The Crown in Islington

Very nice pub with great food. We visited on Sunday and, of course, ordered a Sunday roast, which turned out to be a bullseye, the best Sunday roast I have had in years. Perfect meat and a generous amount of vegetables. I recommend it and will definitely come back.

Was just very average I’m afraid. All a bit confused between being a bit gastro and doing table service whilst neglecting those waiting at the bar. Back one horse or the other to avoid disappointed customers! Don’t get me wrong it’s a lovely pub architecturally. However going full on gastro with the standard Fuller’s menu is a bit frustrating. I’ve seen enough owton bacon on a menu to last a lifetime! After the the long wait at the bar two Prides came in at £6 each. Probably the most expensive Prides I’ve ever bought at a Fulller’s pub. They were short filled so had to ask for a top up which was met with a huff and a puff plus no apology. Not really acceptable for a chain that should have consistent standards. All a bit of a shame really as if it was better run it would rate higher. A generous 3/5 but with better staff and organisation it could be much better.

The focaccia isn’t focaccia it’s white bread slapped on the grill 👎. Given a table for 5 when booked for 8, overall nice pub.

Very disappointed that a Fullers pub would not take cash and make zero efforts about it. Its a beautiful place but the cashless madness once again ruined the experience…

Bad just bad staff unfriendly especially to children

Took my Mum for a wonderful lunch at The Crown. Traditional pub food at an excellent standard — my sea bream was restaurant quality and my Mum’s pie was perfect! Food was fresh & hot. Beautiful interior & lovely cosy atmosphere. Will definitely be returning to try the roast & explore the pudding options! Thank you for a lovely meal :))

What a traditional pub shaman, a smiling and professional service. The kitchen is very good. I can only recommend coming and spending some time in this wonderful place.

Super lovely pub, not too far from Angel Station. Been here a fair few times for food or just drinks, and it has always been a great experience! It has a beautiful and traditional vibe to it, with wooden interiors and a nice outdoor area, perfect for days where the weather is good. The food is very nice and the dining part is nicely segmented on one side of the bar. Additionally, they have a great selection of beer on tap (including being one of the few pubs in the are offering Lucky Saint – alcohol free beer – on tap), making this one of the favourites in the area! Had an absolutely delicious Sunday roast here! The food took a reassuringly long enough time to arrive, so you know it's fresh. Lovely meat, crispy roasties and a huge Yorkshire pudding. We had pigs in blankets on the side which personally I want keen as they were huge rounds of sausage meat rather than mini sausages, but they were still good! Great service too - well worth a visit :)

Nice pub. London Pride. Excellent chicken and leek pie. But it was so noisy I couldn’t hear anything my friends said and I had tinnitus by the time I left. If I wasn’t with friends I would not have stayed. I would go again, but only when less busy.

What a great little pub. It has Guinness and pies. Chicken and Leek, Braised Steak and Ale and Shepherd pies.

First time here would recommend it also The plant-based burger is better than the beef one. Even though I usually eat meat burgers, I highly recommend it. It's delicious

📍The Crown 🌍 Back streets of Islington 🏛 Nice-looking corner pub with outdoor seating and street tables. Inside is a beautifully curved bowl-shaped bar and plenty of etched glass. I'd say there's been a fair amount of interior design done here, but it all looks classy. There's a bar area for drinkers and two dining areas for gastropub fans. 🙋‍♂️ The pub's a good one, if a little dark, and the food was very enjoyable. Clearly effort has gone in to creating the right mood. 🍺 Pretty standard. Siren and Deya stood out amongst London Pride and Hophead. Don't get me wrong, both of the latter are great pints, but they're everywhere. Also Amstel, Guinness and Peroni.

Had dinner here after visiting the Arsenal stadium highly recommended beer and beautiful food lovely staff great atmosphere and a gunners pub as well paid parking in the area lovely

Visitamos con nuestra perra un miércoles por la noche y decidimos comer fuera ya que estaba siendo un poco excitante. Encantadora bienvenida y un servicio amable. Ambos comimos el excelente filete de rabadilla con ensalada de pecorino. Es un plato de verano perfecto para nosotros, como una tagliata, pero con ingredientes adicionales para ensaladas como tomate y rábano. También compartimos unas patatas fritas preciosas. Muy buen ambiente con el personal y otros clientes amables.

