The Cross Keys in Central Bedfordshire

We had our Wedding at The Cross Keys in May 2024, with around 80 guests in the day and 100 total at night. The experience from start to finish was fabulous - Paul made us feel welcome by offering us a drink when we came for planning sessions, Kathryn was completely open-minded for any of my crazy ideas and offered the knowledge/support when needed (thank you for putting up with my 101 E-Mails), the girls who worked behind the bar and served our food on the actual day and before/after are all so lovely and worked so hard to give us the best day - we will always remember your kindness! We were given the Paddock Marquee the day before to set-up, day of, and the day after to take everything down (this is unheard of in many other places, and we felt that the value for money was un-matched!) All tables, table cloths, plates, glasses, cutlery etc provided by the pub and we just added our stamp by using our own decor. We were given our choice of colour around the top edge of the marquee, we chose to keep this white, but if you had a specific colour theme this could be a nice touch. We opted to have the starlight roof above the dancefloor, which looked amazing at night and broke up the space a little into a separate area. The marquee does have separate male and female toilets (like fancy portaloo type) and they had a space to provide bathroom baskets for guests. It was nice not to have to walk round to the pub to use the toilet and have one close by. We had a BBQ as our Wedding Breakfast (chicken, burger, sausage, steak, halloumi etc), cooked and served by the pub, and we paid corkage to provide our own drinks during the day. We had an external caterer for our evening food at no extra charge, and the bar in the evening was stocked with every drink you could want. We also had a dessert table provided externally at no extra charge - we found the flexibility to have internal/external catering really helpful to make sure we could have what we wanted on the day. There were fridges and freezers to store food/drink the day before the wedding. We had a bouncy castle, live singers, outdoor Photo Booth etc on the day - one side of the marquee was opened up to allow for a relaxed atmosphere where our friends and family could wander in and out as they pleased. Everyone commented on how well the day flowed and how chilled the environment was. Please note - 1) The venue is a registered camping site, great to offer to your guests, however there were lots of people on the field camping on our wedding day, which we were not made aware beforehand would be the case. It was not really a problem for us, but if you are looking for complete privacy and the entire space to yourself perhaps worth enquiring about. 2) We had alcoholic shots as our wedding favours - with non-alcoholic alternatives for children under 18, pregnant women and non-drinkers. Unfortunately on the day, despite providing a detailed table plan, these were handed out at random and we did have a 12 year old family member given a vodka shot (a funny memory for him, but maybe would not have been so funny if given to one of the other non-drinkers for other reasons, as we had an ex-alcoholic at our day!) Just worth noting to really emphasise how important these small details are. Overall we had an incredible day and would recommend The Cross Keys to anyone looking for a slightly lower budget Wedding, we have already passed on the details to some of our friends. We went to the Cross Keys for Sunday lunch and it proved to be a great choice. The service was quick and friendly. The food was great as were the beers.

Friendly and attentive staff, as we walked through to our table of 20, we were greeted by the manager who always seemed very jolly while we were there. Our food was pre ordered, so there was no having to wait for people to order. Drinks were ordered and served, and shortly afterwards, our meals arrived. Portion was a good size. All in all, everything was pretty dam perfect.

Popped here for food, can recommend the T Bone steak and the Fillets of Seabass. We had 3 courses and the food was very tasty, very good pricing. Staff were welcoming as was the landlord who was also very welcoming and chatty, taking the time to talk to all diners. Very tastefully decorated and has a marquis for extra space attached at the rear, car park at the rear along with space for campers.

Came here for my Brother and Sister in laws Silver Wedding Anniversary. The food was top notch and the staff were lovely.

This is the most wonderful pub and especially on Sunday evenings when we often have haddock and chips better than ANY fish shop! And live jazz too- amazing fun!

Just had a brilliant meal at the Cross Keys. Had lunch menu offer & thought the portions would be smaller but that wasn't the case. Will certainly go back & recommend to all my friends.

Great pub and restaurant with friendly staff and good food. The dining area in the marquee is especially nice.

Really nice pub! The Chip Shop Platter was great, especially the haddock. The staff are very friendly and welcoming! 10/10 would recommend!

Absolutely fantastic food everytime, having moved away we don't often visit the cross keys these days but when we do it's always tip top. Although very hot on this particular occasion.

Delayed arrival in the evening (just before 8pm) and chef still made dinner for 2. Much appreciated. Bar / waiting staff were excellent. Good food, and fair price. Will visit again.

After the biggest disappointment ever at a nearby establishment we rang here to see if they could fit in a table of 9 at the last minute to save us! And boy did they save us! Very friendly and helpful staff who provided excellent service and excellent food! Was truly value for money! Everything was perfect! Thank you Cross Keys for everything! I will be back! :-)

Return visit with family for Sunday lunch, pre-booked. Very helpful and lovely staff. Food was spot on. Good quality meat well cooked (different people had roast lamb or turkey or pork or beef-all said it was really good. Found room for dessert, just!

The staff were extremely attentive and polite. The menu was varied and the prices Were moderate. The food was well presented and delicious. I would recommend.

Who would want a great meal and then wash it all down with food beer and jazz??!!

Mid-week lunchtime meal here with friends. Used the 'lighter bites' menu but you'd never guess from portion size! Really excellent quality and tasty food again. Look forward to the next visit👍🏻

First visit but went with my Father who is fairly regularly there for food. We had the cajon chicken and Dad had the Sunday roast. Great service and very good quality food. We'll certainly be back.

We wanted to say a big thank you to Paul and Kathryn, and their whole team at The Cross Keys, for hosting our Wedding in their Paddock Marquee. Our day was made perfect by the flexibility and kindness of the whole team and we would recommend to other couples looking to host a local Wedding!

