I just wanted to leave a review following our stay last night (18/11/2023) An absolutely amazing stay, bedroom had all we needed. We had a fantastic sleep and a wonderful view. The food was amazing the best pub grub I have had in a very long time. The breakfast equally as good. The staff were all friendly and had excellent customer service, very welcoming. The locals made us feel at home and a good time was had all round. Stephen was a wonderful host and a brilliant chef. We can't wait to return next year to try out the glamping pod

Since our first stay in April we have stayed numerous times, even doing a 4 hour round trip for Sunday lunch. The food is absolutely exceptional and the staff are amazing. A massive shout out to John the barman, a fantastic guy and on our last visit when a member of our family was taken ill went above and beyond to help and we will be forever grateful. John, you are a superstar and we can’t thank you enough. Stephen runs a fantastic place, we can’t wait to come back again in March and will definitely be back before then. Breakfast fantastic, lovely ladies that couldn’t be more helpful. Honestly the best place we have ever stayed, food, staff, experience, absolutely second to none, thank you so much for looking after us xx

We chose this fabulous B&B because we had seen it on four in a bed TV show. We weren’t disappointed. Steve and his team gave us a very warm welcome and everyone was soooo friendly. John was very helpful and Andrew was great in the bar. Steve cooked us an amazing meal and his sausages are fantastic. In morning we had breakfast served by the lovely Liz. Nothing too much trouble. It’s a bit rustic but the bed was comfortable and room was warm. Highly recommend. We will be back. Even if it’s just to hear the farmers chat in the bar. Thanks guys.

Cannot fault this place, if your looking for a base or even just a night or two away this is spot on. Accommodation, food, hospitality all perfect. We stayed 4 friends in pod, it was wonderful, clean, e everything we needed, perfect nights sleep, comfy beds, then the food in restaurant oh my word, delicious, proper locally sourced food, tasted wonderful, I had starter cheese soufflé with spinach, steak pie followed by crème brûlée. We then moved to bar area, roaring fire, locals and visitors all mixing brilliant atmosphere, good nights sleep followed by superb breakfast. This place is a credit to all the owners and staff. Thank you for making our trip away special

Used the Crossing twice as a stop off for our trip around the NC500. Bit off the beaten track but great value accommodation for one night and a superb breakfast. The rooms are basic but clean and we couldn’t ask any more from wonderful friendly staff. On the way back we booked a table in the restaurant which we I con honesty say hit the spot, good honest food served in a pub that I would say is a proper pub serving the community well. If you want a good night out you won’t go far wrong spending it in the bar with the friendly locals. Great value for money and I noticed that they do have garden pods/chalets to stay in and being close to Hadrians wall it’s a good location.

Booked Sunday lunch as we were staying nearby and promptly booked again for the Sunday after. What a find. The food was so good - the prawn cocktail was good enough to service in a fancy restaurant - it was a joy to eat and look at - served on an oblong plate it was a picture. The roasts - we had lamb and then beef were so tender you could pull them apart and we indulged in an old fashioned banana split. The staff were friendly and seemed happy in their work - what a pity we don't live any where near or they would be seeing us once a week!

Was Sunday lunch for three. We had booked ahead and were well met and catered for upon arrival. Initial drinks ordered at the bar prior to moving through to the dining area. Two of us had starters, beautifully fresh prawn cocktails. For mains, two had the picanha of beef rump and one the shoulder of pork. All absolutely perfectly prepared and presented. Two decided upon desserts, rhubarb crumble (yum) and chocolate fudge cake. We tend to travel around the area for Sunday lunch and rarely revisit a place. However, it was a 10 out of 10 for you all, and we’ll be back to share the experience with our family and friends. Thank you again. S.

My friend and I stayed on a bed and breakfast basis for 3 nights and also had dinner on each evening. Not only were we very impressed by the food but the wonderful atmosphere surrounding the whole stay was extremely friendly and relaxing. The Crossings Inn is surrounded by beautiful peaceful countryside and if you fancy glamping, they are more than likely completed. Don't be fooled into thinking there is little to do around this area, there are beautiful walks, many different sites of Hadrians' Wall so obviously is very close to the Scottish border. If you want glitz and glamour then this is not for you but if you like a warm, friendly welcome from Stephen the owner and chef and his very helpful, informative right hand woman Liz, then please give a try. A big hand to all the staff, we loved it. Thank you team. Ingrid and Liz

We were lucky enough to stay here in April. We had a lovely big room with a separate bathroom, lovely and clean. Staff so welcoming upon arrival, showed us to our room, said we were welcome to have a drink in the bar before our meal reservation. Such a friendly and down to earth place. Steak was absolutely gorgeous and the breakfast was the best we’ve ever had. Loved chatting to the chef in the morning and nothing was too much trouble. Can’t wait for our return visit in August and I’m sure this will be our regular place to stay for a lovely weekend away in the future

