IKANJI Japanese Restaurant in North Somerset

Great place! We ordered prawn tempura, various kinds of maki rolls, teriyaki chicken, yakisoba, miso soup and katsu curry with the buffet, everything was up to par but admittedly we didn’t eat as much as we would have liked 🤣 Service was great, the waitress was very polite. Also tried the sake which came in a cute jug. Would definitely come here again !!

Family of 8 came here for my 60th birthday.. My grandson has allergies and the staff were exceptional in making sure his food was separate from ours.. We had the a la carte buffet and they kept bringing out plates of hot tasty food.. The terriyaki chicken is delicious and sauteed potatoes were amazing.. Different types of sushi and also prawns and veg in tempura batter... It is the best japanese restsurant we have eaten in.. Thank you to the wonderful staff and chefs who made sure my grandson was well catered for x

Update: Second chance. Come back after 2y to try sushi buffet. 👎🏻 not impressed. Definitely won’t be coming back again. ~~~ I have to say that we were waiting for this place to open with anticipation as we love Japanese food. Unfortunately during our visit we all thought that food was just OK. We were bit disappointed really. Meals lacked of flavour and seasoning. Especially Katsu curry sauce, really bland, lack of flavour. Chicken was very nice but Katsu sauce should be star of the dish and it wasn’t. Same with other meals, OK but we were not impressed at all, sorry. Saying that after our meals we thought that meals were overpriced for what was served. Not sure we will come back. Competition in Weston is strong and we will definitely go back to usual Japanese (Sakura) which so far was consistently good. Good luck tho. Hope that was just one bad day in the office. ☺️

Great service and nice food. We had the buffet menu and thoroughly enjoyed it. Next time, we will eat from the a la cate menu, but we will be back.

Terrible the chicken was dry. Noodles tasteless, potatoes overcooked. Very bad! The sushi was good and the teryaki sauce...not a good experience.

I visited this place a second time now. I wish I found it sooner. Amazing service, the food is so fresh and the quality is amazing. Definitely will add this restaurant to my favourites.

Delicious food and not hassled to buy extras… just great service and allowed to enjoy the evening A great place for my son’s birthday celebration and a lower bill than expected too 👏

The food from here is just wonderful. The quality of the salmon sashimi today was particularly good. The miso soup is also absolutely wonderful and flavourful. So good!

We waited over half an hour for any food. People who came in after us got their food first. It was only when the male server pointed us out we got anything. Plates arrived that we didnt order and im sure the steak dish my husband ended up with wasnt the one with peppercorn sauce he requested. Hecate it complained to me about it but not to the restaurant as we had a guest with us from Thailand and didnt want to wait again for his meal. I have been before to Ikanji and it has been much better. This was my first saturday night visit and while not full they were pretty busy.

We had a great experince here and enjoyed the all you can eat offering. The staff are really friendly and attentive really 10 stars there if I could give it. The food, its ala carte but all you can eat from a limited subset of their standard menu. Salmon skin maki was on the list, I thought it sounded weird, but no. Amazing, my fav dish of the evening. Superb place to eat.

Food was excellent and well presented

There was a daddy long legs enjoying his on the wall. If you've eaten sushi before, you would hate it, it's so mushy and no fish taste, the cheapest sushi ever. Go somewhere else.

We have dined many a times at Ikanji and it has been great, but we have ordered 2 times in the last 6 months and have received very bad quality food. The last time we gave a benefit of doubt but this time it was worst, the sushi tasted stale, the sea food udon had 2 prawns, 2 scallops, and 1 small squid (I guess) and lots and lots of veggies. We have tasted the same when dining at Ikanji but the one we ordered felt like they delivered the batch that was not made well.

Took my little boy here for the first time, he loved it so much. Taste delicious, we will be back

I didn’t received my order,I went to check at the restaurant and they said my order is being picked long time ago but never received…I needed to pay again for my order…on my app was showing that is preparing.

