Amazing chippy don't give them a miss

Cod and chips fish was really good. Big, juicy, chunky cod. Chips aren't your average chips from a chippy, this were uniquely cooked. You can tell this is a proper family run restaurant with their own twist on things. Will definitely be visiting again soon. Service was very friendly. Would recommend eating in.

Been coming here for years. Amazing food, reasonable prices, friendly staff, and moments from the sea front.

Never been disappointed. Fish and chip special with tea and mushy peas/gravy is the best. Wish they were in Portsmouth.

One of the best fish and chip shops in Eastbourne, if not the world. What a lovely plaice... their eggs can't be beaten... their sausages certainly aren't the wurst... and their pie is worth so much more than 3.14 too. Get your skates on and go!

THE WORST FISH AND CHIP SHOP! The staff were the rudest people I have ever come across in a restaurant. The waitress was monosyllabic and rude. I think perhaps she just lacked brain cells. Unbelievable lack of not just manners but basic communication! A youngish boy took a cash payment from me and found it amusing that he had short changed me. He was seen telling another young man about it. It was only a pound but as a matter of principle I asked him to give me the correct change. How the management of this restaurant can leave such imbeciles to deal with the public is concerning. I would advise anyone considering this place to go elsewhere. The place is hostile and unpleasant. I will be telling everyone I know not to frequent this place. WORST PLACE EVER

I've been in here a few months and the food was lovely. However, this time it wasn't anywhere near as nice. I ordered the large cod and chips and dad got cod and chips special, that included peas and a cup of tea and it was £3 cheaper than the large cod. So you would expect it to be smaller. But no, his fish and chips were larger than mine! Mine was very thin. Also I don't think the fish I had was even cod. The flesh was very soft, not firm at all and it didn't have any taste to it. My dad's fish seemed totally different to mine. I really hope it isn't going downhill as it was lovely last time I went in. But sadly this time it wasn't very nice.

Ordered a large cod and small chips as a takeaway for lunch, very helpful and friendly staff whilst ordering , drove 2 minutes away to the seafront to eat it. Chips were delicious 😋.. fish was also tasty but very greasy as you can see in the picture… apologies for my half eaten meal pictures but I was hungry 🤩😆

Easy ordering and delivered on time. Kept well informed of progress of my order. Food was delicious, arrived hot and very plentiful.

Authentic type fish restaurant. I prefer my battered cod a bit darker and crispier and fish cooked a bit more, this was the opposite light batter and tender fish. I guess that's my preference. Mushy peas a bit runny and fizzy drink flat. Service attentive though restaurant was empty at the time. 2023: original review was couple of years ago. Batter seems a lot more crisper, nicely cooked and not very oily. Mushy peas tasty and thicker. Disappointing was draught beer; very flat. Would pay a little for quality tartar sauce than sachets. Handful more of chips needed. 2024 November review: fish a bit underdone.

Very Greasy over priced soggy chips and oil is not drained off the fish, oil tastes old. Never again as made me feel sick

Had a take away fish and chips before going to the Comgress theatre nearby. Very good, probably not the best in the world but certainly not the worst. Good sized portion of fish as well as chips. Not bad quality and good service. Would I go here again? Yes if I'm in the area. I would probably sit down next time as the restaurant side looked very good.

First time used them it was delivered by a nice young man who helped me understand the system using the code.

We love the old school booth style restaurant. It's like stepping back in time. Fish is good but chips soggy when we went a couple of days ago. Food seems to have declined the past few times we have gone and it can be difficult to park. Used to really enjoy going.. was a bit shocked at £50+ for 3 fish and chips and soft drinks since price rises.. We've decided we won't go again.

I don't understand how they did that. We arrived at 6.45 and they were extremely busy. At 5 past seven we had two medium cod and chips, a large haddock and chips and a spare plate (kids were sharing) in front of us. Also four big glasses of water. Both the cod and haddock were lovely and fresh and in crisp batter. The chips were lovely too and by twenty past seven there were four clean plates and a happy, well-fed family heading home to bed. Just perfect. Thank you!

