The Cromal Hill Restaurant in Highland

As we were in Ardersier we decided to pop in for lunch. The menu isn't huge but it doesn't have to be, it catered for all our tastes, some of which are more difficult than others. We found the service was very good, very attentive and helpful staff. The food didn't take long to arrive and we'd had quite contrasting options, a vegetable curry and baked potatoes. No complaints about the portions and the food was very good. Certainly worth a visit if you're in the area or have been to Fort George.

We ate here on a Monday evening, the menu was not that which was online but a rather more limited one. I has the chicken pie, very tasty and filling. Hubby also enjoyed his meal. There was little interaction with staff and we had to the bar to pay our bill. Perhaps limited interaction and menu due to covid .

Had a very good lunch here. Two mains for price of one and service from Sarah excellent. Would recommend.

En primer lugar, personal cálido y amable, que sirve comida absolutamente encantadora. . . ambos teníamos lubina con patatas aplastadas y pisto. . . con una ración de verduras. Wir haben da übernachtet um schnell am Flughafen Inverness zu sein ( 3 Meilen). Von aussen sieht das Gebäude nur von einer Seite gut aus - vom Parkplatz her und den Türen nach wirkt es eher renovationsbefürftig. Innen sieht es anders aus. Das sehr gute und grosse Zimmer sowie das heimelige Restaurant/Pub haben uns aber sehr gefallen. Das Nachtessen ( 1× Lachs und 1x Steak-Pie) waren sehr gut und frisch zubereitet. Der Service war sehr gut und sehr zuvorkommend. Die grosse Auswahl an Single Malts ( eigene Karte) darf auch positiv erwähnt werden.

En la primera entrada, este restaurante parecía bastante pintoresco y agradable, pero el personal básicamente nos ignoró y éramos las únicas personas allí, la comida era sosa e insípida y el servicio de seguimiento fue peor que el servicio inicial, no dejamos propina, no recomendaría

Hat mich nicht Überzeugt, langsamer unerfahren Service. Das Essen war genießbar schön Angerichtet aber nichts Spezielles. Das Restaurant macht einen schönen Eindruck.

We stopped off at the Cromal Hill after visiting Fort George. The food was excellent and they have good vegetarian options. The staff were pleasant and attentive and the restaurant has a good setting..

On the main street of a small town, with a whitewashed row front and wood interior, good food and pleasant service -- just the sort of restaurant we wanted to eat at in Scotland.

Reservamos una mesa bastante tarde en el día en un sábado para las 6 pm. A la llegada nos sentamos justo al lado de la puerta y, aunque había poca gente en el comedor principal, las mesas restantes parecían estar reservados (creo que principalmente para los huéspedes del hotel).Cuando llegamos había 2 personal relativamente joven que era educado y amable. Pedir y tenía una larga espera antes de nuestro principales llegamos. La comida era promedio (en el mejor de comida de pub, no hay nada que destacar.Pedimos el menú de postres y tenía otra larga espera para que alguien tomara la orden y una espera más larga para los postres a aparecer. Nos dijeron que el ruibarbo sería de 20 minutos, pero estoy bastante seguro de que era más larga. Mientras había un flujo constante de personas que llegan (deberíamos saber que estábamos justo al lado de la puerta) El comedor estábamos en ni siquiera la mitad. Sólo hay 3 personal. 2 horas y 20 minutos por 2 campos es un poco mucho.

C’était le restaurant de notre hôtel, le Gun Lodge qui est juste à côté. Le dîner était très bon et typique, les plats sont copieux et de bonne qualité ! Grand choix de bières et whisky pour les amateurs :)Je recommande !

Absolutely delicious food time and time again cannot fault this place hidden gem in ardersier. Nice quiet friendly atmosphere where you can actually have a conversation 👍 highly recommended

My husband and I stopped in for lunch. The food was fantastic. I had the chilli with rice, a generous portion with a wonderful flavour. My husband had the burger again a good portion size and very tasty. The service was friendly and knowledgeable. I can't wait to go back.

We had a tasty meal here with fresh fish and game that must have been caught that morning. Good wine, good coffee, good desserts. It was one of the best meals of our trip.

