My wife and I called into the Courtyard for lunch and had a very good meal. My wife had the Ploughmans and I had the ham egg and chips. The meal could not be faulted by either of us! We both opted for the stawberry cheesecake which was sublime. The waitress was very attentive and did a very good job. We intend to go back this week to try other options on the menu.

went for afternoon tea and to be honest was bitterly disappointed.the ingredients were cheap and tacky.we had 1 scone between 2 people that was so doughy not very nice at all,2 tiny mince pies 2 slices of malt loaf that was really chewy 2 slices of brooch that was so dry, the clotted cream was very bland and when it came to the sandwiches it was like something you would serve at a kids party.tuna, cheese and chutney and ham and mustard. waited for ages as there was Xmas party in fact we had drunk the tea and coffee long before the food arrived service was not very good, had to go to the bar to pay when we had finished as we never saw anyone.for the price that was charged it was terrible, wouldnt recommend this to anyone

I rarely write a review but I felt that I needed to express how good we found both the meal and service at the Stanwick Hotel restaurant. We had an absolutely fabulous meal, first class service and pleasant staff. One of our group has a complicated array of allergies, but nothing was too much trouble. Two of us had fish and chips followed by a gin and pistachio trifle...gorgeous, one of the best I've tasted and I'm a trifle connoisseur! Would definitely go back, massive compliments to the chef and thank you to the staff.

Truly one of the best meals we have had out (and as this was our 41st Wedding Anniversary, we've had a few!) Fresh ingredients, perfectly cooked and beautifully served. Generous portions without being too much, ample time for us to enjoy our meal without every feeling hassled. However, neither did we every feel abandoned ether, Ruby, our waitress managed to get that perfect balance of being friendly and professional and was at all times attentive without being intrusive. The choux bun with raspberry and white chocolate is bursting with flavour and I shall be dreaming about it for a while to come!

Having had a meal in ‘The Courtyard Restaurant’ a couple of weeks ago which was absolutely faultless and delicious. We decided to rebook and have a meal tonight.. what a disappointment! We ordered fish and chips and the ham, mushroom and spinach carbonara. The fish and chips were passable but very small portion of fish. The carbonara was not right.....there was no cream sauce, the spinach was raw and the mushrooms were distinctly under cooked. The dish was sent back and represented with a small pot of sauce. What the kitchen failed to do was keep the dish warm, so represented dish was cold, albeit with a pot of sauce, but not edible. So disappointing. I am wondering if there are different chefs....in which case I would like to know which chef cooked our excellent meals and I will only eat there when he is on, as tonight’s chef needs to up his game to entice me to eat at this establishment again........even with discounts.

We have been reasonably frequent visitors to the Stanwick Hotel, meals, Murder Mystery Nights and several overnights but will not be visiting again. Today is my daughter’s birthday and her Wedding Anniversary. I booked Afternoon Tea for 6. My husband and I, my daughter, her husband and two young children. The first thing to strike me was that no attempt was made to direct us to the Track and Trace code on the wall and neither was any attempt made to offer us forms for Track and Trace. When we arrived it was plain to see that three tables for 6 were taken over for what looked like a Wedding Anniversary. There were 18 people who were clearly together. They spent the whole time moving from table to table with absolutely no input by staff to ask them not to do so. People were wandering up and down the tables without putting on their masks. The whole room was very warm and I counted 40 customers in quite a small space. After a while I asked if there was a manager available. I was told there wasn’t but when I mentioned it was about Covid Compliance, the owner suddenly appeared. I told her of my very serious concerns. Her reaction was to basically shrug her shoulders and say she had no staff. She outrightly denied the tables were one booking and tried to show me her booking form. It was clear to anyone with half a brain that the three tables (18 people) were together even if they had booked by separate names. However, she denied this. When challenged about the lack of Track and Trace, after going away and thinking about it, she returned to say that she the e mail addresses of those who had made the booking and it was up to them to inform their party if there was an outbreak of Covid. Wrong! It is the responsibility of the Establishment to do this. I warned her she could be fined £10,000 for flouting the rules. Again, she denied that the people knew each other, despite the fact that by this time, one table had left shouting goodbye to the other two tables and the party balloons on that table had been moved onto one of the two remaining tables, where there was a matching set of balloons on the table. She continued to deny they were one party, despite the fact that they were all chatting and getting ready to go at the same time. The Owner was clearly not telling the truth in my opinion and was not complying with the very strict regulations put in place to keep people safe. 40 people in that room. 18 of whom were clearly one party. The Owner went over to talk to one of the customers and was clearly speaking about my complaint but when asked by my daughter if they were friends, she completely denied knowing them I am seriously now considering reporting this breach of the rules as this Owner is putting people’s health at risk by making no attempt to follow them. We were planning to go to this restaurant on Christmas Day. I would not feel safe setting foot in this establishment again.

