As a local we have visited the Cross Keys many times since it reopened. So many people told me how good their Sunday roast was. We weren’t disappointed - in-fact the only disappointment was that they had stopped before Easter! Thrilled that they were back in September - had family visit for a special occasion…waited 45 mins to be served but what was served up was largely inedible. Lamb was grey and all fat/gristle, gammon dried out, gravy looked and tasted like dishwater, veg was either stewed and sloppy or cold and hard. No condiments either. I know you can be better, will definitely be back when you are!

You expect to pay high prices for dinner qin Cornwall, so £20 for a fish pie is about, or even slightly below average however, what you don't expect is for it to be completely dry with only two desernable types of fish.

First visit for us on a quiet Sunday Stepped into an empty pub at 12 and were told to come back at 3.30 Rows of empty tables with reserved signs, one of which said 7.30 Not good enough and will not be returning (Local non customers)

Great, friendly staff. We had a lovely lunch, fish and chips, scallops in garlic and a side of chips. Located just back from the seafront in the square. Recommended

Visited twice during our stay. Once for a couple of evening drinks - it was raining and there was nowhere to sit inside as most tables reserved for dinner. We went for lunch a second time but changed our minds as the prices were too expensive in our opinion.

Booked early for the usual fabulous roast for Easter Sunday with family. Have visited many times since the reopening. Was looking forward to our visit all week… After deliberating who was going to have a small or large roast we came to order…no roast - it was Easter Sunday!!! Despite asking for the roast when I booked…we were left disappointed!! The lunch menu was okay but not anything to write home about. Very disappointed 😞

This is the second time I’ve visited the Cross Keys with my family. It’s a gorgeous newly renovated pub, set off the beaten track in an idyllic location. I can highly recommend booking and taking your time here. The service is welcoming, the food amazing and is set in such a beautiful location. I had the Sunday roast for Mother’s Day and it was delicious, hats off to the chef’! Never disappointed on the food! The staff are amazing and a massive thank you to Maz for making it a special experience for us all.

The quality of the food and amount of it was fantastic. The small roast was plenty and the large roast was a real challenge to eat! Maz and her team were friendly and very efficient - great service with the meals all coming out together. This was the best roast dinner I have ever had in a pub. Great place with a wonderful selection of draught beers. Highly recommended.

We had a fantastic lunch at the Cross Keys with our son, his girlfriend and our lab! We did make a reservation to ensure we had a table with our dog. We received a very warm welcome with our table reserved as promised. The bar served some great cornish beers, which were duly sampled! My son and I both had Whitebait served with a small fresh side salad and seasoned mayo all of which were delicious. Our part followed this with the Local Fish Pie x 2, Smash Beef Burger and Gammon and Chips. The portion sizes were good. The food was cooked and served beautifully. All the food was sourced from local suppliers, including the Duck Eggs served with the Gammon along with some fabulous fresh fish. The desserts were fabulous too. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout. We had chosen to go to the Cross Keys based on previous recommendations. We weren't disappointed! We are happy to recommend it as a great place to eat and will return when we are next in the area.

Excellent food and service at this recently renovated pub. Great specials on the evening menu such as Thai green chicken curry, and salmon, with chilli orzo pasta. Really delicious, recommend highly.

Once again, we enjoyed a great lunch. We decided on sandwiches, which come with a very tasty salad and a choice of either olives or crisps - we chose one of each and delicious Coronation chicken and ham & Piccalilli sandwiches - half of which we had to take home as they were so big. The bar attendant was rushed off her feet but made time to welcome us. The food arrived quickly. All in all a very pleasant experience.

5 star + We were fortunate enough to get a table for 4, for Sunday lunch. There was a party of 40 in the restaurant but the food and service was not compromised. We all chose different roasts and they were all beautifully presented and delicious too. Great food, decor and atmosphere, with lovely friendly and accommodating staff. Dropped in for lunch on a cold January day, excellent lunch with friendly barmaid. We ordered fish and chips also bubble and squeak. Both dishes were of the highest quality would highly recommend a visit.

