I can see a lot of negative reviews for this place regarding security in the evenings. I have never been here in the evenings so this review is for the breakfasts and I have been here for breakfast several times over the past year. The breakfast is amazing. Excellent value for money. Amazing service every time. Friendly staff and fast service. This is my main place for breakfast in Berkhamsted. And they do unlimited coffees which is great. Huge place with lots of tables. Highly recommend.

Nice atmosphere for a wetherspoons, sat in the outside area and had some food with the family. Big thank you to Yasemin who was very friendly and helpful making sure all our food and drinks were okay!

Food is great for the money. Drinks are always good, they even got some Port in especially for my husband who asked for it. Have always found the staff friendly and helpful. Haven't encountered the door staff as always gone by the time they arrive. Sam Bignell the server is always smart, clean and extremely polite.

service from sam bignell was unbelivable, i’m so happy he is my server. Unbelivable character and the way that he controlled himself walking through the middle of the bar was second to none. Could play right wing for city.

The security team were a disgrace. Unwelcoming and antagonistic. I said evening to the lady on the door but all I got was a grunt back and a blank stare. The empties were also left on the table all night. We ended up with approx 30 glasses at the end of the night and the pub wasn't overly busy

well know through the town the door woman trudy is absolutely horrendously rude she ruins that place !! She abuses her power

the door staff are disgraceful. the doorwoman is rude and vile. i frequently visit and have never had an issue whilst there, i arrived with my children on Christmas eve to be told i am banned, she didn't even have the decency to look me in the face and instead hugged the door hid away. absolutes no way to behave. i'm not surprised she got fired from her previous pub in Hemel, she should have her licensee revoked for abuse of power. given your most recent reviews all show the same dont you think its time something was done about this? renew your staff!

As someone who’s worked in security the lady on the door is horrendous! Was waiting for a taxi home and asked if she alright… she was obnoxious and arrogant. She’s already been sacked from the white heart in Hemel old town for being rude. She’s clearly in the wrong line of work. Absolutely disgusting behaviour. Have reported to the pub personally. SIA have been informed.

Decent little pub but the female doorwoman who works on the weekend is absolutely destroying that place. I thought maybe it was just me that always seems to have a run in with her but speaking to friends in the town it seems everyone gets the same treatment. I wouldn't mind but we are all in our 40s and are polite where we go in.

the bouncer treated us so poorly by allowing everyone to cut in line. I've never been so appalled by bouncers talking to me before. By even shouting at me to “shut my noise” I’ve never been so disgusted with such a place if they’re willing to have staff like that, says it all. absolutely disgusting and will not be returning I wouldn't return to this place under any circumstances due to the worst two bouncers I’ve ever met. VILE.

Husband and I went to Berko last night to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. Popped into The Crown for a drink before we went for meal and went to the bar. It wasn’t particularly busy, there was one lady being served and us waiting. There were 3 staff members behind the bar and not really sure what they were doing but not one of them acknowledged us. We were completely ignored. Then two other gentlemen came to the bar to be served and one of the girls behind the bar apologised for keeping him waiting and said she would be with him in a minute! I was completely shocked so we decided to leave and won’t be returning. Not the way to treat customers. I have put a complaint in, will see if I get a response.

Just got served by one of the rudest members of staff ever. Blond and glasses and just foul. I’m not the only one who has encountered this hostility from behind the ramp. This individual would be better suited working in a coal mine not customer facing. Ignorant !!!!!

Rude staff. No signs outside to say dogs not allowed at out side tables. Weren’t able to finish drink and had to leave as made to feel very uncomfortable.

OMG! What on earth?? Advertised open till 12pm. No admittance after 11pm although not advertised as such. But the unnecessary heavy handed attitude of the door staff who were unable to explain their decision. Manager was asked for who stood by door staff. It felt very upsetting as we’ve frequented regularly without this confrontation in the past? Don’t understand how our night ended this way. But feel very sour that we were deemed trouble makers.

The women who stands at the door on most Friday and Saturday evenings, checking id’s and letting people in has a disgusting attitude and is so unnecessarily rude. I’m sure most of the crown would agree.