Perfect place for fish and chips when leaving the beach. The fish is so tasty and has good sized portions. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Recommended this chippy by a local person. Didn't disapoint.The service was quick considering how busy it was in the resteraunt. Lovely big piece of fish and the chips were lovely too. Definitely go there again if in Eastbourne!Well done all of the staff.

Reg chips @ £3.00 is the lowest priced portion, unfortunately these are far from chip shop chunky chips, more of a favourite chicken shack style, similar to the value bags that come frozen……..

We are here 2 days ago we both had chesse burger and chips which was delicious. The place was packed they were having yo send people away, despite this service was, quick and friendly. We are going back tomorrow for fish and chips as it looked lovely

Fish cakes were burnt and copper in colour and chips were the remnants of the batch. My husband's chicken pie was also cold in the middle. So disappointed as the actual restaurant had a lovely feel to it. Sadly we won't be returning.

Good choice of dishes. Eat in or takeaway. Food was fresh & well cooked. Good crispy batter. The chips were the best I’ve had from a chip shop in a long time and a good curry sauce!

Fish cakes were burnt, pie cold in the middle and the chips were scraps left at the end of the day. We won't be returning and left very disappointed as the actual restaurant was lovely.

The female boss/manager was very rude and unpleasant. She rudely ordered us to wait outside for our food. When we were unpacking the food to check it on an outside table, she rudely shouted don’t put stuff on that table as it belongs to the next restaurant. Very poor customer service. No niceties. No common decency. The other lady at the till was also indifferent. We ate our food on the beach. The fish was ok yet soggy and too oily and the chips oily too. We had only gone here because the reviews (stars) were slightly more than the pelican fish and chips restaurant. We were misled and I would not go to this place again. I wish we had gone to the Pelican one. I think some of us in the group were the wrong colour.

Late walk with the dog along the seafront and stumbled across this GEM. A large portion of chops to share (take out) which we took to the beach. 1st class, hot, crispy with a soft middle. Everything you'd want from a portion of chips. Why waste money going to a 'named' Shop when the best is right here

Best fish and chips I've ever had in my life. Emily, the waitress is a legend, super friendly, and delivers great service, and the food is impeccable. I'm going to dream of this until I can return again!

Great place for fish and chips. We had the small cod and chips and for me, it was totally enough food. The chips were not oily and they could have been a bit more crispy. But overall, really good food.

Worse customer service I've ever experienced. Absolutely shocking. I've recommended this chippy but the last two times this has been our experience.

Chips were more like oven french fries and tasted like they'd just used frozen chips, fish was wet and not pleasant and wet like it was also not fresh and had been frozen.

This is the only fish and chips restaurant that we visit when in Eastbourne. I have been coming here since I was very young and it has never faulted us. The decor and cutlery might make it look dated but don't let it put you off. The fish, chips and mushy peas/sauces are amazing!

After a day watching Tennis, we wanted a simple dinner before bed. The matriarch shouted at us, shouted at her staff. Intimidating. The fish was soggy, chips bland. No ketchup. My friends wanted to sit inside, she shouted at us that we couldn't, even though there were tables. I sat on beach. Fish was bland. It's a tourist ripoff. No offer of salt and vinegar. She seemed to hate every person in there. Customer and staff member. Horrible experience.

We pop by based on the Tripadvisor rating, but we didn’t leave satisfied. The service wasn’t friendly and all felt a big rushed. Food was okay, but a bit dry. I also feel I was cheated when paying. They wrote prices down that didn’t align to the items. My son and I checked and it was £5 less than the bill. When I flagged that the young waiter took the bill away and when he came back he gave me a few coins back with poor explanation. I still didn’t agree and attempted summing it up on my mobile in front of him, but I was rushed away that I made a mistake. I left with a feeling like the whole thing was or orchestrated. I wish I took a picture of the bill, as I hate to be taken advantage off.

