The Covenanter Hotel in Fife

Falkland is a historic picture perfect village made even more famous recently by the Outlander TV series, which I've never seen. I do know that our hotel features in the drama as a post WW2 bed and breakfast. We loved our stay here. We were located in the Outlander double room which I'm told was recently refurbished. It was spotlessly clean, really comfortable and suitably furnished for the era of the TV series. We loved it. The new showroom was very chic. Staff at the hotel were incredibly helpful, friendly and hard working. Our evening meal was first class and great VFM. Included breakfast was excellent as was the service. The hotel have a great cafe as part of their restaurant area. The busy bar has a great atmosphere and a good selection of draft beer and spirits. I can highly recommend their whisky flights. The only slight complaint (which is no fault of the Covenantor Hotel) is that the other 2 local pubs and a nearby cafe are all now closed. That said, we were more than happy to just stay where we were. Caitlin and all the staff were superb throughout our stay. Oh and our room had what seemed to be a full SKY TV package and you can also log in with your own Netfix and Amazon Prime if you over indulge in the great food and drink and need an early night. Superb

Arrived and was seated, then ignored for half an hour, wasn't even brought a menu. There were only two other tables occupied so the staff were certainly not run off their feet. Left without ordering/eating. Very disappointing, specially as this appears to be the only place in Falkland open on a Sunday.

Can’t even complain about the service because there wasn’t any! To the point that we didn’t even get round to ordering food OR drinks, blonde server made us feel extremely uncomfortable to ask for a table and every other server was frowning. We asked if we could have tea and coffee and one server replied “if you want to wait”. If you’re looking for a place to get dirty looks and bad service, this is your place to go! (from one waitress to another) Quite happy to know we will not be back!

The food is pretty good here, but the service is very chaotic with very young server, and the dining room is always freezing.

Gute Lage, mitten im Ort und gegenüber vom Palace. Wir genossen ein paar leckere Getränke und konnten sogar noch draußen sitzen. An der Bar sehr nettes Personal. (Natürlich ein Muss für Outlander Fans!)

Bar was busy and service was slow. Waited approx 50 mins for food. Once we had our main course, we asked for a desert. We were told it was too late and the kitchen was closed. This was 8.15pm! My husband raised this when he paid our bill. He was told it was a new server who didn't know any better and they could have sorted something for us but by this time it was too late. We would never have gone there if we knew we had to have finished eating by 8.15pm. Won't return. Very disappointed as this is local to us however customer service not up to scratch.

This is a charming hotel that was used as a filming location in the popular series Outlander. Very quaint and clean, with a lovely restaurant open to the public that serves a very reasonably priced lunch and breakfast scones. If you are an Outlander fan, you have to go there! For others, definitely worth a stop when in the area.

It was a thrill to stay at The Covenanter Hotel and in the room used for Outlander, at least the exterior. The inside looks nothing like in the show so that must have been somewhere else or on a set. The bathroom was decent with a shower. The bed was a little lumpy and they should really change the dirty/stained carpet. The door did not lock; my daughter was able to open from the outside by just jiggling the knob. My daughter stayed in the “James” room which was much larger and had a key pad not an actual key like I had, not sure why they don’t do the same for the Outlander room. The food served in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast were delicious. Service was very helpful and pleasant and answered emails prior to the trip quickly. You do have to go up a large spiral staircase to get to the rooms which can be difficult with large luggage. The town is small with limited shops but so glad we went to experience it all.

