The Alpaca in Islington

Living in Islington been going there for years this afternoon got told when having a private conversation with a friend a member of staff asked us to keep our opinions to ourselves and was backed up by management why would bar staff listen to conversation any way if you value your opinion and would like to have freedom of speech steer clear of the alpaca lots of locals do nuff said

It's great to do something different and fun, and not to take things too seriously. I enjoyed it.

Lovely, lively pub. Food is OK (I went for Sunday roast), the portions could be more generous. They have outdoor seats and quiz nights.

Slow and poor bar service, even for central London

Grab a beer it was crowded but overall a nice experience

Really lovely pub and staff are great but £16.50 for a flat piece of pastry as the ‘pie of the day’ is a little bit steep

The roast was absolutely fantastic and the staff superb.

Had the Roast which was well below par and not cheap.. ..wouldn't go back!

Good food, good beer, friendly and efficient staff. Cosy, intimate ambience. The music was at the perfect level( which for me means I can hear it, but Shazam can’t pick it up). Primary reason for going was to enjoy a nice dinner and we weren’t disappointed. I had the fish of the week, which was panfried cod and my son had the pie of the day. We succumbed to the sticky toffee pudding which was also good. I would definitely go again - the fish and chips looked promising!

Hosted drinks for my birthday here and the Alpaca 🦙 really made it extra perfect great food amazing selection of food, beer and wine (ever beers from trying brewery) and we where well looked after by staff.

Rude waitress and slimy battered fish with undercooked chips. I came here two months ago and it was amazing, but this time the chef messed it up and the fish was completely undercooked. Even though we hardly touched it the waitress said she couldn’t take it off the bill because the fresh fish was expensive for them to buy and was usually brilliant. In the end she took it off the bill and was very arrogant/angry. Won’t be coming back.

Everyone who works here, every time I've been, is incredibly kind and helpful, best pub staff in London. Food and cocktails are consistently delicious, well presented, with inventive options alongside the classics. The only negative thing I have to say about the Alpaca is that it's pretty loud and can be hard to carry on a conversation sometimes, but I guess that's a testament to the crowd here having a good time...

Too noisy and too crowded. We booked a table for dinner and in the room there was also a big birthday party, we should have been informed before. The table was small, we could hardly fit into it. We were put close to the emergency door which was constantly being opened by peopeple going in and out, making us feel very cold. After the beginning of the dinner, the waiter disappeared and left us alone all the time. When I was in need of extra drinks or food I had to stand up and queue at the bar for ages. Worst service. One positive note, the food, very delicious!!

Had a roast in the Alpaca yesterday. Our first visit. Really enjoyed the experience. Stunning looking pub. Millie really looked after us.

While it's not quite as fun as The New Rose was, I was pleasantly surprised by my visit. Also amazing that it's one of the few pubs in Angel that doesn't inexplicably have a queue outside it on a Friday night. Perhaps I'm just getting old.

Had a fantastic Lamb roast at the Alpaca, very tender meat and lots of gravy. My partner had the gammon which was also very soft. Our waiter Craig was very attentive and friendly. He gave us a great wine recommendation and was very accommodating and suggestive to support our dietary needs. Would highly recommend coming to the Alpaca.

When I was 16 I had my first savoury pie experience. That day I felt I had become a fully grown human being, with all his senses in tune. Ever since then, I have been chasing Puff the Pastry Dragon. Today, I feel I have finally caught up to that dragon. TLDR: The veggie pie is banging.

We came in and had the Sunday roast but was disappointed… the gravy was watery, potatoes were super hard everything kind of tasted as if it was just heated up.

Beautiful pub with some tvs up to watch whatever sport that’s on. Friends and I went for a roast dinner. We thought it was kind of average unfortunately.

It’s a lovely pub and I went there quite a few times for drinks. The service is friendly and the atmosphere is really nice so I wanted to try their Sunday roast. I was a bit disappointed by the lack of veggies but overall a good roast

Great location, fun vibes - always a good time

This was a wonderful experience. I turned up half way through my lovely friend’s evening and the vibes were running off the charts off the scale away from me. Jessica was explicitly amazing , and particularly accommodating for my friend Leon’s needs.

