AVOID ….In a nutshell door staff haha are a joke I think they’re dealing to be fair as there are a few secret hand shakes or on the take letting people in that are not allowed we was turned away due to dress code but if I gave them a tip it would be fine the blonde female door staff was a idiot rude and agressive and the stick thin one that can’t talk without stuttering either he is scared or on his own product glad we didn’t enter as kicked off as been told it’s always kicking off place is a major drug den with a load of wrongens….

Owner is a complete idiot no point going there to drink because they get the worst security FYI regent security are awful my girlfriend is disabled and out right called her drunk and wouldn’t let her in because of the disability paid 25 for a special event and wouldn’t give money back doubled the price of drinks absolute joke worst place very also just a note there’s was a 16 year old present and they wasn’t kicked out place should be shut down

I was out for a drink with my partner and needed the ladies, the floor was full of urine and no lock plus no toilet roll! Even a staff member used the toilet and didn’t wash her hands.. I was pretty shocked to be honest

Last night, my friend was assaulted by the bouncers here without any provocation. Consequently, he ended up in hospital. It's absolutely disgraceful how these bouncers believe they can treat people this way! I highly advise steering clear of this place at all costs.

My 30th birthday celebration at the Courtyard Bar was utterly horrifying. I endured a violent, unprovoked assault by the bouncers, who repeatedly beat me while I was on the floor with five of them on top of me. To make matters worse, I suffered a head injury from being bitten. This terrible incident forced me to spend the rest of my birthday weekend in A&E. For your own safety and well-being, I strongly advise avoiding this establishment at all costs.

My friend was attacked last night by the bouncers here. Completely unprovoked. He ended up in hospital this is appalling behaviour and this is horrifying to see as he did nothing wrong! Low life’s, thinking they can abuse their power on innocent people !!! Definitely need to get done for this and shut down and re evaluated if this is safe for people in the community.

We went out for my partners and friends 30th Birthday party last night and these bouncers abused their powers. My friend went to walk into this place and stumbled. He didn’t fall into nothing he only stumbled, and he was confronted aggressively because of this. Another friend saw this & got involved and asked what was going on. They instantly grabbed my friends wrist and put him to the floor where his head then started to bleed due to the force. All bouncers abused their power and handled myself and friends in a way that was not necessary. They knelt on my friends neck who was not resisting but on the floor with his arms and legs crossed, whilst my friend was on the floor with his arms and legs in a lock, these bouncers decided to kick him in the head and arm (whilst not resisting) & he was bit in the arm.. whilst locked by force from bouncers. Completely compliant. Of course we saw what happened and was punching the bouncers leg to get off his neck. My friend got cuffed and taken into broomfields hospital, he was thankfully released and two policemen thankfully come to the courtyard to check CCTV. Whilst the police arrived and was getting our side of the story, one bouncer kept getting involved trying to jump in our conversation & the other bouncer off duty/ on a break was laughing. Bouncers are not above the law, they do not get to put their hands on people for no given reason and my friend could have been seriously injured from the pressure on his neck, thankfully not. However we will never be going here again and I really hope the police take action and look at the CCTV. “

Please avoid this place, my son was set upon last night by four or five bouncers and badly hurt.. It was very unprovoked and one of them actually bit him and another knelt on his neck!!

Cant believe im having to put 1 star for the barbaric behavior of the security staff last night. A good friend of mine was thrown to the floor, jumped on with a knee to the neck, punched in the head whilst on the floor and then even bit!!! all because he went outside with his drink, he is now in hospital with a serious head injury. Avoid this place like the plague hope they get shut down and lose buisness if this is how they treat innocent customers especially when nothing wrong has been done.

This venue is absolutely revolting. I personally witnessed the security personnel engaging in appalling behavior, physically assaulting and even spitting at customers. I've never encountered such a distressing situation. The Courtyard Bar should seriously contemplate a change in their security team.

Been here a couple of times and both times have been ruined by bullying door staff, in particular a little one with proper napoleon syndrome, speak to you like filth at all times, completely ignoring the FACT that you are a paying customer. I'll never go again and would advise anyone I know to go elsewhere, there's plenty of good places in Chelmsford. It's a shame because it's a nice venue, but the way they treat customers is just wrong, they really need to remind to security staff who pays their wages and to smile and ask not try and bully people, and especially when they don't know who they're trying to bully.

