We arrived for breakfast at 10.15 (they open at 9) as the first of 4 couples and were offered a table of 2. We explained we were being joined by friends and there would be 8 of us. They immediately said no as they “didn’t have enough chefs to cook for us”. We wouldn’t have minded had the whole place not been completely empty at the time. We went to the Inn for All Seasons just down the road and even though they were just finishing their breakfast service, we had a lovely welcome and great breakfast.

Stopped off while out in the local area I had my 2 small dogs and we were all were made very welcome. I had the vegetarian breakfast which was seriously the best I have ever had! I’m not sure if this was an off day but amazed at all the 5 star reviews! It’s nice enough inside, with a farm shop vibe. Our order for drinks was taken, but it took a while for our order for food to follow. Straight away we were informed they had run out of chicken, fish and halloumi, so options were limited. Food came and it was good, but what didn’t come was cutlery and butter for our bread, so we had to go to the counter and ask. Tables were left uncleared for a long time, people were kept waiting at the counter for a long time and it wasn’t busy. They’re just not ‘on it’ here, no one seems to be on top of anything, a shame. I’m sure they do well, good location, but I wouldn’t rush to go back.

What a find. Had to stop for an urgent use of the facilities for a family member and decided to stay for lunch. Alex was welcoming even before we were going to spend money. The service was quick and efficient and the food fresh and delicious. I liked the fact there was no plastic used and everything had a feeling of quality from the Crackbean eggs to the items for sale in the gift shop. I thoroughly recommend it for a lunch, but the breakfasts looked very tempting too!

A very enjoyable second visit, a shame we live 60 miles away or we would go more often. Disappointed to see the roast pork no longer on the menu, but the goats cheese salad and pulled pork burger were a good replacement. Chips super crispy like little roasts potatoes. Great service by staff who care. Enjoyed the ice cream. Can’t wait to return.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

I've passed this on the A40 many times but decided to pop in and see what it was all about. Sadly it's all a bit 'meh.' Location wise it sits on the A40 so gets lots of passing traffic but that does mean its setting is a tad dull and bland. In fairness the owners can not do a lot about its location but the blandness extends to that is on offer inside. Don't get me wrong, its not unpleasant, its not bad it is just instantly forgettable. Internally it feels neither swanky, quirky or quant. It feels like what it is, a small brick shed that serves coffee. Turning to the coffee it feels like it has been purchased to a budget. Again it's not bad it's just bland and forgettable. I would suggest that no one there cares enough to make sue they ar sourcing something good. The food was again, OK but over priced and the service was ok. In summary if you are passing and need a stop, need a quick brew or a pee there is no reason to stop in here. If you can wait and / or have the time for a detour then go elsewhere and do better.

We visited on our way to Bourton on the Water and although we initially stopped for a sandwich we decided to have a main meal instead. We are so glad we did.The food was delicious! My husband had Shepherd's Pie and I had the Goats Cheese salad. As you can see from the photos the salad was almost too pretty to eat and the Pie , according to my husband, was one of the best he'd ever had. The staff were very pleasant and the Outpost has a wonderful view over the Windrush Valley. A real gem!

Had passed by en route before so decided to stop for a break this time. We selected a couple of small plates (halloumi and samosas) with tea and coffee. The halloumi was good, the samosas slightly over cooked (one had split and the filling was a little burnt), plus lacked any spice flavour. Also thought some of the items in the gift area were rather overpriced. The car park was small so other cars had to park on the road (not the A40!). However, it was nice and cosy and clean, and way better than the Starbucks at Burford where we used to break our journey, so we will now stop here!

Fantastic place for food when travelling! Forget struggling to park in Burford or walking miles at the garden centre for over priced fussy food. Visit this lovely friendly cafe at Windrush instead. Park outside the entrance with spectacular views. The menu is interesting and varied and they use locally produced tasty food. We shared a sausage and onion panini which was really tasty and it arrived with a colourful salad and delicious coleslaw, with the addition of tasty homemade curly crisps. Very reasonably priced and the coffee was excellent; one tip - ask for hot milk with your coffee! 10 out of 10 to this place. We'll be back.

My companion loved coming out for lunch to The Cotswold Outpost today. She said: it was scrupulously clean, very tidy behind the counter, friendly, with good service. Tasty food too! I wholeheartedly agree. The only thing that I would say, constructively, is that I would have much preferred to have music playing rather than commercial radio, because there were a lot of adverts blaring out. This didn’t make for the best atmosphere as it was quite loud. When the station played music it was nice middle-of-the-road tunes, that the older clientele would recognise, nice for a weekday lunchtime. Maybe a hits or mellow music playlist would be better? This is dog friendly cafe with a small selection of gifts and treats for sale. The well-behaved dogs also added to the atmosphere and interest for my older companion. All round a really nice hour. Thank you. We will return!