Spending a weekend at Nairn and a friend recommended eating here. Well worth a visit. An excellent menu full of local produce with something for everyone. Nice kids menu too. We had 3 starters, 4 mains, 3 desserts and coffee for under £90. The venison haunch was amazing as was the game casserole. The service was so friendly, and despite being quite buy, the staff had time to stop and chat with customers, making us feel really welcome and creating a lovely ambience. We'll definitely be back.

The meal (and service) at this restaurant, which is connected to the Gun Lodge Hotel, is simply excellent. I had the salmon and it was delicious. The service was charming. For dessert, i had ordered that apple crumble and had to wait while it baked. That was expected and the result was worthwhile rather than some heated-up, limp biscuit. The selection of highland whiskeys is impressive. Highly recommended

Well the service was terriable there was two young memebers of staff working the bar and waiting tables they both clearly had no clue what they where doing at all!. The young girl was to busy taking pictures of herself behind the bar and complaining about how much cutlery she had to polish. The other making comments about another tabel of two ordering desserts and hoping they don't was so unprofessional. Not one of them asked if our meal was ok or if we would like more drinks nothing, to busy talking and giggling behind the bar. Considering the restaurant wasn't busy at all the staff cared about was clearing the rest of the tables of cutlery and going home but wasn't shy with charging us over £50 for our meal. The food was lovely can't say anything bad about it really enjoyed it but the service was awful. So because of the service and feeling you weren't really welcomed instead you felt like you were in the way we will not be coming back. Will no waste anymore money on it if im honest.

We were staying over in this lovely hotel (see separate review) prior to a flight from Inverness Airport which is nearby. We were expecting to have a basic pub meal in the bar and were very pleasantly surprised with our Dining experience which formed a fabulous start to our holiday.The menu is varied and comprehensive with quite a number of game choices as well as a good range of fish dishes. My venison was cooked to perfection and - quite unusual for the North - there were generous servings of several perfectly cooked veggies. Service was efficient and friendly and there was a pleasant, relaxed welcoming Highland ambience.Presentation of all three courses was simply perfection. My dessert was a work of art on a plate and my scallop starter was almost too lovely to touch (Thankfully I did though - and it tasted as good as it looked).If you are in the Inverness area for any reason I would urge you not to leave the area without sampling the excellent food at this restaurant - worth diverting to the pretty village of Ardersier just to eat here!

Been three times as a solo traveller food excellent, beer excellent, service excellent. I had battered hake and chips on two of my visits as it was so good!!

Quaint setting but found the food to be mediocre and the waitress was very inexperienced. The owner/ chef was rude and unwilling to adjust ANY part of a dish on the menu. "That is how we serve it here" was her reply to a simple request. The only good part of our experience was the sticky toffee pudding for dessert!!

Very good quality, delicious food. The service was also very good. An unexpected jewel in the Scottish highlands. We would happily visit again when in that region.

We only went for a Sunday Lunch and the menu was very limited. We opted for the Fish & Chips. It was OK but the batter was inclined to be a bit greasy. The chips and salad were fine. To be honest, the Fish & Chips just down the road at The Star are much much better along with a far better menu. The hotel itself has a nice atmosphere and quite charming.

Visited this quaint wee restaurant on our recent break in the Moray district.The meal was very nice and good value for money.The cauliflower and stilton soup was lovely.

We were delighted by harbour fresh hake accompanied by a mixed green salad and chips. Superb local produce combined with the culinary expertise of the proprietor is certainly the recipe for a delectable dinner.

My wife and I have eat here on many occasions and we are always very pleased with food, staff and the service. Good food and pleasant surroundings.

Called in on the way home for a quick lunch, had a couple of meals off the light bites menu, a burger and fish and chips, very glad we called, must pass that way again soon.

I had dinner here one night as it was one of the two restaurants within walking distance of my inn. I ordered the ribeye. It was slightly more done than I asked for, but still tasty. Service was good. I would consider eating here again when in the area.

Good food with good knowledge of gluten free. Very acceptable GF choices. Very attentive to customers needs. Good knowledge of local area too.

Lovely village, everyone so welcoming. Lunch was very tasty and served with a smile. Only a few minutes away from Fort George where we were heading for the tattoo so perfect spot to have a break. Thank you to all the staff on the 10th Sept.Will be sure to stop by again

We arrived a bit after the kitchen closed on our first night, and the chef was kind enough to prepare us a delicious meal anyway. We came back the second night, and the food was just as good. The staff is friendly, and very attentive to the guests. The service might take a little long, since the bar staff are also waiting all the tables and checking people in and out of the hotel. But it's absolutely worth it.