Great food! Well worth the price. Excellent main menu and the all you can eat menu also has a good range of choices and is fantastic value for money.

I came all the way from Hertfordshire to try this Japanese restaurant. I never regret the hours of travel. The Salmon teriyaki was so divine with the ikanji sautéed potato on the side. So many options from the menu which is worth the price. Surely a must try!

Placed and ordered for some sushi. Received something completely different. Got told the Chef definitely did it right and if I wasn’t happy just to request a refund. No offer to re deliver the correct item.

Absolutely stunning, I got the all you can eat menu & upgraded to sashimi & my friend got the gyoza & Katsu & it was so good! The place was busy, the food was quick & the all you can eat menu was so generous! Sushi lovers absolutely need to come here!

Appalling service. Ordered food for takeaway, they accepted the order and even sent a note confirming the delivery time. Then, at the time they were supposed to deliver, they cancelled it leaving us hungry and having to go somewhere else.

Was a little bit late but did not disappoint! Mainly ordered sushi and it was fresh and delicious. Will be ordering again as prices are not bad either!

Nipped in when I couldn’t face another fast food burger, and wow another gem in Weston Super Mare, friendly staff, and tasty food at reasonable prices. I had a small warm sake, Tori Teriyaki chicken ( very nice), a cider and then oh my the nicest cheesecake- a green tea one! Soooo yummy and smooth

Says they open till 10pm on Sunday’s and when we get there they hv decided to close early because they had no customers!! No wonder why they hv no customers with this kind of business practices. Reply to the response - Pls DO NOT advice when to eat out and what to eat out for your customers. If you state you are open open, just keep open and customers will come when they prefer to come. There is no mention of reservation only at half 9, so just dont make things up. I would never visit a restaurant who doesn't have good business ethics, it says a lot about food.

As always the food is incredibly fresh, great value and beautifully flavoursome. The staff are always very pleasant, it's a beautifully decorated restaurant with a lovely atmosphere and good music. I couldn't recommend this highly enough. I've been here 5-6 times now and each time has been as good as the last.

I recently had dinner at Ikanji in Weston-super-Mare, and it was fantastic! The food was some of the best Japanese cuisine I've ever had. Everything was so fresh and delicious—especially the sushi rolls and ramen. The service was top-notch too. The staff were super friendly and made me feel right at home. They knew the menu inside out and gave great recommendations. The restaurant itself has a cozy, welcoming vibe that made the whole experience even better. If you're in Weston-super-Mare and love Japanese food, you have to check out Ikanji. I can't wait to go back!

Been a few times now I never tire of this place the menu is quite large.you get a lovely warm welcome. Everyone is pleasant. a few nights they have eat as much as you like buffet the portions are quite large 😋 you can choose sushi chicken teriyaki.noodles .rice. soup fish. Curries and many more you certainly couldn't go through buffet menu. 😋 we had a nice Rose Zinfandel. I shall keep going back either with family or friends. thank you Everyone who work in IKANJI.

Usually order from here no issues but accepted my order for delivery then said they were closed (even though when i ordered they werent) then cant tell me how to get my money back.

Came to Ikanji to celebrate my birthday and delighted that we did. Some outstanding dishes: ramen, miso soup, an excellent sushi platter and wondrously good kinoko Itame (a vegan starter of mushrooms cooked in garlic soy and sake). Friendly service and a surprise at the end for my birthday. Very highly recommended.

Friend was visiting from Leicester and as it's a short walk from home seemed ideal. This restaurant was very quiet so we were served quickly. I Cannot fault the hospitality,decor or cleanliness. Miso soup was beautiful and we enjoyed the seared tuna. Green tea was a little strong for my taste but my friend enjoyed her warm sake. For main, I had beef teppanyaki, which is by name a Japanese dish of beautifully tender beef fillet served with Japanese vegetables. Unfortunately mine was not. The food was edible, but not Japanese. The vegetable accompaniment was more in line with a western Chinese noodle bar, over cooked and bland. ( See photo) Then the strange creamy potato side dish which had no right being on the side of a quintessential Japanese dish of Teppanyaki. My friend ate them and said they were nice - that's fine but it's not Japanese. My companion enjoyed her gyoza and her main course of chicken teppanyaki. I found it was so salty, I couldn't finish a mouthful. There were no Asian vegetables or Umami flavour on the meal which was very disappointing.

