I was quite excited by the concept and was assured by the owner there would be plenty of vegetarian/vegan options on offer. Having an Indian background my instant thought was ‘ok, can’t go wrong with the vegetarian dishes.’ We were a large group with kids. The seating was tight and we were unable to sit comfortably. Only 1 highchair available therefore unable to accommodate baby who had to remain in pushchair. Chef took considerable amount of time preparing what looked like Bhel. Drinks took a long time to reach our table. At this point, we had 4 H-ANGRY kids. Food arrived at a slow pace, which was largely disappointing since it lacked variety, flavour and spice. There was not a single piece of Paneer that was served for the vegetarians. This is a premium item for vegetarians like chicken/lamb is for non-vegetarians. There was no grilled Paneer for starters, nor Paneer curry as a Mains. The non-vegetarian food was mostly tasteless. The Pooris had already been pre-made with a coconut filling (not nice) so when we asked for Plain Pooris/ Naan for the Kids they could not accommodate. We asked for plain chips for the Kids we were served with curly fries. However when the Starters were served it oddly contained plain chips, we were baffled. When additional food/ drinks were requested to the table it was either very slow or forgotten about. On the whole I was completely disappointed with the quality and variety of food on offer. The service and communication was not great. The price per person / all you can eat concept cannot be justified. As a group we did not eat £20pp worth of food. For a vegetarian dining at this restaurant, it is very expensive for what you get. I cannot recommend this restaurant.

We had the pleasure of spending a wonderful Saturday afternoon where a whole new way of dining was introduced to us with food from a variety of backgrounds. Not only was chef Amin welcoming, he also ensured that the dietary requirements of our guests were met. The food not only tasted so good, it looked amazing and we could help but take pictures. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon. We will certainly be back

We ordered a take away of two curry boxes and were really disappointed with the amount, variety, quality and quantity of food. It cost around £30 for two small starter trays and two small watery curries with boiled rice. Really disappointed and will not order again. Not sure what the in restaurant experience is like, but the take away option is one to be avoided in my opinion.

Fab evening at The Crooked Skewer!! The food was so tasty and catered so well to both meat eaters and veggies! Loved the cool decor and way the food was served. The owners Chan and Amin were lovely and very friendly, catering to everything we wanted. It was very good value for money. Will definitely be going back soon and would recommend it to everyone one! Yum!

We went here for the lunch time Saturday offer. Initially upon entering I could see some of the decor was tired, rips in the seats, dirt in the gaps in the table. The 20 piece taster menu includes items such as popadoms, chips, rice; very basic items. Being Indian myself I found the food very bland and the quality was not there. Some of the presentation was really good with the dry ice but it wasn't consistent -chutneys in sticky tubes! The chutneys tasted shop bought. Also how as a "dessert", can you serve a single grape, strawberry and macaroon! All in all I would not go back and think the concept could be great but has fallen short.

Firstly, it's not really just an Indian restaurant. I think it's more accurate to say it' Southern Hemisphere cuisine, as it feature dishes from South America as well. Rather than order a particular dish you are served a selection of around 10 starter samples, and 10 main dishes samples. This allows you to try a variety of their menu so you don't risk ordering something new which you may not like. When you have finished your selection, you can then order more of you favourites if you are still hungry. The food we were served was high quality, particularly the beef dishes. As expected there were a few surprise tastes as well. I would describe nearly all the food as relatively spicy, so bare that in mind if that's not your kind of thing. Downsides were hygiene wasn't perfect. For instance the chutney containers were a bit sticky, and the box containing the poppadoms needed a clean. Desert was only a few pieces of fruit and biscuit on a sqewer. Nice, but hardly mind blowing. They also give you a "pallet cleanser" Which is a tube of yogurt served in a bowl of liquid Nitrogen I think. Its rather gimmicky, and the yogurt is so thick it won't pour out the tube. Overall though the quality of the food along side some of the unusual dishes which you may not of come across before make this resuraunt well worth a visit.

All restaurants promise to take you on a culinary journey, Crooked Skewer is the only place I’ve been to which fulfils that promise! As a self-proclaimed ‘foody’ and having been in the Indian takeaway business since the 80’s, I’d say the bar is always set high. It’s even higher if my wife and family are dining out with me. From the moment I stepped into Crooked Skewer, I was full of intrigue. I got that feeling of being invited to someone’s home and was greeted by Amin with genuine warmth. My kids were also instantly put at ease, and I loved watching the intrigue in their little faces. Amins business partner took the time to come over and have a chat with us, he was lovely, and you instantly knew this was all about the food and everything else took a secondary position. Nice to feel welcomed but what was the food like? Quite honestly, it was superb! It took me back to ‘mums’ cooking and I also got that nostalgic feeling of being back in Bangladesh. These guys care about their food, its not overly spiced which I thought showed a level of confidence other restaurants don’t seem to have. From the Bombay mix, the array of different papadums, salads, meat skewers, kebabs, sauces, they just kept coming. I was in food heaven! I kept thinking ‘how can they afford to provide so much food’?. I still don’t know to be honest, but at this moment, that wasn’t my concern. We had a pallet cleanser and then waited with more intrigue. To be honest, I was already pretty full and would have been happy paying the £11.95 per head price for what we had eaten. The mains arrived, a satellite of dishes and a bowl of rice (just how you would get if you were invited to someone’s house). This was a great touch for me and so were the little fried onions within the rice (again took me back 15-20 years). You just don’t see this level of attention to detail. The mains we’re great, again not overly spiced and I just sat back watching my kids eat with sheer joy. If you have kids who are fussy eaters, you will know the ‘joy’ I’m talking about. At this stage, I would have happily paid double the menu price. We didn’t quite finish everything and felt obliged to take the very little food home. ‘Obliged’ is probably a strong word here, but again it took me back to being a guest at a family members house, you just don’t leave food on your plate! The traditions my family taught me we’re kicking in. Honestly, I never get this feeling at other restaurants. The grand finale was the dessert. Amin presented this at the table and my girls were fixated. They loved the experience (and so did I). It’s tricky to explain, you just need to experience it for yourself. These guys are proud of their food but also have the humility to want to progress. Crooked Skewer have got something very very right. I walked away thinking ‘my mum would love to eat here’, honestly you don’t know how much of a compliment that really is. Thank you team Crooked Skewer.

I would definitely recommend this place, not only for the quality of the food but also for the efforts the friendly and attentive owner has gone to, to create a novel dining experience. The interior is quirky and a refreshingly different approach to Asian food is provided, the rickshaw parked outside giving a clue to this. I won’t spoil the surprise if you’ve yet to visit but rather than chose off a menu in the traditional way, you experience a ‘journey’ through food as it’s brought to your table in small manageable portions. The skewers were particularly tasty with tender meat and enough spices to make them very flavoursome. Congratulations to the owners for daring to be different and giving this town something you only get in bigger cities at last. On our visit it was pleasing to see a diverse clientele and the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. We will definitely be back.

Had a gorgeous takeaway from here this evening!.. Staying close by at Whycnor, travelling back from the NEC, so ordered enroute, and collected as we past, but they did offer delivery... A very busy place, which I can see why, sheek kebab starters, south Indian garlic chicken, chicken tikka passanda, veg pilau, bindal barghi, and cheese & onion naans were all perfect!! We love our local takeaway, and never find anywhere close to quality, but tonight we might have just found a better one!! Trouble is it's 300 mile from home 😅.. will definitely be back next time I'm the area!! Update Nov 2024: 12 months later and we're back in the area, not disappointed again, and another fantastic Indian takeaway, just as good as we remember 😍.. apologies for poor photos, we were dying to tuck in 😂😅