We (me and Captain) have just found a new golf course to play, but they don’t have hot food so we needed to find a place to have our usual bacon/sausage bap and coffee/hot chocolate afterwards. As the course is just off the A40 we kept an eye out for places to eat and there it was, the Cotswold Outpost on the A40 just outside Burford. Upon entering we were greeted with politeness and a smile, we ordered two bacon baps, a hot chocolate and Coffee, looking around the Bistro/shop it is styled as rustic with old farmhouse tables and chairs, with gifts, local beers and wines. As for the food we can’t speak about the whole menu but all food coming out looked good and what we can say is those were the best bacon baps we have ever tasted. Two thick pieces of very tasty bacon in a brioche bun. Put simply, polite friendly service, great food and drinks at reasonable prices….what’s not to like. This will now be our regular stop off after golf each week.

Great location. But a truly awful owner. Chipped plates, cold food, chipped pot of tea and cold by the time the food come out. Fancy toast as hard as rock. It took an age to get the food, serving other tables that sat after us. Suspect the chef is little more than a school cook. You know the kind that buy a cafe and try and make it "posh" lol Lets get this right. They used a chipped tea pot, that had an old chip. They had such low standards that they didn't bin it when they noticed the chip but carried on using it. What decent places does that? Imagine if the standards are that low, what other low standards they have. When you see the owners you'll understand fully. Now if you're woke, its the place to go, it will tick all your boxes. I didn't say it in my original review but you could get a better breakfast at an ASDA or a service station. It was that naff. It was trying too hard but the owners are the kind that wouldn't know good if it hit in them in the face. I am sure they think they have a special little place. No its the only shop in the village kind of place. Read the "cafes" replies to other consumers you might notice that they have an air of arrogance about them. Yes they do but they need to look in the mirror. I did offer fair feedback. But their reply stinks, says more about how they see their customers than it does the customers

Everything about this place is wonderful… but the food is simply fantastic. So many places get simple cuisine wrong but here it is perfect. The best Eggs and Bacon on toast or chicken burger you can get anywhere in this area.

Popped in on the off chance for breakfast they managed to fit us in before a booking. Very friendly service, food excellent with the added bonus of electric car charging.

We saw the Outpost whilst driving home and called in for lunch with family and had an excellent meal. Everyone (including 2 children) loved their choices. Mine was a butternut squash wellington and was beautifully prepared and presented as was the children's fish goujons. Real...

We found this place well reviewed online. And very good it is. The food was very good and the service pleasant and helpful. On a day sat outside the views are fantastic across classic Cotswold countryside. A good stop if having a car tour day...

I’ve heard all good reviews about the Outpost, but had to experience it for myself’ and I wasn’t disappointed, all staff was extremely lovely, and the scrambled egg make with double crème is the best in west Oxfordshire 🤩 will definitely visit again! X

I have been here a couple of times and each time it gets better. The food is amazing and as you can see by the picture it is always fresh. Best sausage, bacon and mushrooms in the Cotswolds. A must visit.

Loved this little find, stumbled across it after a bike ride & didn't want to leave. Drinks well priced with a great selection. A DJ was on & it felt like we were abroad whilst the sun was shining.

Good menu range. Limited cakes available which was disappointing as I’d seen good reviews and photos online. We each had a 7 item breakfast which was good. The pricing was a little higher than I’d expected for what we got but this is a little place and I imagine the overheads are high so we were happy to pay it. Parking must be a nightmare in busy days, very limited, but we went early and were lucky. Our accommodation was literally 2 mins drive from the cafe so it made it a sensible choice. Staff were friendly and food was delivered quickly.

We visited Bourton-on-the-Water with a tour group. Our guide suggested lunch at The Den when I said I had to find gluten free options. It's a very small place for carry out but the food is spectacular. You can basically choose any sandwich filling from the many selections on the board.. and they will put it on a GF bagel. I got the Pesto Chicken and it was one fo the best GF sandwiches I've ever had. Seriously! My husband got tuna and cucumber on a baguette. We ate our lunch out on the small tables next to the shop. The owner was so friendly and the whole experience was wonderful. We highly recommend.

Nous avons eu une très mauvaise expérience chez Serenity Bean. Le personnel a de mauvaises manières et n'est pas prêt à traiter avec les clients. Nous ne reviendrons pas.