Slow cooker feather steak pie full of meat, puff pastry a bit limp, but the surprising kick from the gravy made it more Mexican than british. Wine selection adequate, sweets standard, cheese selection rubbish. Value not bad.

My wife and I plus a family friend decided to go to the Courtyard for Sunday lunch and we had a lovely meal. The restaurant is situated in a large conservatory overlooking manicured grounds which are delightful. We all chose the belly of pork and it could not have been better. Nine of us got together for a pre-Christmas afternoon tea. The setting was perfect in the conservatory. The service was exemplary – helpful, cheerful and efficient. Even more impressive as they were coping with two other big birthday parties at the same time. The food was outstanding. The savoury section was a great selection of sandwiches (with plenty to go around) and superb sausage rolls. The sweet selection was amazing – really, really good scones (and again, plenty of them), scrummy lemon sponges, yummy mince pies and melt-in-the-mouth macarons. And they’d created special versions for veggie and gluten-free guests. The tea was very good indeed – piping hot, strong, and endlessly refilled. One of the best afternoon teas we’ve ever had – and very reasonably priced. Thanks to all concerned.

After a mediocre cooked breakfast in the hotel, we weren’t expecting much quality at dinner but were pleasantly surprised. We had lamb which was a fine piece of meat, well cooked, with decent accompaniments. Crème brûlée to finish was okay. Others had salmon, risotto, duck: and everyone was happy with their meal. Service very friendly. Not haute cuisine perhaps but honest English cooking. Decor a bit bland, air conditioning fierce (until they turned it off): and thankfully Muzak turned off too.

Our first course was served promptly. My soup was hot and delicious, as was the bread roll. The roast was served ready plated but was hot with very well cooked veg - specially the potatoes, carrots and parsnips - all roasted to perfection. The roast pork was very good and included stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. We all thought the portions were too big. Perhaps smaller ones should be an option. This was our second visit to Wacky Wednesday, following an advert in the Nene Valley News for 'Wacky Wednesday drink and nibbles!' We were pleasantly surprised that the drinks were half price and on our first visit were given a plate of nibbles to share. I did however notice that not all the tables were so lucky and did not receive nibbles, however, some guests even moved from table to table 'hoovering up' left overs! On our second visit, the nibbles came out and this time we were the unlucky ones not to receive any! We were given three cocktail sticks......not sure why! The table near us devoured not one plate but two!!! Surely the staff should ensure that all guests are treated the same? Maybe 'nibbles' should be placed on the side so that everyone has an equal opportunity! I was there to have a drink and enjoy the company of friends, not for the nibbles, but I do not like to see people anywhere being treated differently!

I asked for somewhere quiet when booking but we were placed in the middle of the restaurant, hardly a romantic start. The restaurant, if that is what you call it, is just a conservatory tacked onto a busy bar. Basically just an extension to the bar and you can be seen from the bar area. Although this was a Wednesday the bar was very busy and noisy.

Our family recently booked a Saturday lunch to celebrate a special Wedding Anniversary. We are potentially nightmare customers with exacting standards and were delighted. The waitress went out of her way to liaise with the Chef and, together, they provided dairy-free alternatives for my sister-in-law (without any prior notice). The food was beautifully presented and delicious - my 75yr old Dad declared his choice, the best Fish and Chips he'd ever eaten. More than that, a professional, customer-centred approach shone through in all ways. Nothing went wrong at all but if it had, knowing the Hotel tries to get it right for each person who walks in would have forgiven them. We didn't stay over so can't comment on the Rooms, but if you're looking for somewhere smart to lunch or dine, in my view nowhere within a 10 mile radius comes close. We'll be back...!

My friend and I decided to sample the Friday night steak night last week, 6th September. We were very disappointed to say the least. We ordered a starter and sweet from the 'a la carte' menu, the starter pastry was well overcooked, and the sweet, described as 'home made strawberry trifle' consisted of a small drinking glass with perhaps an inch of red jelly, a spoonfull or so of tasteless custard, topped with a lot of warm cream. This was topped off with flaked almonds and half a strawberry, and served with 2 packet shortbread biscuits! How can this be called strawberry trifle I would like to know? Which brings me to the main course - the steak was hard on the outside and well overcooked, but the middle was really hot. Did not taste like freshly cooked, but more like re-heated in a microwave. The same with the chips, soggy, greasy, but again very hot, as if re-heated, and covered in salt, not allowing you the choice to season yourself. We were asked by the waitress if we would like coffee, but she left before we could make a choice, 2 white coffees arrived, but with no flavour and did not taste like fresh coffee. All in all, a disappointing experience, and we really resented the £25 each this meal cost us. The service was not that great either, and in the space of time we were there, the waitress dropped several things on the floor. I emailed them on Saturday morning to report our expereince, but so far have not had a reply. I would have thought feedback important, negative or otherwise. There are other, cheaper places in Stanwick to eat, who can serve up food far superior to this.