Recently moved to falkland. Tonight was 1st time in my new local. Lovely place with great staff. My new local place for a beer or 6

We came for afternoon tea for my father in laws birthday and it did not disappoint. Located in the town of Falkland, the Covenanter provided the best afternoon tea I’ve ever had. The staff were awesome and very accommodating. A lovely place with the best cheese and pickle sandwiches I’ve ever tasted. Highly recommend

Popped in for some drinks and cake! Daughter said the hot chocolate was amazing! Cakes and scones were delicious. Managed to get a seat no problem, lovely inside! The girl who served us was very friendly and welcoming even although she was quite busy. Would go back again

The Covenanter is a lovely restaurant with friendly staff. We have been a few times for Afternoon Tea, and the value for money is great. The cakes are delicious. The only thing I would say is that our table was positioned right beside the toilets, which meant it was quite busy with people coming and going. Other than that, it was lovely, and we have sat at a nice table at the window before.

Plenty of choice, great quality and super and hot. Quite delicious. Beautiful pub, warm and welcoming. Friendly and obliging staff, would highly recommend.

Terrible food. Table of 5 of us visited for a family lunch-1 out of 5 meals were mediocre at best the rest terrible…..how can you fail to make a decent baked potato and sandwich?!! Complained and the waitress just smiled and took the plates away….complained again when paying the bill and again nothing was said…….perhaps an indication of regular complaints?!! Save your money and go somewhere else-anywhere else! Will never be back.

Abbiamo alloggiato qui una sola notte in occasione di un viaggio on the road in Scozia. Sia io sia il mio compagno siamo fan di Outlander e abbiamo alloggiato presso la struttura che ha fornito gli esterni per la serie tv. Le note positive della struttura: - il silenzio del paese. - La moquette. - Il food kit di benvenuto. - Il wi-fi e la tv con Sky. - La comodità del letto. - Buona la cena (anche se non proprio economica). Le note negative: Con il costo non proprio irrisorio della camera e il fatto che è stato girato qui Outlander avrei avuto piacere di ricevere un kit di benvenuto "a tema" o comunque un piccolo tour ad hoc sarebbe stato molto carino. Un mio consiglio è quello di integrarlo, farete più felici i fan della serie. - Non mi è piaciuto il fatto che appena ho messo piede nell'hotel, la signorina al bar mi abbia immediatamente fatto pagare la camera (senza neanche averla vista, "sulla fiducia"). Non è un comportamento che mi è piaciuto. Nota personale: la stanza per quanto carina e agevole non era quella che avevo immaginato (avrei voluto quella che dava sulla piazzetta, avendo prenotato con LARGO ANTICIPO speravo fosse quella) ma pazienza. La stanza era comunque bella, pulita e silenziosa. - la doccia non aveva il vetro né la tenda, indi per cui il mio compagno facendo la doccia, inevitabilmente ha lavato il pavimento del bagno. - Buffet della colazione un po' limitato. - il mio compagno ha rischiato di pagare la cena due volte, a causa della disattenzione della signorina (la stessa del check in). Best bar in Falkland according to my husband, who tried them all on a short break! We both had lunch which was really nice, fresh food and good service even at the end of what had clearly been a busy lunchtime. Good selection of drinks too.

Nos pareció muy mal el trato. Llegamos al restaurante y estando casi vacío, nos mandaron a comer a la calle, ademas luego no entró casi nadie, y llegó gente posteriormente y si les dejaron entrar. Problema que éramos españoles? No lo sé!!! Además no vinieron a pedirnos la comanda, tuvimos que entrar a pedir, a otros mesas si fueron. Y por último teníamos cierta prisa, y se lo dijimos, ya que el guía nos dejó 1 hora para comer y pasaron de nosotros y nos dejaron solo 10 min para comer. Muy desagradable todo. Y a eso suma que la comida no era nada del otro mundo.

This is a great place for food in a superb setting! There's a good range of options and the staff are really friendly and helpful. I went for the steak and Guinness pie which came with lovely fresh veg, the carrots were particularly nice. Would definitely recommend!

A movie made this place famous and I expected a tourist trap. Wrong. A very nice restaurant with a local vibe. Actually it was pretty full and the vibe was so nice. Charming interiors, old style countryside, great food, good wines, unpretentious but delicious. My risotto was delicious and the burgers great!

