Potential customers should realise that the 2022/23 reviews are about the pub and restaurant before the new owners took over and opened on 20thJuly 2024. Now the food is great with vast, tasty portions prepared by Daryl, chef/partner. The partners are in the process of re-decorating/refurbishing and the property is beginning to look great. They have already opened an ice cream parlour/coffee bar separate from the pub restaurant. You owe it to yourself to give it a try - you won’t be disappointed!

We visited for an afternoon bite. All six of us were blown away with the quality of the food... and the portion sizes. We enjoyed it so much that we have booked again, for an evening meal tomorrow!!! Highly recommended!!!

Very impressed. This pub has recently reopened with fantastic food, large portions, very friendly and helpful staff and a lovely location, what more can you ask for. Certainly will be going again soon

Currently under new management and the food and service is brilliant. The portion size was really good, food hot, beautifully presented and delicious. Really does deserve a 6 out of 5 star.

We visited on opening night, and we simply cannot praise here enough! From the quality food, huge portions fantastic service and atmosphere, this place has risen from the ashes and deserves huge success! What a fabulous addition to the Beverley pub scene, it really is showing how a pub with food should be run! Wishing Jamie and the team all the very best of success, this place really deserves your patronage!

Pubs like the Crown and Anchor are having a difficult time right now and some of the reviews on here, last one done in August 2023 don't help. Despite that four us decided to try the Sunday lunch a couple of weeks back and it was excellent. The dining room was also full, no complaints at all. We had been in the pub before that just for drinks and found it a pleasant welcoming old fashioned pub alongside the River Hull with some decent ales on offer, Prickly Back and Sneck Dust both on song and an enjoyable afternoon was had by all. Called back again on a Friday night and the pub was beautifully decorated for Christmas with a roaring log fire giving the pub a very welcoming feel. The landlord and landlady made us feel welcome too, which helps. As a relative new comer to the local area I now consider the Crown and Anchor as my local and one of my favourite pubs in the area, I just wish it was open earlier in an afternoon we we tend to do our socialising, but I fully understand the reasons why it doesnt open until 4.00pm and not at all on a Monday and Tuesday. If we don't support these pubs they will not open at all and this one deserves support. Hence the five star rating from me.

Called in for Sunday lunch without booking, Bar Staff checked with kitchen, all ok and we were seated. The only ones in the dinning room! Service was good, not a lot of choice on Sunday but our party opted for Sunday lunches and one Scampi. Scampi was good apparently but Sunday lunch disappointing and at £14.plus not cheap. I had beef, plenty of it but it was tepid, roast potatoes well done but hard in the centre. Gravy was thin and tasteless. Rest of roasted veg were good. Other half had pork, which was hot, but same complaint with the potatoes and gravy. Shame as it's in a lovely place and could do so much better.

Many flies in the restsurant, spoilt the meal, no apology let alone offer of recompense. They come in the doors during the summer (when customers come in?). Never heard this before! Will return when we once again hear good reports. Clearly there is a problem

Stopped for lunch. Outside table near canal with our dog, however for most likely health and safety reasons you can't sit right next to the canal and eat. Good choice of food, alcohol free drinks available. Good value, good food, good location, good service, what more do you need?

Nice pub but fish & chips worst I’ve ever had and I eat fish & chips three times a week and it’s my favourite food The fish was tasty but the batter was soft and slimy not crispy Chips were over cooked wedges dark brown in colour but very soft in the middle like they had been warmed up It was our wedding anniversary and the first time we had out to take our puppy into a pub Wife said her chicken tenders were over cooked and the side salad was not very good so she left that waitress nice girl but didn’t have a clue Asked for salad dressing said they didn’t have any but I noticed the lettuce with the tenders had brown splashes on it that looked like balsamic vinegar so I asked for some of that Very disappointed with it been or wedding anniversary

Popped in for lunch yesterday. Ham hock terrine, chicken starters. Followed by steak pie and the Thai chicken. Meals were average but priced fairly. Drinks were good, areas were clean. The guy behind the bar was lovely, really friendly and welcoming, only let down was the lady (I’m assuming the land lady) behind the bar who ‘welcomed’ us. If we’d not have been so hungry, we’d not have ordered.

