Stayed at a nearby hotel that didn't have a bar, so thought to come here as I saw they were showing the football. Grabbed a pint and sat in my corner, ready for a quiet night watching the football. Ended up sat with a large group of locals and had an awesome night; chatting, chanting, celebrating. Even though I was from out of town I was welcomed by all and I really felt a part of the community. Our team won too, so the atmosphere was fantastic. Absolute belter of a local pub, will absolutely return.

We had an evening meal in The Bell and a couple of really nice English pub beers. It is a typical and traditional lovely English pub, with a good beer selection and menu to match. The food was great. I had a steak and ale pie, which was home made and huge; my colleague also had a chicken, mushroom and Stilton pie, which was equally great. There was so much meat in the steak and ale pie that I was glad I didn’t have a starter. The freshly made puff pastry was a great match for the pie. Really good. Although I’ve eaten half of the pie in this photo, it’s probably the best and fullest steak and ale pie I’ve had. Ever! The garden is large with plenty of tables and plenty for kids to do too. A great meal and pint, in a quintessentially English pub. Ace!

I had the pleasure of visiting the bell while down here on a course from Huddersfield The food was fantastic. The ladylord and landlord are fabulous and welcoming Well worth a visit if you passing through or stopping in the area. I recommend the stake and ale pie the crust is crispy. Decent traditional pub food, well prepared and good value. Service also excellent. You won't leave hungry. Unfortunately it was let down by some of the clientele swearing loudly and frequently - and not mildly either, far from it. Don't bring your kids. Once they'd left it was much improved. (Update July 2024): We went for dinner just because we didn't feel like cooking. We sat in the garden because the weather was nice. The food was great in quantity see the photo for some serious pie action) and quality and we were served by a very pleasant gentleman who I think was called Steven. Unfortunately there was one occasion of the less-than-ideal behaviour that I mentioned previously but that was all. For that reason I still wouldn't call it a family-friendly pub. It wasn't very busy, being a midweek evening. Incidentally some people have commented negatively about the parking system. While we don't use it since it's walking distance for us, the pub has a good-sized car park and all you have to do is enter your registration on a tablet at the bar. This seems quite reasonable to me and stops non-customers from abusing the pub's own car park.

They charge £6.55 a pint. This is just your typical old pub, and it's close to £7 a pint. I left after 1 but the irony is I would of stayed and spent more if the prices weren't that high.

First time at The Bell and can thoroughly recommend. Saira front of house was so warm and genuinely welcoming . We had the choice of the bar or the newly furnished snug/dining area - we chose the snug . A lovely relaxing intimate area with warm decor. Drinks were promptly served and orders taken. Hubby had the sausage and onion baguette and swapped the nachos and salard for chips ...he loved all aspects . My Tuna jacket was full of filling and a perfect size . Karl the Chef hit the spot so we will definitely be frequent visitors. Great food ambience and service

Pleasant staff, decent veggie pie (SERIOUS puff pastry!). The more interesting pint had run out when I was there. I've stayed at too many Premier Inns to stomach Doom Bar, so I settled on John Smiths(!). Why 3 stars for atmosphere? Not sure. Mid week evening can't have helped. Also, it's amid one of those partly upscale housing estates that calls itself a village. The car park is "managed", needing you to register your reg on a tablet. Must be a reason for it, but it doesn't feel "pubby". Definitely drop in for food and a pint.

If you are looking for a trendy, modern pub, this isn't it. If you want to enjoy a small local pub, with friendly service, tasty meals, a couple of real ales as well as the usual suspects and plenty of space (outside) to relax then this place ticks the box. It has regulars, it has kids playing, and it has laughter regularly heard. It's a pub for the community, and it doesn't get better than that.

The company has refused my appeal and after explaining to them i gave the barstaff my reg. The Management doesnt seem to care about there customers after reading another persons review they said this. Quote "If you had contacted us directly in the first instance then we could have liasied with the parking company to try to solve this for you" When i called them they said its not our responsibility of our staff and you should read the signage. Should the staff not be helping its customers.? Obviously they dont care about they're business. I wont be going back or recommend the pub to anyone else. Overpriced Aswell.!

The Bell is our local and its a great little, traditional English pub. What was the snug is now the restaurant, where you can enjoy a good meal in peace and the main bar is dog friendly. Saira, Karl and the team will give you a warm welcome and the ale is good. There's a garden with play equipment. The food is typical pub fayre with generous portions. It's well cooked and in the current economic climate the prices are very reasonable. They also offer a great Sunday roast, but its best to book because it gets busy! All the meat comes from the butcher over the road who is a member of the Scotch Beef Association. He can track his beef from field to plate.

It started well with a good selection on the menu. When we came to order our breakfast sandwiches my friend asked how much it would be to add an egg to her bacon sandwich, at which point the waitress advised that the prices on the menu had increased so weren't correct & could only say they had gone up by about 50p. On asking for a sparkling water she advised that had also gone up by 20p maybe 30p, these increases were due to the cost of living increase. When we questioned why the menus hadn't been updated she advised there were new owners & it hadn't been done yet but that there was a sign on the wall inside the shop advising of the price increase, we were sat outside but to be honest anyone entering the shop wouldn't have seen it as it would have been behind them. She then brought out the A4 sign. She also tried to find an updated menu which she couldn't find. Firstly I am sure this must be illegal to advertise one price & charge another & secondly a hand written note could have been added to the menu or a copy of the price increase attached to the menu which everyone would have seen. Maybe the new owners should hold fire on the price increase until new menus are available as it may save their reputation. The breakfast sandwiches were very tasty, however the 'glass' that accompanied the sparkling water was in fact a jar with a thread for a screw top. Some might call it funky but not to everyone's taste. Needless to say it wasn't used. There are standards which have to be met & the clear advertising of correct pricing is one of them. We are all effected by the cost of living crisis & on occasions when we do our bit to support local businesses we might be watching the pennies too.

A very welcoming experience thanks to the excellent heritage centre guides who knew their stuff and pointed us in the right direction. The Centre is a must visit not just for aged train spotters but for every one. The line has a new future with East West Rail which needs all our support to get locals back on trains. Great coffee and cake made the day.