A charming public house set in the town square, named after a 17th century religious and political movement, sits by the monument and a stones throw from the Palace. Beautiful architecture surrounds. Coffee was nice and the staff helpful. Nicely stocked bar.

Visited twice in a four night stay in Falkland. First for a drink only and then for an evening meal. Service was pretty bad both times. Didn't offer to bring drinks and glasses to table when we ate or even give me a tray despite seeing my hands were full. Both staff just left the bar instead and I had to go to and fro to the table which was outside. The food was tasteless and fatty (burgers and fish) and poor value. Lets the beautiful village down.

I had lunch here whilst on a trip to falkland. The restaurant serves quite a good selection of hot food. My steak and Guinness pie was cooked well and was tasty. Service was attentive too. A good choice for food and drinks when you are in falkland.

Stopped here for a night very busy bar beer was very good evening meal was also very good my wife is gluten free not many choices for her but manageable well cooked and plentiful had a nice table in corner of the bar we enjoyed it the only disappointment was breakfast no gluten free bread for my wife ?? Five of us went for an afternoon tea for my mum's 80th birthday. Two of the party had prosecco and the rest had tea. We were given two large trays of sandwiches, two platters of sausage rolls and haggis bites, followed by two tea stands of cakes and 5 huge home made scones with cream and jam. All of the food was delicious and the service was excellent. Superb value for money.

We visited the Covenanters prior to a concert at Rothes Halls. Our meals were fine and we had a table in the warm busy bar area. Staff were very pleasant and we considered the visit value for money. A special restaurant in a special location...

Our Rabbies tour stopped at Falkland around teatime and we were peckish. Very clean inside and the most delicious lemon drizzle cake home made was served. Good coffee. What more could you want.

Nos alojamos aquí para celebrar nuestro aniversario de bodas de plata. De principio a fin, no podríamos haber pedido más. El personal fue siempre amable y fabulosos trabajadores. Bien hecho a todos ustedes. Tuvimos una comida deliciosa y una botella de vino antes de salir a ver pasar el mundo. Nos alojamos en la habitación de Outlander, que era preciosa, limpia y peculiar. Nos encantaría quedarnos de nuevo en el futuro.

Nuestro último viaje a Falkland fue en junio / julio de 2017, donde dejé una reseña de 5 estrellas aquí para este hotel basado en una comida. Lamentablemente, la comida del domingo fue mala. Para empezar, los dos comimos sopa de lentejas al curry. Tenía una buena patada, pero no en el buen sentido. La sopa era normal, habría sido bueno recibir un poco de mantequilla con el buen pan que la acompañaba. Los platos principales fueron las principales decepciones, comí la hamburguesa de ternera con tocino y espero estar equivocado, pero estoy convencido de que fue recalentada: la hamburguesa estaba muy, muy seca y tenía un sabor "raro". Lamentablemente me molestó el estómago, ya que solo me recuperé lo suficiente para escribir esta reseña. Mi novia tenía el estofado y dijo que estaba bien, sin embargo, las verduras eran muy insípidas y el tamaño de la porción era enorme, dijo que el estofado era normal.El servicio fue muy bueno pero no perfecto, los protocolos COVID estaban bien diseñados, aunque encontramos algunos clientes idiotas que rompían las reglas. Algunas personas no pueden recibir ayuda.En general, quiero decir que volvería basándome en nuestra primera experiencia, pero después de estar enfermo por comer algo poco fiable (estoy 90% seguro de que fue la hamburguesa), me temo que probablemente probaremos en otro lugar cuando visitemos Falkland de nuevo.

Entró para recuperarse de la visita al Palacio de Malvinas que valió la pena y realmente me gustó el ambiente: personal amable y encantador, un bollo muy sabroso con una gama razonable de tés de hierbas a un buen precio. Me encantó el pequeño baño de damas pequeñas (¡debes ser creativo para manejarlas con muletas!). Otras comidas que vimos que servían se veían bien.