During the quieter months of the year, Cawsand and Kingsand are our ‘go to’ seaside villages to visit for dog walks and a spot of lunch. Having read very good things about the refurbished Cross Keys Inn we decided to try it for lunch on a Friday in January. I booked a table for three in advance - as we would be bringing three dogs with us - and was impressed immediately with the friendliness and helpfulness of the person I spoke to on the phone. When we arrived, our window table in the bar area had been laid for us, with menus in place and lots of space available for our dogs. Sienna, our waitress, gave us a very warm welcome and immediately brought water and glasses to the table - a little thing but for me, the mark of a good establishment. Bar drinks also arrived very promptly. As two of us follow a GF diet, we were very impressed with the options available on the menu - all of which sounded delicious. In the end we all chose fish and chips and were very glad we did as they were delicious, especially with the minted mushy peas, tartare sauce and curry sauce accompaniments. Portion sizes were also very generous! Another point in the Cross Keys’ favour was how immaculately clean the toilet facilities were - very impressed. We will most definitely be returning as we felt the whole experience represented excellent value for money. Highly recommend.

Called to fix a Griddle in kitchen which was spotless as was all of the kitchen and very well organised, chefs were very friendly as were all the staff I met , The chef made me lunch from the menu which was a chicken burger with homemade fries and coleslaw which was phenomenal and very very good , would love to go back with the family very soon , A truly proper British Gem

I visited the cross keys with mum just before christmas. We were greeted by the friendly Beth, she made us feel very welcome and was very attentive. We had the christmas menu which was absolutely delicious, we both had the duck to start which had lovely flavours, the roast turkey was the best roast i’ve ever had! finally we had the cheese board and baileys and praline roulade which were both beautifully presented and very generous portion sizes. safe to say we will both be coming back to try more of their food

Just had a drink twice during our holiday one inside and one outside nice community venue would visit again next time in the area

A small group of us with 2 dogs turned up at 3.40 pm (food served until 4pm). Staff clearly showed that they were inconvenienced by this but begrudgingly accommodated us. This happened twice in a week. The first time wasn’t as bad as the second when the waitress openly complained to the manager about it in front of us. If we had a choice we would have walked out right there and then. The food was good - that’s why we went back but if they don’t want customers to place orders 20 mins before the kitchen closes then put a sign up saying last food orders at whatever time the pub sees fit! Our order was simple and straightforward - if that’s not enough then we advise the staff in question not to work in hospitality.

Visited the Cross Keys Inn this evening with my family. While the staff were generally friendly and welcoming, and the food was acceptable; we were left shocked and dismayed by the violent argument that broke out on a table close by. I would have expected the proprietor of the Inn to step in and address the situation; unfortunately, however the proprietor was sat at the table with the troublemakers getting inebriated with them. This Innkeeper needs to spend more time behind his bar managing his premises and less time in front of it getting drunk with his mates. Would not recommend this establishment for family dining given our experience this evening.

Went for a drink outside on Monday and staff friendly. Due to this, went in and booked a table in the window of the pub for tonight. Arrived to be told there were others sat there and shown to a basic dining room where seats at our table would've been back to back with other diners. People packed in. I know it's now not law to have any COVID measures in place, but every other pub we've visited still show people to a table, request the wearing of masks and staff wear them. This pub had NOTHING. Needless to say we left, having driven quite a long way We did speak to the manager.... obviously not bothered.

We had a great meal here. It’s not fancy, but really well done. I much prefer simple food done well than fancy food done badly, and this place does it so well.The best chips I can remember, great kids menu, fantastic burger, restaurant made curry sauce for the chips with a proper bit of spice, and lovely friendly service in a clean attractive pub.4 meals, 2 pints of cider and 2 lemonades for £41, plus great outdoor seating in a picturesque square, what more could you want?

