Delightful and picturesque pub, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff. Really enjoyed a lunch with friends in the country at the start of a walk on the South Downs.

The children’s Chicken burger was truly awful, so overcooked and tough. The Lemon Sole the same with a strange taste. Like most Brits we didn’t return it but treated it as just calories as we were too hungry to move on and the four year old with us would have complained loudly.

Lovely and cozy, child and dog friendly. Lots of choice on the menu, attentive and friendly efficient staff. Our third visit and we will keep coming back. Our meal has always been a treat. Thank you.

We visited this pub a few weeks ago with our lovely friends from abroad. Everything was brilliant so I thought I would write my first review. The staff were very accommodating and were able to make adjustments for us. The food we were served was incredible but the portion sizes were just too big for us. Our friends from abroad were so impressed with this classic English pub and we will be sure to visit again. A special mention to our wonderful waitress Milly who was so lovely and made our experience enjoyable, listening to our old chatter and even offering to take a picture of all of at the end of the meal. Thank you The Cricketers Arms for a great meal.

A high-quality meal with lots of menu choices and gluten-free options. The service was good. It was Monday lunchtime, and they were full.

Lovely pub but I think the food I had wasn't good. The beef pie was gristly and quite dry. Nowhere near enough gravy either. I would not choose that meal again although this was possibly more a supplier issue. As I was with a friend I did not complain at the time. Hopefully these reviews are helpful though.

We had already booked here and were very warmly welcomed and shown to our table. The Summer menu was varied and reasonably priced. I chose a Monterey Jack cheese burger, and my wife, Scampi and chips. Our food arrived hot and very promptly. My burger was really tasty and the house fries raised both dishes to another level- they were crunchy on the outside and fluffy inside- absolutely perfect! We both had vanilla and blackcurrant crème brûlée and I had a coffee to finish. Both of our meals were delicious and we send compliments to the chef and the management/staff for their service and attention. Thank you.

Quintessentially English country cottage meets original Ale house. Garden to match. For me this pub has everything. A village pub where drinkers meet and a lovely dining option too. It exists for both. Too many pubs are now simply restaurants but not here. Not over restored, the building is still old and creeky but has great character. The staff are friendly and helpful. Lovely pub, good food, have been going for 20 years, but the welcome I got yesterday when I walked in with 2 friends was dreadful. The young woman at the bar made a point of not acknowledging me, in fact all 3 women who were there ignored me. Just a smile and ‘I’ll be with you in a minute’ or similar would have be great. Overall the atmosphere was below par due to sulky staff. Go and get a lesson in receiving clients with Sue at The Star Old Heathfield!

Fabulous trip to this wonderful pub, the setting is amazing with beautiful views and incredible garden front and rear - the service was brilliant considering how busy it was. Can’t thank staff enough for such a wonderful family lunch for 15 on Saturday. Everyone was made to feel very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. Everything ran like clockwork - the waiting staff and hospitality were first-class, as was everyone’s food. Compliments, indeed, to the Chef and kitchen staff.

We had an excellent lunch of steak pie and chips. Service was friendly and efficient. Lovely friendly atmosphere. We very much appreciated being able to bring our dog into the pub with us.

We have been here quite a few times now is always been really really good. We came yesterday evening for a turkey dinner it was absolutely marvellous. The staff are always really friendly, especially Jenny and we get really good service and it’s good value for money

Lovely cosy pub and friendly welcoming staff. Except for the manager. I chose the veg wellington with “pistachio and red cabbage “etc . There was no sight or taste of pistachio & no flavour whatsoever to the red cabbage or anything else on the plate except one roasted carrot and one roasted parsnip, which I ate and enjoyed. The rest of the meal was a large inedible mountain of flavourless shredded veg with a circle of soggy half-cooked pastry on the top . When the waitress took our plates away, mine with most of food still on it, she didn’t ask us how the food had been as you would normally expect. When I asked for the bill I told the waitress I explained about my main, that it had been inedible. She spoke to the manager who came and stood next to our table. He was quite unfriendly and quite intimidating and asked me to explain again what had been wrong - then just repeated “we can’t refund a meal just because you didn’t like it”. No apology. No offer to take a glass of wine or coffee off the bill as a goodwill gesture even. Apparently it was all my fault! (My friends meal wasn’t great either but edible. )

Excellent Christmas food, beautifully cooked with fresh vegetables and tender meat. Loads of natural flavour. Prompt, without any hurry, service, friendly and attentive. £25 per head for excellent food.

We were taken to lunch by a friend and received a very warm and friendly welcome from the staff. Two people had the roast Turkey which they said was very good and I had the Sussex Smokie which I can honestly say was the best I had ever eaten. We will certainly return.

This is our 'go to' pub restaurant! It's hard to choose from the menu, cos the fillet steak is fantastic, and blue cheese sauce the best yet!! Although we've sampled most of the menu, it's our favourite. We've booked our family Christmas Dinner 2023 here too 🙂

Have visited this pub for 40 plus years in the days of the Downland pie! Went there with family and came away very disappointed. The pie of the day was tasteless , no hint of the madeira that was supposed to be in it. The mash potato was a hard lump, I had egg and chips . the chips were lovely but the fried eggs were cold, and the yoke so under cooked it was jelly like, With just one half pint and a soft drink we paid £66. What with that and the miserable music we did not have a good experience. Staff were very friendly and helpful .

This pub and restaurant is surely a ‘hidden gem’ worth seeking out as it’s tucked away just off the A27 close to the Drusillas roundabout; we have only recently discovered it to be probably the best value, most delicious menu in the area, with some excellent diversity for GF as well as Veggie and Vegan options. Personally I find it hard to move on from the ‘Sussex Smokie’ dish which is a stack of deliciousness - prepared and served to perfection. A traditional setting - equally welcoming in these colder winter days as well as the happy summer pub lunches, now becoming a distant memory. We WILL be coming back again; our only ‘bleat’ is that it’s not open Christmas Day as if it were, it would have been an obvious choice. It is that good.

We arrived on a cold wet day only to be turned away by a rude unfriendly manager. We’d stopped on the off chance of getting a table because we were passing by. There are ways of communicating with customers and telling them they can’t have the table in case the locals come in, isn’t how to do it. There was a large empty table, apart from one man at the far end - if this is for locals that’s fine, just put a reserved sign on it or say ‘I’m sorry we’re fully booked’. Of note, the young lady we spoke to at the bar was friendly and very pleasant, it’s just a shame this wasn’t the case with the manager. I thought maybe we had caught her on a bad day but I can see that we’re not the only ones who had a bad experience. We’ve had good service here previously but won’t be going back. I can’t comment on the food because we didn’t get any!

Excellent Sunday lunch in the pretty garden at The Cricketers today. Plentiful fresh vegetables, nothing overdone. I had the vegetarian Wellington which was exceptional, and my son had the pork - again very generous and all sensibly priced. Friendly and very well organised welcome in a delightful old country pub.

Wow what a beautiful pub. Treated to lunch there by a friend and ordered the cod and chips. Ate every bit. It was the most delicious fish and chips I have had for a very long time. Wonderful ambience. Friendly and accommodating staff. Will be going there again soon.

Well deserving of 5* rating, for friendly service, nice menu, and food that has the character and flavours of being cooked with care and passion. We have in the past met friends here for drinks but have rarely eaten here in the past and greatly welcomed this reminder of this pub's lovely garden, cosy interior and brilliant service. I don't understand the headline 4* rating and note all of the recent reviews highlight how good The Cricketers Arms is.
