The Central in Fife

We happened upon this place in St Andrews .Loved the decor ,decorative ceiling lots of wood, really nice bar. My husband order the Belhaven steak n ale pie and said it was the best thing he had to eat so far on our trip. I had the bacon cheese burger and it was good as well . Large portions so you won't go away hungry . If you are coming here note that you order your food and drink at the bar and they will deliver it to your table .The bartender was very friendly.

Popped in on our first night in St Andrews. Nice selection of beers and a good buzz around the place even on a Monday night. Had the Bloodhound Chocolate Orange stout. Great flavour

My friend and I were just denied service due to a situation we were unrelated with a week ago. We both did not do what was claimed by the staff and they proceeded to deny us service regardless due to the actions of someone else. This is extremely disappointing and we hope this situation can be rectified in the future.

We dropped in to Central bar today and had some lunch really enjoyed the food and the staff treaded us like friends would highly recommend you drop in when in St Andrews

Stopped for late lunch, pretty busy. Grab a seat wherever one’s open. Sat right down no problem, only two of us. You order at the bar and they deliver to your table, pretty quick service. The Korean sticky chicken was good, the fries excellent . The burger was tasty but was cooked wet done. Nice atmosphere

Husband had Korean sticky chicken and said it was good. I had bacon & cheese burger. Comes well done, so ask if you want it otherwise. French fries crispy and were very good. Good selection of beer.

Went there 2 days ago. The bar was buzzing and service was quick and excellent. We ate there too and the food was good, decent price and a decent portion. Recommended highly but it was busy so try and get there ³

A legendary bar in the centre of St. Andrews. I used to drink here over 20 years ago and I'm happy to say not much has changed since. It has maintained its character and style. great beers on tap, plenty of spirits. Can get busy at times. Good seats outside to people watch on a sunny day. Didn't eat here, so can't comment on the food. Always a great atmosphere. Staff were polite and efficient. If you're in St. Andrews, I would say a drink in here is necessary. Definitely one of the best pubs in St. Andrews.

I took my golf tour group in for a quick drink 🍸 🙃 they loved it, thanks to all the staff behind the bar we didn't have any food but from what I saw it looked fine eotths visit 😀 😄

Popular bar: I was surprised to get a seat. Belhaven beer in good condition. Pleasant efficient staff. Definitely recommended as a town centre pub!

The beer I chose wasn't great but that's no one's fault. But for one pint and half a Madri I was charged £10.25. Absolute disgrace. I can't see any justification for that despite cost of living/ business etc before that's given as an excuse. Won't be back. No atmosphere either.

Terrible food, but good service. I went in today as we were in St Andrews and were craving a pub lunch. We waited about 40 mins for our steak sandwich and club sandwich. The club sandwich was edible and tasted ok but the bread was very dry and the chicken chewy. The steak sandwich was woeful… it consisted of two slices of dry white bread, 2 tiny slices of burnt brown meat (assume this was steak) and a big bit of soggy, mayo drenched lettuce.. for £12 this was awful. But the waitress was very understanding and gave us our money back instantly - good service! We then went a couple doors down to Tesco and got a meal deal for £3 which was significantly better than the pub food Recieved in the central. Won’t be back.

Looks like a traditional pub, but I was totally thrown off by the sheer volume of university students. Volume meaning both quantity and loud. Don't get me wrong, the pub is OK, just not the atmosphere I want. Front patio was full, inside was full. All signs of a popular spot and a testament to the owners. Sadly, I was disappointed in the taste of my food, and left quickly after one beer.

Super friendly staff and very efficient. Being dog friendly always a bonus. Opted for 3 little ones for £16 for lunch, two were very good though. Loved the old fashioned surroundings which added to the atmosphere. Previous visit we were seated outside but wouldn't serve food there.

Thursday lunchtime, quiet but a nicely kept pint of Abbot Ale.

Delicious Fish and chips and a very good salad with grilled cheese (gluten-free dish). It is worth emphasizing that they have a dedicated menu with gluten-free dishes. Very nice and helpful staff and a great atmosphere of a classic Scottish pub. I heartily recommend it!

The Central is not wheelchair accessible, despite their google page saying that they are. I have called on numerous occasions to speak with someone about this and no one picks up. Accurate accessibility information is the bare minimum if you aren’t going to ensure that disabled people can access your establishment.

Very normal food. Nothing notable. Friendly and cordial staff. Prices are somewhat high but being in Scotland within the average.

Stopped in for a meal when visiting St Andrews, we were served by a very pleasant server who admitted it was her first day. It was unfair to leave the poor girl serving alone when she didn't even understand the till and system to order meals and drinks. Place food and everything ok

One word: stunning. The atmosphere, the staff, the chairs - everything was absolutely magnificent. We ordered multiple hearty beers, all poured perfectly and some served with a nice fresh slice of lime. We were plopped there for hours and chatted vigour oussy underneath the dim lights. The staff welcomed us like we were family, like we were born and bred in St Andy’s. The only improvement would be, I observed a man trip on a massive gambling machine (it definitely was not me). I would be more aware of trip hazards next time :)

A great place to stop in for fish and chips. The menu is limited, but has all of the staples. Staff was incredibly friendly and courteous. Will definitely be stopping in again if I'm back in the area.

I'm not a dog person. Something that really caught me off guard, is that in Scotland...? You can bring your dog into restaurants (yuck) let them sit on the benches with you(yuck) and sit by everyone else and their food. This grosses me out.

