Went for lunch and had the roast. It was lovely and nicely priced. The staff were polite and very helpful. The pub had a good atmosphere and the facilities were well kept. Would recommend as a nice place to pop in for a good meal and some drinks.

My wife has eaten before, and really enjoyed it. My first impression not so great. Booked table for Sunday lunch with elderly relatives. Arrived at 12.15. Asked (at 12.25) to move table as ours was next to gents’ toilet and smell of urine very unpleasant. Was told all tables booked, but could sit in sports bar on high stools, which wouldn’t have been suitable. There was a table booked from 2.30, asked if we could sit there, would be finished well before then, but told no. 15 mins later, a couple were allowed to sit at that table? Rest of party ordered food, but I didn’t want to eat with lingering smell, even after propped open fire door closed. Can’t comment on food, others looked ok. Left hungry and very unhappy 🙁

Always have trouble eating out as I'm gluten-free and dairy-fre e. But had a good choice of food to choose from. Staff were very helpful and knowledgeable which helped. We're definitely recommend it to people similar as me.and we'll be going back again

One of the better pubs about Eastbourne.

We went to their sister pub and the roast was fantastic 10/10 so we thought we would try here. It was truly awful, roast potatoes are like burnt ends/crisps, the meat was like school dinner sliced processed meat, the veg looked old. We left all the food and drove straight to the Alex Arms and had another 10/10 fresh roast there. I don't understand how 2 pubs that are linked could be so different.

Came for a roast was told there was a wait and glad we stayed good was hot tasty and very good value lamb shank and beef was great. And we shared the pate starter which was the right decision

Extremely rude young staff second time I've run into this particular young lady first time asked her for a particular bottle beer she said they didn't stock it until I pointed it out in the chiller

This pub I can imagine is great for some (football supporters)however if your after a peaceful pub lunch this is not the place, prices are reasonable we were in a small group and the food looked presentable and tasted ok although the three of us that had fish also had a long time on the toilet! The service was slow but the servers polite and helpful would not return.

Brilliant pub. Came here for a meal on a Friday evening, it was busy but a great atmosphere. Love to see a pub where they have more then enough staff to suit everybody's needs. The pub offers an excellent buffet. All very tasty. The spareribs are excellent. The service is super friendly and helpful. The ambience and atmosphere fantastic.

Met up with some other Chesham United fans for the 1st away trip of the season. Decent atmosphere, great presentation with the food, great laughs and drank plenty that day. Just need to learn to stop collecting glasses from our tables 🤣🤣🤣, when i'm out. Once a bartender always a bartender 🤣🤣🤣

It's OK, we're were staying up the road so called this our local, it felt like it to, friendly staff, nice atmosphere god drinks, fair prices.

I'm sure this could be a good pub, located right on the beach front it could have the potential to be great, my main issue throughout my visit was the teams lack of customer service and general miserable faces behind the bar. Food was ok. Wouldn't return again though sorry.

This place was one of the worst bars I've ever entered into, and that includes some of worst dive bars in America. The staff were totally unattentive, there were no bar mats on tables, the tables were sticky and seats covered in detritis. The drinks and food prices were more expensive than West end London prices (where I work) and trying to get served was an absolute joke. I wanted to walk out after my first drink, however my wife wanted to try the Eastbourne Iced Tea cocktail, which considering it should have contained 4 shots of alcohol tasted like blue flavoured water... Complete waste of money and zero atmosphere. Had intended returning to Eastbourne on 18/08/24 for airshow, but so disappointed with this visit, that have cancelled booking and will never return to this town as found this lack of customer service is endemic here.

Staff seem quite lazy, like they don't want to be there. Assume chef has changed in the last year or two as food not as good as it used to be. My wife witnessed a member of staff using a broom to sweep the coffee station counter down and then use the same broom on the floor. I didn't use the toilets but my wife said the ladies were dirty and no toilet roll in one of the cubicles, which tells me they're not attended regularly.

Popped in for a bite to eat and a drink. Had the bangers and mash which was delicious and a pint of Guinness which went down a treat. The staff are really friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is nice and relaxed. Overall a first class pub

Well... we did had food just because were hungry. Otgerwise not worth visiting. Lack of clean tables, horrible toilets,service not great...garlich mushrom was not possible to eat,loads vinegar/acid. And pricey!

Gorgeous setting on the water. Lovely dining area. Great service...huge, devoted crowds....parking required walki g, which wasno issue. Unfortunately, 2 of the 3 parties had the fish and chips. Portions were enormous but taste was so-so. Soggy crust and very greasy. Fries were great.

Walked inside, immediately got hit in the face with a smell of disgusting, moldy beer, left right away.

We went here last night staff friendly nice atmosphere food fantastic. I had the special steak and kidney ale pie omg lovely bits of steak pastry amazing. My husband had vegan option nut roast again all hot and can't fault our meals highly recommend 😄😄👏👏

Had an evening meal here the other day, granted it was very busy but I feel that I've had better food as a just eat delivery from these guys, will try again soon.

