A top quality roast dinner, with choice of meats for under a fiver! "IMPOSSIBLE!!!" I hear you say, but it's true. If you don't belive me, try it for yourselves. Very friendly staff too, especially Lucasz.

We had been holidaying in Wales & decided to leave the M5 & stopped here for Sunday lunch. We had a drink in the very pleasant bar with friendly staff. We were taken into the lovely restaurant by an extremely helpful waitress & shown to a comfortable table. There,we were served at the , by a cheerful chef. Roast beef ( as much as we wanted) with lots of fresh vegetables, lovely tasty gravy & all the trimmings. For pudding we had an apple pie (homemade) with custard & freshly brewed coffee to finish. Considering we hadn't booked & they were busy, it was a very nice experience & comes highly recommended.

we had a table booked for 7.30, we were running late and turned up bang on time to find there were no tables ready...which is fine not a problem we went into the main bar, which could do with a refurb, and waited to be told our table was ready. after we were seated a member of staff quicky took our drink orders, then we waited and waited and our menus were taken away, were we asked for our order no! so i went to the bar and placed our order. then we waited again we were told our staters were taking so long becuse they were so busy with the pizzas. when our starters turned up it was not worth the wiat, threee tiny thai fishcakes with a huge amount of cucumber and at 6 pounds was far too expenisve the mains however did make up for the disapointment, i had the venison steak and my girlfriend the honeyglazed duck, both very well pressented and good portion sizes. such a shmae we didnt get the mains untill 9pm! i can not fault the staff either only two gents working and were rushed off their feet!

We ate here because other places looked less than desireable or had had bad press. The hotel is big and rambling and the restaurant tucked away in a newly decorated corner. The atmosphere in the restaurant is perhaps not in keeping with the traditional inn image, and quite modern. Anway, despite any misgivings we might have had - we were very impressed with the food. I had a wonderful moules marieniere and my partner had a lovely veggie tart. Friendfly and welcoming service made it good too. I would return next time I was in Okehampton.

Four of us ate here recently, and with two having two courses, and two having three, the total cost was £110. I had the ox tail, I have not seen this on a menu for a long time, it was very nice, but could have been braised for a bit longer, as not all the meat was easy to remove from the bone. Now that the Fountain Inn appears to have closed its Riverside restaurant, this the place to eat in Okehampton.

Nothing very special about the menu so we did not expect anything outstanding when the four of us ordered pork tenderloin, bream, duck breast and thai veg curry. However, the mains were perfectly presented, quantities were good, the chef had sourced top-notch ingredients and each dish proved a hit. We had two bottles of red wine, a brandy, hot chocolate and a deftly-assembled hot toddy of fresh lemon, hot water and whisky to challenge my male flu....the whole lot amounting to a perfectly reasonable £94.

Visited Okehampton on the 17th of September and loved the place in the day, friendly and interesting so we returned in the evening to eat, what a disaster every place we tried had a problem/reason why we could not eat!! This place looked interesting with a bar then what seemed like an eating area to the left, despite large tables being used by couples drinking, empty tables with just coats at them we were told they could not fit us in for a meal, but to try in 30-45 min, seems the staff need to be trained in how to plan and organise a restaurant seating and how to stop potential customers walking out again!!

We didn't stay at the hotel, but used the restaurant on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Thursday and Saturday, we were surprised and disappointed that the empty plates were left on the tables for so long, that the guests were moving them themselves. The 3 staff were bringing out food and drinks and going back empty handed. I've never seen this in any Wetherspoons before. On Sunday there was a young man working, J.P. What an example. He was friendly, efficient and fast. There were no plates, or glasses left on the tables. He did the work of 3 people and I told him so. If the manager of The White Hart reads this, please put this man in charge of training your staff and you will all have a bright future.

A special dinner to celebrate 25 years of the village orchard- and the Drake came up trumps as always. Being a non-meat eater, a special fish dish was produced just for me, and it was superb, with sea bream and samphire- absolutely delicious. Full marks to the Drake Manor Inn