Ordered the 3 plates for £13.50. They were discounted to £12 👍 happy with that. I had loaded chips, chicken bits and mini pizza. Food was basic but as always, did the job. You really can’t grumble at the price vs quantity. The Berkhamsted Wetherspoons is so much nicer than the one in Hemel Hempstead.

I visited The Crown on a Sunday evening for a couple of drinks with friends. We sat in the garden terrace as it was a pleasant evening; the pub was not overly busy for a summer evening. We used the app to order food and a cheeky dessert. In this case, the food arrived before the drinks. The second round we purchased took over 20 minutes to arrive. I spoke to a member of staff in regard to this wait, to which I was told “there’s a massive backlog”- there were two orders showing on the system. I was also informed that they had been sent out and delivered; this turned out to be true, it was just not to our table. It appears that they require more, or maybe just more competent, staff.

Went here for dinner. Asked staff if they had separate menu for gluten free dishes, was told to look on the screen for allergies , nothing on there for gluten free or on menus. They accommodate vegetarians which is a choice, we’re as gluten free...

Went for lunch on a Sunday. Food was good and value for money. Service all seems too much trouble and did feel like we were doing them a favour. Might be reasonably priced but doesn't mean staff have to be surly.

We went for breakfast on New Year’s Day wasn’t too busy so breakfast arrived in 10 minutes. We had to return it as it was barely warm. Someone came and apologised and said they would sort it 10 minutes later another breakfast appeared couldn’t believe it as this one was also cold. We ate some and then left never to return. The crown is a wonderful pub featuring a bar and some arcade games. They celebrate upcoming holidays and always has a cheap price they are family friendly and have outdoor seating with nice open space. The food is as good as an expensive meal at a fancy restaurant but with a cheaper price. I recommend this pub to everyone who wishes to have a good meal that sets your stomach for the day.

A nice place to eat, cheap and cheerful. Good food and good service. I'd happily return to eat or drink here.

Hi if you want to visit a weatherspoons pub during the week, welcome to this peach of a weatherspoons, finish work after an early start and want to relax with a pint? Well you have a gem of a place here? Pint of carlsberg and a kroningburg please, get a filthy look, poured pints , slammed on bar pretty much, paid via card, no thanks nothing, if you really want an experience of the most rude none people friendly place to go for a pint, u have found this little gem, my advice to this individual is that you havnt found the right job move on, you are rude beyond belief! A great standard pub in the middle of the town with plenty of seating . Good for large groups and a place to meet up with friends

Went here and had a burger which was really lovely. It was a great price and I couldn’t fault it on value for money. Considering some of the reviews on here I was pleasantly surprised and would recommend a visit.

Literally left about 30 minutes ago with my school friend for him to be told “good luck” by one of the bouncers. Apparently women can’t meet friends platonically here!

Only place in town with cheap beer and open late. Do not go unless you are 16-21. You will not find it good.

Decided to attend for a work lunch with some colleagues. It was a really hot day and we arrived, went outside and the tables were there dirty with no one sat at them, he asked a gentleman if he could kindly clean the table so we could sit there. He said yes and came and took a few items. We were then sat there for 10 minutes and he didn't return to take the remaining items or clean the table, there were wasps all over the empty glasses.

We were a group of golfers playing the surrounding area and popped in for a few beers, which as is the way with these things turned into a few more. Got hungry and had enough wings to feed an army! You know where you are and what you are going to get at Wetherspoons and this one was very good.

Just been asked to leave the crown as we were sitting at a 2 person table in the side passage,not the smart pub garden,because we had 2 cocker spaniels lying quietly under the table, whilst I was getting 2 coffees. No signs up anywhere saying no dogs, but just in front of us in the no Smoking area 4 well beered men f'ing and blinding and smoking. After my husband pointed out there were no signs up,they did refund our money. Ps we are not resident in the Uk, but on a canal boat trip.

Went there with a friend for a meal as we haven't been there for ages and now I know why! The service was appalling. The bar staff were young women and quite frankly were rude. We went to the bar they totally ignored us and serviced all the male customers first even though we were at the bar first. The next time it happened I had to point out the barmaid that I was next to be served and she glared at me and then with a very surly attitude served me. Same thing happened to my friend. Would I go there again no - for what we paid and the poor service we would have had better service and meal at a fast food chain the southern fried chicken was overcooked, the coleslaw so so, but the chips were ok.