Great food and atmosphere, only thing was it quite expensive, at least for my budget. Although an must see for an eastbourne trip!

Visited twice during our weekend stay.Once for drinks and nibbles and for dinner before going to the theatre. A fantastic all round pub. Friendly smiling staff, good music,great food , outside terraces. wide range of drinks/coffees. All areas clean. All the food we had was excellent from snacks of chicken wings and hallomi fries to the the scampi and chips and crispy pork belly for dinner. Everything served hot and well presented.Only one negative was the wine selection , a very small limited list given the very wide range of other drinks available on the bar. Only 3 white wines and two of them were french , red wine slightly better with 4 offerings from different countries.I drink savignon blanc and would normally find one from New Zealand, Chile ,South Africa on a wine list. The french offering was awful. Very acidic, my husband said the red wasnt great either . A shame as we both enjoy wine with food . I spoke to the lady behind the bar and she said she drank the same as me and it wasnt great and there wasnt much choice. Overall a great pub and will return again when visiting Eastbourne. Very busy at times so best to book a table if you want to be sure of getting a spot to eat.Booked in 2 hour time slots. Would have been 5 stars but for the wine

Food was ok I guess. Advertised itself as a football pub but didn’t even have commentary on for the first game of the euros which was a massive mistake. We and others asked but they said they couldn’t for some reason. Servers friendly

Nice typical British pub. There are separate areas for different purposes. Range of beers. We had roasted beef, it didn't satisfy our expectations but still it's okay. Price is slightly above average. Booking in advance recommended.

Staff awesome .... well staff were awesome today she was point blank rude no conversation infact she came across quite milatant...... got food wrong way round quite a shame really as last experience here was awesome so really disappointed at your bar staffs attitude very unfriendly never again and let people know

Dog friendly Visited Saturday afternoon for lunch staff where extremely friendly and helpful the waitress who brought our food over was very pleasant and attentive the food was homemade and you could tell.. Visited around 6.30

It's a pub and as pubs go the food and service were excellent. Fish and chips and ham and eggs were very tasty and cooked to perfection. The staff were lovely. Nothing was too much trouble for them. And to cap it all it was only a five - minute walk from our hotel!

What A Shame!!We Have Been Going To The Crown And Anchor For Many Years Now,It Looks lovely With Its New Refurbishment, sadly The Meals Are half The Size They Used To Be, plus If You use The Gents loos, it Is Disgusting, black mould everywhere Just look up at the ceiling ,Black Mould spores are dangerous to peoples health. Will not be going back there until this has been sorted out, I hope the New Management read this and take a look For yourself.In today's hygiene aware society there Is no excuse for this.

We were in the function room. Decent prices and the veranda was an excellent option. Cools you down after all that jiving.

Sky TV great place Sunday Roast

Decent selection of beers and nice staff. Unfortunately the chips and peas for our mains were both undercooked, and the cod and scampi was only ok. Prices are fine. They also sadly don’t get the afternoon sun in their terrace which is a shame!

The lunch/dinner food here is just amazing, then bbq ribs are probably the best I've had, the bbq chicken wings they do for a starter are delicious. The only thing negative for me is the banoffee pie, it was awful, I had hoped it would be on par with the actual meals but unfortunately not. I've put 3* for atmosphere as I really didn't feel much of an atmosphere, it was quiet and peaceful but that's what I wanted. I've never been when they've had music playing.

We had a booking for an outside table for dinner. When we were showed to our table outside, the table was dirty, with another customer already sitting there. He was asked to move but the staff didn't bother to even wipe the table. We asked for an ashtray and were handed a dirty & full ashtray from another table with chewing gum stuck in it. Everything felt grubby & dirty. Food was pretty poor, one of the dishes was cold, while the others were tastless. One of the worst pubs I've been to in UK.

Absolutely dead in the evening, no atmosphere whatsoever. Prices steep too compared to other bars in the area. Only stayed for one quick drink and we will not be returning

Had a 60th birthday bash there on the 11th May 2024. Each staff member made us all very welcome. The buffet was outstanding, the was not one complaint. Great selection of drinks. Everything was incredible. Thank you for the new memories made. Wendy and Katy

Just took my mum here for Sunday Roast and wasn't disappointed. One of the best home cooked style roasts I've had in a long time, nice venue and friendly staff too will definitely be back next time I'm in town

There were 5 of us plus a dog, down for the car show, so we booked in advance to guarantee a table.There was a good selection of drinks and all 5 of us chose different meals. Service was very good, attentive and helpful. We were all very pleased with our meals, my lamb shank just fell off the bone. Having a dog with us limited our choice of venue this time but we could not have chosen better. Normally it's just my wife and I visiting Eastbourne, without a dog, even so, The Crown & Anchor will now be a regular.