We had been for as long walk and the weather was great so took a table for lunch in the square. There's no doubt the welcome isn't that friendly and i don't find it is in many places in cornwall, but we had the curry and it was surprisingly really good. Drinks were cold and they were clearly run off their feet. It's a good place for a light bite and drinks when the sun is out.

Never felt so unwelcome - ANYWHERE!!! I live just up the road.Stepped inside and treated like a covid intruder. Within seconds the staff, like some prison officer were asking me to step outside with such an attitude I left immediately. Calling behind me to come back I knew this wasn't my day. I wont return. Had a lovely lunch in the sunshine! Food and drink excellent with very good service. (Slightly marred but not ruined by an ignorant woman who refused the landlord’s request to wear a mask. A heart condition she announced to all who didn’t want to listen! So rude!) However wonderful location and definitely worth a visit. Whilst we ate outside the inside was cosy and had a great feel to it. All COVID guidelines explicitly adhered to ( apart from by the thick blonde) making you feel safe. Not welcoming at all. Constantly stared at by either a local or owner (who was muttering swear words at other customers as they walked past our table) I completely understand hospitality is tough, especially at the moment though covid times but they rely on passing tourist trade and quite frankly were rude, moody and made us feel uncomfortable!!!

The landlord and landlady were very rude,I mistakenly went to walk out the wrong door after not being told what door to leave by,I apologised and heard him call me a stupid cow after spending £60 for me and my friends meal which was served in takeaway containers,my friend had fish stew which was served in an ice cream carton with wooden cutlery and charged the same price as it normally is,and I notice they do not throw away the cartons that they serve the food in,they just put a serviette in it and serve it to the next none suspecting customer.i got better service from my local chipshop where they are very polite.R.U.D.E

The pub had a super friendly feel about it, we chose Seafood Chowder which was excellent, full of fresh fish and a few scallops as well, mussels and prawns. Just loved it, fresh bread to dip and went home full up and content!

Lovely food, good service. Had absolutely nailed the covid-19 requirements. Felt very safe, can't recommend them enough for that alone.

The first time we tried to book a table here we approached the owner, he wouldn't get his diary to check he had space, and just told us he was full, we felt very unwelcome so went elsewhere. A couple of days later, this pub was the only place with outside seats available so we reluctantly sat down. A lady took our drinks and food order, we were told it maybe some weight for the food as there was only one person working in the kitchen we were told to have our debit card ready the next time she came out to make payment, it felt all very rushed, we only ordered a sandwich so it did arrive quite quickly. Two ladies perched on a bench next to us, and it became apparently from there conversation one of them was the landlady who was slating moaning about how busy the pub had been and how unhelpful a staff member had been, not really what we want to be hearing. The sandwich was very basic, and we felt very rushed, will not be returning.

We had a delicious meal here. They were good at adhering and maintaining Covid-19 guidelines, while still maintaining a friendly and efficient service. We had the fish and chips, breaded whitebait and calamari which were all delicious. Highly recommend!

Sat down for a cider outside in the sun and decided to grab some chips from across the square. A woman came out and rudely told us that we need to take our purchased drinks elsewhere because of this. When apologising she continued to make us feel small and upset. We had to try and move all our things and pooch over to sit on a wall The other side of the square. Wouldent recommend if thats how they make people feel. Really put a downer on our day. No excuse to speak to people like that!!!

Having booked an early table and despite the fact that there were only a few diners and the kitchen could not have been under any pressure, we chose simply from the menu and were called forward when our meals were ready. We were greeted with the worst cooked meals I have ever encountered served in polystyrene takeaway cartons with wooden knives and forks. COVID-19 is no excuse for such awful food. If I could give a minus star I would.