Good menu Lighting was too dark for me to read the menu. Acoustics was not great to catch up with old friends at peak lunch/ dinner time. OK for outside of these times.

Wow! Great dinner, very “London” vibes. We got a dessert for free and it was AMAZING! Thank you guys!

In a city of great pubs, The Alpaca stands above the rest. Worth seeking out! Great food, service and atmosphere.

Booked a table for 6 yesterday evening and have to say service was very polite and helpful. Food delicious and drinks good as well. It got a little noisy by about 9.30pm but not surprising as drinks being consumed and the place was full. Would definitely return this is a little gem!

Food looks nice in paper, but it could do better executed. The place is very nice.

We were there for Christmas dinner as a family . very very busy. food very good. service a little slow but the place was packed. would like to go back after Christmas to try it as a pub.

Definitely worth the visit. Ok acoustics, good music, ok speakers. Usual tab beers (besides the Yess) Quite specious with an unusual bar structure. There were also lounge areas which I haven’t visited. Yeah.

A really lively night - the place was heaving!!!! Despite that the staff always made you feel that they had time for you, didn't seem flustered and were very 'on point' with their service. Food was tasty if a little limited in its options - but the quality of the ingredients and the way it was cooked was excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would definitely return.

Really nice pub in Islington. Good beer selection and reasonably priced food, which was excellent. Steak was spot on, medium rare as ordered same with burger. One of best burgers I had in London so far (well usually burgers sucks in LDN to be honest).

Had such a great experience here today. Went for the sharing Sunday roast and it was outstanding. The staff went above and beyond for our dog, finding us a spot out of the way, procuring him a blanket so he was extra comfy and giving him lots of treats.

One of the best pubs in Angel. Why? Well I'll certainly tell you why. This pub has one of the best names ever, the staff are really nice and friendly, it's a very big space and the atmosphere is nice and lively. I'll certainly go back again.

I attended a party in the upstairs function room. It suited the purpose really well, and I think there must have been about 50 people there. It did get pretty loud and warm however at times. That being said the canapés were good, the staff were really helpful and tolerant of some wild dancing styles/overzealous behaviours. There's a bar upstairs which I think remained open until 12am. We had the ability to play our own music over the speakers. Overall would recommend!

The Alpaca hosted our annual Friendsmas and they were really great. Food was wonderful, they were accommodating and friendly and we can’t wait to go back :)

I had a lunch for my birthday at the Alpaca on Saturday. The pub is so nice - beautiful decor and great vibes. Staff were super attentive, really friendly and the food was amazing and great value for money considering the quality. Hard recommend !!

Came here to meet up with a bunch of folk (50+ people) and we’d reserved the upstairs event area. Had a great night, service was quick, and the staff helped to make it a great night for everyone.

Post-Droidcon drinks in the room upstairs with a dedicated bar. It was a nice venue and the event went well. Friendly and helpful staff, fast service, and accommodating of our hoards descending upon the place 😁 Decent drink selection (Lazer Crush ♥️), and the fries are good too.

Great Sunday roast. Good atmosphere & friendly staff. 3rd time there and will certainly be going back.

Booked for a private event and it was perfect. The staff were really accommodating, the space was great and a perfect size. The barman was great too especially as it was just him most of the night serving a party of 50, and a full cocktail list. Also very easy and stress free to organise 10/10

Great Pub. The staff were fab, so helpful and friendly. The chicken salad I had was sensational, so flavoursome, the chicken was perfectly chargrilled and the dressing had a really good bite. Absolutely cracking pub, in a very handy location too, will definitely head back here.

Went here at the weekend for the first time ever. The service was superfriendly and accommodating, was really impressed and it made all the difference. Food was also lovely, had the steak which was tender and juicy. All in all great experience.

Went for family birthday dinner x9 people pre-booked. All starters & mains were brought to the table at the same time (without any warning that this would be the case) meaning most starters were left to go cold and untouched. Service generally not very good, no awareness from staff & table drink orders took multiple attempts to get right every time.