Went in for sunday breakfast and it was excellent. Food quality was good, free coffee refills, nice atmosphere and staff also very good. Can't reccommend it highly enough and it is so inexpensive.

There was so much of this restaurant that I liked. I liked the staff, the atmosphere, the different areas in which to dine, the specially commissioned carpet which matches the gables, the historical photos and texts on the wall, the calorific values on the menu, the inhouse magazine on each table,the unlimited coffee, the chocolate powder to sprinkle on cappuccinos, the ladies toilet, the quality of food, the prompt service, the value. I had a tuna mayo jacket potato, with an ample side salad and unlimited coffee for only £4.59. I will definitely go there again.

I visited with family and after seeing the bouncer (a bald man with tattoos) ignore violent behaviour he then proceeded to act very abusive and in an unprofessional way. In order to be a better venue this place needs to replace its current, aggressive bouncer.

A large pub with a great selection of drinks that is well laid out. Man in charge behind the bar was moody and probably should have have been working this day. Bouncers extremely unapproachable and let things happen that they really should have dealt with but didn't. If anything one of them (Ricky) I believe his name is was rude and unhelpful. It was as if he was looking for trouble and blew kisses to some lads he had asked to leave. BEWARE OF HIM ....

Lovely place for a quick bite to eat and cheap when you have kids to buy for. The food is lovely never had an issue and the staff are always friendly. The crown looks more inviting now it’s been refurbished

Visited there for lunch. Visited their website to check address and get postcode for my satnav. When we arrived at Northchurch the satnav said we had arrived!!

The Crown is a Wetherspoon’s pub, situated on Berkhamsted’s busy High Street, which occupies a lovely old building that has probably been a pub in one form or another since the sixteenth century. Food is typical Wetherspoon’s fare, good pub grub served at reasonable prices. I like the fact that the menu includes the calorie count, and the breakfast meal deals include unlimited tea or coffee. Don’t expect fine dining, but Wetherspoon’s has found its niche in the market, and it does that niche very well.

I went into the crown for my daughters birthday with all our friends and family. We received excellent service from a waitress called Mia. She showed us were kids menus were, handed us our food, collected sauces for us as we had young children who we couldn’t leave unattended, made sure our food was perfect and took away all of our plates within 5 minutes of the last person eating. We will definitely be returning to the crown for future events and will be recommending to our friends and family.

Ordered a pizza politely at the bar and was met with the rudest barmaid ever. I’m appalled at her terrible attitude. Can’t quite believe it. I guess it is the end of the evening and she’s maybe had a hard shift but really? Surely her job is to be welcoming and friendly. I won’t be coming back and I will be telling as many people as I can not to bother either.

Went to the crown in Berkhamsted, myself and two friends decided we wanted a few drinks and a cheap meal from their ‘curry night menu’, we eventually got our first round of drinks. It was fairly busy but not ‘rammed’! When attempting to order a second round I was stood slightly sideways to the bar holding my money out whilst continuing my conversation with my friends, after 10 minutes I looked round to see if any of the staff was available for service and was told by the staff member ( who looked like a young ginger George Dawes) that because I was ‘waving’ my money at him he served anyone else but myself! I stated I wasn’t ‘waving my money’ but merely holding it out in the universal language of bar patrons the world over indicating my wish to be served. He begrudgingly served us, needless to say we left after those drinks and went to the veranda curry house where we were treated like kings and had a superb meal. Thank you for reminding me Witherspoon’s that you get what you pay for, Cheap drinks and food does not make up for slow rude impertinent staff!

Nice lunch today in the Crown that had been refurbished. The service at the bar was very friendly and prompt. The big mixed grill and serloin steak were very tasty and good value. The Crown retains the old pub look at the front whilst the rear there is a more open area. Definitely worth visiting.

