Great local pub, off the seafront

Had a cider in this local english pub. For £1 i had a better experience than in the big famous chain pub not far away. No view on the sea but a good atmosphère. Will be definitly be back for a dart game during my next visit.

Four of us went to this pub 2 days running and found everyone really friendly. The staff were lovely as were the locals. We are not from the area but were made to feel so welcome.

Always a great atmosphere. Friendly bar keeps and a good selection of ales. Never eaten here so can't comment on the rolls etc.

It's a proper old fashioned pub in the best possible way, always a nice atmosphere,lovely staff, if you want real ale 🍺 tick , ( gins 4 me 🤩 )various other events , bands , bbq, fund raisers , darts , cribbs etc .... in the winter an open fire , 🔥.......I believe it to be one of the oldest pubs in W.S.M, & the street has history, and photos to prove this , It's my local & will stick with it ! ......

We didn't have food, but we did get a warm welcome, great service, and a nice pint of ale 🍻

Good old pub looked like it was popular with the locals, think it had 5 ales on but mainly national, but still worth a visit

A little gem of a pub located behind the main stretch of the seafront, often missed. Obviously a locals pub but definitely a good thing. The landlord has a keen eye for quality and service which reflects in the beer and service on offer. Very friendly environment and welcoming. They have events and entertainment on offer. If you're not a local, or not following the Cask Marque Ale Trail, you are going to miss this place - and that will be to your disadvantage. The atmosphere in this tucked away local tavern, is the definition of good cheer, geniality and bonhomie. Off the beaten track, it is easily missed and those wishing to experience an atmosphere of genuine cordiality, miss something that the English pub is all about. This is just the place where I would bring American, or any foriegn tourist to see an ideal version of how we do things in Britain - I just wish every local pub was like this and I also wish it was my local. Those with an interest in history, will be interested to know this is one of the oldest buildings in the town. The late Victorian building eventually evolved over the years from a lodging house into a pub. The interior has some regional importance being almost unchanged since the time, the main interest being the impressive old curved counter and the fine mirrored bar-back. Snacks are available and the free cheese and nibbles on the counter on Sundays, is not so often seen now-a-days. And, being on the Cask Marque Ale Trail, the discerning imbiber can be assured of a perfect pint. This reviewers opinion of the Tribute (St.Austell Brewery 4.2%) was in perfect condition. K, the landlady, like many of the patrons, was affable and interested in any new faces. Well worth more than just another visit.

Great little boozer , tucked away down a side street, good pint of directors....spoons and fork & ale both of them very poor on real ale front....avoid them and head here....oh....and doggy friendly so even better .. !!

Nice little locals pub. Friendly atmosphere and surprisingly busy for a Monday afternoon. Dog friendly. Directors and Gem was on cask, another choice would be advantageous and maybe a craft keg.

The bar staff clearly stated that the locals take priority. I will never spend a penny in this pub as long as I live.

Great cider and very friendly staff

I went into this pub around 12 months ago and found it very welcoming with good ale. So thought I’d go back today. When I went up to the the bar he said only regulars allowed to drink inside and that I would have to drink outside. I left disgusted. This is not the way to run a pub and treat customers.

I count the Criterion as one of my locals, even if I do live in Sussex. This really is a great 'locals' pub with a very eclectic clientele, great real ales and a fab gin selection. Big thanks for a good night last Friday and to Aleisha for ensuring we didn't go dry!!

If your looking for a local environment this is it, nicely tucked away the old end of Weston super Mud, in the back streets dog friendly one room two levels, beer kept very well,we are not in Weston very often now but will return to this Bar any time we are. Psst keep this one to your self!

One of the best pubs I've ever been to, cracking array of beers, friendly atmosphere and great spot.

Very friendly and welcoming, the pub is newly decorated outside with 2 pieces of art done by 2 local artists. A nice selection of ales that change and a huge selection of spirits are available, and everything in between. The pub is nice and clean and it allows dogs!