MORE AT TripAdvisor

This is has a cosy pub feel and had a few locals standing drinking around the bar. Parking is reasonable there is some at the front and back of the property. The roads to this pub are narrow some single lanes but are quiet and the drive there is pleasant. The passageways are narrow in the building from the front of the entrance door way into the bar area and also from the bar/pool area in to the restaurant passageway as there is furniture down one side. Service is a bit slow even though it wasn’t that busy we had to ask to order drinks when ordering food. The restaurant was probably 1/4-1/3 capacity and the pub seating in the lean too/extension was large and bright but only a couple of people in that area and they weren’t dining. The starter of cheese soufflé was very nice but the pate was very disappointing, we could have gone to a supermarket cut some pate up, opened up a salad bag over dressed it so it had gone limp and a bit soggy and made some toast, it wasn’t a premium pate or anything special. The main course we had beef cheek which was very nice the mash was smooth and the tender stem broccoli was just right with pool of tasty gravy and also belly pork which was nice but the skin was limp and fatty not the lovely crispy crackling that you expect from belly pork, we all know when we order belly pork there is an expectation of crackling that had a lovely crunchy snap same mash to go with it. The portion size was very good, which I would have expected for that price point. So a mixed bag, one happy diner, the other was a bit disappointed. The cracking was mentioned to the waitress. Had the food and service for drinks been right it would have had a 4 star review, the other point deduction was for access. We did not use the WC so we can’t comment. A gentleman who was also dining had come two days in a row and enjoyed his meal and other diners seemed to be enjoying theirs too so maybe it was just our poor luck with the choice of meal ordered. The area doesn’t have many places to eat out in close proximity, you have to drive so choice or dining establishments are limited.

My wife and I enjoyed the delicious Sunday Lunch which is extremely well price for 1, 2 or all 3 courses we opted for 3 and were extremely well fed. The souffle we had for starter was amazing and well worth waiting for. The choices for the main course were excellent, I opted for beef and my wife decided on the lamb and these were absolutely melt in the mouth delicious. The selection of veg was excellent and the cauliflower cheese was to die for. Although pretty full after the 2 courses we were still tempted by the desserts and we were not disappointed, they were yummy, although my wife would like to suggest an addition to the choices of a good old fashioned sherry trifle. Overall the food was great, the service was excellent and very friendly and I would thoroughly recommend this Inn.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

Myself, partner and parents went for Easter lunch today. Upon entering we ordered a round of drinks from the bar, took a seat and placed our order. We were then shown through to the dining area, which smelt strongly of damp, with peeling artex, and damp round the window where we were seated in the bar. Our starters were served, and they were of mediocre standard, though not exactly pleasing to the eye. If we thought that was bad, it was nothing compared to the mains !!!The two roast beef mains were nothing short of inedible, we only ate a small piece each, which was tough, chewy, and a poor cut of meat, we couldn't have eaten more if we'd tried, it was so chewy. The panfried seabass was certainly fried, all you could taste was dirty fat, which they'd tried to disguise under a chive sauce. The pork was so-so buts that's about all you could say. The cauliflower cheese was burnt on top, and the veg for four wouldn't have fed a one year old, portion control certainly wasn't a strong point either, a tbsp of cabbage, and a tbsp of carrot/suede each. The beef and pork also had a tbsp of mash (cold ... more smash than mash), two half roast potatoes which were like bricks, and a Yorkshire pudding each, my mum's was charred and also mainly inedible. The seabass was served with four tiny pieces of broccoli and the smashed potatoes were boiled, skinned potatoes that looks like they'd been mashed with a fork, also inedible. We left the vast majority of three of the four meals, as we just couldn't eat it due to the standard, and were only asked once, a minute after they put the plates down if everything was ok. The staff weren't seen anywhere near our table again until it was time to ask if we wanted the dessert menu, which we happily declined, yet now that a waitress was giving us her attention, we brought it to there attention we couldn't eat the food due to its quality. She said nothing, lifted our plates and upon arriving at the bar, we were charged for 4 full two course meals in full, and a round of drinks we'd already paid cash for on arrival. When we subtly tried to speak to the person behind the bar, she was extremely rude, shouted at us waving her finger, and told us she'd never had a complaint that day ! Took the round of drinks off the bill, no apology or sympathy towards her customers and demanded £51.80 .... if you've any sense steer well clear, the place, its owner and the food is a disgrace to the people of Cumbria and beyond !! This used to be a gem of a place in years gone past, this is no longer the case One star too many but had to click at least one on TA.

Best eggplant parmigiana ever. All the food I've tried so far is excellent and plenty of vegetarian options. Attentive but unobtrusive service and a cosy, quiet ambience. If the busy Vic Park strip is not your thing, try this suburban treasure.
