The Welcome at the pub was very friendly and the atmosphere was also very friendly, the food menu is superb and can highly recommend the steak and Blue cheese sandwich - Excellent! The range of real ale and drinks is also of a very good standard. Sophie, who looked after us during lunch was very knowledgeable, friendly and has a great personality and sense of humour. I can't recommendenough stopping off for lunch or dinner at this great country pub.

Four generations of our family gathered together for a lunch party at The Crown, (our local for the last 50 odd years), on Saturday, to celebrate a 'significant'birthday, and wish a granddaughter well on her imminent return to Australia. Trying to assemble 16 of us together at the same time had its challenges ! The occasion was a joy, the welcome, the ambiance, the delicious food and wine and the attention to detail and effort to make sure all ran smoothly by the manageress, Amber, was exceptional. We all had an uplifting and happy day. Thank you The Crown.

Had a family get-together today - location is ideal for people travelling from opposite ends of the M4. Excellent lunch - we pre-ordered, which made everything very smooth, and the food itself was fantastic. Big portions, good variety, high quality. Dogs and toddlers made welcome, as were we all by the friendly service. We'll be back. Maybe at Beltane.

Returned here for the umpteenth time and was not disappointed. Real ales, great food and great service are par for the course here. The warm beef salad is absolutely delicious! Don't bother with the Blue Boar (the only other pub in the village) until they have replaced the insignificant little twerp who currently serves as the landlord there.

After being greeted by a Dalek outside the pub, I went inside and had a lovely meal of sausages and mash. The female member of staff behind the bar on the day was nice, friendly and made me feel welcome. There was a bit of a wait for the food but it was all worth it in the end as it was so good and with a generous portion too. I'd come back here for a meal anytime. A great pub.

The worst Sunday meal. Totally hap hazard service to start our experience.. I ordered beef and my friend had the pork. My meat was not tasty & very chewy; the pork was not cut from a joint and had an ‘aniseed’ taste. The vegetables were awful. When I asked for horseradish sauce, I was given mayonnaise.

I'm a village local and a frequent visitor to the Crown. Last night was the best meal I've ever had there, and best anywhere for quite some time. The chicken terrine starter was flavoursome and the accompanying 'garnish' tastefully done and presented. The wild boar sausage and duck confit was cooked just right and the squash/bean combination very well flavoured and seasoned. I wasn't going to have a dessert but given the previous I did and the baked white chocolate and cranberry cheesecake was spot on. Congrats to Dan the Chef.

Wonderful stay at the Crown. Gorgeous country pub with some beautiful rooms to stay in. Extremely comfy bed, nice bathroom, clean and tidy. Felt very comfortable there. Despite covid, there was a warm welcome, made to feel at home. Food excellent. It's a perfect place to stop off, enjoy some country walks, and head back to the crown to be fed and watered and sleep. Would very much recommend The Crown. It is a nice little spot, but its best asset is Alan, the owner, who greets you, checks on your during your stay, makes cheeky comments with a glint in his eye, and essentially makes you feel like a very welcome guest. Go for a night. You'll come away content and refreshed.

We decided to try lunch here after driving past and seeing the vegi/vegan board out side. The pub itself is a little shabby and the garden needs a little tidy up. However nothing offensive. We looked at the menus which didn't contain a single vegi option, after asking the lady at the bar, who was very helpful, the chef appeared and offers to make us a vegi option. All though this didn't appeal to us he offered to do an open sandwich completely vegi for us. The young lady offered to help me to the garden as I'm currently on crutches. We ate in the garden and the chef came out to talk to us about the food. It was very impressive, plentiful, well presented and obviously very fresh. The chef was friendly and told us he's always willing to make a vegan/vegi option from scratch. Great food, good price, lovely staff make all the diffenece. The only reason not a five star is because of the zero vegi option on the actual menu. If we hadn't of asked we probably would have left. Would definatly eat here again.

Yet again, we popped in for a bite to eat and once again, the food was fantastic. My wife liked the look of the fish and chips, but being a coeliac was hesitant, but the chef came out and said he’d make her a gluten-free batter and having done so, it was excellent. We have had lunch at the Crown on quite a few occasions, problem is, the lunches vary so much in taste and quality, not to long ago I dined with my grandson, I can easily say it was one of the best Sunday lunches I had ever had, this last meal wasn't the worst but it wasn't a patch on the one that I had with my grandson, beef was a bit rare, not to everyone's taste but suited me, if there had been a little more on the plate, I made a comment and another very small slice was brought from the kitchen, roast potatoes were underdone and the parsnips had a very odd taste, the rest of the veg was ok but again a bit thin on the ground (plate)For £10-00 I would have expected a bit more for my money. The Crown Inn Albourne WiltshireWe’d stopped off for lunch in Albourne on our way from Oxford to Avebury – to see the stone circles and the henge; it was a convenient place mid-day. Great images of old country and times past but also a glimpse of modern-day rural England at its best. It was a cloudy day, buy warm and humid. A light meal and a beer would go down a treat. The pub looked inviting. The main menu started at around £12 and headed north, but then we did not really want a cooked meal but preferred a salad, sandwich or similar. Final choice sandwiches were cheese & chutney and meat & avocado; no butter with the first and no mayonnaise with the second - please. Costs, respectively, £6 & £9. We ordered a pint of Peroni (I think it was) and half cider. Total cost for the meal was £23 – so a little on the expensive side for what we’d ordered.More so when the sandwiches served were open – set on a bun with no top bread – and there was mayonnaise in the second one. This rather spoiled that particular sandwich. We sat outside in the garden area at the rear; the domain of the smokers as-it-turned-out – friendly people coming and going and sadly puffing away - but in our eating area. We were the only ones eating there.Out front on the road there were more tables, with people eating and a few cars slowly driving through the the village. This is where you absorb that rural Englishness that reminds you of all those classic historical novels (and that entertaining television murder series).Service was friendly and quick. There was even an apology for the mayonnaise.Afficiandos of the scifi Doctor Who BBC series will enjoy the stage props scattered around the front of the pub, including a miniature and classical blue police telephone box (that just about harks back to the original Bow Street Runners). They’d all gone from the streets by the late 1970s. Peter SteeleRome