A lovely traditional pub with great homemade food and a nice atmosphere. Options are great. Veggie and vegan options too! The price is very reasonable. I will definitely come again. Staff are super friendly. I used to come here with my parents as a kid so it was nice to be back with my boyfriend. He loved his food too 😁

We chose to visit this pub due to its location and the easy access to the river for paddle boarding. On arrival at the car park we were met with a very grumpy landlady who didn’t seem happy that we were parking within the pub car park. We explained that although some of the party were going to use the river, half of the party would be coming into the pub for drinks and food. Her reaction was ‘it’s already hard enough’, not sure what was meant by that! We asked if they were serving food, to which she replied no, we’re not usually open on a Monday, so we ordered drinks. Whilst at the bar food was brought out to a table. Due to the abrupt attitude of the land lady we decided to sit outside rather than remain in the pub. We were very disappointed with the unwelcoming reception received and as we are local to the area, we would definitely have come back again, but this will not be happening, such a shame!

We visited on Saturday lunch time, very quiet, surprised by how unloved the environment felt, wonky pictures and tired decor, so not as comfortable as expected. Very limited menu, the meals we ordered took long time to arrive, not good for a lunch. The food was nicely cooked and the service was good. Although the lack of choice means we are unlikely to return soon.

I had never been to the Crown and Anchor and always passed in the car hoping to one day pop by. My husband stopped on this particular Saturday for us to share a spontaneous lunch here. Whilst the environment unique the decor was very tired and dirty the staff serving were lovely but the food left little to be desired. The menu was listed as temporary and very minimal, and the only real meal we could order was Fish and Chips. My fish had a rubbery skin that stuck to the batter and the fish had hard lumpy flaky bits in it. However my husbands appeared ok. The chips had skins left on so were pretty much wedges. When asked how our meal was we provided feedback however the chef made no attempt to discuss our experience or compensate for the meal. Not that we were looking for compensation or requested it but a conversation with the chef would have been welcomed. We will be unfortunately continuing to drive past this establishment forever more. Hope that our feedback will help others when paying good money for little return value.

Having had an evening meal there, which was beautiful, and couldn't be faulted, we were keen to try the Sunday lunch. How disappointing! We both chose Braised Beef with Red Wine sauce. Unfortunately, mine didn't have a lot of sauce so some of the meat was dry, and a little tough. The portion sizes were very small. I had 2 small roast potatoes which were hard and dry, and a very small amount of mashed potatoes. I asked if there were any more roast potatoes, and the waitress did ask but was told "no there aren't, sorry". The general feeling was that they were trying to share the food out to too many customers. We both mentioned it to a different waitress at the end, who said she would pass it on. Hopefully they will take heed of this review, and think about what is being served. Unfortunately, we won't be returning, and instead will go back to the Swan at Seaton.

Sadly we had the Sunday lunch here and unfortunately as much as I hate giving bad reviews, this meal really wasn’t worth it! We each had one pork and one beef dinner! Mash potatoes and gravy tasteless which I would say tasted more like powdered mix for both !! Where was the seasoning? Meat was ok but have we had much much better in other places Vegs of cauliflower broccoli and tiny pieces of carrot where all over cooked witb the carrots burnt and shrivelled! Broccoli as my husband said looked limp and sad and well past it’s sell by date before cooking. The roasties where no better and no stuffing with the pork ! Very average but above all tasteless, good gravy counts for a good Sunday dinner but when tasteless what’s the point? It’s not hard to get a tasty gravy .. I can never understand a poor Sunday lunch if cooked properly yet so few get it right!! Sadly C & A haven’t either.

Having read past reviews this pub must have changed hands. It has bags of potential but not under current management. Ordered food and one of the meals that arrived was incorrect. When we pointed this out we were firmly told that is what we ordered....

Had a really amazing meal here back in August. One steak and three Yorkshire pudding pies. Everyone really enjoyed their meals. Desserts were good too. The chocolate mousse was massive! Staff were very friendly and there were plenty of hand sanitizer depensers located throughout.

We waited an hour for eggs and toast. Owner only cared about Door Dash orders going out the door. Given that Courtenay has so many great casual dining places, give this one a pass. Give your business to restaurants that care about providing good service to their customers.

Went today for lunch , I decided i was having soup , they said it was the last portion so that was fine , I asked for no bread which , when it came it was the smallest half bowl of soup for £6.25 , I didn’t want anything knocking off for not having the bread but did expect a full dish, looking at the menu I could of had a small breakfast, or sandwich for about the same price , it’s soup where do they get over £6 for it!!