Best fish and chips in London. No exaggeration!!

Had a lovely dinner with my family here yesterday. The atmosphere is great and the staff were kind and helpful, particularly with my allergy order (gluten free) and made extra care to prevent cross contamination. The gluten free options were limited and the burger was slightly disappointing as I couldn’t have chips on the side, sauce or cheese in the burger.

Neat neighbourhood pub. Great menu which lured me in for dinner. Reasonably priced and found the staff helpful! The fish pie I had was really delicious.

Went here last Saturday night. Good beer, excellent food and service and toilets. In a lovely area but not snooty. Thanks so much to Australian barmaid for amazing service, and photo out the front - fun night!

Un asado de domingo muy decente, aunque el solomillo de ternera estaba un poco más allá del “rosa servido” en el menú. La verdura era generosa y variada, aunque las patatas asadas eran un poco inferiores. El ambiente y la decoración es realmente genial - un boozer victoriano muy elegante con un servicio atento y amable. Bonito y agradable para perros, así que perfecto para el almuerzo después de una carrera y chapotear alrededor de los encantadores jardines Thornhill cercanos.

Great service, friendly and good beer

Really nice and friendly staff at this intimate Islington pub. Lovely spot for a few drinks to hide yourself from the rain. Definitely recommend.

Great fish and chips and Sunday roast. The place looks lovely and well-kept, but it’s a more pricey than a usual pub. It’s worth it as especially if you order the sticky toffee pudding at the end of your meal. The staff is also very nice and smiley 😊

A wonderful classic "local" on one of the few very quiet streets of Islington. Inside, very friendly service and a decent selection of ales in a "wood-filled" atmosphere. We lucked out by getting a table in their outdoor garden shaded by large trees on a warm evening.

This is the best roast I've ever had. Cooked to perfection, staff were lovely and the atmosphere was exactly what you need on a Sunday afternoon.

A perfect neighbourhood pub that has original etched victorian glass, along with a perfect pint of guinness, but unfortunately no longer accepts cash.

We went here after a really disappointing experience at The Albion and, fortunately, it was the best decision. This pub is a real English pub. Nothing pretentious. Exactly what we were looking for. The food was really good! We ordered a Sunday roast and triple fried fries. 10/10 They have a huuuuuge variety of tap beers! Really really good although a little bit expensive.£7 for a pint. The service was great tho! People were very kind and attentive. There was a very disgusting smell inside the pub that made us hesitate a lot if entering or not 😥

Nice pub in Covent garden , less busy than I thought when I visited on a Saturday evening. You can watch sports without the experience being overwhelming for a person who just wants to enjoy their beer. Good selection of beers a plus

When we come to the door of the pub we understand before enter the pub this place is different right place for us. ☺️ If you want to go a place that doesn’t so crowded and cool this is the right place especially weekdays. Because they said weekends mostly busy. I like the ambiance and beers :) Highly recommended.

Had the roast lamb. Incredibly chewy and salty. When i mentioned it at the end - as no one came to ask if it was ok before then - they said it had only been on the menu for a week. Think i had reheated leftovers. The veg were fine though. Won’t be back

Lovely pub, with cosy atmosphere. The tables are positioned around the central bar which ensures that it is not too noisy. The staff were friendly and accommodated our party of 9 really well. We were slightly underwhelmed by the roast, especially the potatoes but wasn't bad. Would visit again for service and atmosphere alone.

2 for 2 on the Cheeseburger front at The Crown in Islington. Fast becoming my favourite Tuesday evening pub for a lovely pint or two, great conversation and hearty food. Will have the Pie and mash next time.

The food wasn’t the greatest I asked for some chips but was told they only do the Sunday menu.

A delightful pub with more engraved glass than you can throw a stone at. Late Victorian corner street pub with a high ceiling and a light and airy feel to it. There is a great range of both keg and cask beers on offer. The people behind the bar are a cheery bunch offering great customer service. Food is flying out from the kitchen at an impressive rate leading to many contented faces around the tables. Super place to visit. The extra photos were just to recognize the "ghost sign" for the ex chemist up the road.