Went here for speed dating, really nice venue, live music, 2 pool tables upstairs, quite a young crowd downstairs

We headed as a group of friends to courtyard for some drinks together. I was accepted in as a woman, but my other half, who was in cargo trousers and nice shirt. Handed his ID in to the bouncer who lifted his top with no warning. Then demoted his entry as his cargos was tied at the top with lace rather than buttoned, due for them being “too sporty” we had to as a group Replan our evening entirely due to this. Especially as we had come before we were incredibly disappointed and don’t wish to visit again

Literally avoid at all costs, my friend got chucked in the road by a bouncer because the staff gave my friend too many complimentary shots.

Went there on the bank holiday and door staff were nothing but rude and patronising. Had the cheek to deny entry when the woman on the door looked a state. Need to worry about the coke in the toilets and not elasticated cargos.

Nice little spot to watch the foote, plenty of space and decent pizza and beer deal. Match time pints were a little overpriced. Maybe they had service fees that we were not told of?!

To be brutally and gospelly honest this establishment is pleasant. However a vile wilderbest of a man(bouncer), (who looks similiar to eddie hall and true geordie with a graciously long beard) is the scum of the earth. He's both aggressive and a tyrant who likes to insult customers. He tried to punch me although ive been training judo for 32 years so i was able to dodge and take him to the ground. He submitted after a 10 minute wrestle and began crying so i felt bad and bought him a drink, which he couldnt finish even though it was a chandy.

Great atmosphere, cheap drinks, good music, friendly staff, you can play pool upstairs

This is probably the best place for Chelmsford in terms on house music. The songs they choose are quite good In Comparison to bar & beyond or pop world. There is a chill out area upstairs with pool tables that was also nice to have a break from dancing. The line however was quite long and took us a while to get in. That was around 11pm, so make sure you get in there before hand. The bar closes at 1 which I was gutted about because I think it’s the best place in Chelmsford for club/bar vibes.

We organised a work social event at the courtyard and couldn’t have been happier with the service we received. Food was organised before and came out on time, all the staff were friendly and very accommodating of our large group. The courtyard is the perfect sun spot and I would highly recommend!

Held my 50th birthday party at The Courtyard. Reserved area with Emma and Darren. The service was very friendly, food was great, recommend the slider burgers and the pizza which was great. Really recommend the place / lovely setting and great attention to care of the patrons. 10/10 thanks Ken

We had a booking of 30 people for a birthday and I cannot praise the staff and venue for making it such a great night, the atmosphere was great, good music and most importantly everyone has a great night. Would 100% recommend to anyone local to Chelmsford to give it a try.

We recently hosted an event for local property professionals to come together for an evening of drinks, snacks and networking. The staff had everything set up as planned, were attentive, helpful and worked around us seamlessly for the entirety of the event. When booking the event the staff were very conscientious when it came to setting up prior to the night and our dietary requirements. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed the food, atmosphere and it went off without an issue. This is the second event of this kind we have done in the last six months and wont hesitate to book there again in the future.

I booked a table at Courtyard to hold my friends baby shower. Emma was incredibly helpful, catered for all our dietary needs (gluten free and vegetarian) and allowed me to decorate the table as i would like. The food was lovely and as per…. The cocktails/mocktails went down a treat. Always a lovely night out!

Had our work’s Christmas drinks here last night with the Christmas buffet. Simply couldn’t fault it. From booking it with the manager Emma, just a few weeks ago, to arriving last night, it was faultless. The venue was beautifully decorated, the staff so friendly and attentive, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. We all had a really lovely evening. Waited 40 minutes for olives and paper-sachet garlic bread. However the food afterwards didn't take too long and it was nice! Waitress was also really friendly and worked hard. Visited the venue as part of a large group of a Thursday night. Friendly competent staff who had fun with the customers while also delivering exceptional service. Good range of drinks and the venue itself is quite unique in comparison to other bars around Chelmsford.

Good ambience generally. But in line with new covid 'substantial meal rules' they're charging £5 per person for a bottomless pizza, which you don't actually get. We waited patiently for a pizza but received no more then 1 very small slice per 30-40 mins wait , brought round by a senior member of staff who had his favourites, and served them in favour of me and my friend, who had been waiting longer, just because he wanted to carry on talking to them. In short, it's not a substantial meal because you don't get fed on a whole pizza per person ( their old deal used to include bottle of wine) you don't even get a whole pizza to share for your money for 2. You are lucky if you get a a slice every 30 mins to an hour here. Fine if you only want to drink. Not good if you actually want to eat as well. You have to order something completely seperate off the menu for that.