After a full day of walking in the area we came to this Wetherspoons as a group of 4. The place was busy at 4.30pm but we found a table and ordered our food and drinks. Both were brought promptly and all the food was hot and had no problems. The toilets were upstairs and were clean and usable. Whilst the staff were mainly young and tattoed we had no complaints over the service for the price paid.

I ate here today with family after scattering my fathers ashes. My food arrived cold so I asked for it to be warmed up. The rest of my seven family members ate their meals and mine never arrived. Fifteen minutes afterwards I asked for my money back. What was supposed to be a special day very quickly became a day to remember for the wrong reasons!!!!!

The Crown is a traditional pub with modern touches that offers good value food and drink at reasonable prices. I came in for breakfast on a Sunday Morning and overall was very impressed with the food and the service. The pubs interior is nice although it is quite dark on the inside. Not a must visit but a decent choice if you are in the area.

Went for a meal today at the crown Berkhamsted after some good meals over the past fortnight with friends with time of work dropped in with my wife after recommendation from me , however was not happy as the part of restaurant we sat in was infested with flies making it impossible to finish the meal and my pint had flies in it which I left along with meal . As we were still hungry we popped next door to the kings arms , after major refurb I don’t know how flies are able to breed in such numbers , dont think our group will be returning

We’ve eaten here on many occasions and always found it nice food, good service and great value for money. Today we had the much advertised pizzas and wish we hadn’t bothered. Extremely dry, no toppings and tasteless. Stick to what you’re good at Wetherspoons.

all the staff are friendly & the food was great, overall excellent service. the new toilets are sooo nice along with the newly refurbed garden. there’s a lot more space now both indoors and out. food usually comes out in under ten minutes except for when it’s extremely busy then it’s usually under twenty. a great lively atmosphere in the evening too. definitely worth the wait!

Everything was so nice! The food was fresh and hot and quick! The hot wings are so good! The burgers are big and tasty! And everything is a really good price! Loved it! Will be there every weekend! ❤️

I tried to have a meal at this pub but was told it was a invite only, I mean its Wetherspoon not a fancy gastro pub. The staff member on the entrance was rude and made no attempt to say sorry we can't serve you today just kept repeating "Invite only your not coming in" My advice is go next door the Kings Arms was great.

Service was quick.... staff were friendly. However, the quality of food was poor. Member of our group Specifically asked staff for mixed grill meats to be cooked 'well done'.... was served medium rare with inner meat still pink. One of the meats , pork, was substituted with another, not a massive problem but customers should be advised accordingly on any menu change. Managed to organise a refund on mixed grill .... however as a few chips had been eaten off the plate £3 was deducted!!! Whilst notifying staff of concerns another customer was also complaining about meat not being cooked enough. Response from weatherspoon staff..."we have new staff in kitchen"!! Lame, weak, not professional, as a resident of Berkhamsted I will not be returning to their new 'flagship' pub. Such a shame. The crown will never rid itself of its reputation....

Good food, service really good,nice atmosphere dunebar £1.49 a pint and they top it up for you without you having to ask.

The food is what you would expect from a Weatherspoon--good and value for money.However,the actual establishment is really in need of a "make over"--it is very dark --perhaps they use low energy light bulbs--and the decor is faded and tired and the carpets look like they have seen better days.An across the board rang of patrons makes for interesting background entertainment and at times the language really did need to be toned down particularly as there were children present.The staff were helpful and friendly enough but a smile when greeting you wouldn't have gone amiss.Not the best Weatherspoon that I have frequented but not the worst either.

I've been going in the crown for almost 20 years now, and it's never really changed. Great for having a cheap pint and cheap average food. Not the place at the weekend for a quiet drink, certainly some sites to be seen.

Popped in Sunday afternoon for a couple of drinks before lunch at the Thai next door. Good pub, loads of space, quick service, cheaper than most pubs in the area with friendly staff. Worth visiting

An old-fashioned pub experience. The pub looks small from the street, but is enormous inside, with lots of seating and a big garden area at the rear. It was very busy on a Friday lunchtime, but coping well. Staff are friendly and helpful. Part of my order obviously got lost in translation and the wrong dish was served, but the mistake was corrected immediately and without any fuss. Drink prices are some of the lowest I've seen recently. The food is basic, but perfectly adequate. Bustling atmosphere. Not a place to linger, but if you want a cheap and cheerful lunch, this would be a good choice.