Absolutely fantastic food in a lovely country pub situated in the leafy village of Pulloxhill, Bedfordshire highly recommended.

Great for lunch. 3 courses for under £20 per person. Good food, with great service and a nice atmosphere. Free parking. Toilets small.

Fabulous Sunday lunch, food and service were excellent. We were seated in the marquee, as it was winter thought this might be a problem but we needn’t have worried, the heaters were more than adequate and we were very comfortable. Will definitely be back.

The Cross Keys has a cozy atmosphere, friendly staff and plenty of parking. The food arrived quickly and my partner's halloumi fries were tasty. Unfortunately, my haddock was very disappointing and had a bad taste. I wouldn't recommend ordering fish here.

Excellent country pub that does a friendly and efficient job. We visit often as they do an excellent lunch for over 55's at a great price. Wonderful staff give a happy atmosphere to the dining area and they are very efficient too. Well worth a visit.

We went to the Classic Car show at the rear of the pub, which was excellent, we then popped in to have drinks and a meal, the staff very helpful and friendly, we were all made very welcome, food excellent, we also had dessert, Cherry Pie with hot custard/Lemon Cheesecake, most enjoyable day out, highly recommend, will be visiting again.

A group of 10 came for Sunday lunchtime. We had a lovely round table with comfy chairs. We had pre-ordered our food and it all came out together and hot. Everyone was very happy with their food. There is lots of parking and plenty of staff, a must when the venue is so large. We will return .

We went Sunday evening although it was late it was still quite busy. The food was piping hot and very good. The staff were friendly. There was a Jazz band there which meant it was quite busy. Would definitely go again.

Unfortunately the service today was terrible. We had to wait ages between courses and then not all served at the same time. Quite a shame really but I hope this was a one off.

Went for Sunday lunch with group of 9 of us. Felt the roast was average enough. Vegetables were harder than I would have liked. Chips were very nice though.

This a very pleasant pub. We attended a wake and the marquee at the back is really good with very effective heating on a cold day. The service was fine but not 100% efficient. The food was very good but no vegetarian options and the serving of salmon and potatoes was rather meager and the veg had run out. I could no doubt have asked for more but it was not appropriate of course.

Excellent experience and the best roast dinner I’ve ever had eating out! Just like your mum makes! We were a big party which increased at the last minute which was no problem! We will definitely be coming back next Sunday!

Had planned to stay in campervan for the night but as weather has turned bad, wasn't able to but had a lovely dinner and will plan on going again and stay over. Staff were lovely and helpful, food was very nice too

Nice Sunday lunch today. Good size portions, really good beef pie but coli and broccoli was hard and undercooked although cabbage and carrots were perfectly cooked. Plenty of really good quality ham with the ham egg and chips. Service was faultless, despite a packed restaurant. Shame about the wind today causing blowy chilliness in the conservatory but we were treated to some beautiful harmonised singing by a male voice choir who happened to be eating there today. Overall a nice experience and will go back.

My parents come here regularly and enjoy it. Consistently good food and service. Nothing fancy or special, but food comes quickly and is decent.

Food was good, but they do not take food allergies/intoleralcies seriously. It's the second time I have been caught out despite making known my serious allergy with eggs. Fortunately it's not live threatening, but one day someone may not be so lucky.

Had a Xmas lunch here with 5 others on Tuesday. Great service and food. Would recommend.

Visited here with my family last week after a long while and to say i was shocked at the change in the place is an understatement, im not sure whos in charge now but to say its gone down hill is me being nice , intimidating atmosphere with workmen at the bar very noisy and extremely drunk , not a family friendly atmosphere anymore, avoid with all costs if you have young children or elderly guests, shame on the new owner

Lovely Sunday roast today with the family X Starters were big portions prawn cocktail and pate ,Breaded mushrooms. We had mixture of roast beef ,gammon and chips and Cajun chicken burger. All very nice and service was quick, lovely friendly staff .

Went for early evening meal. Food was all well cooked and what I'd call fairly traditional pub food. Servers were all very friendly and service was very efficient. It was very quiet when we went as it was early so difficult to get a feel for the atmosphere. Plenty of parking to the rear and clean toilets. Would eat here again.

We were here in Bedfordshire for a funeral wake.

I met with friends for lunch and had a lovely meal. We all had the three courses for £15, well worth the money. All the food was cooked fresh and plenty of it. There was a really good choice on the menu. I would recommend you book a table as they get very busy. The staff very friendly.

Really good experience. An old country pub in a small village which has been extended with a large all year heated and cooled marquee. Excellent traditional menu with a lunchtime variant at great value prices. Staff are very welcoming and efficient, but when the place is full, can be overwhelmed. Good for functions as there is plenty of space in the marquee, the original pub is small but more intimate for couples dining. Give it a try, we love it.

Lovely place serving home cooked food at reasonable prices. We often come for a special occasion. Staff are friendly and we always have a good time. Toilets are clean, parking is ample. There is also a nice outside seating area with a climbing frame for children. Would definitely recommend. The home made cherry pie is well renowned in the area and delicious.

We had an amazing day at our Wedding 08/09/2023. Massive thank you to all the staff involved in the day, it was hot but you helped us manage as best you could. The food was amazing! This is a very friendly pub/restaurant with very helpful staff and the food is always lovely. Also have a small plate menu which is ideal for us as we are not big eaters

Was really disappointed with our experience! The hygiene was horrendous and resulted in both me and my son having food poisoning. The service and staff were all rude and the manger who was on had a disgusting attitude. Would not recommend.