Unorganised bookings, we were left split up and waiting for ages after booking 3 weeks before for 3 tables on the right hand side.A few rude staff who kicked us out for no reason, saying we had to be seated at all times, although many others were not having to do the same. some staff were lovely and apologetic.We were finally taken outside where we were not put on the tables we booked previously and was spoken to rudely numerous times. Then was told to leave rudely and unreasonably after politely challenging their actions.

A group of 15 of us all had a very negative experience last night.3 weeks ago, I contacted The Courtyard Facebook page to make a booking for Saturday 18th July and was called by Nick to discuss the bookings I wanted to make and the guidelines etc. Seeing as it was such a large booking, Nick said he was happy to accommodate and asked for me to come down to The Courtyard and look at the layout, pick my tables and finalise the booking. I did so, booking 3 tables (2x5 and 1x6) and picking the 3 long tables along the right wall.Nick advised that although there is no space to dance, we are able to stand and mix with the other tables at a reasonable level, but not constant.When we arrived for our bookings, we were told that they didn't have any of our bookings and no available tables so we had to wait. The female bouncer then came over and asked us to sign in for their track and trace system and our tables had been organised. 75% of our group were taken in, with the others left outside the venue still being told to wait. We were seated and were told the rest of our group would be joining us shortly, however, the remaining 25% of us were taken to tables upstairs and spread out across the top floor.After speaking to a senior member of staff and Nick for the 2nd time, he told me to "chill out and wait, everything would be sorted". Shortly after, he took the members of our group from upstairs and seated them outside. A member of staff then came in to collect half of the group that was still seated inside and moved them outside, still leaving some of the group inside. After about 30mins, the rest of our group finally joined us outside, however, they were seated away from us again. So we couldn't see or speak to them without getting up and walking over to their table.2 members of our group were standing up mixing with the table that had been separated from us and were told by the female bouncer to "sit the f*ck down or get out", which is incredibly rude. She was challenged by another member of our party for her tone, language and her reason for why our friends should leave as there were other groups of people who were getting up, dancing and even shouting across tables who had not been spoken to at all.Due to being challenged, the female bouncer then continued to use such a rude tone, and removed 4 members of our group from the premises. None of our group were rude, swore or threatening towards her at all in order to give her a valid reason to remove them. We were told we have "no rights" and the female bouncer even pointed out my friend by her clothing, loudly humiliating her. The rest of us weren't sure whether our friends would be allowed back into the premises and were told to "go and sit f*cking down" and wait as they "weren't sure" themselves. It was clear from the staffs behaviour that they weren't bothered and didn't want to rectify this issue at all, we felt like burdens rather than paying customers. Another group of boys outside of The Courtyard, told us they shared a similar experience. The young member of staff, long curly blonde hair (the owners daughter?) was incredibly kind and accommodating, understanding our upset and concern and we cannot fault her enough for her hospitality.When it came to ordering for drinks, we were waiting for up to an hour, as the order sheets either weren't collected or given to us at all so we spent a lot of time waiting around. It's a shame the night ran like this as all of us have always loved going to The Courtyard, however, we won't be returning.

We had our '32 Mile East' business networking event here a few weeks ago. All the staff were very nice and attentive making sure everybody got the drink of their choice on arrival. Also the food was really tasty and we were provided with a good variety. All our guests had a great time. The pool tables were the icing on the cake as our guests moved from networking to an evening of playing pool. 'The Courtyard' ticked all the boxes for our event, so much so we are already planning our next '32 Mile East' event at 'The Courtyard' in early 2020…

We held our '32 Mile East' networking event here a few weeks ago. All the staff were very extremely nice and attentive making sure everybody got the drink of their choice on arrival. Also the food was really tasty and we were provided with a good variety. All our guests had a great time moving from networking to an evening of playing pool. We are now planning our next networking event at The Courtyard early 2020.

Great atmosphere in this place, I love it

We visited here early on a Saturday evening and I certainly won’t be rushing back.Inside was far too hot so we sat outside, having to share a table with some other people.This place is far too noisy, what with music being played and then people shouting over it you couldn’t hear each other to talk.The drinks are overpriced. It was cheaper to get two cocktails during happy hour than a beer which are mainly bottled and a gin and tonic.There is a couple of positives. They do table service and having looked at the menu the food seems reasonably priced.Won’t be rushing back.