Excellent staff and service, left very satisfied. Can highly recommend the Haddock mornay. Not the first time I have been with family and friends and definitely wont be my last, if you are visiting Falkland this would be my first choice for lunch.

Stopped in for lunch and was not disappointed. The meat pie and the fish and chips were delicious and the portions quite large. Neither my husband nor myself could finish our meals. Nice selection of wine and not too pricy. Service was a little slow for it not being very crowded, but the server was very friendly.

We visited Falkland Palace & Garden and called in here for lunch. The service was friendly and attentive and the food was spot on. We both really enjoyed what we had and the food being brought out to other diners looked very good.

Bij onze tussenstop terecht gekomen bij de B&B in Falkland uit Outlander S01E01. Leuk dorpje met de karakteristieke fontein als "Inverness". Vriendelijke bediening, lekkere koffie en gebakjes. Aanrader als tussenstop.

It can get really busy in here around lunchtime but we managed to get into the restaurant. We both had a special from the board and the food was yummy and hot :) Delicious decaf vanilla latte and very friendly staff.

Popping in after a visit to the palace and looking for lunch at just after 1.30, we were told we could only get a table if we were having coffee and cake. Lunch orders were closed. We hadn’t seen a sign indicating that lunch closed at 1.30 so this was a bit surprising, especially as there were plenty of tables available and we got one for those who wanted cake.The cakes seemed to be of a reasonable quality but I was looking for something savoury and had hoped for one of the sandwiches on the menu displayed outside. Bit of a disappointment. That said, the place is well located just up from the palace and the setting was lovely.

We went there two times for food and cofeee whilst staying at our friends’ in Falkland.The lady who served us was super friendly and when they were closed for lunch the first time we tried to eT there, she recommended us where to go and therefore we thought it would be great to go back for coffee and cakes. The next day we also went for lunch and it was quite affordable and worth the value! Highly recommended:)

It is hard to avoid a beautiful location in this wonderful village. This restaurant location is no exception. For all the charm, though, the food puts it back at even keel. I had the steak pie, and the steak was too salty with a pastry crust that lacked taste. Not a must in the city, so drop in if you are in a rush or local.

We had lunch here during a visit to the Palace. We shared a BLT sandwich and a bowl of chips, both of which were very tasty. Sat outside watching the world go by, doesn't get much better!

Thoroughly enjoyed the steak pie here, was simply delicious and divine!! Was defiantly needed after being on the bus tour for a few hours visiting various parts of fife and what it has to offer. Was very kindly greeted by your waitress meg, she was very attentive, pleasant and I received a 5 star service whilst in this restaurant/pub from her. Friendly staff and traditional surroundings, this was a great find for lunch. Great food, reasonably priced and located right in the centre of the village. One of the locations used in the TV series Outlander so was full of American tourists but staff were friendly, efficient and very patient. Would defo recommend.

Didn’t stay here but walked through during a tour of the area. Wonderful atmosphere in a period building, well appointed and cared for. Full service accommodations and sit down restaurant.

Like many others, we visited Falkland because this restaurant appears in the Outlander story. The restaurant is actually quite nice. I love the decor and atmosphere. The food is good. The steak pie is delicious. The staff is nice and hospitable. We also got a chance to take pictures (of course!) outside the restaurant after the meal.

Visitando como parte de nuestro viaje por Outlander Road, también lo hicieron todas las fotos y decidimos probar el restaurante para una cena temprana. Que maravillosa, acogedora y amigable experiencia. El servicio fue rápido, amable y profesional. Gran cerveza helada. Haggis Bon Bons como titular fue increíble. Mi esposa comió el pollo con Haggis / Hice el pastel de bistec, ambos deliciosos y fue una de las cenas más baratas que tuvimos durante todo nuestro tiempo en Escocia.