After enjoying several beers (on separate occasions!) on the socially-distanced seating in the small square ( in the sunshine ! ) - we decided to order some food for our final holiday meal of our week . The landlady very kindly accommodated our order, even though we only gave an hour’s notice , and we were a party of nine ! The food was delicious and very good value - thank you . Such a lovely, friendly pub, made to feel so welcome! Had more than one drink during our 5 day stay! and managed to eat on one occasion - would have loved more but so popular and booked up all week! So pleased and reassuring to see how seriously they are taking the COVID19 situation and what a brilliant idea to use one-use environmentally friendly containers and cutlery.Geoff & Isobel such great hosts and gave us local information to enable us to make the most of our stay. Even sent us away with home-grown runner beans which we have just eaten - very tasty thank you!

The food was good. The service was good also. cannot complain about the prices.My main problem here was the way the food was presented. I believe the issue they had was due to the coronavirus health and safety measures. The food was served in cardboard containers as though we had ordered a takeaway and they were providing the tables to eat it on. We were also given wooden cutlery that was not practical for what we were eating.

We visited here and had fish and chips after lockdown and it was great. The veggie "fish" and chips includes beer battered halloumi which was delicious! Felt really safe with their cleanliness just after lockdown too :)

We ate here last night - Geoff & Isobel have worked wonders with their team to make this lovely Inn and Restaurant fully Covid secure since our last visit in February 2020. A lovely 'welcome back' after having to stay away so long. Food still excellent; staff still very friendly; still a dog friendly place to bring our German Shepherd! We've now reserved our table booking for every day for the remaining five days of our holiday - why go anywhere else?

We were staying in Cawsand for a very wet and windy weekend during storm Dennis and looking forward to fish and chips for lunch. The Cross Keys is situated in the village centre on the coast. This was one of the best Fish and chips I have tasted with lovely crisp batter and beautifully presented. There was also a welcome option of portion size. There was a good choice of desserts, all with clotted cream.

We looked at the menus of other places in the vicinity and chose this because it had such a good variety of food. I was particularly pleased there was a “small” fish and chips which I enjoyed though still left some of the chips. It was also a better priced.

This pub was unwelcoming from the moment we stepped in, the landlord was very arrogant and asked people of our group for the ID's several times even though they had already been served. The landlord then went on a condescending lecture of why he had asked for the ID so many times. The food in there was as disappointing as the service as the fish and chips was very soggy and many of the other meals looked like they had just been warmed up in a microwave.There are much better alternatives in the area such as 'the bay' or 'the halfway house' which were both welcoming and served delicious food.

Three words for this place, Bad, bad, bad.Arrived with a group of 12 friends on a Saturday afternoon.We had booked a table..hoping it would be the first of many meals there as between us we'd be there for two weeks, but from start to finish the two people who dealt with us seemed to not really care whether we were there or not.... Both very sour faces.Food OK, but even if it had been the best food the arrogance of the landlord and the lady who served us would not have excused them.Maybe a bad day... Don't think so. The rest of our friends went back on their last evening having booked for 9 people and gave them ten out of ten for consistency. Just as bad if not worse!! We found a lovely place not too far away which made the whole trip worthwhile.People were lovely. Will definitely go back to Cawsand and Kingsand.

Lovely pub with great beer and atmosphere. Live bands on Sundays...maybe a bit loud for me! But great to sit outside if you can get a chair.

I’ll start by saying if I could make it 2.5 I would but 2 will suffice. Sticking with the theme of 2, there are 2 key bad bits of the stay I want to highlight to other potential guests. 1. The WiFi throughout the hotel is powered by Sky cloud so it’s not there own so none of my work devices would log into it and it only worked around the bar area not in my room. 2. Half the rooms are a metre of two away from a main A road which means traffic is noisy and consistent. The hotel is added an extra window layer to help but it’s not great, especially as a light sleeper.

Always went passed this pub to go to the old bakery (which was closed). Had a lovely lunch and kids enjoyed the chicken wrap. Friendly staff. Went back but sadly they had stopped serving food at 1400 hours.
