The Cross Keys - Kinnerley in Shropshire

We visited for Sunday lunch on 25th August. We were a family group of 13 and I have to say the service and attention we received was first class. The staff were friendly, attentive and friendly. The food was really good and well presented. An added bonus was that they had some excellent real ale available.

Was lucky enough to secure a last minute booking for Sunday lunch today and it was absolutely outstanding. My partner and I both enjoyed a thoroughly hearty two course Sunday lunch with lovely beer and wine, absolutely perfect service by some lovely people in a beautiful setting. What an asset to our community. Ideal.

A last minute booking turned out to be a great decision! We didn’t fancy cooking so visited on recommendation. We had a lovely welcome and shown to our table, a lovely restaurant and a generally nice atmosphere. We decided to take advantage of ‘ Wednesday steak night’ and were not disappointed. Locally sourced steak and it was cooked to perfection! Really enjoyable sides, not just your average sides but flavoursome and plentiful. No room for puds but we will definitely be returning in the near future to sample more of the food and to hopefully enjoy the outdoor area, which looked very inviting. Great food, matched with friendly service made this great value for money and we look forward to returning soon.

I live locally and have eaten here a number of times before and the quality of the food has always been good. However, after a visit with some neighbours recently for Sunday lunch I will not be going again unless they change their policy on dogs. When we arrived there was a large group at one table with a small dog that kept yapping and continued to do so until one of the people picked it up and let it eat food off their plates. A short while later a couple came and sat on the table next to us and they also had a dog. They had brought a small mattress for it to lay on and it was very well behaved, however, either the blanket or the dog or both smelt and it was very off putting. A group of 5 then arrived with a dog that was almost a large as a small horse. This dog was not on a lead and after the second time that it came to our table and started smelling what we were eating I politely asked the owner if they could keep it under control. They responded with a lot of verbal abuse. This pub has a separate room with direct access to the car park and is away from the other eating areas and could easily be reserved for those people who insist on taking dogs with them whilst leaving the rest of the tables dog free.

A lovely evening with family excellent service and food. We were all made to feel at home with a lovely atmosphere. Staff very attentive in spite of it being very busy. Everything sparkling clean, Tables laid out beautifully. Could not fault anypart of our experience. The decor too was tastefull, light and airy on a hot evening and some beautiful pictures by a local artist for sale all around adding to the ambiance. Will definately be going again and again a real diamond. Highly reccomend if you are looking for a super evening out.

As regular customers, the Cross Keys is one of our favourite local restaurant/pub to eat and drink. The staff are always welcoming and personable. The food is always high standard and good value for money. As a real ale drinker, both the Butty Bach and Ludlow Blonde, which are the regular beers, are always kept perfect. Sometimes they also have Stonehouse Station Bitter, which is a local brewery. We are very lucky to have such a quality establishment on our doorstep and a real find for anyone visiting the area.

Booked a table for 2 30pm and ended up waiting nearly an hour to be seated. However, the staff were apologetic and friendly so it wasn’t a hardship. There were 7 of us. Extremely busy Sunday afternoon. What we had: Haddock Nuggets, courgette bhajis, wild boar tortellini, heritage tomatoes and Barrata for starters. Roast beef, pork for mains with all the trimmings including Yorkshire puddings and crackling Panna Cotta, Lemon Curd tart, Shropshire Blue cheese for dessert!!! Yum yummy 🤤

We visited during a trip to the area for my partners birthday. We were greeted by lovely a building which had been saved from redevelopment by the local community previously. You walk into a very warm atmosphere and attentive service throughout your stay, also to say plus points for being dog friendly, we didn’t bring ours but definitely will next time. The food far exceeded expectations, the flavour and presentation is something you’d expect from a pretentious place vying for a Michelin star and charging sky high prices, not this cosy country pub which caters for all and doesn’t break the bank. We will definitely be returning next time we’re in the vicinity.

Came in for a Sunday lunch with my grandparents. The food was so wonderful and filling!! We all had the pork. It was cooked to perfection so delicious and melty, and the crackling was just divine. They even gave us extra!! The desserts were stunning, so wonderfully presented and yummy!! The only downsides to our experience here were how costly the drinks were £5 for A BOTTLE OF STILL WATER?! And the cocktails, while very lovely, for their size weren't worth spending £8 on. Overall, we did have a lovely time here and went home satisfied.

Came for Sunday Lunch with my partner as the reviews looked amazing and we weren't disappointed! The roast dinner is incredible, we both went for the beef (served pink) which is perfect for us. The staff were very welcoming from the moment we walked in, the waitress who served us was lovely. Dog friendly which is a bonus for us.