Visité el palacio de Falkland, una visita obligada, y enfrente estaba el hotel. Fue construido en 1780, aunque el café era un poco viejo, pero la sopa estaba deliciosa con pan y mantequilla abundantes. El pescado y las papas fritas con guisantes blandos fue una delicia para las papilas gustativas: la masa era fresca y el pescado tan liviano y escamoso. Un precio razonable también - 10 para el pescado y las papas fritas - el personal era muy amable y se podía disfrutar de una broma - los aseos podrían beneficiarse de una actualización - no más de 1780 sino más de 1970 - en general, un lugar encantador para el almuerzo ??

Fuimos al pequeño pueblecito de Falkland (precioso, por cierto) siguiendo nuestra ruta de localizaciones de la serie 'Outander'; en este hostal es donde se hospeda el personaje protagonista en el primer episodio. Como tenían un restaurante y leimos varias reviews buenas sobre él decidimos probar y, sin duda, una de las mejores comidas que hicimos en el país. Comimos pasta (macarroni cheese & penne pasta with mushrooms), chips y un poster de maltesers que estaba para chuparse los dedos. Super atentos y con un rinconcito con cosas de la serie (incluidas fotografias autografiadas).

Decided to try lunch here on our visit to Falkland. We were greeted warmly and shown to our table. The service was prompt and friendly and the food excellent and well priced. We had the baked potatoes which came with plenty filling, lovely salad and coleslaw. The cakes and coffee were also very enjoyable, We'll definitely be back next time we are in the area.

Las chicas que lo llevan fueron muy amables, cuidan hasta el último detalle, muy simpáticas, tienen un rinconcito temático de Outlander, la comida muy buena y para nada caro. Recomendado.

This is the hotel that was used as the hotel Claire and Frank stay in during Season 1 of Outlander. The whole town itself stands in as “Inverness” for multiple seasons. What Outlander fan ISNT going to eat at the Covenator Hotel? We were just driving through and visiting, or else I probably would have stayed there as well! We came on an early Tuesday afternoon, and it wasn’t busy at all! We were quickly seated and our food arrived very fast! I had the pesto chicken baguette and it was warm and delicious on that cold day! The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We couldn’t stay very long, so we left after we finished eating (but not without grabbing a peanut butter crispie from the sweets counter on the way out).

We popped in here for some lunch after a long walk, the lady serving us had a horrendous attitude, I wrongly started to give her our food choices when she snapped at me that drink orders come first!

Went there a couple of times just for coffee and scones, have to say: the best coffee in a large radius of miles! fantastic scones, too !

Aunque no pudimos encontrar personal cuando entramos por primera vez al local, pronto vinieron y nos mostraron una mesa. La orden fue tomada rápidamente y servida muy rápidamente de hecho. Pedimos el pollo relleno con haggis y también el pastel de carne. Las comidas eran deliciosas y las verduras estaban cocinadas a la perfección. El menú de postres era muy tentador y fuimos por el pudín de toffee pegajoso con helado que era ligero y delicioso. Las copas de vino eran mucho más grandes de lo esperado, tal vez se podría ofrecer una cantidad menor.

La decoración moderna es agradable y el servicio amable y eficiente.

Reservamos para cenar un sábado por la noche. Los Covenanters fueron acogedores con una docena de comensales ya sentados.

Lovely food and very accomodating for families. Very good priced. Would definitely recommend. Will be returning if back in the area

Made popular with the Outlander Series this Hotel is actually really modern inside (it doesn't look anything at all like Mrs Baird's B&B;) and it does get really busy with tourists. We stayed in the Bruce room and it had nice view overlooking the Church and the Bruce Fountain Monument where Jamie Fraser looked up at. The bathroom was also a good size with a walk in shower. Usually you have to book in advance if you want to dine in the restaurant area although the food is quite good with a decent choice. The pub area in the front of the building was also a nice area to relax when the tourists had gone. There is no Hotel car park but plenty of free parking around the side streets.