A unique restaurant in that you get your own table. You determine your order and drinks. You go up to the bar and place your order. You pay and take your drinks back to your table. The only time staff interacts is when they deliver the food - in a timely fashion. Being on vacation, we tried several pubs in town and Central is as good as the best of them. Selection is typical with a decent selection of draught beers. The food selection is varied. We had the fish and chips, which met expectations. The interior is typical, the seating is tight, the prices are fair, and this all leads to an enjoyable experience for tourists and locals alike.

Love this place! The hunters chicken is to die for! Absolutely loved it and the rest of my party was very impressed aswell. They have a large selection of drinks also. Would definitely recommend.

Having been here before, I had a great experience. However, on returning, I was greeted by what I would call rude service from some staff members. They had attitude and it felt like a nuisance for asking for simple things. The food and drink service is great, but customer service needs to be worked on for some members of staff. Others, however, were absolutely lovely!

The steak and ale pub was excellent. The fish and chips were very good also. The restaurant/bar has limited seating and is friendly. You must order all lunch meals must be ordered at the bar.

Popped in for a quick beer, early. Bartender was knowledgeable and friendly, beer was delicious. After walking around the area, ended up back at Central for a delicious meal and it was packed!!

Place was busy so we decided to order food. Big mistake. Huge. Mac and cheese was like sludge. Toasties were small, and bringing these facts to the barmaids attention fell on deaf ears. We won't be back. It's disappointing, considering we are affeciandoes of The Keys next door.

Stopped for lunch and the staff couldn't have been nicer. Food was also very good quality and place had a very nice vibe feel to it. Will definitely return when I'm next in St Andrews

Expensive pub. How students can afford to drink here beats me. Far better similar and cheaper boozers in the country, although to be fair, prices aren't down to the wonderful attentive staff who give excellent, speedy service.

We had a lovely lunch here when staying the weekend in St. Andrews. Staff friendly and good food selection on menu. We tried the vegan option and the steak pie…both were great and reasonably priced!

Great place for a pint. Mens urinal was potent and could use some attention.

£5.40 for a can of Diet Coke is nothing short of daylight robbery, it was £5 cheaper for the same three drinks at Clayton Holiday Park. Ripoff Britain should be made aware of this..

Popped in for a quick bar lunch both of us had the steak and ale pie with mashed potatoes no complaints

Was here last weekend, had a pretty bad experience. Waited over 45 minutes for our food, and it was not well done. Garlic bread was burnt, veggie chicken nuggets were rock hard, could barely get my fork in them, mushy peas were cold, only the fish was pretty decent.

Decent pub in St Andrews - not a regular haunt for us but have been a few times now. Great service and great Guinness. Tends to be a bit quieter than other pubs in town.

Awful. Bought a round of drinks at 5.30, £17. Bought the same round at 6.03 £19.80. Pure rip off. Avoid like the plague.

Bar ran out of Merlot so i asked for a medium glass of Shiraz. Cost me £9.20😩. Won't be getting that again!!

Went for a meal and a drink before an event and everything was spot on. Staff were friendly and helpful, food was delicious and options were impressive! The cosy atmosphere adds to the overall enjoyment and, for St Andrews, its really not expensive. Would recommend!

Went out for some food with my friend and her little puppy, staff were so welcoming and friendly and the food was delicious! Definitely would recommend!

Nice food. Staff excellent and working very hard. Only 2 staff at present and they are perpetual motion. Really pleasant despite the pressure. Ate here several times and it never disappoints. Good pub grub.

Stopped here for some food and a Cider.. was busy but not over crowded, considering it was midweek early afternoon. Always a good sign. Chicken Katsu Burger and Chips spied on the menu.. was super tasty, fresh and plentiful.. washed down with a nice draught cider that the helpful bar staff recommended, immediatly followed by a little taster glass.. 10 out of 10 for service. Will pop in again next time I'm in the area.

Sat down to have lunch and was horrified to see a very large German shepherd being encouraged to sit on a seat at a booth next to us. The dog appeared difficult to control and smelled very unpleasant. The situation was made worse by staff petting the large dog - all in an area where food was being prepared and served to customers. Unacceptable.

Very good place for breakfast in Edinburgh, we ordered several dishes, they were all a good size and all very tasty, good price and quality/price ratio, it seems like a great place to me

We had steak pie. There were 8 yes 8 chips and a spoonful of mushy peas. Chips on all 4 of our meals were look warm. When we commented, the reply was. I'll pass your comments to the kitchen. We won't be back. Bar staff friendly enough.

Wandering around St Andrews with a dog we were looking for somewhere to eat lunch. The Central were very accommodating when asked about dogs inside we were told the more the merrier.

We went today for a drink and appetizer, sat next to the bar, and after 20 minutes of being ignored by a waitress and the bartender we left. My husband even went to the bar to order and was ignored. FYI: this was after lunch rush and before dinner. They are clearly not interested in tourists.

Excellent fish & chips, chilli and burgers. Served quite quickly. Many beers on tap including Peroni as the main.

I just went for a few drinks and It was great, a bit cramped during rush hour and the holidays.

The Central used to be the go to bar in St Andrews but wow it’s changed, we were moved inside at 10 on a Friday night and told to drink up (lol not just us but every table). Feel let down as to what has happened to an institution, I’ll not be in a hurry to revisit again, wouldn’t be surprised if they changed the dress code to jammies.

Went there Tuesday 25th July at 19.50. The person behind the bar asked if we wanted food or just drink. It was just drinks. Nice place, good staff, good vibe. Went back on Wednesday 25th at 19.20. We were looking at the menus when the person behind the bar came around and took the menus off us saying that the kitchen was closed. Went elsewhere.

Service was great didn't wait long to be served at the bar or for our food & the staff were friendly. Atmosphere was nice met a few furry friends too🐾 as this pub is dog friendly. ❤️