Friendly staff, Food was good not great. Not a lot of choices for restaurants in this area. Dinner at Star Inn is your other choice but it is mostly fried food. Continental breakfast was yogurt cereal and fruit. good but don't have the coffee...absolutely terrible

Non ho trovato molta differenza con altri ristoranti scozzesi. Ho assaggiato una zuppa del giorno buona , il pollo con la salsa al brandy e un hamburger. Sapori tipici scozzesi. In due abbiamo speso 28£. Il locale fuori è caratteristico!

Friendly staff and good Scottish fare. But ran out of specials before we got there which wants too late.

The care and attention Sheena and her team put into the service and quality of food was absolutely superb. The food is fresh and tasty and without doubt some of the best meals we have tasted in our travels around Scotland, and really well priced. The atmosphere is very welcoming, friendly, and professional. A real find...do yourself a favour!

We went here expecting normal pub grub after a busy day but we were amazed and delighted at how exceptional the menu was.We were served by the owner's son who was very friendly and made us feel welcome.The quality of the food was superb. We had the Gun Lodge Stack which was recommended and it didn't disappoint. It was cooked to perfection and totally delicious.The prices were reasonable and we would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area.

When a friend knew my husband and I were going to base ourselves for a few days holiday at a B&B a short drive away in Alturlie, she recommended we visit The Cromal Hill Restaurant at Ardersier.We decided to call in for an meal one evening and were not disappointed. The food was utterly delicious, well presented and the service, by the owners charming son, friendly and attentive. Certainly would recommend this restaurant, which is within The Gun Lodge Hotel and has ample car parking too. Don't be put off by the somewhat 'austere' entrance, with a flight of bare wooden stairs that greet you as you enter from the car park - turn right, open the door to the dining room and a you enter a warm and comfortably furnished dining room.(Note for Sheena: In Feng Shuai it is bad luck for business for the cannons in the fireplace to be pointing out at your customers!)

We both had lamb casserole which was very tasty but we felt would have been better complemented with potatoes rather than pasta.

Having enjoyed 7 nights of the combined comfortable accommodation (Gun Lodge Hotel) the Cromal restaurant was perfect given a range of daily specials (Cullen Skink is a must!) complemented by an already comprehensive menu of varied meals to suits taste, time available and budget. Whilst other local dining options were possible we had no motivation to venture out. Every meal was a delight in conjunction with an excellent range of beverages and some fine whiskies I recall.

I was staying overnight in a nearby guesthouse in the village of Ardesier near Inverness airport. So finding the Cromal Hill Restaurant in the Gun Lodge Hotel nearby was a wonderful discovery! It's a small comfortable restaurant in the hotel, with an interesting and very reasonably-priced menu, home cooked food, well presented by very attentive and friendly staff. After dinner I relaxed in the adjoining bar which was equally friendly and with a good range of beers, wines etc..Ten days later, on my return journey home via Inverness, I was able to enjoy the same friendly Scottish hospitality once again, and it was just as enjoyable as the first visit!

called in for lunch on the way from Inverness, had Cullen Skink to start, the best I have had, Chicken Enchilladas with Jalapenos for my main really enjoyed it, as I said previously, wish I lived closer,

Had some lovely food the other evening.. a selection of starters.. Spicy chicken wings, jumbo prawns in garlic, chunky homemade chips, bread with oil, balsamic and a delicious raspberry vinegar, and superb sherry marinated hot smoked Brown trout. All washed down with a pint or two of their fine craft ales and lagers. Can't wait to go back for their burgers, more beers and the Rockrose gin.The atmosphere is pleasing and not raucous, and the staff friendly and knowledgeable.

This restaurant (and the Gun Lodge Hotel) is ideally situated for Inverness Airport so we were very happy to dine there on our last night in Scotland. The service we received was impeccable - thanks to Sheena's charming son - and the food was among the best we sampled in the six days we spent North of the Border. A definite recommendation.