We regularly frequent many different wetherspoons and this was very typical. We sat at the back behind the large staircase, we found this area very dark, the overall feel of the place was scruffy, but we had a good time and enjoyed the wine prices, compared to other establishments. Due to the prices we will probably be back!

Went in for a well deserved drink, came out having watched a free Jeremy Kyle show. So much for enjoying my beer when all I could smell was pale ale and sweat from bald overweight football hooligans.

A group of us did the Berkhamsted Heritage Walk (which was very enjoyable) and then popped into The Crown for lunch. Being a Thursday it was Curry day so we got a vegetarian curry including naan, rice and 2 poppadoms, plus a drink for a great value £6.75. Hard to beat and it was very tasty. Good service from the staff.

I have been in and out of here for years and yes it needs a lick of paint but the prices and food are honest and cheap the garden is good.

Not been here before and was pleased with the food, garden and service. Had the lamb shank with mash and gravey. Perfect comfort food.

Met some friends for lunch. Food came out together and no problems. Staff friendly. The place could do with a bit of a makeover but good value for money.

So, it's a Spoons. Cheap but decent beer, not enough people behind the bar, lots of people eating. No blaring music, and nice premises. I'm happy to have a pint here.

So had an event in Berko in the evening and could not bear the thought of having to wait till 10:30 pm or so to eat and being solo and with my budget being a bit tight towards the end of the month opted for Wetherspoons for a decent feed without splashing out too much. The Crown did not disappoint and their steak option with a drink provided just what was needed. Seemed much quieter than many "spoons" I've been to early evening but that meant service was quick and efficient so I was not complaining.

We had a good lunch here and very reasonably priced. We each had spicy prawns and shared a portion of chips and requested a side of sour cream, unfortunately they also added cheese and bacon on top so a little more than we required. Still great food great prices.

Fantastic night like all weatherspoons great staff great food and nice beer only issue I have is i do wish they could have an area by the bar that was clear instead of people lounging all over as it makes harder to get served .

Great atmosphere, really warm staff. I did not catch the young ladies name, but promote her. Very friendly nothing too much to ask.

Arrived at the doors at 00:28, was told quite rudely by the security guards (A medium sized bald bloke and an overly weight women who didn't seem like they were doing much apart from supporting her own body weight on the side of the building) that they were closed even though it specifys above the doors in writing that they close at 01:00, as it does on their website too and on trip advisor it self!... This is the first wetherspoons pub I have been denied entry at before the actual closing time and am surprised that security guards are allowed to control the flow of business at this time. I was not impressed at all with the customer service of this establishment and would not recommend this to anyone looking to enjoy their night out in Berkhamsted, if I were you I would look somewhere else. And if I were wetherspoons I would look into retraining or hiring new staff.

Jeez... only £1.99 a pint... it's £5 in London so gets my vote..! We had an hour to kill at lunch time on a Saturday and everywhere else seemed to be packed. The Crown looks very "olde worlde" from the outside, and I'm sure parts of the building have been around for quite a long time, however they have added a large, airy modern extension on the back with a proper pizza oven and serve a wide selection of food. Simple sandwich was fine and the pizzas looked good too. Staff were all very friendly and efficient and it kind of works if you don't mind lots of families and noisy children.

Weatherspoons prices are very competitive so I guess there will always be a compromise somewhere, so I suggest the compromise in this pub is the speed of service.

Witherspoon - got what what was expected. Old looking pub with a few tired features and beginning to look a bit worn around the edges. Friendly bar staff, very deceptive lenght of bar and seating area - it seemed to go on for ages. Quite busy with lots of people eating. Toilets ok but could do with a face lift. Overall happy and might go again.

Use this pub for meeting up with friends. Very good beer and a great choice of bitters and good prices. The food menu is typical pub food but with good prices and the calories on it too. Always enjoy meeting in the Crown.

I am local to Berkhamsted and I regularly go to the crown with friends and family for lunch and drinks, it's a nice pub with outdoor seating and very good prices!