Now my review of the restaurant:-We were seated near the hostess' greeting podium. I wasn't comfortable. I felt as if someone had seated us 'wherever' they could. We asked to be moved which we were --but it got worse. It was incredibly hot because we were seated directly behind the buffet carving area. There were windows but on this day the wasps and flies were going nuts around us so we chose to keep them closed. But a few minutes later another customer opted to open them, which made it difficult for us to eat our lunch. My major problem with this place, which I think they can remedy, is their seating design and where they placed the carvery area- too cramped and a restaurant should never, never, have their toilets so close to the food! WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?!

My work arranged a meal out at The Courtyard in Stanwick, after one colleague had highly recommended it. The restaurant and surrounding gardens are what I am able to review today as I wasn't lucky enough to stay there but the quality of the food and the high standard of service makes it well worth a visit. The staff were friendly and accommodating, dealing with my dairy intolerance by adapting a dessert. Clearly the venue is used for weddings as an area of partitioned off and I can see how this would be a great place for a wedding reception.

I booked a table for 6.30pm for my family and I to dine in The Garden Restaurant as I understood that The Courtyard provided a high level of service and the menu looked lovely. We were instantly pleased as we seated as our table was in the conservatory part of the dining area with a lovely view over the garden. There was a wedding party happening but this did not encroach on dining. After we ordered our drinks and these were served we were left to browse the menu for quite some time, eventually our order was taken, we opted for main courses thinking we would save room for the desserts! We were extremely glad that we didn't opt for starters too as I may have been writing this review from the table still! Our main courses did not arrive until 7.50pm without one word of an explanation. The food was hot and nicely presented but as we were all so ravenous we couldn't appreciate that. By around 8.10pm we had finished our main meal and with the waitress wandering back and fourth it didn't seem that anyone was going to clear our plates. The party of four behind us were quite obviously suffering from the extremely slow service too and making it no secret. We decided that we didn't want to order desserts as we were concerned they would have taken too long as well, we asked for the bill and the waitress did promptly bring it over but then we had to wait to pay. Eventually we decided to take the bill to the bar to pay.

My wife and i went to this restaurant to celebrate an anniversery we were really pleased with our night. On our entry we were greeted by 2 of the staff in a most friendly manner we were served at the bar most efficiently and were seated in the bar area whilst waiting for our table.

We visited the Courtyard for the first time last Sunday following recommendations from friends. We were an early ish booking at 12.30. We were shown to our table in the middle of the conservatory room which looks as if it is used for wedding receptions, and was set out as such with lovely white table linen. They were obviously expecting a large party as there was a long table set along one wall. The room looked lovely, but I felt a s if I had gatecrashed a wedding!

we have been to this hotel for sunday lunch many times. My partner took me to the valentine dinner with live band on saturday 16th feb. the meal was very good...even though there was a slight mix up....our own fault.(i dont eat salmon, and that was the starter. When i explained to the waiter, he returned quite unexpectedly with a lovely melon and sorbet dish...a lovely touch, as i was quite prepared to forgo the starter) the rest of the meal was lovely, service very good. the band Mr P. excellent and had everyone dancing, with a great selection of songs....then all ladies were presented with a single rose...ahhhh. so nice.

Having married at the Courtyard three years ago my husband and I decided to celebrate our anniversary with a meal at the venue. We had seen the previous negative review but decided to find out for ourselves if the food was still as lovely as we remembered it. All I can say is the previous negative reviews are picky and inaccurate and in no way a true reflection of this outstanding restaurant. The venue itself has had another extension since our previous visit to provide a purpose built restaurant area which we think is an excellent addition. The waiting staff were very attentive but without being intrusive and we felt well looked after for the entire evening. We had a perfect wait between courses allowing us to enjoy each one and not feel rushed in anyway. We were thoroughly delighted at being treated to a glass of champagne by the owners which was a lovely gesture. As for the food we managed to enjoy three courses and were more than happy with everything we ate. This included meat... with no fat in sight. We even decided while we were there that we would return and take friends so they might also enjoy such delicious cuisine. Might I say to the previous 'decent people who like to tip' that if you are that unhappy with the food in a restaurant it is unusual to eat, pay and tip without speaking to the management and giving them the opportunity to rectify the problem. And as for a lack of eggs? Could you not have just asked. I feel sad that this beautiful venue and its fantastic restaurant have been subjected to unnecessary negative reviews but happy to say that we still love it and will be returning very soon!

My friend and I really enjoyed the Thursday steak evening in the Garden Restaurant at the Courtyard Hotel last night. Our table was well situated in the conservatory with lovely views over the garden. The staff offered good service and the owners were very welcoming and friendly. We both had the rump steak that was cooked to perfection and the offer included a bottle of wine. We opted for a dessert that was also delicious! Will definately return!

We came here for dinner on a recommendation so I was expecting good things. When my partner called to book we were offered an early or late booking which implied they were busy but when we arrived there was no one else in the place.
