurant. Overall one of the best pubs of it's type that I have been to for a long time. It wasn't overly busy each night we were there so I cannot comment on how they handle "busy" but I would not hesitate to use The Crown again if in the area again.

We visited here for a family drink and a bite to eat for my partners birthday, As we walked in the whole place went quiet, we ordered our drinks and the got told we should go through to the back room which looked more like a working men's club come store room than a nice village pub.

Small but with plenty of character I would be very happy to have this pub within staggering distance of my home. We had lunches, two of which were excellent and one was OK. The beer was spot on. So nice to see dark beers also provided. We sat outside in the sunshine and had one round more than we usually do because of the quality.

Wonderful and friendly pub, we sat on a warm sunny day sipping Old Peculiar watching the world go by on the bench's out side. We then retired to the closed courtyard beer garden to escape the suns rays....(part vampire here). On the evening we returned and had surf 'n' turf, the steak being cooked to perfection, the prawns bursting with garlicky goodness. The chips hand cut, the onion rings to die for. Would we go back?....in a heart beat. Loved every nanosecond in this traditional oasis among a desert of unworthy gastro pubs.

After playing football and having a tough training session. I was very thirsty and hungry. so me and my group of friends (only 4 of us) aged 19 went to get a drink, as soon as we walked in the door at 2pm we were almost ushered out of the pub without buying anything. Terrible!

Why anyone would choose to call a cafe Tickety Boo is beyond me but the food is good and you don't eat the name! Very strange and off-putting style where they take your money before you eat - which meant we didn't order any cake after our meal as we couldn't be bothered to queue and pay all over again. None of the diners I've seen in here look like the type that would run off without paying! Despite this the food really was excellent and I will be back for more.

The owner of this place does not have a clue about running a business which includes giving polite, courteous customer service because she has none of these skills! Off hand, flippant and down right rude are skills she is good at. The staff they employ are inexperienced, ignorant and lacking any customer skills also. Asked if they could serve a flat white coffee they responded, “never heard of it” and when we asked what beer they had the waitress said one in a bottle with a red label and one with a blue label. Unbelievable! Overpriced and the food is very mediocre, we cook better and tastier at home. Never go again and would never recommend. Tip for owner, go on a management course to help your inexperienced staff and while there learn some customer service skills.

Our family joined my wife and I to celebrate her birthday at "The Kitchen" on Sunday. The chef offered a choice of three roasts bookable in advance. The food was well presented and delicious, and the waiters were extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble. This venture is in its infancy and the bar like surroundings could be improved. Good food at good prices. Book in advance as the opening hours are limited.

These folks know how to treat people. Getting in might be a little tough but it is worth the wait.