I want to say that the food and atmosphere was amazing! However… we had a 7:30pm booking for 7 of us. We were seated and had our drinks order taken. Whilst the drinks were being made we were not given any menus. After receiving our drinks we still were not given a menu. 15 minutes in I eventually went up to the bar and politely asked for some menus. The young lady said she would bring some over (no apology or didn’t seem to think they had made a mistake by not doing this) Our starters didn’t come out until 8:20 and our mains were not brought out to us until 9pm….9pm!!! Our booking was at 7:30!! There was not urgency or apology for the long wait. I have worked in hospitality and know how hard the job is but you really do need to be attentive to your customers and these staff members were not.

It was a joy to eat in a restaurant where the kitchen team understand food and know how to prepare from scratch. Every part of the meal was delicious and well presented. The front of house team were friendly and welcoming. Often, when you eat out, you leave disappointed with the experience and underwhelmed with the food. This won't happen here!

Always have a great meal here. Delicious food very friendly and attentive staff. Nice cosy atmosphere and great varied menu.

Steak night. This was the best fillet steak I have had for a very long time! The service was also excellent. The waitress was very accommodating, substituted the vegetables for my partner as the ones on the menu were in sauces (he has an onion/garlic allergy). The whole atmosphere was very pleasant and relaxing and the decoration of the restaurant was fresh and welcoming.

Easy to book, and change day at the last moment, many thanks. A splendid country pub, most welcoming to us, our 12 month old Labrador and some random insane old woman we found in a field! A most courteous staff, the food was excellent, and very presented. We all enjoyed our lunch and will hopefully return, complete with the pup and my mother!

The ribeye steaks we had were succulent with outstanding flavour just how a great steak should be. Add to this the friendly personal service which added up to a very enjoyable meal. Certainly would not hesitate to recommend the cross Keys

On holiday in Oswestry and came here on a recommendation from our host, we were not disappointed! We liked it so much after the first night we booked again for the next night. The food was outstanding and the cocktails delicious. The meals where all super tasty, hot and with a modern twist. 100% recommend and would visit again.

We have been going to The Cross Keys for several years and the food, service and staff are exceptional. There is a fabulous choice and excellent homely atmosphere. We wholeheartedly recommend this venue. However on 19th August we went for Pizza Night which was very busy and a wonderful atmosphere, but the actual organisation of ordering food mystifies us. We were told to go to the Pizza oven (outside) to choose from the Menu, but we then had to go back into the pub to order, giving a table number. Problem is, by the time we got back to the bar with the table number the table would have been taken by someone else. What confuses us is, why are the menus not at the bar, where you order?….why the need to go to the guy cooking the pizzas?…..there of course may be reason but as an on looker it seems a very strange system. However, it certainly would not put us off recommending The Cross Keys because generally and on the whole it is nothing less that 100%

Excellent food, friendly and efficient staff, very pleasant surroundings and atmosphere, fair prices. Highly recommended.

A canteen experience for younger people. One doesn't expect to be given a squeegee bottle of yellow sauce when English mustard was requested for a Sunday Lunch. Also the background music was loud and too intrusive for someone with a hearing impairment. Impossible to make conversation around the table.

An excellent country pub in a lovely village - this pub is a mus to go visit if your in the area, the staff are lovely the pub is great and all the locals make you feel at home. Dog friendly our puppy Poppy the cocker spaniel made friends with Max the cocker spaniel who’s mum Paula works there - poppy was made a fuss of. Now to the food - oh my god the best meal we have had whilst we were here on holiday the taste,presentation the combinations of flavours in each dish was amazing. I thoroughly recommend the pate to start then the steak pie for main and the lemon and thyme crème brûlée for dessert which was out of this world. My husband had the white bait to start then the sweet potato pie and then the cheese board with a glass of port for dessert as he said “ delicious food and a lovely pub, perfect way to end the holiday” Go to this pub it’s a must to go visit!

What a great recommendation this was, we were staying down the road at Riverside Cabins who recommended us a couple of places to eat, both of which were exceptional. We were a large group which sometimes is difficult to cater for however the cross keys nailed it, great food, friendly staff and a nice drop of Rioja! Love this place 🍷

We stayed nearby for a short break and visited here for a few meals. Great food each time and the staff were very friendly. Best to book before going as it was full when we went. Especially for Sun lunch.

Not cheap but when you see the quality and presentation of the food this place is well worth a visit. Not an extensive menu but will accommodate the majority of people. Would have gone here again if we had still been in the area.
