We popped in here after a very long bus journey to have a quick spot of lunch. We decided to go for the toasties and crisps which were very tasty if not slightly overpriced. We felt the staff were friendly and the general ambience of the café was pleasant although it was hard to find a seat as there were many people sitting at tables with laptops but no food/drinks. This wasn't an issue as we managed to get a table however on a really busy day if you wish to eat in here then this might be worth noting. We will be back again in the future for more tasty food.

Rector's was the very first place I visited in St Andrews, so it's quite nostalgic for me. It is a fab coffee place with a unique vibe, perfect for studying or chillin out with friends. They have quite a large selection of hot drinks, and lots of sweet baked goods as well. You can get some food (mostly sandwiches/wraps) too. I love their vegan options - you can get your coffee with oat milk, or get a vegan muffin or a sandwich. Can recommend to both students and visitors!

Only popped in for a coffee but had to wait for a table to become vacant. There's apparently a time limit per table but it was quite interesting to watch the clientele , mainly students ,suddenly purchase another drink when their time was up in order to keep the table. I would think you could probably spend the whole day in here if that was the case. Apart from that all the precautions were in place and each table was sanitised after being used.

Had tea and shared a traybake. The latter was advertised as some sort of white chocolate pistachio slice, which we shared between the two of us. There wasn't much hint of the nuts except for a very small sprinkling on top. Setting is nice, lots of glazing allowing you to people watch folk going past. Table needing cleaning. Can't recall pricing but DD2 got YOYO points out of it. Giving overall rating of 'average' because the next level is 'very good' and it only warrants 'good'.

Lovely cafe to sit in and study, and the food is great at a pretty reasonable price. The cafe is let down by a poor style of service where you order at the counter and are given a number to take to your table. The server behind the counter did not make it clear that this was the system, so if I wasn't with my friend who has been before I wouldnt have known to pick up my number. The servers end up having to walk around for a few minutes before they can find your number so service is slow. Coffee seems to take an extremely long time to be prepared despite there being a designated person on the coffee machine. I ordered a panini and a latte, however only the panini arrived and I had to inform the waitress I was still waiting for my coffee, which then didn't arrive for another 5 minutes. I recieved no confirmation from the waitress that my coffee was coming so I had no idea if the coffee I'd payed for in advance was going to arrive or not. This lead to an overall stressful and confusing experience. This cafe has great potential but the service leaves a lot to be desired.

'There's a kind of similarity with the late, and greatly lamented, Borders Bookshop,' I was thinking as I ate a piece of truly delicious Lemon Cake; and sipped at my excellent coffee.Something to do with the big windows, overlooking the busy pavements.Students outnumber the local residents, in St. Andrews; and they come from all over the World. This famous ecclesiastical town has no shortages if eating places so, we're quite spoiled for choice. What I really liked about The Rector's Cafe was its serenity; and earnest students poring over their Think Pads.Actually, I was doing quite a lot of thinking about various things in the half an hour or so, where I sat on a very comfortable sofa.If you are looking to get a taste of your own student days, or some peace and quiet (not that the two usually go together!) this is a good place to be. This is a university cafe but open to everyone. When we went the university wasn't in session but there were still a lot of students in the cafe. The decor is a little strange - the ceiling is half covered with wood panels suspended from concrete and it looks only half built. Perhaps I just don't appreciate a modern style! However, the wall next to the pavement is all glass and you almost feel you are on the pavement - it was specially nice with the sun coming through the glass when we were there. There are a variety of different seats from barstool type to soft armchairs and settees. Pretty standard fare - panini, sandwiches, wraps, salads, bagels, cakes muffins etc. You order at the counter and pay there. You are given a flag with a number to take to your table. It took them over 10 minutes to bring us a tea and a coffee and they didn't seem to be serving anyone else. I was just about to go back to the counter to see if they had forgotten us when it appeared. But it probably isn't the sort of place you go if you're in a hurry - I expect people sit for a long time working on laptops etc. Reasonably priced - £1.80 for an Americano, £1.50 for a pot of tea isn't bad.

Top quality food and service. It is without a doubt the best restaurant in Anstruther but it is also likely the most expensive one. You get what you pay! Menu is varied and they also have daily specials. Food presentation is great and tastes even better!