Nice atmosphere inside, decent ish beer selection. Don't expect any rare or craft ales here but the real ale on tap was good. Staff friendly and food is nice. Although they cremated the pizzas we ordered and put the wrong toppings on everyone's pizzas once, but we ate a couple of times and everything else was fine the other times so we put it down to a one off

Reading the negative comments about the pub and I tend to believe they are made up or the people writing them are expecting Michelin stars galore. And the lady commenting about ' the natives' needs to stay off the drugs. You'll never meet a friendlier bunch of people.Nobody is xenophobic or anti visitor.Alan's done a great job with The Crown and as a relatively newcomer to Aldbourne ( 4 years) I'd say it's the best local I've ever had.The foods great, especially the homemade pizzas. So, if your thinking about visiting The Crown then ignore the crap reviews as the good ones accurately reflect what The Crown is like.Plus the beers cheaper than the other pub 200 yds away!! Lol!!!

This is a hidden gem. The menu is not extensive but oh my word the food is way above expectations. I ordered Crispy Smoked Confit of Duck and thoroughly enjoyed the taste. The presentation was imaginative and was a feast for the eyes. Desserts were yummy and homemade! You certainly won't leave The Crown hungry. Sunday lunch is amazing. I would definitely recommend this pub if you are in the area.

I stop at The Crown a lot, on business, and always enjoy the food but recently they have employed a new chef who has upped the food stakes even more. Tasty, freshly cooked and very reasonably priced with a seasonal menu alongside old favourites. There is a choice of eating in the bar alongside the locals (great beer by the way) or in the quieter restaurant area to the rear.

A group of us turned up unplanned at The Crown and received a warm welcome from the landlord and the food, ingredients and presentation of our lunch was a pleasant surprise. There is a new chef who has started four months ago, and he was very chatty and happy to listen to our feedback. I can highly recommend the food here and highly suggest you try it for yourself.....and by the way, don't push the button on the Dalek!

We came here with friends and checked before they'd allow the dogs in - they were fine with them in the bar and in fact there were plenty of people with pooches and lots of locals which made for a nice atmosphere with the fire going too. Really busy bank holiday lunch service but service was quick and the food really good; also some local beers. Recommended for a good country pub.

We visited here last Saturday after tossing a coin between here and The Blue Boar for a few drinks both before and during the rugby. The first time we visited (around lunchtime) we ordered our drinks from the barmaid who wouldn't crack a smile and then headed to their lovely beer garden to enjoy the sun. Despite their bog-standard beer selection, we were enjoying the sun and we decided to stay for another one. This time we were served by the landlord who was very nice and confirmed the Wales v England game would be shown. We went back to our holiday home to eat and arrived just before the game started. There were four of us sitting near the TV (after checking the seats were free) and minding our own business. Over the course of the game, we had 2-3 drinks each and as I said, apart from one of the (Welsh supporting) locals talking to our Welsh friend minded our own business. We asked the barmaid if the story about the crown displayed in the bar was true and she just shrugged and said "dunno..."As we got up to leave, some of the locals started shouting at us "sling 'yer 'ooks and never come back!" and "good riddance". We were confused why they were saying this to us. We hadn't engaged with anyone, been respectful and quiet throughout the whole game. The only thing that could have upset them was one of our party (who is actually English) was wearing a Scotland shirt, but was cheering on both sides. Long story short, don't flip the coin - just go to The Blue Boar.

I rang the Crown early in the week and spoke to a man who I assumed was the landlord, I asked if I could book a room for one night on the 15/3/2016 this date was showing vacancies on the web site booking facility and he said he was having trouble with his computer but took my details and said he would ring me if there was a problem. I heard nothing so assumed I was booked in. I rang on the evening of the 11/3/2016 to enquire if it was possible to arrive on the Monday and stay for two nights instead of one. The phone was answered by a woman who said I was not coming up on here screen and in any case they were full that night and I should never have been given the booking and although I had told her my name three times she then said was I sure I was not Mr Burges, I assured here I was not and rang off.