Although it has been several years since we were last in Inverness we went back to the GunLodge (The Cromal Hill Restaurant) for lunch before heading home. Sheena and Douglas welcomed us as old friends and the lunch was excellent. The Cullen Skink soup was really tasty and one of the best we've had. Lunch was as good as we remembered from previous visits, Thoroughly recommended

My thanks once again Sheena for making my Mum and Dads 65th Wedding Anniversary one that they will always remember. Your kindness and sparkle shone through to make their day a very special one.Living in Spain and trying to arrange a party on internet and telephone was always going to be hard but with your help and advice my job was made very easy. Your menu is really good with a wide choice to choose from and presentation and taste outstanding. The setting is cosy and comfortable with an exellent Malt Whiskey list.

Thank you Sheena for another fantastic evening. You and your staff never fail to please us with the quality of your meals and care in looking after us. Though my beef roast was a bit well done for my liking (much to my husband's delight!) it was very quickly replaced with an ample portion cooked exactly to my taste. We look forward to returning with our family and friends soon.

Called in for lunch after a trip to Inverness, we both had chicken enchiladas, mine with plenty of jalapenos my wife with not too many, superb just as always followed by the best cheesecake we have had for a long while, lovely food as always

Both of us live in Ardersier and this is a favourite haunt for us! Not only for the excellent real ales that Sheena has on tap, but for the delicious meals, great service and friendliness of the staff. We sometimes just pop in for Sheena's sharing platter for two and other times, sample delicious main meals. Local good quality produce really makes for quality in Sheena's menu - the sea food is glorious. Thanks Sheena, and we'll be popping in again soon!

Maybe we were unlucky but just had a fairly ropey roast lamb lunch. Nice veg although only 2 small roast potatoe, but the meal was let down by the lamb itself. Since we are not into fat and gristle we could only eat about half, and that was after much surgical work. Really, not good enough to merit the fairly hefty £10.95 price. Great choice of beers and ciders, nice hospitable service but we wouldn't eat here again.

I was staying at the Gun Lodge hotel, having dinner ( open until 9 o'clock only!). I had a homemade chili con carne which was great: just hot enough to feel the chili but not too hot so you can taste something else... Desert: Tartufo bianco (no white chocolate crumps but sugar :( ) which was nice.The restaurant atmosphere is very nice, clean and stylish with a separate bar room in the back area. All non smoking.Waiter was very friendly and efficient. It all fits well with the hotel Gun Lodge.

Once again I had a beautiful meal with my family. Great food and pleasant surroundings. Can't fault anything we had. Will be back again. Thanks

Had the steak and hands down the best steak I've ever had. Mushrooms, chips, haggis, onions rings. Fantastic service, fantastic food and most of all a fantastic pint.

We arrived at the restaurant starving but the friendly staff were quick to serve us. I decided to go for the Gun Lodge Stack, puff pastry with haggis and a fillet steak on top! It arrived quickly and hit the spot perfectly! It was cooked to perfection and I can say that I will definitely be back for more soon! Highly recommend!

Came to the Cromal restaurant for the Christmas menu. Portions were huge and food was cooked to perfection. Would definately recommend here to eat. Staff are very friendly.

We had a fantastic meal, the gun lodge stack is a specialty, the wine list was good and the selection of malt whisky was very wide. A brilliant night, I can't recommend the place more highly.

Great food and friendly service. Super real ales as well! Will definitely return when I'm next in the area.

This is without a doubt my favourite restaurant to visit when I'm in the Inverness area - every meal is cooked to perfection and the service is wonderful. There's something for everyone here, a truly great dining experience is to be had!

If your going to see Fort George or have just landed at Inverness Airport and you're looking for brilliant food, excellent service and great atmosphere head to the far end of Ardersier and go into the Cromal Hill Restaurant in the Gun Lodge Hotel. All the food is freshly cooked, the staff are excellent, great (and reasonable wine list) and 2 malts of the month at £2 and £4. We have stayed at the hotel and regularly go to the Cromal Hill Restaurant for meals or snacks. My personal favourites are the beef burger, the Chicken Stroganoff and the best Calamari I've ever had! All the food is good and very well presented and there is something for everyone on the menu and the daily specials board. Sheena (owner and Chef) and her team always give everyone a warm welcome and the newly decorated restaurant is looking fabulous. Well done to all - we'll be back soon.