We been coming here since the day before we went into lockdown! Without a doubt the best pub in Islington, from the staff, to the atmosphere and the food. Everyone has always a smile on their face and time for you. Also if you’re looking for a dog friendly pub, say no more: this is the place! They love all four legged friends there and our Daisy gets spoilt every time by Agatha! We can’t recommend it enough

We visited on Sunday 7 of us and everyone really enjoyed their meals, we had the mezze to start and the mixed roast between me my husband and 2 kids, it was all so delicious and our waiter was so friendly and helpful. We will defiantly be back

Early Sunday lunch for 2 vegans & a vegetarian. Made very welcome by staff & service outstanding. Staff even offered a small sample of wine after hearing us talk about orange wine. Great food with nice sides. Amazing Yorkshire pud. Would recommend.

Roast was super disappointing. Have been going to the Alpaca for roasts for years and last sunday it was super disappointing, will not be going back, Gravy was definitely instant, potatoes were soggy and everything seemed like it had been sitting around for a while. Way too expensive for the quality. Such a shame as used to be my favourite pub.

We went there with our kids for a Sunday roast after a puppet show at little angel theatre nearby and we ordered a chef’s plate which is a choice of three carvings for two adults and two kids. It was a massive plate with three big Yorkshire puddings, veggies and a lot of gravy. It was all excellent with a special recommendation for the lamb. Staff were extremely friendly and the place was cleaner and airy. We had a lovely time there and would defo come back another time.

First time we came to this pub. We wanted to watch the Wimbledon in a pub with delicious food and fantastic service. Bingo! We found it here at The alpaca. This will be our regular pub from now on! Thank you to the chef and all staffs. :-)

A welcoming venue for a small group event. Lots of character, great staff and yummy food. The sharing platters are perfect for buffet style eating.

Pleasantly surprised by how good their roast is, get the chef's plate roast for the sheer theatre of it, huge amount of food and the lamb was particularly amazing.

I’ve never had a bad time at this bar. The food is solid, but more importantly, the staff are so attentive and friendly in a really relaxed way, so you never feel watched but somehow they are always there right when you need them. Great vibe.

The Alpaca is our favourite pub - delicious food with fresh ingredients and a changing menu, a sunny interior with a lot of light, great vibes, and the absolute best staff. Best pub in Islington for a meal or if you’re just stopping in for a quick pint (they have great cocktails and wines too). Strongly recommend!

First time at the Alpaca last Sunday. As soon as I walked in I felt a great vibe, there was a couple of tables with families and small children it felt very family friendly. As soon as i walked through the door all the staff said hello and were super friendly. Ordered the roast dinner and it was lovely. I don’t usually do reviews but felt that the Alpaca deserved a great review. Even when I sat outside after my meal the staff spoke and checked everything was ok . Well done to all I can’t wait to visit again when I’m in the area. Thankyou 😊

Went last night. 3 staff behind the bar. A couple at the bar, otherwise empty, with seats outside full. Stood for 5 minutes or so with not one staff member even looking in my direction whilst the server served the couple, then a discussion about her taking the wrong money...... Having been totally ignored for 5 minutes by all 3 staff, the other two just wandering behind the bar, I left. I went in because Google suggests they sell craft beer. They don't. Went to the Old Queens Head just up the road to a ' hello ' as I walked through the door, a smile, chat and quickly served beer after a recommendation]. Do better, Alpaca !

I love this pub. Great atmosphere and staff are very helpful & friendly. This is my 3rd meal here and all very good apart from my steak. Sorry to say a tad chewy. Anyway dessert was free by way of apology so all good. I will definitely return because of the vibe and attentive service. The food generally is very good so will put the steak down to bad luck ( you can always have a bad cut ) Keep up the good work & service👏🏽 .

I really enjoy this pub! We have been visiting since it opened during lockdown in 2020. It's really friendly and a great space. The owners(?) seem lovely and we have always had great food and drink there. I enjoy the games as well - love a good round of Trivial Pursuit! My one complaint is that they have a functioning piano but don't let anyone play it? What is the point of the piano...?