Not great food with a long wait and the worse customer service I have ever received from the bar manger. Fortunately the owner was at on the hand to save the day and turn things around. An amazing lady who I will never forget. I have eaten here previously and the food has been amazing.

This is my go to pub in Eastbourne. There are many in the area that I enjoy, but you can't beat the Crown and Anchor for quick service, friendly staff, great food and plenty of live music at the weekends. Never been disappointed, always left merry.

Staff are excellent and friendly. Food was average at best, roast beef awful. Starters were ok . Roast belly pork quite nice but a bit dry. Roast beef was a couple of slices of something which looked like it had come out of a packet, it certainly wasn't carved from a joint that had been cooked today. Birds eye roast beef in gravy would have been better quality . Don't know how all the excellent reviews for roast dinners appear online ,have we just come on a bad day or is this the norm ?

This pub gets very busy. The staff are extremely efficient and the food is fabulous.

My daughter and I went to this pub last night as we were staying nearby. This is definitely one of the friendliest pubs we have been to! Every member of staff was welcoming, chatty, helpful and smiley. The food was fabulous and plentiful! I wish we lived nearer as it would definitely be our go to place. Fabulous!

We had visited here a couple of years ago and I’m pleased to say it’s as good as ever. I had the lamb shank and it just fell off the bone. My friend had the pie which was first rate. The veg with the meals is imaginative and well cooked. We had a side order of cauliflower cheese which I can recommend. This is not just a restaurant that serves beer but a proper pub where drinkers are equally welcome. In my opinion, this is a traditional English pub at its best.

Went to the Thursday night pub quiz. All 6 of us all had great food. Service was spot on. Great atmosphere. Could hear the questions clearly (some pub quizzes are terrible). We've also been for live music previously, which is also always great. Only downside is that the gents toilets desperately need a refurb and a good clean a lot of black mould higher up and there's only an old fashioned trough urinal and 1 cubical, so it gets a bit busy when the pub is full - I try to avoid using it while we're there if I can - still not a good enough reason to go somewhere else, so everything else must be good!

So disappointed. Think we picked a bad night. Went for the cod and chips which arrived after 50 minutes. Cod was cooked to a frazzle, dark brown swimming in oil and flesh was dry and chewy. Staff were friendly, professional and understanding when we shared our disappointment. Half of the bill was refunded. If everything was perfect it was still a small portion of skin on cod. The chips were hot and delicious. The peas were peas! The salad consisted if 2 spinach leaves, a sliver of red onion, half a cocktail tomato and a 'slice' of lemon which was probably cut with a laser! Wedge it wasn't. As I stated, disappointed because it has decent reviews. Better luck next time.

Staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly. No sooner we entered with our family dog, staff offered help and showed us to nice table. We were waited on for drinks and food, with helpful tips and advice, which were all good. Excellent food, worth the little extra over some other local pubs. Highly Recommended.

Avoid!!!! Went for breakfast and waited a hour. Burnt sausages, rock solid cold cheapest bread for toast. Nasty tasting cheap beans, greesy mushrooms would not touch. Rude staff when we complained!! Would never return for breakfast again. We had a better breakfast at tesco cafe.

A lovely pub near the pier. Even though it is a Greene King and you expect the chains to be very generic, this was made special by the tall guy who serve behind the bar and the meals. Lovely guy who really looked after us. Plus, they have regular live entertainment. Worth a visit if you are walking past.

Had an early dinner as we had booked the Royal Hippodrome, an ideal spot as very close. The pub is pleasant and the server we had was attentive, however the food was rather disappointing. We both had steak and ale pie - the beef was plentiful but the crust was soggy. I wonder whether it was heated in a microwave rather than a conventional oven. The vegetables were a bit greyish and washed out too. We then ordered the American baked cheese cake and no way was this baked but rather a strange texture. All in all rather underwhelmed!

Great pub with really great staff. Lunch was VERY tasty and didn’t disappoint. So many eateries in Eastbourne where their staff let them down but not here. You really feel they all want you to have a great time and go out of their way to ensure you get the food exactly as you want it. Excellent value for money. I’ll be back!

Came for a meal last week with friends. Meal was great as was atmosphere but I found a smell of urinals within the pub at the top end where the toilets are. The bathrooms also need some attention especially with black mould on the ceilings, floors wet and slippy. If this area of the pub was looked at it would get a 5.

I decided to visit this pub on my solo trip to Eastbourne… It is very close to the seafront which is lovely after a walk by the sea. The staff here seemed really lovely and were happy to help with anything The friendly atmosphere lead me to eat here and chill and read with a drink. They offer a roast turkey dinner all week which is a huge positive and it was well priced and really tasty! I had to follow this with a chocolate fudge cake which was a little small but delicious! People in the pub were also lovely so just high recommendations from me