Chips are poor, no real taste, not great looking, oily...Wouldn't be surprised if they were reheated. Fish was nice but nearly £3 for mushy peas. Wasn't well during the night either.

WHAT HAPPENED? This has been my go too Fish & Chip restaurant for ages as I thought it was great. Well no idea what happened my chips looked and tasted like they'd been sitting around, lots of small hard crunchy bits which I hate and the fish was dry and over cooked plus I ordered two tartar sauce, not sure where they went! Only good thing was my foxes had a decent meal as I couldn't eat it. I hope this is a one off and not a sign it's going down hill!

Called in for lunch after a recommendation from the owner of the furniture shop across the road from this place. Very good service and the fish was fresh and very hot. The place had a little “step back in time feel” which was lovely. The waiter was very attentive. Would highly recommend.

Arrived in Eastbourne late and was graciously accommodated 15 minutes before closing! Fish was still cooked to order though and was simply perfect! Thick juicy flakes of fresh cod with a crisp batter, all by the sea - a great way to start a weekend away! Strongly recommended...

Everytime i go here the fish and chips are superb,good service and a friendly atmosphere would recomend to everyone.

Unfortunately, the batter was soggy on both pieces of fish. Also, the portion size of the Large Chips was...not large, and I'd say a regular portion.

In Eastbourne for the day, and fancied fish and chips this is the first restaurant we came across, walked in and was seated straight away, quick service and really nice fish and chips and reasonably priced, if you didn’t want fish and chips was a good selection on the menu.

Loved this restaurant..great fish and chips. Very cosy place with excellent staff taking orders. I even left my beloved flat cap and returned next day to find thr waiter had put it aside for me. Very tasty food and a good price.

Fish was literally dripping in oil. There was so much that oozed out of the fish that it spilled out of the tray all over me! Customer service attitude when i called and mentioned it was appalling. The "boss" said the chefs were happy with what they sent out and that was the end of it, unless i brought it back which would have been a waste of time and petrol. All i expected was an apology and offer of another piece next visit (ive been quite a regular) but frankly she was not interested. Certainly needs a customer servuce course because she had no idea how to deal with a valid complaint. Usually excess oil is down to incorrect cooking temperature, un-fresh oil, or insufficient resting time. I suspect the latter because i was out the door so fast after ordering i was shocked. So for the minimal cost to them of offering a replacement piece of fish next time, they have lost my custom forever and I suggest anyone else thinks twice about going there. Eastbourne has LOADS of other fish n chip restaurants, and i imagine they treat their customers decently. #totalfail

Stopped off here after a lovely walk along the promenade we both agreed the fish and chips probably the nicest we ever had! Extremely fresh, great portion size, and the staff were very friendly. Only £11.60 for a large cod and chips! Yum!

The worst meal I ever had the staff wasn't friendly I had a chicken salad and the chicken was full of oil. I send back my salad when I asked for a manager to complain about it the response was really bad no apologies nothing at all. I had to paid for a salad that I coudnt eat it The fish and chips for my daughter was bad as well to much oil you could see the oil in the plate I know that it is fried but I could taste that the oil was not fresh it taste weird. Never recommend it I had a horrible experience. I felt so sorry for the money I spend there. Never again

Awful , arrogant female owner , who has no idea what customer service is , why state open & closing times when you don't adear to them . And to then laugh at customers when they point this out hardly endears herself to people.

Great place excuse the pun for fish and chips, been going off and on for years and never ceases to amaze how good it is, used to live in London but now live in a village local so try to go along at least once a month.

I only get to Eastbourne twice a year and make it a point to have a fish supper here when I am in town. There is a good selection of fish and it is always well done.

good food. BUT the baked beans escaped confinement and had a massive rager in the bottom of the bag. The king of the Bean people sadly passed during this unfortunate incident. He will be missed :)

The fish was very watery . I presumed been frozen and not defrosted properly . Mushy pease no taste .