We had a really pleasant Sunday lunch at The Crown recently. It was our first visit. The dining area is very welcoming with high ceilings and lots of light. The food was tasty and hearty - what we were looking for. It seemed to be relatively good value compared to other London gastropubs we have visited recently. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and had a great attitude.

5 of us attended for Sunday lunch as recommended by a friend. Nice decor, traditional pub. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable on their beers offered. The food however was unremarkable in presentation, with lukewarm vegetables and roast potatoes that weren’t roasted in appearance and cold. Two plates were sent back but two others remained on the table, unquestioned by waiting staff - there was little by way of an apology. Not impressed, feeling dissatisfied over quality and value for money.

Great steak and ale pie with a crust that is flaky and not dry. The filling was generous and flavourful. The mash that accompanied it was creamy and the gravy was just right. The battered fish was crispy with a light batter on the outside with moist flesh on the inside. The chips were are top notch as well. The waiter were patient enough to explain the kind of beers and cocktails they offer when we were unfamiliar.

This place has gone downhill and won’t re-visit. The Sunday roast was very average at best. No Yorkshire puddings for a roast and no mustard or horse radish ! Chewy meat and anaemic chicken. You need to up the anti if you want to survive

My go-to pub when in the area - relaxing vibe, nice service and feels local

Wonderful Victorian Fullers pub in a residential area. Went with friends on a Monday evening for a meal and drinks. 2 had sea bream and 2 had the steak ale pie, slightly pricey. Both were excellent, washed down with fantastic pints of Seafarers ale from the Gales brewery. Bottle of Chardonnay was nice and so were the glasses of Glenfiddich. In a area of excellent pubs, this one was superb. We will return.

The food is always spot on, the portions are generous, steaks always succulent and flavourful, the schnitzel is cooked to perfection! A friendly place to visit where your pooch is welcome and your kids too! Compliments to the chefs

Food and vibe were both good. The service was chaotic, really wasn’t clear if it was table service or bar service. Not that busy, but the waiter made it feel super busy and stressful by running around at a million miles per hour with a real sweat on.

Had a Sunday roast here. The veg, potatoes, Yorkshire was all nice. The meat was a little bit bland, but still not bad. The man serving us was very pleasant and very attentive. Good price for the meal too. Overall we enjoyed our meals and we would go back again. 8/10 :)

The pub is located in a lovely, peaceful neighbourhood. It rarely gets super busy. It's the perfect place to go for some quiet and have a good beer and delicious food away from the Islington high street crowd. Staff and the service was impeccable. Fish and chips was delicious, a bit pricey in my opinion but the quantities were reasonable. Definitely recommended!

A nice little find in a quiet area of Angel. Great pub with a good menu and excellent food. Really enjoyed dining here and the service from Matt was very attentive and friendly. Will definitely be back!

Traditional pub with Fabulous interior and Fillers beer

Probably the most anaemic potatoes I’ve ever had. Generally not a good roast

Posh, very pricey pub. £7.10 for Peroni - a very ordinary lager which is under £6 in pubs 5 mins walk away - typical rip-off Fullers. Staff were friendly, but being charged before pouring the drinks was a bit odd. EDIT: Thanks for the reply Ollie. But pints costing over £7 are not happening in every pub in the area..

This is genuinely one of my favourite pubs in London. The food is great, the staff are nothing short of lovely. The reason I’ve put 4 stars is genuinely only due to the price of beer. I’d expect to pay £6.70 for a pint of craft beer, but not for a pint of Guinness.

Googled Eateries in Islington, checked out the menu and the revues for The Crown and it sounded just like the place we were looking for! Travelled up from Medway for the final night of the London International Ska Festival at the Assembly Rooms so wanted a good meal in us before we started drinking. Staff were really friendly, Sun was shining ( yes, I know The Crown isn't responsible for that) so we eat out in the garden, the Roast Pork was wonderful, couldn't fault it! Lovely Pub, Lovely People, Lovely food, and the beer ain't bad either! 10/10

Classic pub interior which is nice, but catering for the Islington set 'locals' - £21 for roast beef dinner and £5.60 for London Pride (2023) move this into 'gastropub' territory IMO, shame as it would make a great wet pub.