Atmosphere is was good. Tempura was tasty. I recommend tempura and soba. Ramen was fine but not the best according to my opinion.

Had dinner at the restaurant for my mom birthday. The restaurant has very good atmosphere feel clean and warm and welcoming. Staffs so friendly and helpful. Food was delicious and fresh every body was really enjoyed the dinner. The price is quite reasonable too. We will definitely go back soon. The food is excellent, very reasonable price, nice place, very clean, the service lets it down, bit slow, both courses turned up at once, took ages to pay, they appear more interested in the takeaway service. But, food is worth it, I will be going back.

Weve been twice here and on both occasions - we enjoyed our evening good menu - with something for all tastes - pleasent staff - lacked atmosphere - some traditional background music - would have been good 😊

Tonight, we visited this charming restaurant for the first time and I am certain that we're going to visit again. The service, from first greeting to final adieu was delightful. Our servers were attentive and helpful. The food we ate was beautifully prepared and cooked and, while not necessarily 5* in presentation, was most certainly all of that in flavour, freshness and quality. Thank you for a lovely evening. Highly recommended.

Fantastic as always great food well worth the cost

Not one for writing reviews but our experience at this restaurant deserves a five star one. We chose Japanese as we have never tried and sooo happy we did. The food and service was out of this world. And although we never booked as a birthday meal and just made a passing comment to the waiter. The next thing the whole staff came out with a traditional Japanese cake with a candle singing Happy Birthday with tambourines to my daughter which really made her night. Was the icing on the cake. Many thanks to all the staff at Ikanji and will be our go to restaurant in the future. Can not recommend highly enough.

Updated September 2023. Why? Well, because Ikanji now do an 'All You Can Eat' Menu of 18 dishes (photo of menu shown) which we tried and I have to say were brilliant! They have jiggled around the running order of the dishes over the past few months, putting all of the Maki dishes with the lower numbers, first and with the 'larger' dishes towards the end. I don't know why really, but here is a tip or two..... Don't start with number 1 (Miso soup) and plan to work your way through the menu numerically. Maki, as you may know, is rolled (in seaweed) rice with a central filling (Photo). So you will eat a lot of rice and be full well before the 'larger' dishes start. You order 3 dishes at a time, so Miso soup and perhaps a couple of Maki to start. Then order 3 more dishes. I call them 'larger' but all of the dishes are a decent size really, not mere taster portions. We have been to Ikanji several times now, and it is always excellent tasting food. Previous Review: Dined in with a party of three. An authentic Japanese food experience . We ordered a range of dishes, and each one was delicious. Fine dining really. That means you are getting good quality for which you pay a bit more. However, as long as you feel that you are getting value for money, then I think that is fair enough. A nice environment with pleasant multi-lingual staff (if you fancy practising your Japanese). We will be going again!

Delicious, hot and fresh. Tofu was absolutely divine

We love Japanese cuisine and found this little gem within easy distance of a large car park. Prices are good, the service exemplary and the food absolutely delicious with good portion sizes. The place was busy with lots of families and couples alike. The menu allowed for a wide choice of dietary options. Highly recommended, so why not give them a try.

Amazing restaurant. I think, it's the best restaurant with Japanese cuisine I've ever been. Delicious food, fair enough prices and very kind staff. We have been there twice and every time we tried something new - everything was amazing. Definitely will goo there again and worth visiting. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

The food was delicious BUT not very warm, was told that my order would be between 7.10 and 7.40 - this was updated to 8.00 but I didn’t get it til 8.25.
