Absolutely fabulous lunch, well cooked beautifully presented food served by professional but friendly staff. The restaurant has a wonderful warm and welcoming atmosphere. We all had a wonderful lunch and will definitely return when next in this area. The staff even presented my Mother with a Happy Birthday Dessert. Many thanks for a wonderful experience.

I've not been to what was The Crown at Crucis for about ten years. I went with two friends for coffee and found that the building had been much extended. It was a very plessant visit. We shall return.

I had booked this pub on a recommendation from a friend. I booked for my 50th birthday for 12 people with a mix of adults and older children. We completed the preorder a few weeks previously. Upon arrival - I had my 50 balloons with me but received a cold welcome and no one referenced my birthday. We were shown to a private room, which was a lovely environment and felt special, however the room was incredibly warm so we had to open the windows. I mentioned to a man in a navy suit that it was my birthday and that I had an email advising I could have a free bottle of bubbles, and again he coldly replied ‘you will need to show me the email!’ The starters arrived at different times and I did feel the scallops were hugely over priced for the portion size , and the prawn cocktail was very odd in presentation. We had to find someone to ask for drinks as the team seemed busy in the main areas and we felt forgotten. The mains arrived - again at different times, and immediately we all said the food was cold, and the portion of meat was very small. We had to chase twice to get gravy and sauces which I find really poor and no one asked if everything was ok, we didn’t say anything at the time as didn’t want to create a scene and hoped the gravy would heat the food through. We waited and waited for extra potatoes and veg and after we had finished and been sat there 5 mins the chef made an appearance with bowls of pots and veg! I replied ‘it is too late we have finished and we wanted these ten mins ago?!’ The meat itself was not great quality and all that had the beef and lamb advised it was chewy and not enjoyable. The desserts arrived at different times again and I was then advised that all had been brought out and I said we had another sticky toffee pudding, and the waiter said ‘no that’s all you pre ordered!’ I had to show him the email to show that we were missing one - at this point he went off to find another one and came back 5 mins later with one! What is the point of a pre order if you don’t look at it properly? We would’ve ordered more drinks/wine if we had been given the opportunity but we just gave up! When we left the building no one said thank you or goodbye to us and the man in the navy suit just stood at the door with no eye contact or interaction! All in all really disappointing and we won’t return and won’t recommend!

Booked and had confirmation but staff were unaware that we had book. The place was very busy as there was obviously an event taking place so instead of being seated in the restaurant they found us a table in the bar which was just noisy. The new autumn menu has virtually no vegetable sides to offer and mains do not come with anything at all so if you can find anything vegetable plus potatoes you are looking at £30-£40 plus per main. Wait time was long. Quite a good wine list but real ale is poor. Fortunately we have many other better places to eat in the area. This was our first visit and will probably be our last.

Booked well in advance for four of us to have afternoon tea. Birthday treat. Shown to a very dark table in the bar, asked if we could be moved somewhere brighter where we could see each other, and told no as they were very busy. We booked for 2 pm. Having waited too long for service we caught the eye of the waiter who said there were only two of them dealing with bar and restaurant. Not good. Now I come to the food. Sandwiches were fresh but odd fillings. The smoked salmon had horseradish with it so you could not taste the salmon and the beef had so much mustard on it so you could not taste the beef. The other filling was very odd and very soggy, avocado and tomato, not good.Scones were very good but with sealed pots of apricot or blackcurrant jam, we asked for strawberry or raspberry jam but they did not have any!!! Not good. Cakes were awful, heavy and dry. The tiny chocolate eclair had no cream just hard chocolate in the middle. So disappointed.

We all had starters, mains and dessert, every dish was great. Service was fab, very helpful and polite. Standout dish was the tomahawk pork chop from the specials, very well cooked.

Came here with family for an evening meal and really enjoyed. I had the steak frites which were so tasty and the restaurant itself was beautiful!

Great food, lovely venue, fan service. We arrived on the Friday of the Fairford Air tattoo and as expected the place was busy. However despite this our host Louise was excellent throughout the meal. Engaging, attentive a friendly even though every table was full and demand for service was huge. Thank you.

We had an appalling experience here. Service was abysmal. Food was sub-par. We had to wait 1 hour for our drinks, 1 hour for our starters and 2 hours for our mains. We were proactively acknowledged only twice by members of staff during our wait of 4 hours (!) and otherwise had to leave our table to prompt waiters multiple times for drinks orders and to order food - or as to where our orders even were. A couple at the nearest table complained about their mains and told us themselves that they were given a completely comp’d meal and free alcohol for the evening. We were offered 20% discount, no service charge and refunded mains which still left us with a substantial bill. Begrudgingly, this offer was accepted by a member of the party however I left feeling we too should have not been charged anything, as it was a complete waste of time and total waste of money. Nothing we ordered could be enjoyed because everything took far too long to arrive. Food had to be eaten without drinks; and vice versa. Excuses were attempted about staffing levels (and I was actually quietly asked to put this in my review, would you believe!!!) but there was absolutely zero communication or acknowledgement of this throughout the evening and It was evident that other tables were receiving far better service (and actually receiving their orders!) so this is no excuse. I have genuinely never had such a poor standard of service, or of food, when it finally arrived. I will be doing the opposite of recommending The Crown and I feel we left with a lacklustre, inadequate and insincere offer of apology and compensation for this unacceptable experience.

Shocking service I don't normally review While doing a small tour of the area and having stopped at the close several times we decided to stop there for lunch that was a wasted 45 minutes We Sat in the garden got ignored for around 10 minutes in the end I went inside to ask for menus i had to stop a waiter to ask as i was continually ignored as staff walked past never asking can I help you I took the menus outside 2 visits from a waiter to another table again never looking around or asking would we like to order a some time later a second waiter appeared at the wooden station again no acknowledgement whatsoever we then decided we were wasting our time we really should not be trying to chase some service the staff here need some desperate training even a comment of I will be with you shortly would have been great ! And acceptable ! We returned to painswick for some great service and had lunch there But it's nice to see the close is doing so well they don't need to worry about lost custom

Just had a couple of nights at Dormy house hotel (at which the back garden is one of the 2 restaurants) We ate at the back garden on the first night Let me preface this by saying the hotel and the chefs table restaurant (Mo, which we dined at on the second night) are top notch - I’ve reviewed them separately also If I’m being honest though, the Back Garden was a bit of a let down Setting - lovely Service - great Wine and cocktails - fab I think we just made a few bad choices in terms of dishes (which are always subjective at the end of the day) Emma had the gazpacho - we love a gazpacho, this one just felt a bit thin and lacking seasoning. It was almost trying to be a bit too delicate I’d say the same about my starter, I had the hot smoked salmon salad - it just didn’t taste of much, needed more dressing. Just something to bring it to life? Emma’s main - the curried Kiev was top notch I had the roast cod in a mussel veloute sauce. Nice, but only 3 mussels? Emma didn’t have a dessert, I was intrigued by the sheep’s cheese, honey comb and Eccles cake dessert (the most expensive at £14) It just didn’t work for me - two small blobs of cheese, a small square of honeycomb and a small (beautifully baked) Eccles cake - it just didn’t hang together, I’m not sure what it was meant to deliver? We had a pleasant evening (thanks everyone) but compared to the rest of the stay we felt it missed the mark

Had a fantastic full English breakfast here (Mega). The food was well cooked and piping hot. I would certainly recommend having breakfast here!
