The cottage bakery made a birthday cake for my daughters 8th Birthday. It was made exactly to my specification with matching cupcakes to go with it. My daughter loved the design and both the cake and cupcakes tasted amazing. Would definitely recommend.

£2.40 for a basic white loaf, fake plastic cream in the cakes which is just AWFUL and the sausage rolls are brought in frozen from Leicester........it says it's the best bakery, it's not!! Maybe the owner should think about his customers and produce, rather than drive around in an expensive car with a private number plate, nice to see where my money goes. Get some real cream and support British dairy farming instead of being a peacock, shame on you. Shame. On. You.

The lady who served me was rude I said I wanted Chinese chicken it is want I order every time I go in. She put me down for coronation which i am not so keen on as it has sultanas in. When i said that it was the wrong thing. She said that I had asked for coronation chicken, I said maybe you mis heared and I need to speak up. She said that shes got the rest right so that proved i had said coronation i found the rest of the staff much more friendly and they smiled. Unfortunately the one bad apple will probably mean that i will not be going back again.

Stopped in here to fuel up during a cross country cycle ride - didn’t want a heavy lunch meal so the cottage bakery was ideal - we had a Cornish pasty, which travelled well in its paper bag to Amphill Park where it was enjoyed - a great pastie, crispy, flaky pastry and filling was luxurious with fine pork and small bits of potato. None of that chewy pork with cheaper padding via too much potato you get in other pasties. Perfect, and lovely and hot. Perhaps the only negative might be it was too hot (heat). Thank you!

I visited this bakery as I’ve heard a lot of about it in the past. However, when I walked in, there was a lot of selection of cakes, limited on pastry. What shocked me was the staff, the two ladies i found extremely unfriendly, as I asked about the prices regarding the toothpaste cakes, the woman with the light hair seemed quite abrupt at me, also very moody, these ladies seemed like they didn’t want me there, as at one point I asked about card taking, I got a rude response saying ‘yeah we do’ in a curt manner. I think some people in this particular shop need to sort their manners out!!!! I also had a sausage roll which was appalling, very pink and squashy on the inside and tasty unpleasant. This bakery I would not recommend at all!! Greggs is so much better, I will not return.....

Very unimpressed after today’s visit to here. This is the first time I’ve felt the need to actually write a review. On arrival our order was mixed up at the counter.fsir enough it happens. Then to my disbelief they wouldn’t accept my currency. It says it’s a British cafe on website.I had every British Sterling note to pay for my order and it wasn’t accepted.I had to pay by card.My order was rock hard and could have been doing with a steak knife. One I’d certainly avoid next time working in the area.

Forget the calories, enjoy the range of cakes, eclairs, doughnuts. The bakery is located on the main street, almost opposite the Albion pub, it is not easy to park, but worth it. You can park a little distance away in Chandos road for example. At least you can lose a few calories walking to and from the bakery!

In the morning the pasties and sausage rolls are a great treat. Try to get in before 10am when the tradies come and buy them all for lunch. The chicken and mushroom pasty is beautiful and full of flavour. The sausage rolls are moist and can be eaten without sauce. We had to eat them outside once we got them home as they are really flaky.

I have NO idea where the claims that the staff here are rude come from. They are not. The food is good, solid, tasty fare. No pretensions, no exotica, not a bar of wasabi ice cream in sight. Just high quality, delicious and traditional English fare and reasonable prices. If that is what you are after, you won't go wrong here. Unless you arrive after their pretty early closing time and have to go to C***a just down the road. That's wrong.

Supposed to be a fresh bakery.... bread stale after 1 day at home. This happens frequently especially at the end of the week, don't buy bread on Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays

Well price rolls and pastries. Always well staffed and friendly. Only criticism is loose the really cheap marge out of rolls spoils most rolls/sandwiches. Would rather pay 5p more per roll for butter. But keep up good work.

We happened upon the Cottage Bakery on Church Street during all the road works in Ampthill as everywhere else was closed, yet this place was open doing great with all the workmen!Choosing a mug of tea and a toastie, it was a good place to stop off at for half an hour. The baker itself it traditional, and so offers a good selection of breads and cakes.

Followed this with a delicate pastry.Very enjoyable and I'll pop in again if I'm in the area looking for a snack for lunch.

You get what you pay for, which can be acceptable and some cakes and sandwiches are ok. However, the attitude of the staff is far from acceptable, giving the feeling that as a customer you are 'interrupting' their day(!). The extreme opposite of what one would expect in an otherwise lovely location.

If your looking for anything fancy, don't go here. They are a nice traditional bakers - great for a jam doughnut or sausage roll or basic loaf of bread but unfortunately they lack a bit of imagination and don't stock any artisan breads or croissants or such like which is a shame. They always offer friendly service and I do enjoy their big jammy doughnuts:)

Enjoyed a walk around the woodland with our dog. Popped in for a light snack lunch. Run by volunteers, a friendly community atmosphere, welcoming everyone including dogs. Simple menu with inviting cakes. Good coffee and proper pot of tea. Lovely outlook across the orchard and quiet.
